It doesn't look much from the outside but I promise the food is so amazing. The chicken is always crispy, flavourful, and the curry is so yum! This meal hits the spot on a cold or rainy day and the setup for the space is cozy and calm. The service is also very quick and friendly, I'd definitely recommend this spot for a casual hangout even with a small group

THE FOOD AND SERVICE HERE IS AMAZING!!!!!!! There is very little. I can say about this restaurant. The prices are more than reasonable. The staff is incredibly kind and willing to do their job. The food is absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this place for a solo date or even with friends. This is not the kind of restaurant where you walk there. I highly recommend you run there.

Got Pork loin katsu with cheese and curry sauce. Served with rice, salad, miso soup. Katsu was fine. Curry sauce was good. Food overall was solid but unremarkable Service was good.

We went just before the dinner rush and were seated right away. The server gave us the menu, got our drink orders situated. She came back and we ordered right away. My nephew and I got the original Tonkatsu set and my sister got the kasutdon. Everything was delicious! The crispy texture on the original was soo good! Did you know they make the panko mix every day to get that crispy, crunchy texture and goodness? If only, we lived closer. The inside was quaint and cozy with a nice bathroom. Hopefully when we visit Canada again, we can make this stop and enjoy the yummy food. *tip* parking is a nightmare...look for a big green P, where parking lot is located, you can self park for a fee, and walk to the restaurant. :)

We were catching a documentary at the Hot Doc theatre two doors down and needed some dinner first. This place has the crispiest and most delicious Katsu! We ordered both the Katsu and the donburi, and both were great! The Katsu comes with a delicious sauce, miso soup, serving of rice and shredded cabbage salad. Everyone was very satisfied!

We got the Pork Tenderloin Katsu and Pork Loin with Cheese Katsu sets, with Crisp Shrimp for the appetizer. The katsu and shrimp were all very crispy and crunchy, and a bit on the oily side (which could be both good and bad). The Pork Tenderloin Katsu was especially tender. The rice however was kind of hard so we weren't able to finish it. I found myself drinking lots of water during and after the meal as the katsu was very salty and oily which gave me a stomach ache, bloatedness, and lethargy which lasted for a few hours. Nonetheless, it was worth it for the taste and I could see myself coming back here for the crispy oily goodness.

Since COVID19 happened, I've been trying new restaurants and have been in a fried food phase. One random day, I was craving Tonkatsu and did some Yelping to find great reviews for this spot. I debated on trying other spots because some are more famous than this, but I adored this meal. Perhaps because this was a delivery order, the takeout container gave me a mom and pop-vibe type of meal, and I was all for it. I ordered the Pork Tenderloin Katsu with curry and enjoyed every single bite. I really wanted to spread this into two meals so I used all my willpower to save some of the curry sauce for another day. The katsu was crispy, not dry, and not too thin of a piece of meat. I would 100% come here again and order the same meal (or two orders of it).

Just found this place for lunch by accident and it was a great find. As it turns out I see from their menu that they have 3 locations in Toronto, but this is the Bloor St location I am referring to. Ordered Chicken Katsu and my friend ordered the standard Pork Katsu, and they were both excellent. Great food at a great price.

Mouth watering food. I have no idea how to describe how delicious this meal was. It was just a delightful experience. The servers were super nice and quick with everything, including the food. Food quality was superb. I'd highly recommend this place if you're craving tonkatsu

I will never underestimate the simplicity of katsu. After my experience at Mr. Tonkatsu, I will never turn my eye away from a perfectly cooked pork katsu. I came to Mr. Tonkatsu a few weeks looking for a nice quick meal before my hockey game. It was relatively quiet for a Wednesday evening (probably due to the snow) and it was nice to be seated and served immediately. There were plenty of options on the menu from the traditional katsu setup, donburi, curry, many delicious options to select. I decided to go with the Pork Katsu with Curry on Rice. My goodness was the one of the best hearty dishes I had in a long time. The pork was fried to a great crisp, while maintaining nice moisture in the meat. The curry was full of flavour, with a nice combination of aroma and spiciness to compliment the rice. The shredded cabbage on the side serve as a nice palate cleanser and cool down if you have a low tolerance on spice. Overall, Mr. Tonkatsu has lived up to its billing for a great place for nice date night, pre or post game meal, or even just an awesome takeout option if you don't feel like cooking! I will be back soon to try their other options on the menu!

We get to grind sesame while we wait! This is meant to mix with the tonkatsu sauce.

It was my first time here but I love meat and fried stuff so I expected to like this place. I love that they came with unlimited salad and unlimited rice AND unlimited miso soup. Their presentation was cute. The tonkatsu was on a little steel tray on top of the big tray. Service was fast and the staff were courteous. What stopped me from giving it a 5 was the rice. I don't consider myself a huge rice snob but I do have expectations. It should be soft, warm with a ribbon of steam coming from it, and it should have that rice aroma. The only criterion this rice got was the ribbon of steam. Never have I ever bitten into such hard rice. I had much better rice from a Chinese food court meal that's been sitting out for a day. The waitress offered to exchange after we complained but to no avail. That rice still tore through my intestines. Overall, cute little place and it's neat. It's kryptonite was the rice.

Overall 4/5 Visited on a Wednesday evening and it wasn't too busy - there was a lot of takeout pickups at this location. We were seated promptly and given water/menus. Menu had a good selection of appetizers, donburi, katsu, and curry katsu. I ordered the pork loin curry katsu with cheese and wait time wasn't long. You could see them freshly frying up katsus for each customer and prepping your plate before they bring it to you. We were given miso soups while we waited for you food, pretty standard miso with seaweed in it. Didn't have any tofu pieces though. The katsu was soooo cheesy - you get maximum cheese pull when you take the pieces apart. I loved wrapping the cheese around the piece of katsu and dipping it in the curry. There's a side of cabbage salad which is a nice tough and the dressing they have on the table pairs really well with it - a little salty and vinegary. I also appreciated the pieces of pickled daikon radish they have for your to cleanse your palette from the fried food. Definitely recommend you trying if you're looking to have some great katsu downtown!

There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

We got a bunch of dishes to share and overall liked most things but some things (like the oyster) unfortunately didn't hit as well. Wagyu - thin slices but very tender and very flavorful with the cheese - surprised by how well the flavor combo worked out. Tofu - easily one of my fave agedashi tofu. Huge tofu slices with very chewy outer texture, a bit gelatinous . Really went well with the sauce and toppings Carbonara - nice chewy texture to the udon, not too soft and not too firm. The sauce was nice and creamy. Not as truffley as I thought it would be, wish it was a little more but it was still pretty good Oyster - least favorite of all the dishes we got today. It was a bit sour and the cheese felt like it didn't really help the flavor profile of the oysters. It was super oily from the cheese, felt like it was drowning in cheese/oil flavor Cod - it looks good but something is lacking, maybe in taste? Feel like maybe the marinade did not penetrate enough. The texture is still nice and soft , with a crisp skin . Also was a bit too oily for our liking, compared to other miso cod we have had. It was also a relatively smaller piece of cod. Overall, the appetizers were really good! The oyster and cod were a bit disappointing. Would come back for the carbonara and the other appetizers mentioned though!
