Anyone thinking about using Tesla for solar? Think again. I've had a system for about three years, and have had to call and schedule service calls NINE TIMES. Wait at home for the tech, have them reset something, only to have it fail again a few days weeks or months later. They have a service number, it takes about 30-40 minutes on hold to get thru. Recently the inverter went out, the tech came and left, didn't tell me anything. Had to call and wait on hold for another 45 minutes to find out some part is on order. Tesla Solar is a terrible company. Stay Away. read more

Tesla solar Tucson. Awful customer service. Almost impossible to get anyone on the phone. We are trying to take over the lease but they are holding up the closing. Edit: Adding one more star. After finally getting someone on the phone, I was able to point out that they had not completed the steps that they said were completed. From there, the unfinished business was taken care of. read more

This is the most frustrating customer service experience I have ever been involved in. There appears to be no continuity of communication between frontline technicians, scheduling, and the tier 2 escalation team. I am a Tesla Energy customer. Right now, I am dealing with a frustrating problem that renders more than 1/2 of my energy production offline and has other side effects. Before I get into the problem, the low review score is for the customer service and scheduling departments, not the frontline technicians who do a great job, but are hampered by no info coming from the scheduling department and tier 2 escalation. The system is a big 16.4KW system with four powerwalls for backup. This is more than enough to provide complete whole home operation at night and backup power in the event of a grid fail. The system was installed last year and it worked well for a few months, but then an inverter began to intermittently fail and then it finally stopped working. That was in October, 2023. In March, 2023, some work was done and the system started working mostly properly after a technician visit and some adjustments to the mid-circuit interrupters on the roof. Unfortunately, during peak solar, one inverter would intermittently shut down. An RMA was authorized and the tech came out in April (yes, a month after the problem was diagnosed) and he replaced the inverter. The new one is DOA and throwing error codes and rendering more than 1/2 the system dead. The technician worked until dark, made his notes and said it would get scheduled for rework soon. I waited a week and heard nothing from scheduling. When I contacted them, they magically said I need to have service scheduled due to a detected fault and the soonest appointment was in three weeks. In the meantime, I have weak power generation and when the grid has a problem, my power goes out for several minutes before the system takes over (this isn't normal). Today was the day for the new visit and I thought my system would finally be fully operational. Well, no such luck. Turns out, the field technician was dispatched without knowing what the problem was and without a new inverter. I know it's a strange concept (/s), but if you change a component and new problems appear with the new component, it's probably a faulty new component (troubleshooting 101). The technician had to reaccomplish all the work from the previous visit to confirm the same thing as before. Now, you think they may expedite this, but you'd be wrong. When I got the scheduling notification after the tech departed, the earliest date available is July 9; two months from today and 9 months from the first problem report. I contacted customer service via chat and explained how this is unacceptable and received quite the runaround. I have been extremely patient, but this is truly the worst customer service experience I have ever endured. This problem should have been squared away last year, but a seeming lack of internal communication is causing the team to fail at simple tasks. read more

Tesla energy is a horrible company to work with. Lack of communication, promises never met, they rip you off. I paid my solar lease in advance. 20 years prepaid. My solar sells were deemed defective 6 years later. Then it took over a year to replace. They called me and told me out of the blue they would replace them the next day after waiting a year. I couldn't be home. Know one ever told me they were replacing my 24 cells with 22. So they screwed me again. The call center always tells me a member of management will return my call. Never have I been able to speak to a manager. This is such crap. I should have been compensated for the year with defective solar cells. I regret going with Tesla. Make it right Tesla. Stop padding your own pockets by screwing customers. read more

After battling with tesla in scottsdale 3 times, I finally was able to figure out how to schedule at the tucson service center. They were great start to finish. The communication from this shop is top notch. When you drop off your vehicle, they ask that you drop off tesla key card inside, otherwise its completely no hassle. They provide estimate on the app, and you make payment on the app as well. Overall I cannot recommend this tesla center enough, please don't go to phx read more

