This is a rooftop restaurant and it has a very nice view, although there were tons of bees everywhere, which was annoying. The surface was excellent, and everybody worked really hard to try to make this successful , especially with a larger group. Some food items were great like the appetizers , however, sadly, the main courses were marginal at best. Also, if you have a large group, you will be asked to pay a deposit and you have to make sure that your bill is at least the amount of the deposit or higher. Basically use it or lose it! Three of the main courses were steak so we assumed the steaks would be really good . The Manhattan cut steak was a really poor cut, full of fat and tendons, and not good steak at all. The lobster ravioli didn't even taste like lobster. It looked nice, but it didn't taste great. Incredibly, the fries appetizer was much tastier than any of the main meals. We waited almost 45 minutes before even ordering appetizers I had the William Gray Burger, which was average. Expected more with the duck bacon! The last time we were here, later evening, they were fully booked. This time we were later afternoon (5:45) and tables were open. Our choices were order food to sit at a table or find a couple of spots at the Bar. We chose to order food. We started with a couple of Cocktails. Spicy Passion Fruit Margarita and an Espresso Martini. Delicious Margarita given the Passion Fruit twist. Martini was also tasty. We weren't ready for Dinner so we went with their Charcuterie. We went in their dome experience and it was absolutely amazing. The server was super nice and gave amazing recommendations for food and drinks. You can see the old port into the distance and they even had a small fireplace to roast marshmallows. The food was absolutely amazing. Each dish did not disappoint. This is definitely something I would bring people to who are visiting Montreal for the first time. I highly recommend this place especially during the winter. This is a buzzy scene--a popular brunch destination for tourists due to the lovely rooftop view of the Montreal harbor. The patio is covered so it isn't too hot or sunny and is protected from the elements. No complaints about the Aperol and Campari spritzes, chicken and waffles, and charcuterie platter which has really excellent sheep's milk cheeses. I do wish that there were some lunch options during brunch service and a wider menu but I'm guessing the staff is already stretched thin. Be prepared to wait a few minutes even after your res as both the host outside the hotel and the host at the entrance of the restaurant get backed up. Service is friendly and efficient. Started with the French onion soup - ok flavor, but so hot it was hard to eat and everyone at the table burned their tongues. Steak frites and tuna for Mains. Meat was chewy and undercooked. Fries were soggy. Tuna was fine but underwhelming. Our waiter was nice and made it up to us with free dessert and tea, but overall still an overpriced experience for not very good food and slow service. The punchline? Absolutely beautiful views of the most beautiful part of town - perhaps the best views in Montreal. It's clearly very popular, but I was able to snag a table for 4 at 5:30 the same morning. The wait staff was nice and we were able to arrange a surprise dessert for a friend who was celebrating his birthday. We were there just for drinks - all their cocktails tilt heavily to the sweet side, but I asked them to customize my second drink to be more bitter and it came out excellent. The staff is AMAZING! First heard of this place from a friend who stayed nearby and it was recommended by their concierge. THEY ARE OPEN EVEN IN THE WINTER (except for 11 days when they build the see-thru igloos atop the Terrasse). The views are amazing, the drinks delicious and can even sit at the bar just for drinks under heaters. The food is unique but a little pricey, but I figure that's how they attract and keep great employees. They have blankets out if you need them also. read more

