Crabs Tropical Treat is a Hanover Institution! There are not many of these Car Hops left in the USA and this is truly a special place. Plenty of bench seating under a pavilion and other areas, the goats will welcome you and for a quarter, you can get a handful of corn to feed them. You can also pull your vehicle under cover and they will bring the food to your vehicle. Tropical Treat is open for the season and my granddaughter couldn't be happier! She absolutely loves to go and see the goats and we all love to enjoy the delicious food and icecream! My moms been going here since she was a kid! She'll be 73. This place is an Adams county treasure and the original "sonic". When you come here, you need to order the Fat Boy sandwich. It comes with a pink sauce that is delicious! It's sort of like thousand island dressing. The prices are great, the staff is super friendly. Been regulars here for decades so maybe slightly biased! To start it is an amazing drive in experience and we appreciate them keeping it just as it has always been. Friendly service at the car window. Not haute cuisine, it's drive in food and executed well. I always get the Fat Boy burger which is the house specialty and I enjoy it every time. My wife had the broasted chicken which was hot, fresh and according to her, quite tasty! Finished off with a really good twist cone and chocolate shake. Always a great experience. read more

Usually get the flavor of the week. I think I like the Peanut Butter the best.Wish they would make it an every day flavor. Visit every week Yes the lines are long most of the time but they flow quickly. Not taking long at all to get your yummy Ice Cream. Personally I feel their prices are fair for the amount you get. Seriously old school road side place that likely hasn't changed a lick within the last fifty years. You got two choices here. You can either park and go up to one of their multiple ordering windows or you can pull up to one of their stalls where the staff will come out to your car Sonic style. (I'm not implying that Sonic came first or invented the car side concept but it's a modern reference point - work with me.) We were just here for ice cream and it was a nice day out so we parked and walked up to the windows. The one thing about the ordering process that was weird is that until they finished one order they wouldn't start/take another order. Two guys were in front of me ordering a lunch spread and they were taken one at a time. Even though I just wanted ice cream and the girl at the register/window was standing there doing nothing she wouldn't start another order until the prior one was filled. Odd. Very Odd. Eventually we order and get our stuff and it's good enough. This is not blow your socks off ice cream but it's not low quality swill like Hershey's either. Prices are indeed a bit cheaper than your typical ice cream shop but that's because the portion sizes are also smaller than your typical ice cream shop. If you're comfortable with that then you're good here but if you're looking to strap on the feedbag and go to town know that you better order up to the next size or get a second. While we didn't eat any proper food off the menu also know that if you're looking for healthy or for the most part something which isn't fried, this isn't your spot. We sat on the deck and the delicious down wind scent of the fryer exhaust was well.....overwhelming. Nice solid middle of the road place in the middle of nowhere that pretty much was exactly what I expected it to be. This place does not even deserve a star, I placed a order by phone around 8pm was told it wouldn't be ready until 9pm, got there early and waited, got texted my order was ready, my son went and got ot, came back and I'm glad I looked the order was all wrong, took it back over to let them know it was wrong and they said they would fix it, but had to wait another 30 minutes and when I got the food. I asked if they could compensate me for it and the girl said have a nice night, so I asked for the manager and asked about being compensated for it and she said to me we read your order back as sandwiches, the manager is a A*****E...I will never give this place another cent, not if your going to treat your customers like this read more

First and foremost, it took an hour it took an hour and 20 minutes to get an order which wasn't even ours. We originally ordered two burgers and two fries but we got one burger and one fry for the price of two burgers and two fries. Went there for the first time because a friend recommended it. Was really wanting a raspberry custard cone. Well, the ice cream was very creamy. There was very little raspberry flavor. A great spot to park on a lazy, languid, and oh-so-long summer evening. Watching the sun go down over farmland as far as you can see. They bring the food TO YOUR CAR here. Admittedly, not on roller skates (ANYMORE) OK the food lives up to expectation. . This is a REAL drive in ice cream place. Been around since dad was a teenager. . .running over 50 years now at least. I always ordered a sloppy joe sandwich, the bread kind-of getting soggier-by-the minute from the bbq sauce. . .the goopy delicious kind that then falls on the fries which is totally good. And pair that with a milkshake. Here, they let you mix up the flavors on the shakes. Chocolate and marshmallow? YES. Chocolate and Peanut Butter. Yes. Chocolate and Butterscotch. MM HMM. It's your typical drive-in style food. Ok, some people are really into the burger/fries/fried food thing. I never really have been. But I was curious about their fish. It's haddock, and while it's not OMG-best-ever, it is decent enough to get again. One big pet peeve was that they don't have tartar sauce, and the attitude was that despite carrying seafood, their pink sauce would suffice. That's just it--it sufficed and was decent. Tartar would have been better and would be smart to carry. Pride is a little silly here. The onion rings were ok enough--the kind that are mostly batter with a practically non-noticeable onion in them. With that said, my toddler liked them. My husband had he fish sandwich, and since he likes things plain, he enjoyed it well enough. The wait is stupidly long though. It makes sense for teens and people on dates or anyone really ready for the "leisure" of a big wait before a meal. I was hungry and breaking a fast and not at all pleased to have waited about a half hour (maybe more) for drive in food. The wait should max out at 10 minutes, 15 if insanely busy. They also fill call in orders first, which is silly when there are people waiting in line. Would I go again? Yes, but I'd probably call in my order and make sure I have time to wait anyway. read more

