NO STARS... Never EVER again. Three weeks is how long it's taken me to write this following the absolute worst (non)rental experience in my life. My vehicle was changed by Budget the night before my cross country trip (reserved 6 weeks prior). I was told vis email to use a different vehicle, which did not suit my purposes. When I called to ask for additional assistance I was YELLED at by someone identified later as a regional manager.'. After yelling at me he hung up on me. I called back and spoke to a pleasant woman who offered to try to find a vehicle for the following day. Less than one minute after speaking with that person, same awful guy called me back to yell at me again.. tell me that he's cancelling all of my reservation history, and hung up on me again! I'm still in shock over being cut off, told my reservation was being cancelled and 'do not call Budget back again today.'. No worries, I won't ever call Budget back. I'll walk first. Tried to rent a 12' truck here. Made a reservation on-line. The employee, Joe, ignored me when I came in with no one there, then when he finally got around to greeting me, he told me that I had to purchase insurance for a minimum of a $1 Million in liability, and handed me a slip. I pointed out to him 2 things on the form he gave me. 1st that for a 12' truck the form said I only needed $56K in coverage, and on the bottom it said that it was optional and I could decline and use my own insurance. He became extremely agitated when I said this and said I have to call the insurance company. I asked him to look at the form and confirm what I read and explain it to me, he started yelling at me, threw my license and credit card back ad said he would not rent to me. Joe is the most shady person I ever dealt with. I have never had an experience like this before. He is definitely scamming customers. I called Budget corporate to complain, but after a long hold, they said they could not get a supervisor and told me I would receive a call in 24-48 hours. I went down the street to a Uhaul and was on my way in 20 mins with no hassles and for a lower price. People like Joe give this business a really bad name and Budget should do something about that. If he is the guy who is assisting you, he's probably stealing from you. Watch out. read more

If I could give a 0 star rating, I would. We made a 16ft truck reservation for our move from Boston to Chicago. My husband even went into their office to confirm our reservation the day before. We showed up at our allotted time and immediately something was off. The employee was very rude to us and told us there was no 16ft truck. He told us the previous employee would never have confirmed a reservation and that our reservation confirmed nothing. We ended up calling Penske and going to them. This is a decent place for rentals. I really like their selection of cars, they seem to always have the top-notch Ford Titanium line, whereas the Boston Logan Airport only has Ford base models. My only issue with Budget is that their website sucks and sometimes you don't get a rental if they've overbooked. The guys here are as accommodating as they can be, and they've removed some fees from my rental, after realizing there was a miscommunication. read more

This is for the Avis here This location does shady things around mileage/car condition. The car I got had over 800 more miles on it than the slip said and the back tire had low pressure and a scratch on it (also not disclosed). It literally looked liked someone took it out for a joyride before renting it to me. Joe, the employee on location, will force you to get the LDW even though it is optional. He will threaten to cancel your reservation if you don't get it. He also didn't show me the agreement which clearly says LDW is optional (There are no initials where they need to be on this agreement). Seems like this location is really shady and I will be using another service. I was renting here monthly but it wasn't until this Joe guy showed up that I started having issues. Be sure to check all things and take photos before taking the car and returning the car. read more

Standing at Budget to drop off a car at our scheduled time/location. Location is open according to all the information we received (on multiple occasions), no one is here. We are being asked to drive it elsewhere, bc we are "liable" for the vehicle, and they have no idea why there are no employees inside + haven't given us any clear direction on where we should go to . Another couple just showed up to rent a car, they had an actual pick up scheduled at this location today. Unbelievable. One of many terrible experiences while renting a car for only 24 hours. My family will NEVER use Budget Car Rental ever again!!! After the horrible experience my family and I just went through, we ONLY use Enterprise Car Rental services from now on. We paid for GPS within the rental car but never received it, and Budget refused to help us obtain a handheld GPS device our entire trip. Furthermore, we changed our car rental return date and were never refunded that money either. Therefore, Budget is keeping our $156.60 refund because our family paid for our car rental in advance. Apparently, under their contract laws, they are eligible to keep our money. If you are an AARP member, please do NOT get tricked into using Budget Car Rental services as we did. They sneak charges in with you knowing: Cannot speak for Budget as a whole but this location engages in very shady practices. On my online reservation, I opted out of road safety, personal accident coverage (as I have my own insurance) and other add ons, but on my day of pick up, they stunk in all those expenses/add-ons back in without mentioning anything. They tell you they'll email your receipt but never do. Then you get charged for 3x the amount of your original reservation. read more

