Such a beautiful well kept campground. The weather here can get hot, but the creek makes it easy to stay cool. Hiking and fishing are also great ways to pass the time

This is my all-time favorite place to camp! It's also a doggie paradise; be prepared for local dogs to occasionally wander up and say hi! The campsite is as remote as you can get for car camping. It's like 20 miles away from anything...except for the bar & grille (and cluster of cabins) about 1/4 mile from the camp's entrance! You can get ice there, as well as great food and drink (and, hopefully, a head's up if a wildfire breaks out in the area!). The bar generally caters to bikers and other people who would prefer to party 20 miles away from civilization...but I grew up around bikers, so I don't have any kind of problem with this. They were all super nice, and half of the people there had dogs to greet mine. I camped there over Halloween, and while there was a bash going on at the bar, we couldn't hear anything at all at our campsite, other than the creek. Site 17 is my favorite; it's far back, yet close to a toilet, and close to the creek. There is a site closer to the creek, but this site seems bigger...and I've had bobcats come through my site when camping by other creeks, so I prefer the extra space, haha. I hope to camp here at least once a year!

    Grilling's still a little ways away ...

The best camping experience in recent memory. Jade and Joe, the camp hosts, are about as thoughtful and kind as it gets. (I showed up a little unprepared, and Jade selflessly made sure I didn't have to make a 60-mile round trip drive to save my overnight stay!) Jessie, who works at the bar and restaurant 1/4 mile down from the main campsite loop, also was gracious and funny, as was the collection of locals and regulars I met there. And it's great to have a restaurant near the campsites, but ... Don't get the impression that this place doesn't feel remote; it does, and it is. The area that the campground occupies is beautiful, with a creek running alongside many of the individual sites. The tables and fire pits are in good repair, and the bathrooms were as spotless as vault toilets can get. (I saw another reviewer's negative comments about the toilets, and all I can say is that any campground toilet is only as good as the last person who used it. Again, they were perfect when I visited.) Would I go back? I've already made the reservation for the end of October. Can't wait to take my family to see the best campground I've found so far. **Note: I'm not kidding about the remoteness of the location--don't let the fact that there is a bar/restaurant fool you. You will be ~45 minutes to an hour away from any meaningful medical care and supplies. Bring basic first aid, water (no potable on site), and everything else you think you might need. As long as you do this, the remoteness is wonderful ...

Jade, the camp host was AMAZING. Someone canceled the same day of my reservation and she offered me site 19 which was fully shaded and backed up to the creek so it was great for my dog and I. Quiet, serene walks alongside the creek and got to take naps in the shade while listening to the creek. Felt very safe there and everyone was respectful of quiet time. Spent two nights there for some much needed respite. Will definitely come again. Only 100 miles for beautiful scenery and peace and quiet. Thank you, Jade and everyone who helps maintain this campsite! It's greatly appreciated!

This is a beautiful campground with a beautiful creek running through it. The camp host, Jade, is also lovely. We chose this campground based on reviews that it offered privacy but I do want to make it clear here that camp spots are VERY close to one another. Multiple reviews mentioned that sites 17 and 18 offered the most privacy but the spots are literally on top of one another. We chose camp site 17 and the campers in spot 18 pulled up around 11 at night and their parking spot was literally 20 feet from our tent and I could hear their every word as they unpacked their car. Beautiful camping spot, beautiful atmosphere but know that if you camp here, you will literally be on top of your neighbors and there is zero privacy. If you want more isolation, may be worth booking two spots that are next to one another as this campground is really beautiful!

This place was beautiful. A little to cold but luckily we could buy firewood from the people working there ... they were great and helped with a few things we didn't have . There are a few local dogs that wonder the grounds that are very sweet and my kids loved seeing them.. the hiking trail that starts in camp is also amazing getting to walk along the creek the whole time. I definitely recommend it.. but dress warm!

20 bucks a night per camp site. Has a nice hiking trail. A variety of camp sites to choose from. Just a perfect place to get away from the city. A major plus is the bar at the entrance. The staff is really chill. Its under new management but i lucked out and met the old and new staff. All seem to be cool people. Downside is no running water so just be prepared with a solar shower and I'd recommend to meal prep ahead of time to avoid the clean up. The vault toilet is an evil place you never want to visit but just a tip take some kind of spray to mask the scent and something to cover your nose. Its at its worst during the heat of the day!

