While our first impressions left us a little concerned, when the food arrived, we weren't disappointed! There was only one young man there when we arrived who took our orders and then said "this may take a few minutes, I'm the only one here and I don't know how to make the sandwiches". We then sat in the dark dining room wondering if we made the right choice and what to expect. About 25 minutes later (as promised) he came out with our food. They looked and tasted fantastic! A second older man brought out the last one and apologized for his absence as he had been delayed while buying supplies. He turned on the lights and we had an excellent lunch (along with a good story). If you like a great cheese steak sandwich, on tasty bread, this is the place in Red Lion. Got the spicy Italian toasted and fries. The flavor in the sub was very good and the lettuce was very good quality. The fries were also very good. Ordered pick up and it took a little longer than expected but no big deal. I wouldn't go back for the Italian but would be interested in trying o it the cheesesteak. I will never support this business after my interaction with the owners. I wanted to try it out and get a cheesesteak. I told my father I was going to get food there and he told me about a situation when he went . When the cashier was giving him the change for his order they kept the bills and put it in the tip jar and handed back the coins to my father. My father, a retired police officer who served this community for over 35 years didn't want to say anything and make a big deal of it. Maybe they would get offended and do something to the food. Anyway I was still going to get food there, but I was going to let them know of the incident that occurred in the past. Come to find out the cashier was their son. A simple apology would have sufficed. But no, I was met with aggression, condescending tone, and disrespect. They said our son wouldn't do that, taking no accountability. I said my father was a police officer for this community, he wouldn't lie about that. The husband said he wanted to talk man to man with me like he wanted to fight, asking why my father didn't say anything. The husband says we don't even want to serve people like that ( my father is a 78 year old man not looking for problems) then said my father was probably a grimy cop who would ruin peoples lives for no reason. (Which doesn't make sense because your life only gets ruined if there is evidence for conviction.) This is how they feel about people that dedicate their lives to this community. The wife kept pushing the 2 dollar bills in face saying since it was such a big deal take the money. I didn't touch it. She left it on the counter, condescendingly telling me to take it. To me it's not about the money. It's about right and wrong. They could have just said sorry about that we will look into it. I even told them I don't want anything to make up for it. I was even still going to order food and support them. I just wanted to let them know. But after being talked to with blatant disrespect I will never support this families business and I will inform everyone I know about this horrible interaction at broadway sub shop. Go to golden crust or central pizza. Those families deserve the support, they won't treat you like this. Edit: you have cameras put up the video if it wasn't true. Not the way to run a business. Got an authentic Philly Cheesesteak at this spot. It was every bit delicious as getting one in South Philly. Wiz and meat juice were oozing out of the soft yet crispy roll and the fries were perfectly golden brown and hot, doused them with some malt vinegar and got down on my food. Wow! The owner and his son run the joint and they both checked on me to see if the food was satisfactory, he even chatted with us for a few minutes which was really cool. When you are in downtown York, PA make sure you hit this small sandwich shop, you won't regret it. read more

OUTSTANDING I'm a cheesesteak snob, and more importantly an Italian Roast Pork proponent. This place NAILS them both. The steak is so overstuffed, you can't possibly be disappointed. And it's fresh quality beef! Pro Move: get them to sub in the sharp provolone. But the STAR of the show was that Roast Pork. Primos is my all time favorite for Italian cold cut hoagies..but their Roast Pork had some terrible pork on it. I was expecting similar here. Wrong. The pork itself is freshly roasted in its own juices. You can tell. Big hunks and strands. The sharp provolone is legit (it's in crumbles, not slices). And that broccoli rabe is dead-on. Garlicky, juicy, just the right amount of bitter. Every single time I'm in town, I'm stopping by for one of each. read more

This is our 3rd time eating at the Broadway Subshop. I've gotten a chop steak twice and an Italian cold cut tonight, toasted. These folks have yet to disappoint. The ingredients are always fresh and they get our special requests right every time. They take a little bit longer, but I think there's a few reasons, none that are bad: they take the time to get each order right, they run a tight ship as a FAMILY run business, and let's face it, they're busy, and for good reason; they make excellent subs. I'm from the area but moved to Alabama, I came home to Windsor for a visit and my family wanted to try this place. Now in Alabama there are no good pizza shops like home and heaven forbid they think they can make cheesesteaks or cheeseburger subs. Ok, I consider myself somewhat of a Philly cheesesteak aficionado. I have been going to Philadelphia since the 1980's. I pretty much have tried all the well known cheesesteak brands out there. There's some really good ones (Jims, Dalessandro's) then there's some REALLY BAD ones (Pat's,Geno's)ugh. If you are a purist like me, you order your steak "wiz-wit" which means cheese wiz and onions. So, I definitely know what a real Philly steak tastes like! My brother, recommended that I try Broadway Sub Shop for a cheesesteak. He told me they are everything a Philly steak should be. Well...I decided to go check this place out. All I can say is WOW! I was blown away at the fact of how much it tasted exactly what I'm used to! Other places in the York area claim to make Philly style steaks, but they are imposters. I mean, this cheesesteak is straight up LEGIT man! Thinly sliced and chopped meat, real cheese wiz, rough cut onions, fresh baked local roll. I'm talking epic proportions! Smile factor of 10. It most reminds me of Dalessandro's steaks in Philly. i had high hopes for this place after seeing the google reviews that must be friends of the owners . Unfortunately ,this buisness did not live up to the reviews . Waiter was great . Very respectable . My food was a different story . Half of my California cheese steak was hard as a rock the other half turned to mush while trying to eat it . Cheap cheese , cheap bread ,cheap ingredients . not what i expected from a buisness that is supposed to specialize in cheese steaks. Staff was slightly snappy aswell . So glad to have a sub shop around that uses traditional soft sub rolls instead of the flatness with the harder crust most PA sub shops around use. I had heard a few good reviews about this little sub shop, so I thought I'd give it a try. When I called and placed the order I was a little disappointed about the wait time, an hour and fifteen. Nonetheless I decided to give it a go, because I knew it was a recent start up. I picked up the order exactly and hour and fifteen minutes later. The staff, owner I think, was extremely nice. The order looked good, so I preceded home. We unpacked the contents of our order, 3 subs and a salad. Boy were these subs packed, heavy. I thought, wow these are hearty subs. The salad was good size also. We all agreed the subs were piled with ingredients. The meat was very flavorful, and all the veggies crisp. Best sub I've had in a while. By the way it was a spicy Italian sub. The kids agreed and so did their mother, she had the salad. Long story short, excellent food, well worth the wait.
