To start, they sold us on their "drink of the week" and it was some form of an orange/mango mixed concoction- it was divine. I cannot recall the exact names of what we had but, it was all INCREDIBLE, especially the roasted cauliflower! Let me just start saying that Temporal is open from Monday through Friday, for lunch and dinner and Saturday and Sunday for breakfast and brunch. The food, the restaurant, the service and the drinks are very good. On a recent visit to Mexico City, we stopped at Temporal for dinner and drinks. They use fresh ingredients at its peek and it shows. I highly recommend the crab cake sopes with green sauce, the grilled picana and the mushroom risotto. Everything was very flavorful, perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, at the right temperature and the portions were not too big not too small just right. They have a great selection of cocktails. I thoroughly enjoyed the guanabana martini and my friend loved her pineapple margarita. Our drinks were both smooth and fruity, prepared with fresh, seasonal fruit. They have live music some nights. The jazz band performing that Thursday night played a wide selection of latin music and other well known international tunes. The selection was nice and the volume very comfortable to still enjoy the conversation. The service was efficient and friendly, the staff was ready to answer any questions, make recommendations or just to chat. The ambiance is casual, the decor is airy and modern. Temporal is located at a busy intersection in the beautiful Hipodromo Condesa neighborhood, but it feels tucked away from the bustle and hustle of the city. Some serving sizes are small but honestly that's to be expected in places like this. The gnocchi dish, tuna tostados, and roasted cauliflower were good. All the drinks we had were nice and strong. It was relatively empty that night. The atmosphere was pleasant. The dinning area is spread throughout a couple areas and the configurations of the space makes for interesting observation. The staff was generally good to us and explained the dishes we had questions about but they would leave for a decent amount of time even though there were very few guests in the restaurant leaving us to wait on several occasions for our needs. In the end when we paid, we weren't brought back change to decide how much to tip them, they just kind of kept it. Which I thought was strange because of how much it was, when I did the math later it came out to 26% tip which seems like kind of a bold assumption. I think they merited closer 12%. read more

Came here based on the other reviews but it did not live up to the high marks. The roasted cauliflower was served undercooked and barely warm. When I told the waiter he was utterly confused and then the owner/manager came out. Then they took it back and roasted and repackaged the dish and reserved it. It was still not piping hot, however, I was hungry and it was satisfactory. The servers seemed for focused on clearing empty plates/glasses rather than on bringing out drinks/dishes in a timely fashion. There are sooo many wonderful places in Mexico City. We had dinner for our fist night in town at Temporal Restaurante. Because we had 7:30 reservations, which is pretty early here, the restaurant was empty on our arrival but it filled up as we ate. We were seated immediately and enjoyed our corner booth next to floor to ceiling glass that felt like being in the trees. The decor was modern with clean lines and medium woods and slate woods. They take advantage of having multiple floors and playing with different kinds of lighting. They had a full bar and an interesting menu. We shared: DM had the Bittersot Mezcal (120 pesos or $6) which was a blend of Mezcal, Campari, mandarin, passion fruit and ginger juice. It was fruity but smokey - very good. DF had the Martini de Coco (120 pesos or $6) which was gin with coconut "juice" (I think water) and rosemary. It was sweet and herbal - lethal but dangerous. She also had a a glass of the Argentinian Sauv Blanc (95 pesos or $4.75), which was unusual for the varietal as it tasted more like an Albarino. I had the Zicatela (130 pesos or $6.50) which was a blend of mezcal, passion fruit, lemon juice, basil and something called "quina." It was savory and refreshing - mezcal and citrus are a great combination. For starters, we had the roasted cauliflower (130 pesos or $6.50) which was good but didn't quite live up to the hype. It was half a roasted cauliflower on anchovy cream with toasted breadcrumbs. Simple and well executed but not "to die for" as I had read. On the other hand, the Crab Sopes (210 pesos or $10.50 for 3) were AWESOME. Three little silver dollar masa cakes were topped with little crab cakes, goat cheese, crema, and a tomatillo salsa. I would think that sweet crab and tangy goat cheese would work so well together, because I tend to avoid cheese and seafood, but it was great. For entrees, we each ordered our perfect dish. We tried to share three ways, and I ate a third of DM's but I did not like DF's. We had: Me: Villajaiba (260 pesos or $13) - fish that was likened to red snapper was flakey and moist with crisp skin and resting on a bed of fava bean puree with coriander, onions, carrots, cauliflower and green beans finished with some great pumpkin seed oil. Fantastic sweet fish with a verdant puree and some perfectly cooked veg. I loved this dish. DF: Braised Lamb Shoulder in Curry Sauce over Rice with Greens (290 pesos or $14.50) - one bite and it was gamey. I was out. She said that it was the most tender lamb that she had ever had and DM, bless her heart, ate it. But, I could not stomach it. So, I can't tell you much. I have never been very sensitive about lamb, so I am not too sure what happened. DM: Duck Duo (310 pesos or $15.50) - grilled duo and shredded duck confit were resting on sliced and cooked zucchini in a pool of dark black mole topped with minced capers and other yummy stuff. This was delish. I preferred the grilled duck to the confit duck as it was medium rare and was uber tender whereas the confit was drying out. Regardless, the dish was fantastic, and the mole was deeply flavored. The sweet zucchini added a nice freshness to a heavy. The service was fantastic. No one spoke English but I knew enough Spanish and hand signs to get through the meal. With tip for three people, we had cocktails and tons of food for less than $100 USD. I am definitely a fan and would recommend it to people in the area. I don't think that I would trek from 10 km away to get here, but it was definitely worth a 1 km walk. read more

