Since I've been in Houston for 15yrs now this has been my go to spot for archery until I went to get some new strings installed on my Matthews. I didn't feel welcomed and some older gentleman was being rude and he made it seem I was inexperienced with a bow. I've been in archery since I was a little kid and hunting for 35yrs now. When I went to go pick up my bow I was immediately checked out with doing a paper test first. If any experienced bow hunter knows you have to do a paper test if you get new strings. I ask for help and got a cold response. I don't want to pull the race card but..... I will not be going there again. I had to take my bow to Outlaw Archery to get in fine tuned. Those guys were so amazing I even doubt the new Bow Lift Mathews. read more

Pros: Great facility. Lots of lane options. No reservation needed. Cons: Website doesn't provide info on range fees and whether reservations are needed. No clear check-in area or someone volunteering to help. Staff weren't particularly friendly. I set my daughter's new bow on the counter still in the packaging to show the two guys standing there that she was new at this. We did not ask him to do anything, but he unscrewed things and adjusted the sights, which we just thought was a nice courtesy. Turns out now the sights were now way off, but I still felt good about making this our family's home range. Then we checked out and saw they added a "tuning" charge. That was very disappointing from a new customer perspective, not to mention it more than doubled our fees. What a shortsighted approach to running a business. We live 30 mins away and will be going to a range closer to us from now on. read more

This place was so much fun! I went with another friend for a first lesson with Coco. He was absolutely a peach! So patient and thorough. He taught us so much in an hour I was able to hit my target (a balloon) in one try! We would shoot a round and he would go over where the arrow landed and explain why it did what it did. Wanted to do free range but you can only do that if you own a bow and arrow already. I signed up for the lesson. Koko was a nice instructor. Very particular about how to do things. You can tell he's done this for a very long time. He's very patient. Shooting a bow and arrow is a lot of fun. My boyfriend enjoyed this experience a lot. And as I said Koko is nice and isn't too strict on the one hour Mark. The experience was nice. read more

Came in to buy a new bow and was not disappointed. I received friendly, expert advice from the guys working there who were able to work with my budget. I ended up with a Mathews Phase 4 which they set up to match my hunting goals. As soon as the bow was ready, they encouraged me to zero it at the indoor range which was 50 yards long. The atmosphere at the range was very relaxing and the other people there were very social and easy going. I look forward to shooting this bow for many years to come. I also look forward to visiting the range again and meeting new friends with similar interests here. This place is about a 40 minute drive away for me but I'm happy to make the drive and keep coming back. Definitely recommend you visit and see for yourself. read more

My brother bought a compound bow online a few months ago and wanted to shoot it somewhere for the first time. We both have never shot a compound bow. We googled places and the area and found this place which was very close to where we live. They were very patient and helpful which was exactly what we needed. We have been wanting to get into archery for a long time. We have researched bows online, done all the tests and measurements to make sure we have the right fit, even watched videos online. We scoured Houston for a decent shop, that not only was stocked but had warm welcoming people running it! There is nothing worse than walking into a shop for the first time and either being ignored or talked down to. The bow zone was none of those things! We walked in and they were completely stalked, and we were welcomed warmly. We were immediately helped and the staff was wonderful! Very knowledgeable and not once did they push us towards one particular bow, they actually encouraged us to try both recurve and compound to make sure we liked what we wanted. We got to test out our bows on the range before we bought them and the trainer was awesome! We didn't take a lesson but she gave us just a few quick tips and my husband picked it up immediately and was shooting nearly the Bulls eye every time! A funny tidbit... As we were leaving there is a slight ramp outside the door that I didn't notice and I fell, they actually came out to make sure I was ok instead of laughing or ignoring me. The man asked if I was alright and checked my bow to make sure it wasn't damaged! This place is wonderful and we will most defiantly be back! The customers in the range were even welcoming and very nice! I really want to take a few lessons on perfecting my form and they even have layaway! I your looking for a good shop and don't mind a drive to spring if your in the Houston area! Bow Zone is the best place! Don't buy a bow anywhere else!! They know what they're doing and talking about. Bought my first bow here, I'm left handed so it's hard to find what I need but they have it! We spent half the day here and they even worked a little past closing time to get our bows situated and ready to take home. Love the service, layout and ranges. Raymond is my go to guy to fix my bow, up my poundage and overall takes good care of it when I visit. Great practice in the 20 yard but the BIG range is awesome. Just be sure you aim right or else your arrow may shatter on the cemented floor. Everyone with all kinds of bows come in here to practice or get some shooting in, costs about $20. I really wanted to love this place as it seems many other reviewers have, but my experience here was just not that great. Previously, my husband and I had been to another archery range where we had our first lesson and fell in love with archery, but the location was far for us, which prompted our venture into Bow Zone. Before going, I checked out their website and gave them a call to make sure we didn't need reservations and could rent bows, and once we were given the affirmative, we went over. Walking in the door, we could see they were a bit busy and since we weren't in a rush, we bided our time by wandering around and checking out the items for sale. When it was our turn, we said we would like to rent bows and shoot for a while in the range. The woman gave us a slightly sideways glance and asked if we were experienced. I told her that we weren't experienced, per se, but we have had lessons previously. She told us that without having a lesson from THEIR shop she couldn't rent us anything. She also mentioned that their only instructor was booked for a little while and gave us their card to inquire about openings in a couple weeks. At that, she shrugged her shoulders saying there was just nothing she could do for us. What a warm welcome. I'll be honest, I was beyond frustrated. Why had no one mentioned this little bit of information on the website or on the phone? And if we've already had a lesson, why should it matter if it was with them or not? She essentially denied our business and sent us on our way. I don't doubt that this place is very knowledgeable and prides themselves on safe practices (hence the generous 3 stars), but they are seriously lacking in other areas. Looks like we'll just have to make the journey across town to go back to the original range where they are actually friendly and helpful to new faces. read more

