We recently popped into Teriyaki Time on our way through Oak Harbor (and craving some lunch). We split a chicken/pork teriyaki combo and an order of spring rolls. It was all delicious! The service was fast and friendly, and they also have an actual sushi bar on-site which we didn't try (but I will make a note of it for the future). This is a pretty reliably good teriyaki place. I usually get the pork Teri and it's always flavorful. This last time is was a little dry but they are very good at giving sauce and condiments. The last time my wife got the chicken yakisoba and we shared. That was a fairly good dish with big portion. It looks like they have pretty good sushi with a dedicated chef at a little sushi bar seating. I've not tried it but might sometime. All in all this is not as good as some of my favorite places in king county where I live full time but one of the more reliable Asian dining in Whidbey so when through Oak we occasionally eat here. They are closed on Sundays or we would eat here and maybe Sushi more often when we have more time on Sunday errands. Nice folks always. read more

This is a great place to grab some quick sushi, the prices range from $6-$20 a roll, but some of the rolls are so massive that you might only be able to finish one! They are always super quick with orders, and have always been very friendly! I haven't tried any of the meals yet, but they look delicious, and there's so much to choose from. When it comes to nigiri and sashimi, I am super picky because I really enjoy raw fish and it needs to be edible. I came to Teriyaki Time for the first time for nigiris and it wasn't too bad. I first checked to see if they got all of my order, which they did. Great. Then I saw the presentation. Great. As soon as I was taking a look, the salmon and tuna seemed good. It shows the salmon and tuna had been ordered often so their products are constantly coming in and we get decently fresh fish. The white tuna, yellowtail, and the red snapper caught my attention. It seems to me as if the fish was frozen and defrosted repeatedly. Please tell me if I am wrong but the texture just by looking at it threw me off a little bit. So I was skeptical. Then I took a whiff of the fish and it smelled straight up ginger and lemon. Also pretty skeptical. Overall, I would definitely go back for regular tuna and salmon. One thing I would like to mention is that I know that the market prices have gone up but has it gone up that high?!?! Could some please explain? Ended up at Teriyaki Time after arriving at Sushi Harbor to find out it was closed due to new management. Thankfully Teriyaki Time proved excellent. It's been a few years since we've been there, pre-pandemic, and things have changed a bit such as ordering and paying at the register to reduce exposure, not that it matters any longer. The sushi was excellent and innovative. We ordered the White X-mas (Christmas) roll and the Red Devil roll. The White Christmas roll was intriguing with its wasabi cream sauce and coconut sprinkled on white tuna. Delicious! Good to revisit old haunts and be pleasantly surprised. read more

Found this place on Yelp and had a friend boast it. Spent quite a bit of money in a order for a family of 3 ($70 with a tip) Stir fry with tofu- really good flavor and crunchy veggies. Mango salmon roll- was okay. Not a lot of flavor or pop. Orange chicken- was great. Lots of flavor. Tiger Eye- not enough salmon and bland. Was basically a jalapeño popper. Katsu roll- not much flavor, dry chicken, and didn't hold together well as a roll. Miso- was what you'd expect. Would go back and try different items but not dying to go back. read more

