In my youth, we would NEVER stop at these rest areas; it was always Starbucks or fast food. These rest areas are much easier to go in and out! I save $$$ and I don't end up over-caffeinating or eating excessive amounts of fast food. Quality/Quantity - I guess I am so used to only stopping once from NV or the Bay Area to LA that I don't really notice all these other rest areas. Plenty of restrooms. Atmosphere - Plenty of parking. Cut and pasted from website - Tejon Pass Rest Area Facility Summary Restrooms: YES Water: YES Picnic Tables: YES Litter: YES Phone: YES Handicap Access:: YES RV Dump Station:: YES Food Vending:: YES Pet Area:: YES Cigarette Ash Dump:: NO Service - Self service. Price - Free, well our tax $$ at work. Owner Comment - Thank you for maintaining these rest areas.

I stop here every time I drive back to LA. It's a large rest area and there's quite a bit of activity. That being said, they do a nice job keeping it clean. It a little nicer than the rest area on the northbound side. This rest area even has some charging stations for electric cars. I've never seen that at a rest area. Pretty cool! You could have a picnic here. It's usually breezy or windy here though, but for a quick meal, it's probably OK. There's a large pet area. Leash required. The entrance to the rest area comes up fast without much warning so be on the lookout for it and be careful for trucks going super slowly as they pull off the freeway to the entrance. They have plenty of vending machines for snacks and soft drinks. Parking is easy and plentiful. The spaces are wide and deep. I like that the roadway in the parking lot is wide which makes for safer backing out. FYI. I have T-Mobile and I had zero cell reception there.

Nice rest area with plenty of parking. Consists of bench areas, vending machines, restrooms, and trash cans. Good for a stop. Has security camera. Plenty of commercial trucks parked. Great place to stay if you have to stay overnight. Dog walk im mg areas. The restrooms have skylights, motion sensitive flushing that works. The mirrors and such are tagged with carvings but the facets and air dryers work. I think the restroom is actually heated. Plenty of light. I didn't notice any bbq grills. Minor history information. Great stop for a restroom break.

The Fort Tejon rest area is a nice stop about 37 miles south of Bakersfield. Plenty of parking. Not trashed out like some I've seen... Reasonably clean restrooms with plenty of soap. Good for families, big rigs, RVs, trailers, etc. If we had our dogs, this is a great place to let them stretch out for a bit. Some information boards to glance at... Vending machines are also available. California Highway Patrol has quite a presence in this area. Review #398 Yelp challenge 79/100

    Fort Tejon Rest Area

This is a great scenic, historic, trip-to-the-past Rest Stop in a state that suffers from a dearth of convenient road side rest areas. You pull off and kind of drive to the left, then park in a shaded lot. You get to walk over a bridge and see the buildings from a historic fort that existed in this area. Shady trees in the summer, and snow in winter, since the elevation is about 4000 feet up the Grapevine. Clean restrooms, but only one for men and one for women open on a November trip.

Pet area to give your pups a chance to stretch their legs, too! Water for filling pet bowls is available

Whether you're just looking for a convenient rest room stop or a chance to stretch your legs in the middle of a Grapevine crossing, the Fort Tejon Rest Area fits the bill. There is plenty of parking and it's close to the restrooms which were reasonably clean and stocked with plenty of toilet paper and seat covers. Two skylights in the ceiling provide natural light during the day. There are hand dryers instead of paper towels. The air they produced was warm, an important bonus on cold windy days like the one on which I stopped. There are a number of picnic tables scattered about the rest area, both shaded and unshaded if you're looking to make this a longer stop. There are benches near the restrooms while you're waiting for your road trip buddies to finish. There are vending machines if you need some road munchies. If your road trip buddies happen to have four feet and a natural fur coat, there are areas (clearly marked) for them to stretch their legs, do their business, and sniff everything in sight. I stopped here on the Northbound side in the late afternoon and there were a number of people making stops here. It felt clean and very safe, even for females traveling alone.

Well there's lots of open space here to take your pet for a walk, could use a bit of water

Smaller than most along the I-5 and not as busy. Better to hold it until you reach Tejon Outlet Mall Area since it's only 3/4 mile away.

While my family and I were on our way home, we made a quick detour to fuel up the car, grab some snacks, and to use the restrooms. I am pretty confident in saying you will be able to find whatever you are in need of, here. Bonus points for having delicious eats all under one roof- Burger King, Popeyes, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and Subway. TA Travel Center is grand in size, the establishment is extremely roomy, things were organized, and while most shelves and aisles were stocked, the chips department was bare as a bone. Snacks are plentiful whether you are in need of just deliciously processed foods or healthier options. The restrooms are tidy and have restrooms on both ends of the building- that leaves for less wait times and quicker visits going in and out. The sales clerk was friendly, prompt, and the pricing is fair. 5 stars, I wouldn't hesitate to come back again.

OVERVIEW: After or before making the Grapevine mountain run,…read morethis is a good place to take a pit stop. But it's far from ideal, and could be A LOT BETTER. CONS: Hands down, Love's & Flying J Gas / Truck stops are far superior to TA Travel Centers any day of the week. TA simply feels old and outdated. The bathrooms are old, the coffee machines are old, and the corporate owners are not doing anything to upgrade the facilities. There have been times when the Men's / Women's bathrooms have been closed for cleaning maintenance DURING PEAK BUSINESS HOURS. Even though there are additional bathrooms, (albeit much smaller) on the premises, if a charter bus unloads a large group of passengers at this location during a peak hour maintenance break, YOU HAVE A DISASTER. C'mon management, it's a 24 HOUR FACILITY !!! Do the cleaning maintenance during slow traffic periods !!! There are many other gas stations at the East & West Laval Road Exits. (With TA Travel being on the East side.). But for some inexplicable reason, there seems to be a lot of flies at this location. So if you open your car or truck door for an extended period of time, you're sure to get flies in your cabin. I have never experienced this problem at other locations at Laval Road. There must be some sanitation issues there that are causing the flies to congregate there in force. PROS: HUGE parking lot. So if you want to walk your dog, or simply relax in your car for awhile, you're sure to find a spot which is quiet and no one will bother you. There is security on the property. (Although the same security company covers other establishments on Laval Road.) There are several food options ri. (Burger Thing, Taco Belly, Pizza the Hutt and Papi Eyes Louisiana Chicken, not mention the make it yourself hot dogs inside the TA facility.)

Let's get into it. Property itself, as I said is very nice inside, updated and clean. No fee for parking each night and it comes with a free breakfast, which is always a great thing. The rooms are also nice, updated, not huge, but plenty of space, they have a fridge and coffee maker. Very comfortable, but also probably the main reason for the 3 stars. The bed was comfortable, but as I was sleeping, I started to itch a bit and then after my stay I was very itchy for a few days. Not sure what the deal was, but not a good thing. I washed all my bedsheets at home and showered a number of times to ensure whatever was in the bed was not with me any longer. As I said, I think after 2-3 days the itching was over and back to normal. Too bad, as I enjoyed my stay otherwise. The staff here was very friendly and the also had a small indoor pool and a small gym. These two things were great, but also contributed to my one less star, the pool looked nice, but looked to be due for a cleaning. The gym was great, everything I need, but only one bench and no multifunction weight machine, which is a downer. As I said, love Hilton, staff was great, free breakfast, free parking, nice rooms, great looking property, pool and gym. But the itching spell I had after prevented me from rating this one higher, that combined with the gym also brought it down just a bit as well. Gym part is pretty minor though. I am sorry I cannot give them a higher rating this go around, enjoy!