Guess one star is generous at this point. Bought a home in Casa Grande a year ago and assumed the Tesla Solar lease. In early November 2019 the inverter in the garage was beeping away displaying an error code. Called Customer Service and they scheduled a Tech to come up from Tucson. The Tech determined the panels were defective and required replacement. He was sure Tesla would expedite to get us up and running again to avoid paying out too much on their performance guarantee...well he was wrong on that call. Our system has been off line ever since. I've called customer service each subsequent month for status update. Each call ended the same way with no better answer than the last call. At first I was told they were waiting on parts (how were they doing new installs with no parts?) Then the answer changed to waiting on engineering for a redesign, then several months later the redesign was done and it's gone to scheduling. That was two months ago. Last month when I called, the excuse was the Governor's COVID stay at home orders. Now we're more than two weeks past the 6 month mark since the system went down, yet the lease requires that monthly payment continue regardless. So right now we're paying for a system that doesn't work and Tesla seems to have no interest in fixing. You'd think Tesla would suspend the monthly payment until they've fixed it, but they almost laughed when I asked. Might be time to consult with an attorney. read more

Do not deal with this company. They are greedy and will tell their customers to do illegal things. My mom and me have a house in Tucson. My cousin and her husband were living there and decided to put solar panels on their own without our authorization. They contacted Solar City. The Solar City rep went to consult with my cousin and her husband. When it was time to sign paperwork and to get "OWNER" authorization, the Solar City rep told to forge our signatures stating that we gave authorization. No we are trying to sell the house and this has become an issue. The sales reps at Solar City are greedy and telling people to forge signatures just to make a sale is not ok with us. As you can see, there are plenty of bad reviews. Solar City has a lot of bad reviews. Now I know why. Seems like they are out there just to make a quick buck no matter doing it legally or illegally. They will be happy to hear from our attorney. STAY AWAY FROM SOLAR CITY!!! Do not do business with them. They are very shady!!! For them to tell the customer to forge the owners signature to make a buck is sooo wrong!!! read more

We have had faulty/failing panels for over a year now and they refuse to do anything about it. Just excuse after excuse with no solution or resolution. They inform me every time that they will "get to us when they get to us" and that I still have to pay for panels that aren't producing what was promised in our contract that they say I cannot get out of either. Do not get your panels through them. read more

I've had Tesla originally Solar City since 2013. My biggest complaint is that the sales person made several misrepresentations about the product. He had claimed I was getting a system that would cover my electrical costs 100% but I was instead sold a system that only covered 75% of my annual electrical costs. When I brought this to the attention of a District manager nothing was done about it. They actually had the nerve to try and sell me more panels. Also, after the installation I noticed they did a lousy job installing the panels and had left openings in my tile roof that could've caused problems down the road. They sent a crew back to make corrections and these guys stole some of the extra tiles I had lying in my yard. If you want to go Solar stay away from these guys. read more

I miss the old Solar City. Telsa is ANTI-CUSTOMER! My system was displaying a STATE 240 error for an unknown amount of time. After multiple attempts I was finally able to talk to a Solar Engery Support person who was less then helpful and required much pushing, finally transferred me to a Scheduler to schedule a service visit. The technician was a great guy. Old Solar City employee so experienced and knowledgeable - exact opposite of a Tesla employee. Easy enough for him, I resolved the issue on my own, before he arrived. So all he could do was simply did a check over my system and verify it had reset the system correctly following the Inverter's User Manual. The issue should have never advanced to a service call, Tesla monitoring system/team is a total joke and completely absent on monitoring the system and alerting me to the issue with my system. They should have alerted me to my system fault, but didn't. They should have noticed and alerted me that my system was not communicating with them, BUT DIDN'T. So don't know what good their 'monitoring' is, this is SECOND time they've failed! Since Tesla has taken over for Solar City, as a customer, I feel I have been totally abandoned and have been left to take care of my system on my own! Customer service is garbage, apps don't support solar customers (only for selling golf carts), online accounts are for bill pay only, email confirmations take you to Youtube video pages instead of schedulers, everything Tesla is anti-customer. I'm sorry I wasted the Tech's time. He was a great guy and I'm glad there's still a few Solar City folks around. I hope one day they can take their company back and save it! read more

