Awful wind entire time we were here. Decent campground and wind not their fault; this is more a negative review on Tehachapi as a whole.

We love camping and fishing at Brite lake. Peaceful. Affordable. Beautiful. Well maintained.

Beautiful escape right in our backyard. Sure, if you're coming from somewhere far and looking for an exclusive, beautiful r v park, this might not be the one for you. But if you want something quiet comma well maintained,and peaceful than you have come to the right place. This is a hidden gem. Sure the bathrooms could use a little more care and the showers are fair. We are here with full hook up r v camping. The sides are really accessible and clean. They even have a dump station If your impartial hook ups. Lots of camp sites and you can even come for day use. Cannot stress enough that I highly recommend this site as we come often. Is camp host has always been friendly and helpful to us. Our sites have always been cleaned and maintained. We have come with high water and low water. The fishing is fair but you cannot have body contact with the water. Makes me sad I can't use my paddle board here. But a kayak will do. Definitely recommend you camp out today but please don't take my favorite r v site. read more

We are new owners of a pop up trailer and my husband and I went out to Brite Lake to escape the heat in Bakersfield for a few days. We really enjoyed our stay! I want to go back as soon as possible! We stayed in campsite 5 which is in the full hook up section. We had a view of the lake on one side and mountains and trees on the other, which was so nice! It was also a pretty large campsite. It was a short walk to the horse shoe pits, playground and volleyball court. It was so quiet and peaceful! Perfect place for a date weekend! There is no swimming in the lake though so I don't know if my kids would have enjoyed that part. I still think it would be fun tho. You can rent canoes by the hour. The fishing was so fun! We caught a lot of little tiny fish and one big carp! We saw a couple people catch big bass also. It was a great time. The only thing we didn't like is there are big stickers and foxtails down by the lake and we have dogs. But the customer service and host were awesome and we really enjoyed it. I met my family here while they were camping. I only stayed for the day. They fished but didn't catch anything. I saw lots of other people trying to fish but they didn't really catch anything either; people kept talking about how when the water level was extremely low a lot of grass and other plant life grew and kind of made it to where you have to go further into the lake to actually catch fish, plus you can't use a gas motor boat, because it's water that supplies the domestic and agricultural Tehachapi area. Don't know if the reasons for not catching fish is true. The camping grounds were nice and clean and so was the bathrooms; they have bathrooms close by and showers. They also have water, electric and sewer hookups plus fire pit. You can't swim in the water for the same reasons gas boats are prohibited ; which is probably why it wasn't so busy with people and kids. We were a group of 12 adults; we barbecued, told stories, took pictures, sat around the fire pit to keep warm, enjoyed the nature outdoors and had a really good time. It's nice that it's just far enough to get away from the city and close enough to drive there. Would surely come back. read more

Beautiful Lake setting. They have dry camping, campsites with 30 amp power and water, and even have some sites with sewer hook ups. The camp hosts are very friendly and helpful. There is wildlife everywhere. The downside is that most of the sites are not very level, so bring extra leveling blocks and there is no swimming or gasoline powered boats allowed. read more

Love kayaking on this lake. I have not camped here but there were bathrooms and it is pretty close to the city.

I loved staying the night at this campground. I am glad for the hookups as the night was pretty cold. Long walks are a must here. The prices are reasonable as well. Check in is at 3pm and check out is at 12 noon and they mean it no matter if the place is full or empty. I felt a little rushed other than that it was a wonderful and relaxing time with lots of God's beauty all around me. I will be back! read more

BBQ and fire pit was full of ashes when we arrived. Camp host is not doing their job. I'm not cleaning up after someone else.

I'd go 3.5 but not an option. Had a nice stay Thursday-Saturday. Wanted to get out of the valley heat and it was cooler at Brite but still about 93*. It was comfortable in the shade and there are some sites with shade so that was nice. Couple of restrooms with one shower in each (which we did not use so that is not reflected in this rating). Porta potty by the picnic area (my son said it was pretty gross). A few trout were dying off, which is normal in the warmer weather so that won't reflect badly in my rating. Lots of ants roaming the ground and trees but we weren't bothered by them and they stayed out of the tent and the set up we had so no biggie. Lake levels were pretty low but we managed to get a few nice bass, sadly I couldn't find the crappie bite. Tons of HUNGRY baby bass attacking anything that moves in the water. Hopefully they grow big and stay hungry. I'd definitely come up again and enjoy the breezes, kayak the lake, and bait a hook. read more

We had so much fun camping at Brite Lake. It was Beautiful and peaceful. We took our 3 Grandkids and they had soooo much fun. Its close to town also if you forget something. We are going to go alot now that we went once. The workers were so friendly and so were the campers. We walked all the way around the Lake which is sooo clean. They have showers and toilets and the bathrooms were well lit and very clean. We only live 25 min. away so we will definitely be back. read more

$20.00 per night. The fire ring were just stones Piled in a circle. They didn't clean it out and FULL Of burnt charcoal. The BBQ grill wasn't cleaned and unusable. Found two metal tent pegs sticking out of ground-missed by inches. Could of slashed my tire if I had hit it. Bathrooms had USED toilet paper on floor! And a long way from tent camping. read more

Great campground. ! Always nice and relaxing here. $30 a night for water and electric hookup for the rv. Boating is electric trolling motors only. Or paddling in a canoe or kayak. No body contact as this is a water source. Rv dump station is no longer available. Its a great place !! read more

