Our first time visit was a pleasant surprise on a Friday evening. We both kept committing how good everything was. The homemade onion balsamic and the blue cheese dressings were excellent. My husband said the chicken fried steak was the best he'd had. I was excited when I saw the green beans weren't the usual overcooked ones but lightly sautéed. Everything was delicious and wished we'd had room for pie since they looked fabulous. Our waiter was very knowledgeable. The only suggestion I would make is not to bring the entree so quickly after the salad. I quess that happens when the kitchen is efficient. read more

It is a slightly upscale diner. I had breakfast once: eggs, hash browns, sausage, and a biscuit. The eggs were just right, the sasuage had a slight layer of grease coagulate on it. they weren't hot maybe luke warm, maybe I was talking too much and they were warm when served but the grease was a bit much. I love this new restaurant close to my house! I've had breakfast and dinner here. My boyfriend has had lunch here a couple times. I love the wilted spinach! The green beans have been hit or miss. The meatloaf and chicken fried steak and hamburger were all good. The service is very hit or miss-it usually starts good. The breakfast menu doesn't include bread. I did meet the chef and the owner one night when we sat at the bar. I do enjoy the place, but they are still working out some kinks. read more

I had the chicken fried steak and it has a lot of fat in it, which made it hard to chew. The breakfast my family members had was alright, but bland. The server was prompt, but not courteous. As someone driving from the top tip of Texas, I was a little disappointed that we chose this restraint over some of the other choices. Second time to eat here for Sunday breakfast. This is critical of how I like food and some may disagree. Wait staff both times vary responsive and courteous. Probably some of the best I have come a crossed. First time I ate here was for dinner. Had the chicken fried New York strip. Breading was some of the best I have come across. Well seasoned and held on to the steak. Gravy was also pretty good. Steak itself was tender but lacked any seasoning. So I returned home from a 5 hour drive and my wife wants to meet me and have brunch. I suggest here to see how breakfast is, have high hopes from the gravy that was on my previous visit. Asked about there grits wait staff has no clue, apparently they don't have them sample what they serve. They brought out a bowl looked gritty and unappetizing. Granted never liked grits myself till having them at Gogo gumbo, and cooking them as Puala dean does, more like creamed of wheat. So I ordered a biscuit and sausage gravy. Gravy was fairly tasteless, to thick and lacked sausage. Was more like they used the pan drippings to make their roux than add any sausage. Biscuit itself was dry and crumbly. If I was not so pleased with my previous dinner this place would have scored a 2 star. My sons French toast looked really good and he ate it. So it must have been to his liking, supreme picky eater. My wife's was ok also but fried egg was browned severely, apparently using the same griddle to fry their potatoes as there eggs. Which is about 100 degrees to hit for a fried egg. All in all I might return, but a few miles down the road at the hicks airfield is a much better place at least for breakfast. Awesome breakfast. We stopped on a Sunday and had the special which was as Cajun eggs, pork tenderloin and jalapeño grits. It was fantastic! Huge portions that we brought over half home. The food was great, I especially recommend the onion rings, the mac & cheese, and the glazed chicken. The pies were delicious, I've had several. The service was very good considering how large our table was (15 people for a birthday). I recommend it! My wife and I thought we'd give the Texan Diner a try (we are new to the North Fort/Haslet area) because it received favorable reviews on Yelp. I'd give the Texan Diner even more stars if I could because 5 stars are not enough! We thoroughly enjoyed our meals! I had the bacon wrapped Hill Country meatloaf (some of the best meatloaf I've ever put into my mouth) and my wife had the Sabine Pass chicken sandwich (which was delicious).We both highly recommend this restaurant and are already telling all our family/friends to go check it out! read more

Went today for the the 3rd time. Their variety and unique specials seem really good. For example today, they had crawfish pie as a Friday special. Ok, lets try it. It was SO good. The jalapeno & bacon cream corn was really good too. Our waitress Jennifer was fantastic. Lunch had just started and the place was prob half full, but we got our food in less than 15 minutes. My wife had the Chicken Santa Cruz and it too was quite tasty. I have had CFS and a burger there (they grind their own combined meat for the patties) and they were both good too. I look forward to coming back and trying some more of there one off specialties. Of course Chef Curtis found time to make the rounds while we were there. GET THE CHILI! I would eat this all day, everyday. I'd smother it on fries, hot dogs, chicken, everything. It's so good!! We tried the meatloaf which was really good. I'm not a "meatloaf" kind of person. But it was recommended by our super sweet waiter and since it was our first time, I tried it. It came with gravy and shoestring onions. I pretty much inhaled it. We also got the scallion crusted salmon which was good. Kind of small but I'd rather have quality over quantity. The only thing that I was unhappy with was the biscuits and cornbread that came before the meal. The biscuit were crumbling and dry. The cornbread was dry. Just didn't taste very fresh. I went in for breakfast and the food was great and my hosts were very kind, but my stay there didn't feel very welcome. My waitress was very nice to her customers but to her workers a different story... she was very rude to them and it didn't make me feel like it was a family environment. She was very slow at serving because most of the time she was screaming at her co workers and pulling them off to the side to complain about something. I had to ask around for her name before leaving because she failed to introduce herself, I was told it was Kim or Kimmy, she was short with blonde curly hair, she's an older woman with a temper. Great food! Chef actually came out and interacted with us, made sure our food was good and to order. Our waitress was polite and good natured. On to the food: I got the Migas. Easily in the top 3 I've ever had. Growing up in New Mexico, the only thing it could be missing is fresh roasted green chiles. I went with a large group and got to try the meatloaf and the daily special (some sort of chicken that was EXCELLENT). The meatloaf was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The food has been top notch on both of my visits (for lunch). The Texan Diner has very unique menu with quality ingredients. I went there today with a co-worker and after about a five minute wait I finally got impatient and caught the waitresses attention as she was about to walk by our table for the third time! After our meal was served she never checked on us again. I even had to flag her down to ask for the check. Seems like an easy problem to solve but I experienced the same issue on my first visit last year. I would love to frequent the Texan Diner more often but I have a limited time to drive to Haslet on my lunch break from work. read more

I would rate higher for the food. But the service is brutal. I had Anna D and she has no clue what she is doing. My wife finally had to go get coffee after we sat for 10 mins. It was breakfast time coffee should be instantly offered. Food was great. It was the second time I have been there and both times I have ordered different things and they were great. We have tried this place for breakfast last week and it was the best breakfast We have had in a long time. We went back to try lunch, portions so big that we couldn't finish.