Worst experience ever. Took over a lease because of u buy a home with panels u have to take the lease or u don't get the house...so basically Tesla owns a quarter of your roof. Getting the agency to respond by close out was not possible until I complained. Then upon closing of house the sellers had to repair roof...they scheduled after closing so when the solar panels had not been scheduled for removal/replacement I had to call...they wanted $4k for this service! So basically screw u and enjoy your aging roof we don't care about your safety. I could go to a third party company for removal at risk of warranty. Then I never received a bill for monthly service and my electric bill was over $200...well Tesla never sends notices, emails, snail mail how to set up service so for another wasted hour waiting for customer service (u will always wait 1+ hours for someone on phone) the guy says oh we have just been waiting for u to call when I asked if they noticed I was connected or not. I have a lot Of equipment in my house I know nothing about...i asked for a tech to come show me as a new customer how to operate this shitty equipment and they said ok $200. WTF!!!! Then he said I should have asked all these questions before I bought the house! Why am I help hostage by stupid solar panels that r not worth any savings. I asked my roofing company how they felt with solar and they said they don't work or deal with the companies because they get stuck with service bills and in the long run u will never save over 30 years what the panels have costed the home owner and at the end Of the lease the shitty equipment isn't even yours. Do not go solar and stay away from Tesla...they have the worst service and military people in Tucson do not put yourself in a complicated situation as this shit will only make your PCS a nightmare. read more

I leased our solar panels five years ago through Solar City and everything went fine until I needed service. Now, having been taken over by Tesla, service SUCKS. My inverter went out on July 1st and after repeated calls it was not repaired until Aug. 13th. That meant I paid Tesla a month and a half for NON-service as well as running up several hundred dollars in higher electric bills in the extreme heat. I asked Tesla for a rebate of merely a month's payment for lack of service, but got NO response. Solar is a great idea and saves money, but the company is unresponsive. read more

So I got interested in solar panels for my home after talking to one of my coworkers about how much less he spends on electricity. After talking to him I called Solarcity and got a free quote on how much I would pay each month to lease panels for 20 years. I live in a one story home approximately 1400 square feet. They informed me that I would pay $14.00 to TEP every month and $92.00 to them for the next 20 years. If you live in Arizona you know that you are spending a ton on electricity during the summer months. My highest bill in the summer was a little over $200.00. So this sounded like a great I investment. To break it all down for you, you are basically leasing your roof to the power company to produce power back into the grid. You can buy the panels and set your house up to run on solar but it's expensive. Otherwise you can't have the power you are producing run your house electricity. If you decide to move you prior to the 20 years you can add the solar lease on to the pricing of your house and the new owners take over the lease. Or you can have solarcity move them to your next house. There was zero money down for them to install it and you do have to sign a contract with them. There is probably a lot more to it but just call Solarcity with the questions. Overall the setting up process was super easy with this company because they basically do everything for you. The staff was very helpful and answered all my questions. They installed the panels today and they look sharp! The crew was fast and quick about installing them and it only took a day. Only issue I have is that a few of my tiles were broken during the process....so I am going to call them about fixing that. Look at my picture and you can see what im talking about. If you live in Arizona and you want to go green and pay less on electricity....call Solarcity. read more

Be very very careful with this company! After we heard their spiel, we decided to check out other local solar companies. We decided not to go with Solar City and I emailed them to let them know. We never signed ANYTHING. When the company we decided to go with went to get the appropriate permits, they could not. Why? Because Solar City had already gotten one completely without our permission! My husband had to leave work and go down to cancel it, so the company we did choose could go ahead. Very underhanded in my opinion. I wanted to give people a heads up so it doesn't happen to anyone else. Buyer beware! read more

