I'm always a fan of tequila Escape! Coming from Stamford we catch quite a few shows up in Ridgefield and further north....this is always a great stop. We love the brunch and we love the outdoor set up they did during Covid and kept running through the summers. The staff is always attentive, the drinks are delicious and the food is always good ...as well as the portions. I've had a couple five star experiences there, but I also have had a couple three stars so it averages out to four and look forward to going back again soon. read more

Went before a show at Ridgefield Playhouse. Wayyy overpriced for the quantity and quality of food and drinks. At the end of the meal, a bill was presented. I examined the bill and gave the server my credit card. The server who sat us, took our order ( and nothing more in terms of service) and presented the bill, added 25% to the final bill as a line item that said "Server", without any indication that this would be done on their website nor their menu. She didn't even bring us our drinks, the bartender did! The lighting was low so I barely was able to read the final bill. So, including the 25% "server surcharge" I paid $90.00 for 2 drinks, 2 mediocre tacos, and a salad with grilled chicken. Ridiculous! Stay away from this place! read more

Right away loved the vibes/decor inside with fun neon signs here and there. But it wasn't just a pretty place. The waiter thoroughly went over the menu - which is a rarity. There was 6 of us on a Saturday night. The place was packed, but we had reservations. Even still I think we were lucky to get a table because there was a line at the front of the restaurant of people waiting to be seated with reservations. The food is a 6.5/10. I had the mussels for app and rib eye steak for entree. The steak was in a peppercorn cream sauce? Strange for a Spanish restaurant. But it was tasty. The empanadas are good too, a little on the spicy side. The 2 stars are for the service and kitchen. Our entrees came out at the same time as our apps. This is a huge turn off. The lack of communication and the feeling they want to turn the table over ASAP makes this a place I won't be back to. This wasn't worth the cost of the dinner, eating on top of myself ruins the night. They also forgot one of the small plates for one of the people dining with us and his entree didn't come out until we were all finished with ours. read more

Plenty of nice outdoor seating under umbrellas. Inside decor is attractive, tables well spaced with plastic dividers. The food was very good from a diverse menu with plenty of vegan options. I dined here recently and had a drink that contained tequila. It was a disappointment. Considering Tequila is part of the business name. After I finished the drink, I did remember going there a few months earlier and had the same experience with their cocktails. Mediocre cocktails. And I paid $17 for this drink. If you don't get me the first time with a cocktail, to make me keep drinking, I am not ordering more and end up paying $60 or $70 just to be able to feel the effects of one cocktail. Place is decent, definitely not Mexican food. Everything here is organic so that's great! However it seems a little pricey for what it is. I got a margarita but it was alright nothing special for the price. The waitress was a little odd. She was rude to the busboy in front of the whole table a couple times, just kind of bossing him around. We had talked to him when we first got there because he was getting us water, he's pretty new to the country so it felt like the waitress was taking advantage of him. I like the versatility of the menu which besides classic Mexican cuisine also has modernen seafood dishes to offer. I opted for the Peruvian artichoke as starter and Mahi Mahi filet with lobster risotto as main. Both tasted delicious, although I would have liked more balance of textures on the main dish as both the fish and risotto were very buttery and could have made even better with a small crunch element. In addition to great food, they also serve a variety for margaritas catering for every taste from traditional to really spicy or smoky. I made a yelp account just because I couldn't believe what I was seeing at this place. I've been here quite a few times with my girlfriend because she likes it for some reason, but just a heads up? Don't specify what tequila you want. I'm definitely a tequila guy and my favorite is Casamigos. One time I ordered it and it was clearly not what I asked for. After bugging the server about my tequila not tasting right, she finally admitted that they were actually out of Casamigos and had given me something else instead. The tequila I wanted would have been $12, the tequila I got was apparently only $8. They were still going to charge me the higher price in the hopes I wouldn't notice. Ever since then, I've made a point to sit at or near the bar. I assumed maybe it was a new staff or a mistake. Nah. A different time I witnessed a female bartender or server pouring liquor from one bottle into another bottle. I did hear her say to someone else that it was illegal (so they're aware and still doing it?) and she didn't seem happy about it, so I'm assuming this is a regularly practice there?? What?????? The staff here regularly says "oh we don't have this? Just give them this, they won't know the difference!" This is done not just with tequila but with all their spirits and I can only assume with the wines and beers as well. So quick tip? That titos cosmo you got because you have celiacs and don't want to risk it with a different vodka? Might just be smirnoff. Wanted a Grey Goose on the rocks? Probably also smirnoff. On top of that, during this pandemic they don't do any social distancing at the bar, they'll seat people in the seat right next to you. They also continue serving people after "close," depending on if that person's a VIP I guess, even though restaurants in CT are required to close by 10. Fruit flies swarm near the bar and the staff can't tell the difference between pinot noir and pinot grigio. I worked in a couple restaurants back when I was in college, and knew some lazy and unethical workers in the industry, but I honestly can't tell if this is a staff issue or management. They get one star because admittedly the food is pretty good, but who knows what's going on inside the kitchen if their front of house is openly this much of a train wreck. They do a great job of pretending to be a high quality restaurant when it's more like a very pretty dive. But hey, as the staff said, you probably can't tell the difference anyway! read more