Unfortunately, we went to have dinner their tonight and the guy behind the counter was down right rude to the point we just left! He first said grab a menu and sit down to come back to the counter to order. We have been there several times and knew what we wanted - and how this place works (I.e- you order first at the counter, pay , take your number, sit at a table and await your food). We went to order sake nigiri and he then debated about what "sake" was to us referring to the alcohol. After a few exchanges and others walking out, we decided we didn't need this treatment and went to reputable place in town that has sake nigiri on the menu (see the picture below) and took care of us! This restaurant is nice and clean. However, this business has gone downhill in my opinion. They used to pay attention to the details and provided reliable service. Now, I find that is no longer the case. Multiple times I've placed takeout orders, just to find out they got my order wrong when I sat down to eat my meal. Another time, I ordered House Fried Rice which is supposed to include chicken, beef and shrimp, well there was only a small portion of chicken and nothing else. It was plain and lacked flavor. We ordered beef Yakisoba and that had 2 slices of beef no bigger than a tablespoon and a few tiny (no joke! I am not exaggerating it was just a few pieces and they were tiny) bits of beef, 2-3 broccoli, cabbage and carrots. It also seems like they are serving reheated items and refreshing them with sauce because the General Tao and orange chicken were dry and chewy as heck. I gave them the benefit of the doubt several times because mistakes happen and I want to keep supporting small businesses. I can also understand price increases these days, but it's not acceptable to sacrifice quality of service and products at the same time expecting customers to pay higher prices. At least maintain the same quality of service and products. This place used to be one of our favorite places to go. Unfortunately, I find this place very disappointing and will no longer be supporting them. With this name, you'd expect a tiny restaurant with 5 kinds of Teriyaki on the menu and not much else. That couldn't be further from the truth!! This restaurant has a menu that is over 8 pages long! They do Japanese Teriyaki, Korean bulgogi, tons of Chinese entrees, plus they have a SUSHI CHEF on the clock at all times. You walk in and find half of the restaurant is tables and the other half is bar seating around the sushi counter. The glass sushi case shows fresh filets of fish and other delicacies of the ocean. The Teriyaki is always smothered in sauce. Too much in my opinion. It's best to get sauce on the side. The side salad is really nice though, with artisan greens and a perfect amount of salad dressing already mixed in. The sushi was huge! To be honest the physical size of each piece was almost too big. I think this only applied to the Seattle roll because there were three different types of fish inside of it. It looked like other rolls were normal size. None the less, it was delicious. Definitely one of the best sushi rolls on the island. The service was fine. I was really surprised that the sushi was as good, but then again it mostly had to do with what I ordered. I have great taste it sushi. The roll was huge, but not in the good way. It was ruled really weirdly. Anyways. I was feeling like a fatty and also ordered an order of bulgogi. It tasted good, but not like bulgogi. I think they use the pre made marinade and not a whole lot else. I asked what kind off veggies it came with, because I'm used to some din bap, or at least kimchi, but no. The guy told me there was onions and mushrooms and stuff, but it turns out it was cooked with the meat. I was disappointed. My only complaint is that the rolls could have been a smidge tighter to make eating with chopsticks easier, but that's not enough to stop me from ordering here again. I give this 4 stars bc of the really nice young lady who took my order amidst all of the chaos. However, there is no rhyme or reason to this place. They need a little more structure to their waiting area or whatever they want to call it. I walked in and there were people. Everywhere. I had no clue what was going on. Went there based on yelp reviews. Judging by location I assumed it would be a "takeout" type of place, nope. People were milling around leaning in windowed walls, chairs, tables, etc. so I hop in what looked like a line. Only two couples were over in the "dining" space actually "dining" the others sitting were clearly loitering. After 10 min in line I get to the tiny register area, I order and told it'll be 45 min. Aha! Now I understand this mess of people! So we join them.... We get our food finally, yes it took every bit of that 45 minutes, and head home. The food was really good. It was a little on the pricey side for the look and feel of the place, but the portion size was ok I guess. Two takeouts and it was over $20, for a 5 yr old and an adult. That was a little steep for me considering half of it went in the garbage the next day. But the girl was really nice and moving just a quick as she could taking orders, getting yelled at by the cook, waiting the two tables and bagging up the orders. Ordered a pork teriyaki and chicken & pork teriyaki. The pork itself is for someone else, but I ate my portion (chicken & pork). One of the best teriyaki I've ever tried. Def the best for the chicken, as it is actually nice and tender (most other places gives you these big pieces that are hard to chew) and the pork was also definitely really tender and delicious. I do like that they give you the meat wrapped in foil since it keeps it hotter longer and the meat can soak in the juices and sauces longer. Also, super nice staff! I actually called outside checking to see if I could just hand them my card from outside to pay because I forgot my mask and I walked over in the rain, wind, and cold, so didn't really wanna walk back. They said I didn't need to wait outside and the chef at that time brought out a mask for me :) they were super busy, too! So all in all, great food and great customer service. My friends is around 18-19 the same age as the girls who work at teriyaki time and word around is many teenagers can't even order food here because when they give their name and number for their order, Lexi will hang up. Besides that, Darcy is the main issue, she seems nice but I've heard her make extremely racist comments towards customers. Saying she has "never met a black woman who's happy or polite. Another time a Mexican family who barely spoke English was dining in and she made a comment that "they're going to dine in for so long, ask for so much sauce, and not leave a tip." And she continued to say how there's a Mexican restaurant right across the street they could've gone to. This business is owned and ran by a Korean man and the kitchen staff is Korean, they make items off menu for themselves to eat during lunch, and Darcy made a comment that they make "that nasty shit. And i don't know how anyone can eat that". Also said how she doesn't give a f*** about their culture, they can't speak English so they need to listen to her when she says something is wrong. Yes please. It's not to say that their teriyaki dishes aren't good, because they are and for a VERY good value. This place gets 4 stars and not 3 due to that fact alone. $10 for the Chicken and Gyoza combos... a large bento style tray of food... That knocks China Harbor down the street out of the ballpark. I tried the General Tao's Chicken here and it is good with LARGE portions at great value. It isn't as good as China Harbor's, but those guys are stupid expensive and skimpy on portions.