We were looking forward to this meal both because of the ratings we had seen and the renowned view. Well... at least the view was good. For us, the food and atmosphere was that of a quintessential "Tourist Trap." Now, before I get into why this place was SO disappointing, I do want to give a shout-out to the staff, particularly the host staff who were absolutely wonderful, kind and accommodating. Too bad the food isn't worthy of their excellence. Despite their wonderful demeanor, the overall service was rather slow, but that was well beyond their purview from what we could tell. We started the evening with two Aperol Spritzes. The traditional Aperol Spritz is three parts prosecco, two parts Aperol and one part club soda. They were not very good and I'm pretty sure there was almost no prosecco in our $16 drinks. For dinner, I ordered the Manhattan steak at $58. With the sauce it was, indeed, tasty, but nowhere worth the price - even if it were 50% off!! It was just "okay" as far as high-dollar steak dinning goes. The dish also came with steamed vegetables and halved fingerling potatoes. Both were very ordinary and the vegetables were very plain, unseasoned, overcooked and cold. There was baby broccoli, asparagus, quartered zucchini and one green bean. I don't know about you, but when I'm paying top dollar, I expect some seasoning, sauce or special flavor to the vegetables other than their natural flavor from steaming. They were quite dull and disappointing. My wife had the flank steak, which was also good, but unremarkable and, again, nowhere near worth the price. If you want a place for a nice view and overpriced drinks and food, you'll love it here. However, it's is very, very crowded, and quite loud as well. I don't know why operators of such venues have to have loud music playing, because almost NO ONE goes there to listen to music. We go to enjoy the company of others, which is harder to do when you have to shout and strain to hear with others are saying. Also, IMHO, if you are over 50, you're not nearly cool enough for this venue - I don't care if you're Tom Scientology-Poster-Boy Cruise, you won't fit. Now, I'm not adverse to a high dollar meal, but I DO expect to get my money's worth. Terrasse William Gray didn't come close to that. I wouldn't recommend it and wouldn't go back even if it were free. read more

Going to old Montreal was a last minute decision. We walked through St Paul and into the open square where buskers and artisans were more visible. Over looking the area, we spotted a few rooftop restaurants. We thought it had been awhile since we visited one and a first for us in this city. This trendy restaurant sits ontop of the hotel, not many hotels have one in the Old Port. You would need to reserve during peak dinner hours and if not there is a waiting list of more than an hour. We went to this one and since it was already after 8pm, we didn't wait more than 5 minutes. To our disappointment, we were seated at a different rooftop overlooking an alley and not the panoramic view of the harbour where the big ferris wheel is and the Cirque de Soleil tent. We ordered shared meals of shrimp and chicken. We found the chicken dry and the meal ordinary for the price. The shrimp was well worth it and it is a popular choice. We ordered wine and after the lockdown, everything is sooo expensive! Our bilingual waitress was great and very knowledgeable...phew... $$$ read more

Loved the character of this building. It was stylish being in the old Port. The terrace was gorgeous with a view of the Ferris wheel and the water. The terrasse is tucked upstairs of the hotel, which has easy access by stairs or elevators. It's lovely all of the plants outside and the seating is comfortable. They have an amazing cocktail menu and a beautiful selection. Staff is very nice and professional. Went here for dinner with friends. This is a very nice covered rooftop terrace with a great view of the river and the Ferris wheel. The glass walls are high enough to handle any cold winds. They have a great selection of shareable dishes, salads, main (meat and fish) and good desserts. We had green salads for starters. Very good, but big portions, almost a full meal. For the main course I wanted the beef ribs, but they were out, so I did the tuna. It was cooked to order and delicious. Honestly, I don't remember much of the experience here, but the only thing that has been BURNED into my brain, was how amazing their Steak Tartare was. Funny thing is, it wasn't even my dish, it was my friend's. This steak tartare, if I remember correctly, had a honey ginger soy, that was blended into the meat and it was absolutely fantastic! I kid you not, I have been chasing every steak tartare I come into contact with hoping for that amazing flavor in my mouth again, I fail, everytime. Come here for the view, not the food. We came here for brunch on a sunday and got the spot at the corner with an amazing view of the old port. However, the food was not that great. We got the fries with truffle mayo, the casserole and the eggs benedict. The casserole was ok. The truffle mayo was very flavorful, but the fries were very soggy. The eggs benedict were not so good. It said on the menu that it comes with white ham but somehow we got salami on it without any notice of change in the menu. The salami was very salty and overpowered the rest of the flavors. Some of the leaves in the salad went bad (dark and slimy) but still managed to be in our plate. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. For the pandemic, they all wear masks and visors and also provide antiseptic at the entrance. read more

