A year ago while at the Fullerton train station I saw 'TERRY'S AUTOMOTIVE" on Santa Fe Av. Many years ago I had used a 'Terry's Automotive' not fa away. I went in to see if it was the same 'Terry's' from 20+ years ago and it was! I was pretty sure right then that any of my car problems would be fixed and the price would be fair. I was right on both. Maybe I got lucky but Monday morning while returning from a LAX trip I called to make an appointment to drop off my car and it get checked out. They told me come in before noon and they could get right to it. I had 2 problems and within 2 hours they called with an estimate and it would be ready before 5pm! I expected to pay almost twice as much and pick it up tomorrow maybe. ps I sometimes browse through 1-star reviews of places I've been to, or might be going to to see if there is in anything in common. I needed to have my wheel locks checked out to make sure the wheel lock opener fits the lug nuts on my car wheels. I had a bad experience at Kia of Huntington Beach where they were not honest with me about my wheel lock set. So, I came to see Mat and he checked out all my wheels for me. He is the best mechanic I know in all of Orange County. I trust him, his word, and with my car. I have brought all of my cars to him for years, and he has never let me down. I had a conversation with him about my Prius, which had a 100,000 on it and unlike some dishonest mechanics, he didn't try to get me to do any unnecessary maintenance work. They deserve 5+ Matt and Terry are always helpful, courteous and offer advice to AVOID future issues (and costs). I have an occasion where my starter acted up (for me). It was there for two days, Matt said it started for him every time, no issue. Gave the car back to me with, "it's kind of a mystery, but it's fine!" no bill, no fake starter repair or replacement. Not Happy. Took my car in today for brakes. Terry, the owner, refused to do the work for me, even though I had set aside the time, willing to pay, and had an appointment for it. I wanted this repair taken care of before summer. I was told I didn't need it but I knew I was close to needing it and wanted it done. Hell or high water, the man would not do the job for me today. My family has been taking our cars to Terry's for 15+ years. They are extremely honest and fair, stand by their work and will let you know if they are not the best shop for a particular job. A few examples of their honesty...1) My sisters first car was a 1984 beater Ford Mustang. There was a crack in the power steering pump and it leaked. Terry said the cost to replace it would be about as much as the car was worth. He gave her a case of power steering fluid and said to re-fill the pump when it gets empty and get a new car. Another shop probably would've sold her a new pump and pocketed a few hundred dollars. 2) My sister took her new car in because the "brake light" lit up on the dash. She assumed that meant she needed new brakes. Turned out she was just low on brake fluid. Terry refilled it for free and sent her on her way. Another shop might've sold her new brakes/rotors etc. for hundreds of dollars. 3) I took my truck in for some work (can't remember what). About a week prior I had my alignment done at a shop Terry recommended. It turned out that they did not tighten some parts of my suspension correctly and had I not taken it to Terry's when I did I could've been in a serious accident. Terry made the truck safe to drive, called the alignment shop for me and let them know of the problem so I could take my truck back and have them redo the alignment. Another shop might not have noticed the faulty repair job and certainly wouldn't have taken the time to help a customer correct it at another shop. I HIGHLY recommend Terry's automotive. You'd be hard pressed to find a more honest and fair repair shop in OC. read more

I was turned on to this mechanic by coworkers, mostly female. Our company has a Fleet Manager who maintains our co. vehicles mostly by himself, but as needed goes to Terry's. Good referral right there. As I've needed repairs and maintenance done, big and small, I ask around as to who goes where. The ladies at the office all go to Terry's with confidence! I've always found it intimidating (being a not-mechanically inclined female) going to a repair place and being at the mercy of whatever they told me I needed. Twice I have taken 2 different cars to other places, gotten a quote, stating I'd have to check finances and get back to them. Went to Terry's and one time the problem was not what the other place told me, and the other time Terry's was 1/2 the price. Totally confident with them - not going anywhere else. One more thing - the extra mile. I took my car in for an oil change this week and picked it up about noon. Later in the day I took a break to run an errand and when I got back in the car, I couldn't get my key to turn. I called and talked to Matt, told him the situation and that I wondered if I got towed to their shop if it was something they could fix or did I need to take it to the dealer (I was thinking my ignition was shot). He asked where I was, I was less than a mile away, so he told me to hold on and he'd be RIGHT OVER!!! Who does that?!?! Good, ol' plain ol' great service shops with GREAT customer service still do!! My key was worn out by the way, he got my car started, suggested I use my spare and get a new spare made off of my spare. Done. I can't say enough good things about this place and their performance and customer service. read more

Really honest guys here. We don't live in the area, so when we needed our car serviced, we called and the guy that answered the phone told us to check the warranty with the dealer first. What mechanic does that? Turns out it was covered, but we needed my mom's car checked to make sure it was drivable. They checked it, gave it the ok to go, made their recommendations for our mechanic up in LA, again honest and wonderful service.