I stopped by two days before my pickup and had couple questions to ask, I found place closed with a sign that "I will be back shortly" No one showed up for about 20 minutes, so I had to leave. I went the next day again and was treated very poorly. Upon picking up my car, I was running late and had called multiple times to that location to let them know I was running late, no one picked up the phone, my call was transferred to answering service and I was told that I should not be worried as they will hold the car for 15 hours, Poor customer service from the Budget Employees, They were disrespectful, I was very disrespected in front of my own young sun, my wife and other customers. I also felt like I was bullied. Car was not washed or cleaned. When I returned the car, I was told to take the car to a car wash cleaned/washed the car or they will charge me a fine or surcharger. I cleaned the car. I am a corporate training for a very big company in Boston, I train employees on customer/client satisfaction and customer service, this is my expertise. These people need more customer service training. NEVER rent from Budget! I was moving from Boston to Raleigh and made a truck reservation 2months in advanced and the day of my move I received a call "you're going to hate us" my response was excuse me..they proceeded to tell me they had 11reservations for trucks and had ZERO trucks on the lot..and that I would need to call customer support to figure out the closest truck. I swear this felt like the episode of Seinfield..anyone can take a reservation but it's actually holding the reservation that matters. So after calling customer support I was told it would take them 2hours to locate a truck..excuse me..I'm moving my truck rental was for 8am and it's now 10am and you are telling me you still need to locate a truck..how is this acceptable? To end the story budget calls me at 11am and said they will have a truck available 1hour drive outside of Boston at 4:00pm....I literally laughed at them and will be calling customer service.. bullshit service to say the least...take a reservation hold the reservation...I ended up renting a truck through Penske..do better Budget. Also a friend of mine used to work for Budget and told me they are planning to sell their business to Enterprise and are essentially running it into the ground before they sell. read more

The only reason I rented from Budget was because their website showed that they had a 16 foot truck with a hydraulic lift on the back. When I arrived, the customer service person was more focused on getting Dunkin' coffee and a newspaper than servicing customers. He said that he had never seen Budget offer that kind of truck. I pushed him on it. He called someone on the phone who said they didn't. He then handed me a brochure and told me to call the 800 number. When I got the representative on the phone, she informed me that those trucks are only for commercial accounts. After I hung up, I suggested that the employee should know his business better. He stood up in a very threatening manner and said "I'm just here to help." When I returned the truck, all of the natural parking spots were taken so I parked illegally partially blocking a side street. When I walked into the office, I was told by a very officious woman that the truck needed to be pulled into their lot to be official. I don't understand why she couldn't/wouldn't do that as it ensured that no one else would be able to pull in. Then she informed me that I needed to leave the cab clean (I had left a pizza box and a newspaper in the cab). I have rented thousands of cars and they always clean them. I understand that the back of the truck needs to be left clean because that could take a lot work to clean based upon the cargo but a couple of pieces of trash in the cab? I have never come across a less-customer-friendly rental location. Avoid Budget Truck Rental at all costs. Budget is the single worst company I have ever had to work with. DO NOT EVER USE BUDGET. They are untrustworthy and will screw you over at every turn. Do not believe any of the lies they feed you. We reserved a 16' truck 2 MONTHS in advance & received a confirmation email 2 days before our move. We showed up on the morning of our move to find that not only were they completely unable to fulfill our reservation, but they left a string of other customers empty handed with ZERO WARNING. We walked away with an 11' cargo van & the promise of unlimited mileage. We were told to call customer service & that they would correct our charges to show that we DID NOT RECEIVE WHAT WE WERE BEING FORCED TO PAY FOR. After calling Budget customer service FOUR times we are walking away with a charge that is MORE EXPENSIVE THAN WE WERE QUOTED FOR. Their customer service has been unhelpful every single step of the way & it feels like a disservice to the entire customer service industry to even call this department a service. After being told that they were "sorry for the inconvenience we had" in the least genuine tone I have ever heard, we were told that because we had been given the unlimited mileage they could not quote us for the cargo van we received. They scam you into paying for something because they know you are desperate & they will lie & deceive to make any penny they can. I cannot believe that this company is allowed to exist. I cannot say enough good things about this location and Michael the manager. I went to pick up a van the day after Harvard graduation and the last day of the month. I spent hours on the phone with Avis/Budget - (they kept claiming they were busy when in fact all computers were down NATIONWIDE) to confirm my van was there. I took a chance and went and despite being in a horrendous situation (not being able to pull up any contracts; fortunately he printed them up the night before) he took the time to get my rental done and assuage my fears of renting such a long vehicle. The car was immaculate, tank was full - kudos to detailer. When another customer came in and he was out of additional trucks he went to the ends of the earth to get one for him. DO NOT USE BUDGET CAR RENTAL!! I recently separated from the Navy with an honorable discharge after 6 years of service. As part of my separation process, my vehicle was shipped to Baltimore from Pearl Harbor, which the Navy estimated would take 45 days. I started my new job well before my car would be shipped, so I reserved a rental car through Budget. This was an enormous mistake and is costing me hundreds of dollars total as we speak. RIGHT NOW I AM BEING CHARGES FOR A CAR I AM NOT USING NOR HAVE POSSESSION OF AND BUDGET DOES NOT CARE. The Navy estimated my car would be ready for pickup in mid February, so that is when I set my return date for when I got a rental from Budget. I received a call on my very first day of work saying my car was ready to be picked up in Baltimore and I was excited. I could return my rental and save hundreds of dollars! So I bought a plane ticket to Baltimore and returned my rental to Budget. The clerk at the shop (Michael) was helpful and told me regretfully that he was unable to give me a refund for the ~30 days early return and I should call customer service. I called customer service and after speaking with an empathetic customer service representative and his supervisor I was told it was against policy to give refunds on early returns. Right now Budget rental is charging me ~$750 for a rental I returned and possibly charging someone else to rent this car for the same days. I was not told I wouldn't receive a refund until after I returned it, and even if I had kept it until my scheduled return date I would be held responsible for any problems that arose with the vehicle and having it is a huge liability to me. I deeply regret renting from Budget and am disappointed by company policy and its treatment of veterans and loyal customers. read more