Barb and I made our first visit to Terrase William Grey for lunch today. The experience was great, highlighted by the spectacular view and very welcoming service. Everyone from the doorman, hostess and waitress were all super friendly. I ordered fried shrimp and fries, Barb ordered the Salmon Tataki. The wine list was a little thin but I found a nice Sancerre that paired beautifully with the dishes. The shrimp dish was OK, tasty but small shrimp (40 count?). The fries were a little undercooked and I barely dented the large serving. The Salmon on the other hand was excellent, having a nice salty coat sliced thin and served basically raw. So mixed reviews on the food but the service and view were 5 star, I can see us becoming regulars here for sunset cocktails! read more

We came back last weekend to enjoy the sun and the location of this great terrace. This time however, the 1st waiter we got kinda ruined the experience. (I have his name but decided not to write it on here. Will provide upon request) First of, we came in and were seated pretty much right away. We asked for a bottle of Pinot Grigio, he insisted that "It's really not good! I suggested you take this other one" and pointed to the most expensive one on the list. So we said "ok if it's not good we'll have the Sauvignon" and again, same thing happened, he insisted it's really not good, that we should take the most expensive one on the list. A little annoyed but also didn't want to have "bad wine" (WHY DO YOU GUYS SELL BAD WINE????) we hesitated, we just didn't like how he was acting with us. Then he suggested a bottle of Kim Crawford and I said I remember not liking it but ok, let's try that. After having ordered, we saw a table next to the railing was freed up so we immediately asked the waiter to switch us (at this point there was no one in the line up) He looked at us and said "hmmmmmm no u cant", when I asked "why not?" he took a few seconds to make up: "hmmmmm they're reserved" (which is a lie because u cannot reserve there) So it was a back and forth of me asking nicely but stern to switch table and him condescendingly answering back bullshit. He then pretended to ask the host and came back to basically tell us the same thing again. At this point, here were 3 empty tables near the railing. We would have gotten up and leave at this moment if it wasn't for the fact that he just came up at our table w the bottle. He remained very condescending throughout the tasting of the wine. We remained civilized and never lost our cool. This review would have been ONE STAR if it wasn't for the second waiter saving it. That star goes to Mikaël (i'm sorry I didn't ask how to spell his name so Im assuming this is how one writes it) who was courteous and nice. The food was fine. We had a beet salad and an order of fries. However, when they came to take our plates away, no one actually asked if we were done. It felt like they wanted us out so they could sell the most expensive bottle to the next customers. Also, the name Benjamin B on the bill is a code they use for ALL the waiters. First of all, I have nothing bad to say about the service and the staff. Our waiter was very helpful, explained everything to us. The food arrived quickly, the whole place isn't too crowded so it doesn't get obnoxiously loud. My main concern with this place is the price. A sangria pitcher, which is around 60$, gets you about 4 glasses, and is FILLED with ice and barely any alcohol, we didn't enjoy drinking it. We then ordered other drinks, and the same thing happened, not a lot of alcohol, mostly ice. I like the uniqueness of the drinks, I just wish I could enjoy drinking it. As for the food, the fries were very good, although the plate was small. Definitely get the truffle mayo to go with the fries. Do not get the salmon tataki. No ingredients in that plate were harmonious, everything from the texture to the taste to the price was terrible (28$ for a tiny portion). Overall, the view from this restaurant is incredible and maybe that's what makes it so special. read more

Great rooftop right in the heart of old Montreal. I wasn't hungry when I came here but wish I was as the food looked amazing. The views are why you come here - beautiful panoramas of Montreal and the water. I drank a moet champagne which was great. My girlfriend ordered a cocktail which she didn't love.
