I had booked Guardian Pest Control several weeks before my wedding to spray for mosquitoes…read more Unfortunately it rained this week. Knowing it was going to rain, I called on Monday to ask them to come earlier in the week to make sure the grounds were sprayed. They told me "not to worry about it" and that they would "take care of it." This was untrue. Now the day before my wedding, it is raining. They refuse to spray. That's not even the worst part. I spoke with Abbey, a manager in the store. She was dismissive, rude, and defensive about her poor customer service and her company's failure to live up to its responsibility. In fact, she refused to take any responsibility, blaming the weather and saying there was "nothing they could do." I did point out they could have come earlier in the week, they could have communicated with us better that they wouldn't be able to spray with the rain, and that we might have issues. But we were left in the dark until the day before the event that there would be no spraying. This was upsetting, and then on top of that to have Abbey be condescending on the phone with people who do not know pest control or what it entails was the worst customer service experience of my life. I will be reporting to the better business bureau, and I would never recommend this company for any special event. I was able to contact Orkin who took care of my pest needs and were pleasant and appreciative of the fact this was my wedding and a very important occasion.

After Jeff got rid of the flying squirrels (without killing them; he used a one-way trap and sealed the hole in my house), I thought I heard them in the house again. Turns out, I had gray squirrels instead ... Jeff came out to set a one-way trap for the gray squirrels - and while he was at it, he sprayed a yellow jacket nest that he happened to walk by. Even when I offered to pay for the trap and the yellow jacket, he didn't charge me. He said it was included in my original issue. These guys are stand-up businessmen who really know how to treat a customer. I will continue to recommend them to my friends if they have any pest problems.

Wildlife control is one of those services you don't think about til you need it, then you think…read moreabout it a lot! There is a decent number of firms in our area (greater Hartford) who advertise this service, and the DEEP has a page with a large listing by town, which is how I found Bearfoot. Also interesting: getting a callback is tough, and when I finally did connect with three of them, was told they did not do it ("could not" was the operative term). Maybe my job was too small? It was a skunk removal. An adorable striped skunk with the whitest back you've ever seen dropped into a basement window well and was unable to get himself out, even when I put down a wooden plank for him to climb out. Everyone says that they are great diggers but lousy climbers, so that was not a surprise. Cute as he was, you know that the end of the story was not going to be pleasant, whether dead or alive, and last year our dogs tore a skunk open in the backyard with predictable and lasting results, so I wasn't really eager to have him hanging around anyway. Once it was evident that I wasn't going to get a quick return call I shifted into high gear and started dialing for dollars. Eight calls in total, and one of them was to Frank Marcello at Bearfoot. He called back right away and was very professional, helpful and consultative. Frank was more than willing to help us out, and made it work later that same day. He gave me a window for his likely arrival and said he'd text beforehand, and was as good as his word, giving a heads-up when on the way and arriving right about when predicted. Once here, he swang straight into action and did a quick situation assessment. The window well is deeper than typical (it's an older house), and some fancy footwork was required to get the little feller free without making him feel like he needed to spray all over. And bravo Frank, he made it happen! I have no idea how he was able to pull the skunk out without tripping that spray response, but he did and it was pretty atraumatic for all, very little drama. Exactly the outcome we hoped for. Cannot speak highly enough about Frank's professionalism and capability. Call Bearfoot first and save yourself the hassle of all that dialing for dollars I did.
