They have a great selection of american seafood, kind of diner style, but better than that. The service was really excellent, very helpful and quick. We also had the fish and chips which was also great. Nice, large pieces of fish, with excellent batter and deep fried just right.

Three Stars (or Two, depending on your preference) Came by…read morehere because I was craving some good fish and chips. First off, don't let the exterior fool you--they still have the old store signage up, so it doesn't actually say "Shark Boy Fish and Chips" on the front. On the plus side, the service was very lax and laid-back, which initially put us at ease. Unfortunately, the food definitely didn't stand out the way I remembered it, and the overall experience was quite disappointing. To start, they charge extra for a lot of the sauces--even for the vinegar. The only condiment that isn't an extra charge is ketchup. We decided to try the bang bang sauce, which I honestly do not recommend. For my side, I got the clam chowder, but it tasted very powdery. My friend got the lemonade, and it wasn't sweet or tart at all--just kind of watered down. I ordered the 2 fish and 4 shrimp combo (paired with the bang bang sauce, clam chowder, a soda, and a lemonade), and it came out to around $60. Given the subpar quality of the food and sides, and charging extra for basic condiments like vinegar, it was a pretty disappointing trip. I probably won't be rushing back.

This place had good reviews and very reasonable prices, so we decided to give it a try. We arrived right when they opened and were the first customers to order at the counter. Before coming, we had seen a Saturday special advertised online and posted on the restaurant window: fish, clams, chips, and a soda for $12.95. Unfortunately, when we got to the counter, the special had been covered up with a piece of paper and replaced with the Friday special. My daughter had her heart set on the clams, so we ended up ordering the clam meal and soda separately. That was a bit disappointing. We ordered the clam meal, a sampler with chips (1 fish, 2 prawns, 2 oysters, and 2 scallops), and a large clam chowder for the family to share. The hostess who took our order was friendly and brought the food to our table. Most things are self-serve, including salt, pepper packets, and ketchup from a pump station. The fried items came out first, and we were told the clam chowder would follow. Unfortunately, the chowder didn't arrive until we were almost finished with our meal. As for the food, the fish was the standout. It was cooked perfectly--crispy on the outside, flaky on the inside, and not greasy at all. The clams were also quite good. The rest of the sampler was just okay. The scallops were a little soggy, and while the chips were crunchy, they were pretty bland. We tried adding salt, but since they weren't fresh out of the fryer, it didn't really help much. The biggest disappointment was the clam chowder. It tasted more like mushy potatoes than clam chowder and lacked the flavor and texture we were expecting. Overall, the family wasn't particularly wowed by the food, but the pricing was reasonable. If I come back, I'd probably just order the fish. That was easily the best item we tried and worth returning for.

There was also parking right in front, with no line, which was convenient. I wanted something fried, but when I saw that they use canola oil, I decided to go with the salmon tacos instead. Salmon isn't exactly a local fish, but it's usually a safe bet, especially when it's fresh frozen. I got the salmon tacos, which came as two tacos on two tortillas. The salmon was topped with a little cabbage and tomato, melted cheese, and what seemed to be some onion and cilantro. They also included a small serving of salsa. Overall, they were decent, but not the best salmon tacos I've had. One thing that was a little annoying was that some of the salmon had the dark "bloodline" still attached. I usually scrape that off because I find that part of the fish more bitter and strongly flavored. That's especially awkward with tacos because you're trying to remove it from pieces of fish that are already in the taco. I've had salmon tacos elsewhere where that part had been trimmed off, so there was nothing to deal with. No bones, though. The tacos were a little pricey at just over $20 with tax, but you're in a tourist area and it's California, so that wasn't exactly surprising. They made for a decent meal, and sitting outside was pleasant.

Delicious food, great service, generous portions, storefront restaurant with limited ambience…read more Mix Stix Asian Fusion is a surprising find in Soledad. A fairly extensive sushi menu, a number of traditional / California Chinese dishes, really attentive service by Jocelyn this evening, and quite generous portions. We ordered a Bento box of sushi and sashimi, a seaweed salad, and a shrimp tempura roll. The sushi chef only had our order to work on, so we got our food very promptly. Quite generous portions for the sushi and sashimi items (quite large chunks of fish as sashimi, and five or six big pieces of fish on rice for the sushi). However, we're used to Bento boxes coming with some other elements in addition to the main named items; there were none, and although there were cardboard shipping cartons containing traditional Bento Box trays stacked next the the sushi chef's station, we were served the sushi and sashimi items on a platter. We were also served quite a large portion of seaweed salad, and five pieces of shrimp tempura with our order. No dessert available (no mochi, green tea ice cream), but we each got a fortune cookie. The restaurant looks like it does most of its business as carryout, so maybe decor is not so important, but there is none. The red chairs are the only decor present. We expressed our appreciation for the generous portions and the very attentive service with a generous tip. For the three items ordered, with tip, we paid $53.