If Allston Budget has fraudulently charged you a "no show" fee, call Budget Customer Service at 1-800-462-8343 and they will reverse the charge. On May 19, 2017, I used my credit card to reserve a 16 foot truck for my daughter's move from Boston to Knoxville. I was concerned about all of the bad reviews for this location, so I called back and spoke to Michael, the manager. I explained my concerns and told him I had to be sure the truck would be there on my pick up date (June 3) because we had scheduled movers for that day. Michael said he guaranteed I would have the truck because he would make a big commission from a long distance rental like mine, so he would personally make sure I got my truck. He assured me the bad reviews were from people moving locally who reserved at the last minute. Like a fool, I believed his lies. I called this Budget location at 8:00 am on June 3rd and told them we would be there within the hour. The employee, Dillon, stated that they had our 16 foot truck; however, when I arrived at my pick up time, Dillon informed me nonchalantly that he had just rented my truck to someone else. He shrugged off my anger and said it was "first come, first serve". Dillon at no time offered any apologies for putting our carefully planned move in jeopardy. When I told him I would write them a bad review, Dillon just laughed and said they did not care, "we get plenty of those." I finally ended up renting a truck at Uhaul, with no help from the Allston Budget Rental people. To top it off, they charged the credit card, which reserved my nonexistent truck, with a $50 "no show" fee. The manager and everyone who works at this Budget location are a bunch of lying, unprofessional, unethical, dishonest thieves. They will promise you anything to convince you to do business with them. The truth is, reserving a vehicle with a credit card at this location merely enters you into a vehicle lottery, because they don't want you to know they have very few vehicles to rent. They overbook each vehicle. Most importantly: DO NOT ENTRUST YOUR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION TO THIS DISHONEST BUSINESS! They make their money by charging "no show" fees to the lottery losers, who not only do not get the rental vehicle they thought they reserved, they get to pay $50 for the privilege of having to find another rental at the last minute. HORRIBLE. The worst rental car experience ever. Booked a car to be picked up at 8AM on a Sunday. Arrived at 8AM to not a single employee in the building and about 10 angry customers standing outside. Customers waited for an hour or two outside in the pouring rain on the phone with customer service. Customer service's response was the employee must have overslept and the best they could do is say go to the airport and rent a car for full price at a higher rate. This is unacceptable. We had to cancel our entire day's plan because we had an appointment we couldn't keep because of this. I am going to file a consumer report to the better business bureau, Mass attorney general, and the federal trade commission as suggested by other Yelpers. read more

Three days before the move, an agent at Budget's regional office informed me that I would not be able to pick up my truck here. Instead, I would have to drive an hour out to Franklin, MA. This is probably the worst experience I have ever dealt with in my life. I reserved a minivan to be picked up at 9am Saturday morning. When I arrived at the premises the rep told me they do not have one in stock. So he told me to come back around 10:30am, because another one is being dropped off at that time, and that I would "receive a call" once it arrived. To no surprise... I never received a call from the rep, so I decided to go back there at 11:00am. The rep told me one "just came back" and that he had "lost my contact information" and that's why he wasn't able to call me. But he had confirmed he had my phone number earlier in the system when I left at 10:30am. I was in a hurry so I did not make a big deal out of it at that time. But I had to delay my day trip for 3 hours because of Budget's incompetence and it's totally UNACCEPTABLE. I never got any compensation back or anything. Budget Allston called me at 4:00pm on a Friday (today) the day before I move at 8am Saturday to tell me that they have no trucks available. I booked this truck 20 days ago, received a confirmation email yesterday, and they choose to tell me now? I called customer service at a main office, and they were very nice and sympathetic, they agreed that this customer service was terrible on Allston's part. Allston was overbooked by about 25 reservations for tomorrow, so 24 other people would have also received a phone call the day before moving. Apparently there are no vans or trucks in all of MA for tomorrow, so I couldn't even get a replacement at another location. Ridiculous! Perhaps other Budget locations are better, but I think I'll steer clear from all. I should be packing the day before moving, not crying on the middle of my floor unsure how I'm getting my furniture to my new home, especially since I've already paid nearly $200 in parking permit alone.