Stayed here 6/17/2016 - 6/19/2016 at Site 17. Sorry for the long review, I just hope it helps! THE DRIVE - Come up the 5 Freeway from Orange County was not bad. It was pretty much a straight shot up the 5 to Frazier Mountain Park Road exit, then from there to the site was just under an hour. The road at night was very dark and there are dips and turns I didn't see so be careful! The drive home South on the 33 (Maricopa Hwy) was just about an hour. Easy scenic drive through both routes. THE SITES - There are 30 sites, although it looked like a lot less. There are a fair amount of sites that were shaded but some that were right out in the open. Being that it is summer, the sites with no shaded were are real killer. The first few sites right as you enter the campground were great as they had larger sites with lost of shade (practically the whole site was covered in shade). We arrived at 11PM on Friday night and all the good sites with shade were all taken up leaving about 3 sites open but there was some that opened up on Saturday morning. There were sites that had hills or uneven terrain, making it hard to setup tents but for the most part a lot of the sites were flatter. Our site: 17 was most shaded but the site was a little broken up. There are two flatter areas for 2 tents (7-8 person tent and 4 person tent). This area was a little separated by some trees from the picnic table and fire ring. THE ATMOSPHERE - There are a good amount of bugs! Perhaps this is because of the summer but there were flies and gnats flying around us constantly. If you napped out in the open you'd have to swat them away or the'd just land on you. Perhaps I'm ok with bugs but there was a point where it was quite annoying and irritating. If you do go during the summer I would HIGHLY suggest you bring a tent with netting if you don't want to just sit in your tent to avoid the bugs. The whole campground was dog friendly, a few sites had dogs and everyone was very nice, no issues with other campers. Trails were dog friendly as well. There was one site that played loud music for most of the day. I don't mind music at all but when it's played at 7AM when most of the campground is still asleep was a little inconsiderate. They played it pretty loud where we were on the opposite side of the site and could hear it pretty loudly. I'm all for having a great time but please be considerate! THE BATHROOMS - These were hit or miss but overall not that great. I've personally seen worse but the bathrooms were either smelly or not too bad. Most had dead or alive spiders that made homes in the bathrooms and the way the bathrooms were setup you could usually see the bottom of the pit and it was not pleasant. The only bathroom that had running water was the one located outside the Bar, which was for the Bar patrons. We made due, even my 13 yr old sister who went camping for the first time was able to tough it out. RECREATION - The creek was pretty nice even though it was pretty low. You could hear the flow of the creek from mostly anywhere in the campsite. There was some hiking that was pretty easy and nice. We hiked along the creek and got to mini waterfall which was neat! There is a longer trail which we didn't end up going on but if I recall correctly it's about 17 miles long. All in all it was a fun trip and the ~4000ft elevation helped the site to not be too hot. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions! Also, Reyes Creek Campground (30 sites) is different from Reyes Peak Campground (8 sites). Happy camping!

What an awesome little getaway!! Jade the camp host was so awesome and friendly. Site 19 is the place to be. There are trails that begin right at the campground. The toilets...well..they're toilets. Maybe if I had kids with me..id bring a potty for them. The Lodge was a fantastic way to end each day and getting to talk with everyone was nice. Cant wait to come back... thank you!!!

Reyes Creek, aka Camp Shiedeck was beautiful and so much fun!!!!

Ask the Community - Reyes Creek Campground

Is there room for a 40 foot motorhome?

I would get space 6 or space 20. Space 6 is a pull through and space 20 you can back up. Both provide shade and are on the water side. Spring and summer bring bug spray because those bugs are bad. Be safe going up the last 3 miles into the… Read more

I have a 19 foot Airstream trailer. Can I bring it to Reyes Creek Campground? If so, which site is flat and easily accessible to park it?

Hi Jade, between sites 22 and 23, what would you recommend for a party of 2 plus a dog in Mid April?

So sorry I don't check this page often. 22 is a very small site for a tent but it is by the creek!

Can you bring more than one additional car? So if I have my site vehicle plus two more cars at $10, is that okay?

    Yes!

What is the temperature like during the night time during summer?

Every year is so different but it's usually pretty warm at night in the summer

I'm trying to find out where each campsite is, but there is no map. Can anyone help orient the sites from Google Maps? I got reservations for site 13 loop 2 but not sure if that's a good spot for hammock camping or not.