Stayed at Brite Lake Campground for 3 days in hope of breathing fresh air after many days in smoke filled Northern California. Perhaps we were asking for too much for cold hard 20mph wind pounding against our tiny trailer at site #10, a partial hookup site near Brite Lake. Moving to site #B full hookup the following morning to sheltered from the harsh winter wind. Dated bathroom with cold steel toilets and drippy water shower head can be reached after long walk in the dirt. Camping fees were reasonable but bathroom maintenance leave much to be desired. Partial hookup was $25/night and full hookup was $35/night and dump station was out to septic tank maintenance. Blasting sand at times making it hard to setup/takedown trailer or enjoy pleasant walk. Lot of different type of sticklers to keep pooch owner busy. Whole campground were dusty with typical patches of dry-and-ready to ignite Mediterranean grass. No WiFi but 3 bars LTE keeping us connected. Strangely absent was the OTA TV channels, we've got nothing on local channel for crucial news. Downtown Tehachapi is only 10mins drive away; good pastries and decent ethnic restaurants can be found there. Would we stay again? Probably, on the account of very pleasant camp host. read more

Peaceful and quiet campground. Camp hosts are very nice and accommodating and stopped by to make sure everything was fine at our site. We stayed here with our travel trailer for the weekend. It's very dark at night and agree that it's a little difficult to spot the entrance in the dark, but I don't think that's a reason to take away a star. I like campsites that allow me to enjoy nature, so I would not want lights to take away from the beauty of the stars. Do bring a flashlight to walk around at night, but that's just common camping sense. The lake is lovely and I enjoyed the views throughout the day. The hills are behind you and in the mornings the cows wander by (separated by a fence on the hill.) I found the restrooms to be typical of a campsite with steel toilets but they were clean and no issues. The campsite trash cans were emptied several times a day and the campground was not busy so I was appreciative of the hosts' attentiveness. If you want a campground with all kinds of activities and a resort feel, this is not it. If you want to enjoy nature and quiet, this is more like it. On the other hand, the site is only minutes away from Tehachapi, so if you need to make a run to the store for supplies or an emergency item, it's easily done. Nice place for a some rest and relaxation. read more

My husband and I loved this campground. So peaceful!! Quiet too! Be sure ti read the regulations and see if it works for your needs. We didn't fish but very much enjoyed watching the fishermen reel them in. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I would give 5 stars accept the rv electical sites have fairly small trees but they will grow. read more

It is a nice campground, but I wish u could make reservations. The fishing was good, we caught some trout. All other campers were nice. Didn't really see that much staff and had no contact with them. We paid by envelope in a lockbox which was fine. Loved the totem carvings and tree carvings. Would have gave them more stars but on our last day they turned off the water without telling us or warning us the night before. read more

The lake is after recent rain and snow storms absolutely pristine $5 for Day Camp pass but we were very disappointed with the fact the road to the lake has huge potholes that you can barely maneuver your vehicle through they obviously maintain the rest of the campground and Park no trash very clean clean campsites but I've noticed you major tractors on the property in good working condition where they should come through pack the mud while the ground is soft and level out the roadway if someone doesn't see one of these bottles they're going to break their whole front or rear end of their vehicle. So Brite Lake, get your guys out here working because this could be a beautiful sight get the roadways taken care of it's the one reason we won't come back read more

I used to love going to brite lake for a day. But I just looked into camping because it's close and my husband seems to think that camping is only possible if fishing is involved. Well, I just called to confirm, but not only do you have to have a Ca fishing license, you have to pay Brite Lake another fee on top of that. This is in addition to the fee you pay to camp. Are you kidding me???? I've already paid the state an exhorbitant fee for the privelege of trying to catch a fish and most of the time not getting a bite; I'm supposed to pay the Lake on top of that? I was told that this is for the cost of stocking the lake. Well, I think I'll go to Bishop instead. Longer drive but at least when the lakes there are stocked, they don't think they have to charge me for it. read more

It's a beautiful calming place to camp overnight, my bf took me and we enjoyed it. The only issues we have is the bathroom situation, they're very filthy. I would come back but it would do everyone good to clean the restrooms more often, (including the port potty's). We seen bunnies, toads, ducks and blue jays. To make this place better, I recommend you clean the restrooms more often and keep them up. read more

I used to love going to Brite Lake when I was growing up. I get that there's a drought, but its practically desert. And thank you for the wonderful nail in my tire. And to the nasty girl who left her dirty used tampon applicator for my son to find thank you for the doctor visit that cost us a pretty penny! We won't be going here anytime again soon. read more

Terribly hard to find at night. If there were lights, and/or larger signs it would be much easier to find. Once we got hooked up, all was well. The gorgeous lake, nice walking paths and clean restroom was all there welcoming us in the am. :) Highly recommend just bring flashlights or large light to help set up after lights are out . read more

my wife and i packed up and headed to Brite lake for tent camping on labor day,we also took our 3 teens 2 boys and my daughter, when we got there nobody was manning the check in station we registered payed and payed the 5 dollars for a pole in the water, like everywhere else the water was very low we pitched tents in the overflow fighting dust and heavy winds everyone had a yucky time and there was nails and screws all over the ground we were like in a dust storm and the ground was super hard and bent all and broke our pegs,,the kids were looking forward to s'mores but not on this outing. were concerned about valley fever , so we made the decision to tear down camp we made it exactly at dusk,and escaped a flat tire,our last time to this place, also a sign states no swimming and a woman pulled up with a full size dog and both headed straight into the water,, with nobody saying boo to her!!! read more
