Nice fresh cut
Kristof T.

Hard hitting cheeze steaks. That meat is spiced very well and the runny whiz makes up for the weak bun.

Keeping it nice and simple
Erin D.

Definitely a spot only locals will know about. There is no website to speak of nor will you find any flashy menu boards or registers. Just your classic sub shop serving up delicious food. The cheesesteak is definitely in the top 3 for Lancaster City. The wiz portion is on point and the meat is seasoned wonderfully but the roll needs some work. Overall I will probably be back semi frequently as my friend has moved just down the street, and this place will definitely satisfy my cheesesteak cravings.

Great people inside so strike up a conversation (go Niners!) Good food if you are in the mood for a classic burger.

There was quite a crowd at the bar, which I think may have been attributed to happy hour as it seemed to clear out about halfway through our dinner. We had the Irish soda bread and in order of chips for a starter. The soda bread was served with butter and jam. It was pretty good. The chips appeared to be hand, cut, and well fried. They had a very good taste of them. They were served with three sauces, two of which were cream based and were pretty tasty. The third was supposed to be a curry sauce, but it was extremely thin and did not have a great deal of flavor. I have the bangers and mash and my wife had a steak. Both were very good. Service was OK but the bartender who poured my second Guinness could probably take a remedial lesson in how to pour a Guinness as it was definitely not a proper pour. All in all if I were in the area again, I would probably come here.

I wanted to like this place because the decor and initial feel is on point. Having said that, I'm…read morebig into food quality and value and this place was not great at either. Having a Guinness is always nice and, my shepherd's pie was pretty good, but the fish and chips was as bad as it gets and it was all a bit overpriced. The shepherd's pie had a nice presentation and good taste, although perhaps a bit low on meat. The fish and chips looked like someone's first ever attempt at making it. A greasy mess with more batter than fish. Service was slow as well.

The English Pub environment induces a relaxing and friendly vibe! The personality of the bartenders is great and friendly! Service is prompt even when it is busy. They have a nice beer selection to hit everyone's tastes. I didn't know until our recent visit that they have an amazing selection of bourbon! I'm not talking about a just a few top shelf labels, but multiple brands to choose from. On this visit I tried their "house" barrel select of the Heaven Hill and it was delicious, smooth and flavorful! The food is delicious. We've sampled their fish and chips (best around), sausage rolls, pretzel braid, and Sheppard's pie. Everything we have ordered has been very flavorful. The Sticky Toffee Pudding was very good and I could have eaten several servings. Overall, the Bulls Head Public House is quintessential smalltown pub, where all are welcome to stay and enjoy themselves.

The owner Latosha, her staff and her family were all so inviting. Mayor Williams, her Staff & Commissioner Hartwick all came by for the ribbon cutting and to welcome this new business to the Midtown area. It was also nice seeing all the locals coming in to try this new restaurant and support their local business. For husband, and myself, I got the catfish platter, mac n' cheese, sweet potatoes, potato salad, shrimp & crab pasta salad and a piece of the carrot cake togo. The platters also came with a cornbread muffin. Everything was fantastic! The food was fresh, the restaurant was clean, the people preparing the food all wore gloves and made sure not to touch anything except what they were preparing. There was a separate person that handled the register and order taking. If you've read any of my other reviews then you know that I do not play when it comes to food safety, cleanliness and hospitality. After 40 years in the service industry, I look for certain things and Aunt HOCKER's Fish Fry did not disappoint. So when I tell you that I will definitely be making a trip into the city more often, to get food here. That says a lot. 5

We definitely over-ordered but told plenty home for leftovers. For appetizers we ordered the pork belly bao buns and the Thai salad with shrimp. These are more entree size so be forewarned. The bao buns came in a taco server and had three buns filled with plenty of pork and a spicy aioli. The Thai salad came with 5 nicely charred shrimp and a Napa salad. This ate a little dry-I would have appreciated a bit more dressing- but I can see where more dressing might have made this a bit soggy. We would definitely order these again For entrees, we tried the burger and the chicken pot pie. The burger was a double patty with cheese, pickled onion, and a mayo based sauce on a sesame bun. I have to say I was happy to see that they opted out of the usual sad lettuce and anemic tomato that is typical of early spring. I think it was lacking some salt as it was missing something but overall was ok and served with crispy shoestring fries. The pot pie was topped with some puffed pastry and had a nice velvety sauce with hints of tarragon. Very nice. My dining partner finished my burger and took most of the pot pie and the side salad that came with it home. Even though my dining partner couldn't finish his regular entree, he wanted dessert. After looking at the choices the server suggested the seasonal dessert which was beignets with whipped cream, chocolate and strawberries. I was reticent but was happy with the choice because the chocolate dipping sauce (of which there was plenty ) was DELICIOUS! The beignets were fried puff pastry or croissant dough that one dipped in the warm chocolate fudge-y ganache and/or whipped cream. I ordered coffee which paired well with the dessert and it was delightfully fresh. Service was good, friendly and attentive. Decor is industrial farmhouse. The reason I haven't been going for the past three years is that the last time we ordered a Reuben, it was the most disgusting sandwich I'd ever received. The meat tasted terrible, and the color was "off." The time before that the Blarney bread was undercooked and had so much mayonnaise on it that it was inedible. Two weeks ago, it was undercooked and cold in the middle. The more well-done pieces I was able to eat, but the little pieces I could not. The following week, we decided to try the newly opened section on the corner inside the old Arooga's. Two bartenders working, the bar was not that busy but one of the bartenders closest to us didn't even acknowledge or let us know that she'd be right with us. It took the other very attentive and excellent bartender at the other end of the bar to notice my eyes looking around for some help when she came over to take care of us. She was great! The petite blonde was absolutely the worst and I wish I knew her name so I could call her out in this review. I used to love this place and my previous review is five stars. It's definitely not the same as it was before so I'm not sure we will be visiting this establishment again.
