My favorite sushi spot in the area! Always has fresh fish, generous portions, and I like to eat in or take out. Order is always promptly made. They have such attention to detail when it comes to the take out. The chopsticks are not the cheapo ones, they give you ramekins for the soy sauce, beautiful display of food and thoughtfully packed. The inside is cute.

I would say this is a 3.5, but that's not an option. I got the lunch special: spicy tuna, spicy salmon, salmon rolls a a miso soup. I got takeout and it was made by the time stated. It was nice they placed a cardboard piece between the hot soup and sushi. Some of the sushi pieces were inconsistent, with not a lot of filling while others were appropriately full, and smashed. Miso soup was hot and did have a smooth flavor. The texture of the spicy tuna and salmon were a bit off kind of mushy, so curious as to the quality of the fish. The rice had a nice texture, it wasn't hard and not mushy.

This is a solid sushi place. The quality of the fish is nice and the size of the actual sushi trend on the bigger side. If you are looking for a casual and quick dinner near beacon theater this is a good option.

Had been craving sushi like crazy, and Tenzan was the answer to my prayers. The spicy salmon roll was perhaps the best I've ever had. It was silky and buttery and oh-so delicious. I couldn't get enough!! The beef yaki was also super yummy. Very flavorful and full of meat. The noodles were thick and chewy. The pork katsu was also so good. The breading on the outside was so crispy! I would say that the meat itself was a tad bit dry, but I feel like that could be a one-off thing. It was also such a generous portion -- I couldn't be too bothered. Overall a really solid spot for Japanese!

If you're looking for fresh sushi, look no further than Tenzan. Sure, there are less expensive places but I like Tenzan. It's consistently good. Aside from the typical sushi offerings like spicy tuna, California roll, and salmon roll, Tenzan has some more unique options like the healthy roll and red lady. This time I ordered the healthy roll, peanut avocado roll, and spicy tuna roll. Healthy roll- $13.50- I found this roll to be on the expensive side but I love the flavors! It has mango on the outside, and apple, avocado and seaweed salad on the inside. Salty, sweet, creamy and crunchy. Peanut avocado roll- $6.25- instead of regular plain or salted peanuts, Tenzan uses honey roasted ones here. I liked this roll but it might not be your thing. Spicy tuna roll- $7.50- this roll just had spicy tuna in it, no cucumber or avocado. It wasn't very spicy but it was good nonetheless. Tenzan is consistently good and has been for many years.

Ordered a few things to share and was happy overall with what we chose. Edamame - 5/5 Green Salad - 5/5 Yellowtail Sushi - 3/5 kind of a strange taste, maybe a little old? Dallas Roll - 3/5 strange texture of the tuna Mango Shrimp Roll - 4/5 Tempura Shrimp Roll - 4/5 Service - 5/5 Overall was happy, but it wasn't the best sushi I've had. Pricing seemed decent. Would come back but would try some different rolls.

Where do I begin? Mom and I were craving some agedashi tofu and we had walked by this place, saw people eating and were intrigued to try it. I do NOT RECOMMEND this place at all. The hostess who took my order INSISTED they were sold out of Age Tofu. So i ordered the more expensive tempura app. She charged and gave both neither was very edible after the short 5 block Walk home. The tempura tasted like old oil. Cold and greasy, we barely managed a few nibbles before having to trash most of the food we received. Also ordered veggie udon $13 It wasn't soup....just noodles. Very bizarre Shumai tasted *really* fishy. Ate 1 but didn't want to get sick just in case. $43, really bizarre serviand a bag of wasted food later, I wouldn't come back

The lunch portions here are really generous! I ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box, and it came with chicken, veggies, dumplings, spring rolls, soup, salad, sushi roll, and rice! My favorites were the spring rolls and the california roll. The chicken teriyaki was nice and came on a bed of onions. The staff were very friendly and welcoming.

Katsu-Hama is about two doors to the Left of Phil's, and has minimal, very discreet signage. I got some tonkatsu...I forget the exact type, but it was essentially the most fatty of the tonkatsu offered. It came with cabbage (with a sesame ginger type dressing), daikon radish (with some type of sauce on top), and the standard sauce for the tonkatsu, along with some crushed sesame seed and hot mustard. I'd have to say...the tonkatsu was quite good....not quite as sublime as my favorite tonkatsu place in Tokyo...but still, very, very good. The dish also came with a bowl of miso soup (good, and not overly salty) and a bowl of white rice, which I considered the most disappointing part of the meal. The rice seemed a bit dried out...not moist.... All in all, an excellent meal. I'd definitely come back.

The food was ok, felt comparable to something you would order at a food court, so at the price point, it's not that worth it. The main was so unremarkable that the best thing was the miso soup. In terms of flavor, it's very much like "that's it??", pretty basic but wouldn't standout as good.

(There's regular tables on the right hand side and a bar in the back.) The food and drink menu is available through QR codes at the table. We selected 6 dishes and 3 desserts to share. The Ankimo came with three pieces of monkfish liver and scallions in a ponzu wasabi sauce. It was a nice start to the meal, with its creamy texture and rich flavor. The Age Tofu came with three cubes of fried tofu that had a slightly chewy exterior and a pillowy soft interior. The bonito flakes and dashi broth gave it a punch of flavor. It was my first time ever having Mentaiko Pasta, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was creamy and the spiciness of the cod roe sauce was subtle--it kind of creeps up on you after a few bites and gives the dish a little kick. I felt like the cod roe flavor shone through, and the bacon added another dimension to it. The Hotate Carpaccio came with 6 slices of Hokkaido scallops, ikura, and a mustard soy dressing. It was a delicate dish that I enjoyed, especially after the heavier Mentaiko. The Cold Soba Green Tea was my favorite dish. It was so refreshing. All the ingredients went very well together--the green tea noodles had a good bite, the salmon sashimi was very fresh, the ikura added a nice brininess when you pop them, and the dashi broth provided a nice backdrop to the dish. The sashimi in the Kaisen Don was fresh, and came with salmon, tuna, yellowtail, octopus, and ikura. The dessert menu is found at the end of the drinks menu. We got one of each dessert: the sweet potato balls with hojicha ice cream, cheesecake with yuzu sorbet, and black sesame ice cream with red beans. The sweet potato balls were SOOO GOOD--crispy exterior and chewy interior, with just the right touch of sweetness. The hojicha ice cream was so good. We regret not having ordered an extra set of the sweet potato balls. The cheesecake was a little dry, but had these little rice crispies on top that gave a nice textural change. The yuzu sorbet was a good palate cleanser. The black sesame ice cream was rich and creamy, and the red bean sauce added an extra layer of sweetness. Sozai is a great place to share a few dishes. I definitely want to come back to check out the lunch specials.

We tried Suntory draft beer since that was the only draft they had, which was odd since most Japanese places carry Asahi/Sapporo, definitely not as light as the other two beers I'm used to. As you step into the restaurant, you immediately feel a sense of formality and strictness. It's also very quiet in the restaurant, and friendly to solo diners, adding on more to the Japan-esque feel. The food is high quality here, but the portions are small, and it is pricey. I would budget to spend around $100 a person here after tip and tax, if you ignore the prices on the menu and try a variety of things. The tuna from the bone is the most famous dish here, but I was not able to get it as they sell out very fast. But I tried the sashimi and it was high quality -- just that it was not enough food for me. But that makes it more in line with portions back in Japan. They have an extensive sake list and they also have the casual cocktail options like lemon drops you would find in Tokyo. The atmosphere really transports you straight into Japan if that is something you are looking for. Expect to pay a premium for small-ish portions, but at the same time very well-made and authentic food.