This spring, my wife and I decided to investigate the costs and benefits of installing a photo-voltaic solar array on our home. After soliciting quotes from several companies, we selected SolarCity - based in large part on their turn-key approach (where they handle pretty much everything) and the pricing we were able to get on our 5.14 kW system. Amy (our saleswoman) was a dream to work with. She always made it convenient for us to meet with her on our schedule and in our home; no travelling to their office was ever necessary. After signing our contract, it took what seemed like a very long time for the site survey to occur, but once our roof was checked for structural integrity, the permits were submitted and approved and actual installation began in rapid succession. A note on our installation crew; they were AWESOME! (I almost gave SolarCity a five-star score just on the way the Tim's crew worked. -- Living in Tucson, we have more sunny days than cloudy throughout any given year, but the day the installers came out to begin erecting our steel-work, it poured in our neighborhood. The Tim and his fellas had to abandon our work site for safety reasons. But they were back the next morning at 0600 on the dot; just like they said they would be as then pulled out of my driveway the morning prior.) With all the great service presented by Amy, Tim and our other installers, you may be wondering why I didn't give five stars to SolarCity... besides the protracted lull of activity between contract signing and site survey, there was one other - albeit minor - hiccup: When SolarCity walked me thru turning on our system, the web-based monitoring service (called SolarGuard) didn't work. Laura (the customer service representative speaking with me on the phone from Corporate) was honest, telling us that the brand of SolarGuard web-portal used in our system had a history of intermittent problems. I thanked Laura for her candor; and she immediately opened a work order to repair the malfunctioning unit. Good news: My web portal is working perfectly now (just one day after initializing my system), so I can confidently say that SolarCity did us right in fixing the problem once it became patent. In summary, I'm certainly a fan of this company. I'm even thinking about hosting a Solar Party to show off my new system and maybe drum up some business to send SolarCity's way. read more

Solar City are nothing more the a bunch of liars, We bought a house in March of 2013 we had only received two electric bills when Solar City told us that could build a system on the two bills we had. I was told we should have 1 years of electric bills. How ever Jason was so adamant that if for some reason if the system was to small Solar City would at no charge to us would add panels to the system. Well the system was way to small and when i called that told me to bad. And that Solar city was in litigation with SRP are electric company. So nothing could be done!! I called SRP and was told Solar City could put as many panels they wonted too. Solar City keep calling me a liar, So i got solar city and SRP on a recorded three way call just to clear this up, Well SRP told Solar City exactly what i was telling them all along. The rep from Solar city said she would give it to her higher up and let me know when that could come out and stark mocking up the system and give us a proper system. I had my system for over a year and its been the best decision ever. Its amazing how easy it is to install at your home with no money down. I wish I could give a negative rating to this awful company! The salesman will lie to your face to get you to sign up. I was told I was getting a new 200 amp electrical panel installed at no cost to me and that was taken out of the deal at some point without anyone notifying me. They knew I would not go forward with the lease without the panel upgrade (which is why no one told me about it prior to the solar panel install) Once I learned what they have done (after the solar panels were installed)....I put the project on hold and have been fighting with them for the last 4 months. I will not allow the SCS side connection/Hoffman Enclosure bullshit they are trying to do. I did not agree to that! I have been ignored by every manager I have emailed. I refuse to call because they can't be trusted, everything must be documented with this company. I also questioned the panel placement/install itself. They installed 6 panels under my mesquite tree out front (which I told them not to do in our original meeting) and half of the panels are installed towards the back facing North. I have a flat roof and I have been told by other solar companies that all panels should be facing South...when I asked the managers about this via email (with pictures attached)....it was ignored as well. They lied about TEP's bill being fixed (its not) they lied about removing the panels at no charge if I decide to sell the home and the new owners don't want to take on the lease (that is not true, I am stuck for 20 years if I can't sell the lease with the sale of the house). They lied about the solar panels adding additional amperage to the electrical box once they are hooked up (100 amps is 100 amps, solar panels will not give me more than 100 amps because that is the electrical boxes max) They told me the current electrical box will be able to handle a new AC unit once everything is hooked up and that is not true. I have had 2 HVAC companies come out and both noted on the proposal that the electrical panel will need to be upgraded to accommodate a new AC unit. Not to mention the installers drilled holes into my tongue and groove ceiling because they didn't know where the rafters were??? They popped the circuit breaker trying to charge their drills (but they say my 100 amp electrical panel is fine and doesn't need an upgrade??) and didn't tell us they popped it so we woke up from a nap to the house being 95 degrees! The claim the system has been inspected by the city (and has passed) but when I called the city they have no record of ever inspecting anything at my address....I have now hired a lawyer....DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE!! read more