Truly an epic experience from start to finish. The food, cocktails, and service were exemplary. We got the cauliflower, octopus tacos, and tetela for appetizers. The flavors were incredibly complex and each composed bite was immensely satisfying, especially the anchovy crema, crunchy bread bits, and perfectly roasted cruciferous bites. The braised rabbit dish came as a recommendation from the illustrious chef, and was a revelation for me. Perfectly tender, flavorful, and captured the potential of the rather underrated bunny. I have not ordered rabbit off a menu in over a decade, and I'm so glad we tried this. The staff at Temporal are also such a delight, anticipatory without being intrusive and going out of there way to find clever solutions to our requests. They did not hesitate in trying to provide the best possible evening. Diego and Zulu were also incredible and we were so lucky to meet them. After a long day without real meals we went out looking for a nice dinner. It had to be walking distance from where we were staying in , open after midnight on a weekday, and to have fish and vegetarian options. Temporal far exceeded those expectations! It really has the feeling of being several restaurants in one. There's seating outside, and a sports bar like feel on the ground floor (also where the restrooms are located). There's a cozy mezzanine floor, and then on top there's a fancier room with more space and bigger tables, and a nice view through the foliage. Service is excellent, menus available in Spanish and English. Lots of great cocktails and other drink options. The menu is worth a read, the owner outlines his philosophy of temporal referring both to slow cooking and seasonal rotation. We had the winter menu, which will obviously not be current much longer! The tomato soup was delicious. Often that's basically a throwaway for vegetarians, just sauce in a bowl. But here they presented a beautiful bowl with goat cheese, and poured a delicious soup on top. The flavors were perfect together. There were a few more vegetarian dishes, including a salad and a special of the day, vegetables and quinoa. Don't forget to leave room for dessert! read more

I wish the sides had been a little more plentiful, especially the delicious potatoes. My friend had braised short ribs, which were also good. We started by splitting the beet salad which was just ok. It needed tang, either from a sharper citrus dressing or goat cheese instead of the very mild queso fresco. My biggest disappointment with this place was that we had a reservation and there was some confusion about our seating when we arrived. The restaurant was only 30% full when we arrived, with the top floor of booths still open. The host was seating us upstairs, we had actually walked up the stairs already when another man, (possibly another host or owner) told him to seat us on the middle floor instead (not the bar area). I thought maybe it would have been reserved or something, but later a family with a baby in a stroller walked in and opted to sit at the top floor, carrying their stroller up the stairs and while they suggested they sit on our level, they opted to go upstairs (with limited space) with the stroller. Despite that, our waiter and original host was great. Drinks: Cucumber martini Mai tai Entrees: Roasted cauliflower Pork shoulder slow braised Imported filet Cauliflower was warm but could have been warmer especially since it was presumably roasted immediately prior to serving, but it could have used a better sauce than what seemed like a mayo design on the plate so that the seasoning wasn't so dry. The pork shoulder was not as tender as I'd expect. Hoped for it to be fork tender. It was on a (too small) bed of rice that had a big cluster that was too hard. The drinks tasted good and the mai tai was extremely strong. I wouldn't return here and I wouldn't suggest for any friends traveling here to come either. With all of the great food options and restaurants we went to in Mexico City, I was disappointed that a meal was wasted here. :( read more

Wow. This place makes my other 5-Star reviews seem wrong. On a mother/daughter trip to Mexico City, we dined here for dinner since it was nearby to our hotel, and I'm so glad we did. We started with cocktails, both fresh and delicious, especially the sangria. Then we got an appetizer, a tuna tar tar with grasshoppers! We wanted to try something a little out of the ordinary and it delicious! For mains, I went with a grilled steak on a tomato and leek tart, and my mom got duck confit. She said it was "the best meal she ever had." My dish was also so good, I didn't want it to end. The wine selection was also excellent. If the food didn't already impress us, the service was OUTstanding! I speak very little (bad) Spanish and the servers were accommodating and helped make sure we had everything we needed. Overall, I would not recommend nor return - the quality of food and experience should be much higher at this price point in Mexico City. (Contramar for instance, similar price point, and a million times better in every aspect.) We only came here because it was a Sunday night, many (sit-down) restaurants in Mexico City were closed and Temporal was nearby, had nice ambiance, and had glowing Yelp reviews. Service started slow and inattentive. First offered beverages as soon as we sat down, and we just asked for water. 2 water bottles did not come until right before first dish was ready. Nobody came back to take our order until numerous attempts of trying to flag down a waiter - this probably took about 20 minutes. Manager was on the floor, and didn't seem to notice that we were sitting there with menus down, and looking around, seeking some attention. Food: (complimentary) chimichurri and bread was delicious saffron risotto - was under-cooked, leaving us no desire to finish the plate confit duck risotto - risotto under-cooked again, meanwhile the duck was VERY overcooked braised rabbit - tasty, but way too salty grilled octopus - best dish of the night I wouldn't come here for the food, but decor/ambiance is definitely cute. read more
