I've tried ordering from this place four separate times through DoorDash and each time I showed up for pickup, the restaurant was completely closed and locked, even though it was during the hours they list as open. At this point, it's not just an inconvenience, it's a pattern. It's frustrating to place an order, drive over and then be left standing outside with no explanation. If the hours are inconsistent or change frequently, that needs to be reflected accurately online so customers aren't wasting their time. It's especially disappointing because this is one of the only legitimate options for sushi on the island, so I'd really like to support them but reliability matters. Been here about six times and I am sad to say it's just plain okay. The vegan menu options are very limited (seaweed salad, cucumber roll, avocado roll), even the tofu appetizer has fish on it. We are in town visiting quite often, but this was our first time ordering takeout from here.The beef bibimbap was so fresh and delicious, and the house made sauce was some of the best I've ever had.! I added avocado to my bowl. I also had the sunomono cucumber salad on the side and it was so tasty and fresh, and quite a larger portion than I had expected. I could have made a meal of it alone. We ordered the beef bulgogi that was quite spicy, but had good flavor. The chicken teriyaki was a tad dry, but one of the kids enjoyed it, so I didn't mind. I finally decided to check out the new Japanese restaurant in Oak Harbor. Sushi Moto. I spent a couple years in Japan. It was a small town on the outskirts of Tokyo called Atsugi. So, I have a little experience with authentic Japanese food. I ordered gyoza appetizer with Tonkatsu entrée. I have never been a fan of sake, so I decided to just have water with my meal. The gyoza was served just a couple minutes before the entrée, but I still managed to eat three of them. I found them to be crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. Very tasty! I did eat all of them, eventually. The Tonkatsu was awesome. Thinly breaded pork cutlet that was crispy and delicious. There were two cutlets in the serving. I was delighted to see the cutlets were served on a little grate to keep the cutlets from getting soggy by sitting on the plate. So cool! The entrée was served with steamed rice and miso soup. I am not a fan of soups, usually. But I tried the miso so I could comment on it and found it to be delicious too! I totally enjoyed my meal at Sushi Moto, the service was friendly and efficient. Had an amazing experience with my daughter tonight. Showed up at 4:30pm and there was open seating everywhere. The restaurant has an authentic feel and atmosphere. The sushi here is soooo good. Even better though is the service. I have a friend who is Gluten Free and Dairy Free. The server explained the menu thoroughly, then went above and beyond by bringing a salad with a GF & DF dressing that wasn't on the menu, and pointed out that there might be trace amounts of gluten in the wasabi. I had dinner there last night. Their food and service were amazing! We had the Spicy Crunch Tuna Roll and the Jessica Roll with a salad and a beer. I hear the Creamy Toro Yaki Roll is their #1 Seller on the menu. Ask about it! The bill was around $61 without a tip! The sushi was fresh and the ginger salad was great. Great food, good portions, friendly staff, I like what they've done with the interior design now. We had the Jalapeño boat, Ebi katsu, and a couple of rolls. Wish the Jalapeños were spicier. As being from Hawaii and used to eating Sushi all the time, I came in with high expectations. But first things first, Customer Service was great! Always asked If I needed anything and food came out FAST! As for the food, the quality of the fish was great. From my experience with Otoro however, I expected a more oily and melt in mouth texture. The rolls were outstanding! The Udon, i expected more flavor but wasn't too bad. The only recommendation I would have for this restaurant is to spread the table for two's a bit better. It was honestly a bit awkward being so close to another table. All in all, I had a great first experience there and I'll go back again eventually. Great for groups or date night. Here's the deal: food is excellent, staff is overworked because they are undermanned. The poor service is on the manager.
