Upon walking in, the vibes are very cozy and intimate, not a lot of seating though. My waiter, Gabriel, was extremely friendly, welcoming, and had very good knowledge of the menu which I appreciate a lot. Now back to the omelette-- oh my god. Best omelette in my life I think. Chilaquiles are my favorite breakfast food and these did not disappoint! I got the chilaquiles with green sauce and tomato sauce and let me tell you, that tomato sauce was INSANE. The green sauce has a significant tang to it so the two really balanced each other out. Next time I'll definitely add a protein as well, but this bowl of chilaquiles was delicious! I also had a Jamaica lemonade which was great, it had a nice kick/tang to it. They make everything in house - the chips, their meats, everything. They have a solid, limited menu, and I can't wait to try other items. It's a small restaurant but they make you feel like you're home. The gentlemen at Tenampal are so welcoming, they give so much attention to each customer, they really take care of you. **May 2026: Sunday Afternoon Visit** My friend and I were looking for an authentic hole-in-the-wall mom-and-pop spot near the East Los Angeles Library, and this restaurant came up. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive, and since it was only about a 10-minute drive, it felt like the perfect choice. Parking can be a bit challenging, but we got lucky and found a spot on a nearby residential street. When we got there, it was a full house, so we were seated in the back since that's what was available. The restaurant itself is small, with seating for about five or six parties, and it proudly reflects its immigrant roots along with a strong emphasis on representation and inclusion. The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive. One thing to note: the lighting inside is quite dim--we actually had to use our phone flashlight to read the menu. Not ideal, but we were on a time crunch and just happy to be seated. We ordered the Huarache Azul ($17) with a sunny-side-up egg (+$2) and the chilaquiles (+$1 for split sauce), and both dishes were generously portioned and beautifully presented. The chile verde was a little on the sour side, something im not used to tasting when having verde, if it was less sour I think this place would be five stars forsuree!! This was absolutely the type of place I was expecting; genuine, simple, unpretentious, and with food that was above what I expected- and not in terms of flavor only, but rather how they all came together. We ordered the nopales salad, and it was so great with unexpected components prepped in a way so simple yet so ingenious. I could go on and on, but the one dish that I didn't ordered but only tried was the tinga omelette. I was expecting a semi soggy texture inside the egg, but what I got was just perfect in terms of sauce content. Layered flavors of tinga inside a cloud-fluffy egg, and to wrap it up, a thin layer of requesón that just hit me like a surprise hook to the jaw. And the chilaquiles!! Yall, these were the best chilaquiles I think we've ever had since coming to the area. We were welcomed very warmly by Anthony, who recommended us the chilaquiles, tacos dorados, omelette tinga de pollo, and a new coffee-horchata-esque drink which they'll call the choco olla! Upon tasting the food it is apparent that every menu item we had was prepared with immense attention and care; everything was made fresh, the cook on the chicken and omelette was juicy and tender, and the chilaquiles and tacos had the perfect amount of crisp, all while the accompanying sides/garnishes, chile de arbol sauce, and fermented hot sauce provided balancing textures and flavors that left me eating more.
