My Aunt lives in York, and I saw this spot on some Facebook groups. I knew I had to go and check it out when I was back there. I placed my order online and went with a Hefty size Classic Cheesesteak, and a Husky size Philly Special Hoagie. Total after tax/tip was $34.00. How were they? Cheesesteak- Fantastic! Nice seeded bread, tons of meat and cooper sharp cheese. Onions were cut a little big and laid on top, so they started to fall all over the place (eat this outside your car, trust me!) while I was eating. Flavors were great, though! Damn fine cheesesteak and I would definitely return to get another. Hoagie- This thing was packed with goodies! They also use the "meat blanket" technique that I have only seen at LaSpadas down in Florida, previously. All the ingredients were well put together, HUGE, good bread, but there was a lack of tang in the olive oil/vinegar dressing. It was basically absent. That's why the 4 stars. Maybe you need to order extra or more vinegar? Something was definitely needed though. It was pretty plain tasting. Don't get me wrong, it was still a good sandwich, but it could have been a GREAT sandwich with some extra flavor of the oil/vinegar. We were on the main highway headed north and my wife found the central market. A quick search on yelp and here we are! I had to wait a few minutes for them to open, but they still opened before they're posted time! The folks inside were very patient while I looked at the menu and you can tell they take a lot of pride in their work! My sandwich was the best! I had it left way with all the fixings. Made the pilgrimage back down to Hefty Lefty's Hoagies and Grinders. Lessons learned last time: - Order ahead. - Add SPO and hot pepper relish. - Upgrade to seeded roll on the cheesesteak. Unfortunately - ordered 24 hours in advance ... still waited 30 min. They didn't add the SPO or hot pepper relish to my hoagie. My friends order was made 24 hours in advance as well- an hour later they realized they didn't have it. Steak was meh and also needed seasoning. Many of the sandwich builders didn't look like they were as invested in the hoagies as the room full of customers were ... sorta moving in slow motion (we had some time to observer while we waited). Had a turkey and provolone (Hefty) 9 inch. The sub is packed with meat could be shared between 2. The taste was amazing the roll is sesame seeded but a mild sesame flavor. I prefer a softer roll but that's just me. It is located in the Central Market so parking can be challenging. read more

This rating may be biased as we ordered to go and I am sure if we ate it there it would be a higher rating. The selection of subs you can choose from is great! There is something for everyone and I love that they wrap the meat around so that it holds it all together. The size of the subs are also ginormous! We placed an order online so while we had to wait about 10-15 minutes after our designated pick up time, it wasn't too bad as they were slammed with the line looped outside their door. Watching them make the subs was fun, the guy in the beginning even weighed out each portion of meat before getting the sub made. They moved through pretty quickly, I would say even at their busiest time, they got the line moving with noone waiting more than 15-20 minutes. The vibe of the place is funny too as I think it's suppose to replicate a garage and not to mention the punny name!! It's definitely a place worth checking out but I would highly recommend eating then and there!!! read more

Had the pleasure of visiting Central Market in York yesterday and decided to see what the hype was with Hefty Lefty .... I tried the Flying Pig Hoagie, Hefty 9". It was a very nice size, packed with meat and uniquely rolled with the lettuce, tomato and onion inside the rolled meat and cheese. The Hoagie was good, the pricing was good for what you received and extremely fresh The line got extremely long after we ordered, they make some nice looking hoagies .... Staff was friendly and efficient and they have some tables you can sit and enjoy your food. I do recommend giving g them a try, our next visit will be trying their Cheesesteaks !! read more

