That had never happened before; nevertheless, my partner was forced to wait in the sitting area for 20 minutes while I made my way down to the location (we had planned on saving time with her picking up the car while I ran errands). When I arrived at the rental car agency, another customer service individual told us the same thing. I asked if this was a new policy -- that the corporate card necessitates the employee paying for and driving the car -- and the customer service rep was very squirrely, refusing to answer the question and say either yes (it was a new policy) or no (the policy had just previously gone un-enforced). Finally, when they proceeded through the reservation, it became apparent that the particular corporate code that my partner had applied DID NOT require me to pay for and drive the car. So she had waited 20 minutes for no reason whatsoever, with little in the way of apology from any of the people working there. We were finally led to a car, which was freshly cleaned although with only 1 bar of gas. One of the three reps we dealt with was really kind and quick, tried to get us into a car and on the road, but I was unimpressed with the service we received from the other two people there. The car itself was nice, pretty clean, handled well, and the location of the rental car agency is convenient but...just a word of caution, in case you're renting with a corporate code!

Priceline listed them as an airport rental so I got an uber to the airport and enter the car rental area. No U-Save. I look at my confirmation and they say to call and they will pick me up. Took forever for them to arrive. Other shuttles passed through 3x before my shuttle arrived. They will nickle and dime for toll fees and addition to fraudulent scratch claims. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION. They have an electronic sign pad and the guy will say sign here to show you picked up the vehicle and on return they will say sign here to show you delivered the vehicle. In my email they claim I agreed that the car was in the condition before pickup and after pickup that they claim. They never said this at all. ASK FOR WHAT YOU ARE SIGNING AND READ THE FINE PRINT. YOU WILL BE CHARGED. My 290 dollar rental turned into an 880 dollar bill for 9 days rental. I'm pretty sure you aren't allowed to tell someone to electronically sign something and claim they signed for a reason other than what was stated. They give you no paperwork at all. They said I had an incident when I did not. I very minor scratch on the car, that I believe was there before I left. I took pics of numerous scratches on the car that were not highlighted yet they claim there was a new one. Pictures are so terrible scratch can not even be seen. They charged me 500 dollars for something I did not do. If my credit card doesn't side with me I will see if it is worth it for an attorney. If an attorney reads these and wants to go for a class action lawsuit I am happy to tell how they lied, provide the pictures and also describe how they fraudulently claim you signed something stating an event that you never read. steve 434.426.1837

Then, even though I showed them the type of vehicle I booked, they showed me some fine print in the subtext that read, "Vehicle type not guaranteed". I was attempting to rent a multi-passenger vehicle for a field trip I was organizing. I ended up with a smaller van and having to recruit two chaperones to take the kids that couldn't fit. They promised me I could return my vehicle at 5PM on a Sunday. When I got there, nobody there. I waited for 2 hours, nobody came, then when I came back the next day they charged me for an extra day... and charged me another full day for parking (I left my car in their lot). When I said I attempted to return the vehicle on time but that nobody was there, they said, "Sorry, not my problem." Ridiculous and cruel! They also charge you more if you book them off of Expedia, just be aware. Evidently there's some contract language that allows them to do that. "Ripoff" doesn't even begin to describe this company. You've been warned.

Tyrone, the manager, said the car had dog hairs in it, he was allergic, and the car needed to be sent out for detailing -- and they need to charge a $450 cleaning fee. He kept emphasizing that he had allergies. Total gaslighting. To be clear, Avis terms and conditions do not say that you have to clean your car before returning it. They simply state that renters will be charged a "reasonable fee" for "excessive stains, trash, dirt, soilage, odors, or pet hair." By no means, was my car returned with "excessive" anything. This was a scammy, fraudulent charge, and it was only by accident I found out the same day, and was able to rush back and take photos and videos of the car interior. After I complained, Tyrone gave me a "courtesy call" later that day to say he would reduce the cleaning fee to $150. What a joke. It took me three days to get Avis to reverse the charges. I had to call their customer service numerous times and go back and forth on emails. Avis makes it very difficult to reverse the charges. You have to be very persistent. If you have a video, they only accept files less than 10MB. This was known Avis/Budget scam. I thought I got a good deal on Hotwire. Next time I will pay more and go to National at the airport. Avoid Avis -- and this particularly this location -- like the plague. If you do rent from them, take photos and document everything, so you don't get screwed by Tyrone and his "allergies."

However, when I got to Thrifty they said they could not find the keys for the car I had requested. I had wanted a small car to save on gas mileage and the elevation I would be driving on. Instead they gave me a mid size car that went through a lot of gas. Also, the car reeked of cigarette smoke. The smell was so strong we had to invest in air freshners which did very little for the smell. I had tried spraying perfume as well which was only a momentary fix. We kept the windows down for most of the drive. When we would turn on the AC, a very sour smell would come through the vents. Also, we had been told rolls would be covered; however, before leaving we told the car had not been registered to EZ Pass so we would be responsible for all tolls, which added up. Long story short, do not rent from this company.

"DO NOT," the agent warned us, "under any circumstances use the automatic PlatePass to pay tolls." This caused some consternation when we had to go through a toll that was automated. We figured Thrifty would bill us the amount, about $2. A few days later when we went to return the car before going to the airport, a handwritten sign on cardboard informed us that the Harvard Square location was closed (in the middle of a Tuesday) and we would have to go to downtown Boston to return the car. Never mind that we needed to catch a flight. We tried for a while to get in touch with Thrifty central, which proved impossible. Finally we gave up and drove to Boston, dropping the car off with a surly rental person there. The icing on the cake? Getting a $10 bill from Thrifty for going through a toll pass and not using the automatic PlatePass. Never again, Thrifty. Never again.

    I was in an auto accident and the person who hit me insurance covered this rental. The person who…read moreinitialy assisted me was able to set me up with a car without authorization but rushed the process. Not only did he give me a vechicle that wasn't equivlant to my sedan, the car had no winshield wiper fluid, air in tires low, muffler fluid maybe leaking since it sound like a go-kart and smelled like masked marijuana. I pointed out the markings when we went over the car together and he kept brushing it off saying not to worry about it because it was preexisting. He rushed to get me out of there and sent the invoice to the wrong email. When I tried to fix it, and asked for a business card he said he didn't have one but gave me a number to call. It wasn't a direct office line and I ended up waiting on hold for 20 minutues until I was actually able to speak with someone in the office to get it corrected. The entire process took longer than expected (he had the incorrect information and was confusing me with another customer. I had to tell him to double check) and I was running out of time and had get back to work. I had a better experience when I returned the vechile and voiced my concerns. Expecially, when she noticed the small dents on the hood and I told her that I reported this to the agent who set me up with the car and he told me not to worry about it. She reassured me that I wouldn't get charged. When I asked for a printed receipt, they had issues with their printer but she made sure my email was actually correct and it was sent immedately which I appreciated. She also apologized multiple times (event though it wasn't her fault) and offered me a 1 day of free rental and tank of gas. I highly doubt I will be coming back but I appreciate the gesture. She's the reason this reivew did not have one star.

Customer service told me I was supposed to look up their hours ahead of time and figure out that a 12:00 reservation meant 11:45. The nature of travel is that people get delayed. Don't schedule appointments that only work if the customer is early. Not that it would have mattered, because nothing like the car that I reserved was present in their lot.
