    Prawn tempura udon (22)
    Bosco H.

I actually quite like this place. The entirety of Chefs Hall can get pretty busy so this place wasn't an exception on a workday lunch. Ordered the Prawn Tempura Udon (22). There was a lot of tempura, along with the zucchini, eggplant and green bean offerings as well. A good amount of udon, which tasted really good, nice noodle texture, and a very clean but flavorful broth. Not much else to say, I really like it even though the price is on the high side and it's a food hall offering rather than a sit down. Good quality stuff and I'd definitely come back.

This is a nice edition to Chef's Hall! There was no line on a Thursday around 5pm, and food was quickly prepared. I had the Gyu Don - the beef and rice and miso soup were delicious and hot. The only thing that was off was that the egg on top was cold! It would been nice if the egg was hot and runny.

    Keisuke special.

Unfortunately, one of those restaurants where the food looks better than it tastes. Tempura Keisuke is a little Japanese restaurant focused on providing freshly fried tempura, tucked in the corner of Chef's Hall. Customers get the choice of various tempura atop a bed of deliciously fragrant Japanese rice, or alongside a bowl of hot udon. My girlfriend and I were drawn by the beautifully arranged tempura bowls, perfectly fried without excess oil. However, we were slightly disappointed with the taste and texture. We ordered the Keisuke Special and the Prawn Tempura Udon. Each came with an assortment of vegetable tempura (i.e. sweet potato, eggplant, zucchini, lotus root) and shrimp and scallop tempura. While the tempura bits were crispy, the inner seafood felt mushy and didn't have a fresh bite to it. It tasted underwhelming compared to the presentation. When we ordered, we were told the Keisuke Special comes with either original or spicy sauce drizzled over top - we chose the latter, but felt the sauce didn't do enough to cut the richness of the fried items. Overall, the dish needs a little bit of acidity to not overwhelm the taste buds. The udon was slightly overcooked for our liking, but nevertheless a solid option to replace the dense Japanese rice. While I'm glad Tempura Keisuke builds on the growing Japanese cuisine in Toronto outside the realm of sushi, I don't think it's a place I will frequent often.

Always looking for the next best Japanese restaurant and this one came up! Collab between Ramen Isshin and Ryu's noodle bar! Located inside the Chef's Assembly food hall. The shrimp were mostly batter but the scallop was amazing! A nice variety of vegetables topped off the bowl of rice. The portion was quite satisfying for lunch. I could've used more sauce. The wait was about 20 minutes after ordering.

Went here on a Friday evening around 4-5pm. I ordered the keisuke don and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. It cost $23 and came with a miso soup. It took about 15 minutes to get out. You go up to the counter, order and then just wait. They give it to you on a tray and you sit down and eat, cafeteria style. It's in Chef's Hall, it's a bit dark in there. All the tempura was extremely crispy. I was surprised out how good it was. The scallop tastes very good. The shrimp was great and I loved the crispy seaweed. The rice was good as well and the miso soup was nice.

Can't believe I just discovered this "food court", inside Chefs hall. Want to have ten-don for a long time. They have reasonable price meal perfect for workday lunch. Got a Keisuke don with pieces of shrimp, one scallop, fresh yasai - veges and I took the non spicy sauce. Would love some extra sauce for dipping but overall nicely fried, and so goodddd! So good that my nose is growing acnes lol. Should add a tempura egg next time.

There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

The ambience of the restaurant is chill, plenty of seating. It can get loud when it's full, but that's the vibe. I was stuck between the sweet shrimp bowl and the uni bowl.... We got a bunch of dishes to share and overall liked most things but some things (like the oyster) unfortunately didn't hit as well. Wagyu - thin slices but very tender and very flavorful with the cheese - surprised by how well the flavor combo worked out. Tofu - easily one of my fave agedashi tofu. Huge tofu slices with very chewy outer texture, a bit gelatinous . Really went well with the sauce and toppings Carbonara - nice chewy texture to the udon, not too soft and not too firm. The sauce was nice and creamy. Not as truffley as I thought it would be, wish it was a little more but it was still pretty good Oyster - least favorite of all the dishes we got today. It was a bit sour and the cheese felt like it didn't really help the flavor profile of the oysters. It was super oily from the cheese, felt like it was drowning in cheese/oil flavor Cod - it looks good but something is lacking, maybe in taste? Feel like maybe the marinade did not penetrate enough. The texture is still nice and soft , with a crisp skin . Also was a bit too oily for our liking, compared to other miso cod we have had. It was also a relatively smaller piece of cod. Overall, the appetizers were really good! The oyster and cod were a bit disappointing. Would come back for the carbonara and the other appetizers mentioned though!