In January, I walked into Bow Zone intending to purchase a PSE Nova package {I'm a complete novice!}. Richard helped me and asked if I would like to try a slightly more expensive bow. I said OK. He checked my draw and set up a Mission X3 with my 29" draw and an arrow rest . He took me to their bow range and told me to shoot at the orange dot on the 10 yard target. I told him there were no sights or peep. He said try it. I hit within 3 inches of the dot! TWICE! And that bow was real quiet. I bought it. After I bought it, Richard removed my sights, whisker biscuit, and stabilizer from my borrowed bow, put them on my new Mission, and installed a peep. He then took me to the range and schooled me on how to stand, how to shoot, and helped get me "on target". He took the time to help get a newbie a great bow and gave me numerous pointers on how to put the arrow where I wanted it. The customer service is great, and I have enjoyed going back there on numerous occasions. Highly recommended. Updating this post, I got a buck and 2 javalinas with my new bow this season {2008}. These guys adjusted and tuned a used bow that I just acquired and set me up with some high quality arrows at a great price. There was no wait - they got right to work on it. I'm a novice at archery, but everyone was extremely helpful, including the other shooters visiting the range. They helped me dial in my sights and work on my technique. This is an Archery shop/indoor range for bow hunters. I really liked this place because I am left-handed and the owner is also left-handed so their is a bunch of left-handed accessories to choose from. I had bought a new bow from them, and the guy set up the entire bow for me including the arrow rest, sights, and vibration dampeners. The guy was real genuine with me and i felt like he wanted to make me happy. Through the whole process if i felt uncomfortable with anything he explained it to me and/or adjusted it to my needs. It may be a little far but is way worth it in the long run, because you know you are going to get quality service, plus the indoor range is nice during the summer months when its too hot to shoot outside. read more

I'm glad I made the trip up to Spring to visit this place. When we walked in it looked fairly busy so I was sure we'd have to wait a while. Much to my surprise we were helped immediately and exclusively for 20-30 minutes fitting me with bows and equipment that matched my price range, answering terminology and shooting technique questions, and talking me out of a more expensive bow I had planned to buy. Great People. Great Knowledge. A Place Where Everybody Knows Your Name. Walked in, first time mid-February and was blown away by the hospitality. Everyone was busy, busy, busy, but they greeted me as I walked through the door and I left feeling like I made five or six new friends. What was really cool is that they did not try to sell me the most expensive bad boy bow in the shop like other shops have done to me and did not look down upon me because all I wanted to do was get an old bow restrung and tuned up. They were friendly, helpful, warm and respectful. If you are new to archery or an old timer, they will make you feel welcome. Wish they were closer to Galleria, but well worth the drive (Spring). Took about 25-30 minutes from Galleria using 59 to 1960. Sort of like going to the airport. No big deal. Go see 'em and just have fun. P.S. Second trip out there today and they were just as helpful. I'm just starting out (again) and will probably take lessons --alot has changed (for the better) since the 80's and early 90's. Will definitely make the drive and no question in my mind -- my next bow will be from Bow Zone. AWESOME people. So I drove 190 miles one way to purchase a bow from The Bow Zone. I am new to archery and knew virtually nothing about it. I learned of the shop from one of the employees, Rosie, who is a close friend of mine. When we got there, I was a bit skeptical because there was excavation going on around the entire building, but as it turns out they're doing an expansion project and increasing the size of the store and indoor range. Rosie introduced me to Joey who was going to help me pick out a bow. Joey was very helpful, informative, and went at my pace on my level. Joey showed me the bow that he thought would be the best fit for me and what I was looking for and then he took me to the range and let me try it out. But he didn't stop there, while I was trying it out, he gave me several pointers and let me take my time until I felt comfortable and 100% sure of my purchase. I have to say that I was very impressed with the customer service that I received from Rosie and Joey (I did not work with any other employees though they all seemed nice, friendly, and knowledgeable.) The prices seemed fair and the shop was nice, set up with a good inventory of bows and accessories. I would definitely recommend any avid archery folks or those who want to get into archery go visit The Bow Zone and let them outfit you for all your archery needs. I was a newbie at bowhunting, bought a used bow and took it to these guys to repair and tune it, they were helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. They dialed it in for me, gave me some instruction on shooting and had me going in no time. Later I bought a used bow for my son...took it in and they did it all again for him. First, let me say, I am not a bow shooter in anyway whatsoever. I recently got a bow with hopes of learning and eventually using while hunting hogs. I called Texas Archery and spoke with Joey, he was extremely polite even after telling him I was a bow "Moron". He said you have to start somewhere. I went in the next day to have my bow tuned up for me. Raymond was my technician, he was very polite and explained everything as he went along. After about 30 minutes, I was on the 20 yard range hitting 4" groups. Raymond was extremely professional and made my first visit to an Archery store great. I bought a dozen arrows and went to the house and for Poops and Giggles I started moving back 30, 40, 50 yards. At 50 yards I was hitting the target consistently and I know it will only get better with time. what a wonderful place!!! i took my best friend into this pro shop after i checked it out. richard and darren are very experienced and knowledgeable archers. i cant say enough about the customer service...outstanding!!!! i watched these two gentlemen with several customers, young and old, they have the patience and class even as i was downing another shop not to chime in but help me with my problems! and still take the time to answer several youngsters questions. they remember each and every customer by name after your first visit it's amazing. my best friend has been into archery for all of 4 weeks and thanks to richard and darren he's spot on target with equipment, lessons, knowledge, and the willingness to help anyone to enjoy our wonderful sport. read more