Just ate here for the first time with my husband after seeing all the great reviews. We both ordered Fat Boys, a small fry to share, and he got a Chocolate Malt shake while I got the Banana shake. Neither of us were too crazy about the "special sauce" on the burgers. It was bright pink and too sweet for us. Other than that, the burgers were good. My banana shake was very tasty! I didn't try my husband's but he seemed to like it. The fries were pretty basic; good, but nothing out of this world. A little pricier than I would like for a place like this, but worth it for the experience and the setting. We would go here again, we'd just order something different. read more

Prices are not bad Broasted Chicken was recommended to us but I was disappointed nothing special and too juicy. I like the fact that they serve pepper slaw instead of creamed but served in a paper cup which leaked. Don't know for certain, but I fear it may be sacrilege to give the Treat only 3 stars. And, that's not so bad. I want to love Tropical Treat - I'm fond of Americana, and precious few genuine drive-up car-side restaurants are left (Sonic has made it into a gimmick, but doesn't come close on any level). Simple food and chilly ice cream treats brought to my car by a smiling, save-up-some-money-this-summer high school student? What a great formula! I guess I can't give the treat the Fully Monty of five stars due to some unevenness. Sometimes my order's made right, sometimes not. Sometimes the food's pretty good, sometimes not (so I've given up getting my full course meal and just go for dessert). Overall, the place is pretty good, and it's got that great throwback vibe. Strip away the speakers and car-side menu boards leaving just the walk-up window, though, and I don't know that the place would measure up against other soft-serve and sandwich joints scattered around York & Adams County. That said, I'm sure you'll find me there at least a few times next season, as I'm sure it won't be many years before this genre of convenience dining is gone forever. I went here with my wife for a 'date' on Friday since she is pregnant and d she mentioned how we won't get to go out together as much when the baby arrives...on to the review. I have driven by the place plenty of times on my way to Kclinger's and it has piqued my curiosity so I am glad I got to stop in and give it a try. The drive up is cool, like a piece of the past - a slice of Americana. They have the radio box to order at the side with the menu and a tray. There is a patio area on one side also with umbrellas and they have animals for the children to check out in the back -a pair of goats some ducks and three roosters. The place seems like a trip to yesteryear with old texaco signs and pennants with local team mascots names on them. The menu is simple and covers subs, burgers, chicken and baskets of fried seafood items. They have hot dogs and fish sandwiches - crabcake, oyster, tuna and fish I enjoyed the Fatboy I ordered and the ketchup gave it a tangy bite since the special sauce(an unnatural pink color) was kind of sweet. The dessert sundaes we chose were pina colada and maple walnut which were very tasty and very sweet. I enjoyed our visit and hope to return - it is worth checking out Tropical Treat. read more

Been going here since I was a child, was a favorite for after school sports practices and stuff. Go every year for a Fat Boy, my favorite, I also love their Italian Steak Sandwich. I might be bias because I'm a local, but there aren't too many drive-in anythings anymore, and "the Treat" has to be one of my favorite places to frequent in warmer months. Famous for their Fat Boy sandwiches and subs (if that's your thing) but their famous to me for their Texas Taters :) Service is always prompt and while you're waiting, there is a farm behind the facility where you can go check out some pigs, goats, horses, and various breeds of chickens. Basic Retro food. Huge menu. The servers bring the food right to your car if your parked under the carport. Wanna impress the kids?? OMG eat in your car with a tray hooked to the window. Lots of soft ice cream treats too. Don't forget to put the window up a few inches so the tray can rest there with all your grub. Let someone who can remember a long list do the ordering. That is usually us gals. Sorry guys. God help the newbie who wants to eat from his car and doesn't understand the waiting system of hovering around open spaces and waiting cars.