The money that I'm going to have to spend to fix the damages to my house will not be made back for the money I save on the solar panels for a while. The first day that they came they had to rewire my outlet box and when they did the whole back part of my house didn't get electricity. They came back a second time that same day couldn't fix it so I had to wait until the next day for the electrician to come when she came they were here for hours the shelf of my closet got broken and at the end of the day they were able to get electricity to my bathroom and my master bedroom but not my second bedroom. I had A pack rat (they new that cuz i had traps up there incase i had more than one) when I first moved into my house a couple months before they came and they said that's what caused the electricity problem not the fact that they rewired my box wrong not the fact that they couldn't find where they put the wires to get to the electricity to the house so now I'm stuck with fixing everything and they never paid or fix the closet in my bedroom either. My electricity was fine before they came and they had problems getting my electricity back on in the whole back of my house I feel like they just got tired of working and just knocked my second bedroom off as it was my own problem to deal with. read more

In August, Solar City installed solar for my home. there were problems in the installation. The panels were istalled on the flat roof of my garage, at my insistence, as I did not want panels on the spanish tile of my home. the garage and the necessary TEP meter should have been on the side of the garage but TEP objected. Consequently Solar city had to run conduit partially underground over to the house and then up the side of the house, acrpss under the roof line and to the rear where the electric meter was. The work was done efficiently and without any disruption of the garden area and under the driveway pavers where the conduit had to run. Solar cioty workers were competent, good tempered and pleasant despite this problem.. They gave me a number where they could be reached if there was any problem. Our experience with SolarCity was a positive one. During the initial consultation, Peter Bloch patiently and thoroughly explained the cost and environmental benefits of going solar. We did experience some installation issues but SolarCity rectified all issues and made good on all promises. Everyone we dealt with at SolarCity was knowledgeable, helpful, and patient. Peter remained involved throughout the entire installation process, ensuring that all concerns were addressed to our satisfaction. Seeing your electric meter turn in reverse and knowing that less hydro carbons are being released into the atmosphere should be incentive for all to embrace and install solar power. Since you can save a buck and benefit the environment at the same time, why not give solar power a serious look? We chose to lease the solar system from SolarCity with no out-of-pocket cost, but you can also choose to purchase the system out-right. Choose the best option for your situation. Wow, did Solar City ever screw me over. I went through the entire process with them to design and engineer my home system, and that part was fine. I live in the Tucson, AZ area, and net metering was going to be ended by the local utility on 2/24/17. In early February, my Solar City sales rep GUARANTEED that my paperwork had been submitted, and I was absolutely "grandfathered" in for net metering. I verified this with him not once, but twice! He even told me he spoke at the Arizona Corporation Commission meeting on behalf of Solar City, so there was no gray area on what was at stake. I also communicated with the customer service "concierge", who also assured me my paperwork had been submitted and we were good to go - this was 2/9/17. They told me it would be about 16 week for utility approval, then we do the install. The end of April comes, and I am contacted by someone at Solar City that is new to my project and doesn't know any of the details. He tells me the other sales rep is gone and....................they did not submit my paperwork in time for the net metering deadline. They lied to me, then basically said "too bad, so sad, you lose". My advice is run, don't walk away from these crooks. Typical corporate clown show, where one hand has no idea what the other is doing and they will tell you whatever you want to hear. Then, when they screw you, they won't do anything to make it right. You would be much better off with a smaller, local company that actually cares about their customers. Solar City may have good intentions, but their execution and internal communication is a joke. read more