Don't let the name fool you-- Tequila Escape is not a standard Mexican restaurant. It really isn't a Mexican Restaurant at all. The food and drink menu is Latin fusion -- blending elements of various Latin countries. The drink menu has all the essential tequila-based drinks, but also includes a number of other Latin classics (Mojitos!!!) The culinary diversity matches the depth of the drink menu. Here are the strong plays: start with chips and guac. The chips are really think and slightly fried (I think) -- heavily salted, but in a good way. Guac is fresh and a bit chunky. Throw on some empanadas and Brussels sprouts. As for main dishes -- I had the Organic Chicken Paella and had them throw in a bit of chorizo -- which worked perfectly. Delicious. read more

And this happened to us once before so we were wondering if they'd do it to us again. Watch out if you order a drink straight up- will charge a secret $1.50-2 extra per drink even though base price is $22 for that very drink. Yup charging for no ice when alcohol is exactly the same. Steak frites $2-4 more if u don't want fries?! What?! Took 45 just to get a drink btw. And we literally had to wave a white flag napkin to get water refilled and app plates removed. Wow. Don't bother. The cacophony of tiled floors and expensive drinks for large groups is all this place offers. The menu is uninspired, the food is sub-par, service was terrible, and the most our waitress could offer was an apology. There are so many better options in the area, in terms of food, quality of service, and menu offerings. This was my wife's 4th visit and my first/last visit. The only chance of me seeing this restaurant again is if they're on Kitchen Nightmares. Here's a recap of our experience, if you're curious: We stopped-in for dinner at 6:15, moments before the crowd built and as were were being seating, the host immediately tried to upsell us on bottled sparkling water - "no thanks, tap is fine." We placed our order quickly, since we were hungry. We told the waitress to "bring out the dishes as they're ready - no need to hold them at the kitchen." While waiting, our waitress was non-existent, so we asked another if there's bread or chips that we can have and she responded "sure, we serve bread, chips, chips & salsa, chips & guac - anything you want to order." This was not the response were were expecting but 45 minutes after ordering, all the dishes arrived at the same time, along with our complementary chips. When our food arrived (45 minutes later), the cheese on the nachos congealed and hardened and the steak was cold; the Brussel sprouts were sweet and tasty albeit drenched in oil, steak skewers were overcooked and rubbery, it's possible the "truffle" fries had truffle powder sprinkled on top but they tasted like crinkle fries with Kraft Parmesan cheese, and the street corn was one ear, split into three pieces. The chicken paella was the only dish that arrived hot and the flavor was good but dripping in oil. The waitress asked how our meal was - we were honest and told her that our meal was a disappointment, nachos were terrible, and we asked for food to not be held. First, she said we asked for it to be held, then agreed we didn't and blamed the kitchen, and apologized. She came back once to ask if I wanted another drink (mine was half full) but it wasn't clear if she was asking if I wanted a (I assume free) refill or to order a second drink; then she didn't come back until we flagged her for the check. In the meantime, it was busy and the host pointed out our table to the next waiting group when they asked how much longer until they would be seated - moments later, the bus staff came through asking if they could take our plates. The plates were still half full and we were literally chewing our food. We told him he could take the nachos but then he asked if he could take my plate as well. (Seriously? I'm chewing, there's food on my plate, and I had to swallow my food to answer you.) We were very polite and said "not yet" but I was done at this point. The check was the fastest thing to arrive but we're not done yet. The table next to us was so close, when a woman was being seated (two tables away), she bumped our table (unnecessarily trying to slip between the empty table between us and my table) and her butt almost knocked our drinks over. We wrapped the remaining paella and other dishes - they gave us the standard aluminum containers and plastic lids but no bag. Really? We had to ask for the bag to carry-out our leftovers. The only quality thing about our experience was my honest review and hopefully this helps you spend $100 - $150 for four people at a different restaurant. read more