Went to the Franklin Street, social location. Although the meat was plentiful on the sandwich, the tomatoes were mushy, which is a complete turn off. It was supposed to have oil vinegar and oregano. TLDR: One of the best hoagies I have had to date. The bread is fantastic and the meat wrapped around the toppings makes for a better eating experience. Come for any of the cold cuts. Vibe: 5/5. Located in the far corner of the York Central Market, Hefty Lefty's is a humble, no frills sandwich shack that at peak hours can be seen having lines queued up around the market. Though mostly a takeout business, the restaurant does have a few tables inside as well as outside the entrance for those that can't wait to dive into their meat mountain. They have an efficient ordering system, with a single line going in on the left for those placing their order and an area on the right for those waiting for pickup. Orders can be placed online through their own website if you wish to beat the line (highly recommended). Service: 5/5. The entire staff at Hefty's was great! I had placed my order online the night before for a 10:15am pickup time. Considering that the restaurant doesn't open until 10am, my sandwich was ready right on time, if not a little earlier. Since it was so early, I didn't have to wait in line and waltzed right in and picked up my subs. You can really tell the staff takes pride in their product, as each sub was perfectly taped, wrapped in paper and nestled in the paper to go bag so they wouldn't shift around. Sometimes it's the little things like this that make even a takeout experience memorable. Food: 5/5. Easily a top 5 hoagie and most certainly a destination sub, i.e. one worth traveling for. I ordered a 6" Philly special (their rendition of your classic Italian but with sharp provolone) and a 6" roast beef hoagie. Both subs came loaded with meat, but in the most unique way of presenting it. Hefty's cleverly puts all their toppings inside the center of the sub and rolls the deli meats around them, forming a meat log. This delivery system is ingenious, as it allows you to get proportionate bites of meat, cheese and toppings. Another benefit is that the meat can act as a sog barrier for the bread. This was especially true for the Philly special, as the salty cured meats did not leave any soggy spots on the roll during my 90 minute ride home. Unfortunately, the roast beef did suffer from some moisture transfer from the beef to the roll, but all in all it was still very good. Pricing is insanely reasonable. Each massive 6" hovered around $10-12, which was well worth the price of admission. Overall, if you ever find yourself near York county, I highly suggest making your way over to York Central Market to get yourself a Hefty Lefty or 2! read more

Got the large cheesesteak and I'm not even going to attempt to eat the whole thing. Enough for 2 people. Feels like it weighs 2 lbs. Such a great combo of quality rib eye, sweet onions and Cooper Sharp. All piled into a fantastic seeded roll. This is one of the corner end stalls of central market. Parking is across the street adjacent to the white rose restaurant. Got here on Wednesday afternoon around 1pm and there was a line out the door. The rest of central market stalls were closed. You can definitely not come here on a lunch break, they are not fast probably due to how big the sandwiches are... I ordered a hardy balboa and hardy Philly and both were stuffed. I did it order it lefty's way but I would skip the pepper relish since it was a bit much for me the slices of peppers. They are one of friendliest family run business I've encountered. Oh man... This place has been receiving a lot of buzz lately and after seeing numerous pictures and people's comments about the sandwiches that they're getting here I finally made the trip to try them out for myself. For me it was almost a 40-minute drive to get there the only regret I have about going is having to make the drive back home. I wish I could live there. Hefty's is located inside the York Central market, which I was not previously aware. Regardless, I was able to find on-street parking however noticed that there is a small parking lot across the street and I believe they may charge $2 an hour. Every stand in the market was closed however Hefty's, located in the corner of the building, was bustling and I needed to wait in line before I was able to place my order. As fantastic as they're hoagies look, I opted to try one of their cheese steaks and chose The Original. I chose to add mayonnaise, banana peppers, black pepper and oregano to my sandwich. I patiently waited as each cheese steak is made to order until my name was called. Be aware that this place closes at 2:00 p.m. and I had gotten there at approximately 1:30 p.m. so I decided to eat my car. First, I must say that this sandwich definitely had some mass to it and as I ate my way through the sandwich you could truly see how much meat they packed in there. They sure do make their sandwiches HEFTY! Every bite was extremely delicious and super creamy as the cheese was completely melted and Incorporated thoroughly with the meat. Although I tend to prefer a hard seeded roll for this kind of sandwich the soft roll that it was on was still good and managed to hold itself together until the last bite. I managed to work my way through the whole sandwich and being the glutton that I was caused a food coma but I have no regrets. Sandwich cost $15 however given its quality and the amount of food that you get I really believe that it is worth every single penny spent. I went there for the first time yesterday and ordered a Balboa Hoagie, which was a superb sandwich, The freshness of the ingredients, the chopped cheese, tenderness and flavor were all in sync. While I was there I saw their "2024 best of" for their cheesesteak. I'm new to the area from Colorado. I've never had a cheesesteak ANYWHERE and I decided I wanted my first one to be genuine and good. Haven't found a place I wanted to risk it at until now. Had it today, the classic; nothing added nothing removed. I loved it! the seasonings were perfect. I could taste the black pepper as an obvious spicy compliment but not overdone. The onions wrapped the whole sandwich together as a unit and the cheese was mostly present in taste but not obvious any other way. The only concern I have is that I live too close to resist this place. What a great celebration of being out east! read more