So heres the install update. I was given a 2 hour window of the installers to show up and the arrived 29 mins early! How often does that happen. And i was also told by the scheduler that it would take 2 days and they worked for 12 hours and got it done in 1. Now for those of us in the know this is a tactic that smart companies use to make sure the customer doesnt complain about time of the job just in case it did take longer, however i was seriously impressed with them knocking it out in a day. There was a lot of work to be done. Hopefully i can load my pics. All of the crew were curtious and respectfull and kept me in the loop as much as possible and always warned me before doing anything major i.e. power shutoffs. Those are the pluses and just because im a nit picker i will give you just a few negatives but they really are minor. When they were ready to leave they had forgotten to give me the device to install into my router, thankfully i even knew about the device thanks to the foremen in the morning explaining everything to me. Second there was about a half dozen pieces of trash left in my yard, personal and job related trash. But small potatoes i picked it up in a few minutes. All in all id give them an A-. Email follow up was quick but guessing it was automated. As well as with the new smart thermostat they install which is pretty cool. Control it from my phone no matter where im at. Now waiting on building inspector and electric company before i can turn on the panels. Thats definitely a draw back is the time involved but it is of no fault on Solar City. I will update again after inspection and turn on of services. But installers kicked some butt for sure. I guess go to my profile pics to see completed work. read more

I was approached by Daniel Eftimoff and given the opportunity to hear a little bit about the options that are available for going solar. I decided to go with a solar lease that allowed me to start saving money without spending a dime. Daniel was very knowledgeable and happy to answer all my questions. I may have bugged him a little more than he would have likes but he never showed it. The installation was quick and the team was very professional. as promised I started saving money right away and saving the earth as well. Thank you so much Daniel and SolarCity for the opportunity to create my own power and take control of my energy production. If you would like to go solar, call Daniel at 520-309-6736 and you won't regret it! read more

Solar City at the beginning seemed to have internal problems communicating with their staff--sales-installation. Then I was made aware that the salesperson I dealt with was no longer with the Company. After that things to move about smoothly. The installers came and were very efficient, courteous and professional. I in fact took the leads name and suggested they do my daughters house coming up in two weeks. Once installed the next little snag came with my needing a new router. I did go and purchase a router and they did help me set it up. The inspectors. The two inspections came asap. Installation complete on Monday and the County was there on Tuesday with TEP on Thursday. It was operational within the first week. Now I have received my first TEP bill and there was a savings on the one week the solar was in place. The one week savings equated to 30%. I will now track every month henceforth. So far I am pleased with the total process and will keep track of my payback to be sure. read more

Update on previous review of Solar City. I mentioned in my first review that all employees were very helpful and effective. The process from initial appointment to turning on the panels requires steadfast patience. My initial appointment was March 4. Finally, TEP came out to install the meter this week. Because 3 small warning placards had not been placed on the equipment, TEP regulations would not allow the employee to install the meter. He reported to me that another appointment would need to be scheduled after the placards were installed. Solar City responded rapidly and had the placards on the equipment by the end of the day. Jeff Edwards, my personal representative reported that he would insure that another appointment was scheduled as soon as possible in order to install the meter and turn on the panels. Many thanks to Jeff and Solar City for responding quickly. I would suggest that future Solar customers become closely involved in the installation process in order to make sure that any details are not overlooked. Otherwise, you may experience a delay in the start-up process. read more