13 does have some smaller scrub oaks

Can we have 2 tents and 2 cars on one site if we pay an extra fee?

Yes, it's ten extra a night the extra car stays

Can someone mention a site number that is next to the creek, has shade, and is flat? Tall order, I know, but trying to make life easy when I take my wife and kids. :)

    4, 18, 19 4 and 19 are the best!

What's the weather like in late September?

There are tons of bugs and it depends on the year but still pretty warm!

Since it is first come, first serve, what is the best time to arrive to the campground?

Most sites are reservable . First come first serve sites are few and often taken by Friday morning . In the summer they're almost always already taken no matter the day. Best bet is reserving a site online! Recreation.gov. Reservations have to be… Read more

Would i have cellphone signal so i can play music apps?

I had a week to research and read up about the area, and I was poking around online I felt there was no detailed directions of the trail to the hot springs, just a few nondescript write ups and summaries here and there. So this review, I hope will help others find the hot spring easier since we got lost for over an hour in rain.... Backpacked 11/2/15-11/3/15 Miles: 20 miles out and back Time took: 30 hours (we overnighted it) elevation gain: less than 400 ft Adventure Pass needed Water: there were 2-3 spots to filter water Directions: on Google maps, type in Piedra Blanca Trailhead. Piedra Blanca Trailhead and Sespe River Trail start at the same parking lot, so it pulls up and you can use the app when you loose cell service. We came from LA, so we ended up taking the 33N to Rose Valley Rd, this area is considered Ventura County Trailhead: Adventure pass is needed to park here. There are pit toilets, when I went they also had toilet paper and weren't too dirty. There's some informational sign around here talking about the local animals you can find, a trail map, and some shaded picnic benches where you can have a nice picnic. The hike: we started at 9:45 AM Monday morning, the first 2-3 miles in the trail was dry with no sight on water. Do not be discouraged, right around 2-3 miles, we didn't spot it right away, but when we hiked further up, we spotted a pool of water off the trail. So if it had been necessary, we would have gone off trail to that water source. But at 3 miles in, I heard running water. We hiked off trail and found the source and actually filtered at this spot. It's a nondescript spot, you just have to keep alert of the sound of running water. Going to this spot was unnecessary though, if you know the trail well, you know that Bear Canyon Campground is right around the corner at 3.5 miles in and there is a spring fed pond here with moving water that is easier to filter at. We talked to a guy here and he said there seems to always be water here and it's a good swimming hole. The trail is decently well beaten and well marked. About 8 miles in you will come upon a big metal trail sign. It's faded and kind of hard to read, but points you in the direction of Ladybug Campground and Hines Peak. Scratched into the sign it says Willett and tell you to stay on the trail you are at. Shortly after that sign, keep a look out for the trail sign on the right. We actually got lost here and walked past it. If you walked past it and come to a camp spot with a fire circle and shovel, you've come too far. We scrambled in the river wash for a while here having lost the trail. Back track and find that small trail sign, it makes you cross the river wash here. Once you cross the river wash, the trail keeps going. look for a fork in the trail and go left. It's a pretty small fork, we put up cairns here the other day, but it is easy to miss. We got lost here too and had to keep backtracking. You cross a swampy area right here. Right when you cross and get to the other side, you will shortly come across the house/shack/a fenced area. Woohoo! You are almost there! Go past that house. With the house behind you, you will see a stone stack/chimney, take the trail above and to the right of it. From there, it's an upward climb, but you're only a few hundred yards away from the Willett Hot Spring tub. You will first come across a small camp spot here. There was a fire ring here the other day. Go past that, and into the foresty area and go up. There you will find the tub, wedged into the crevice of the mountain. Tips: bring a water filter. Depending on time of year, be prepared for rain. Bring sandals if you don't want to go barefoot in the tub, and a towel to dry off. Don't give up. We soaked in the hot spring for a good hour Tuesday morning and had the place all to ourselves. Temp we would guess was around 108 degrees. There are scrubs left there to scrub some of the sliminess. I didn't care, I got right in. Good luck!

How have I never been here before…read more... Sunday with no plans on the book. Let's take a drive to Frazier Park and go hiking. Same with that, never been to this little town as well. It's literally off the 5 freeway a couple miles in and you at the town. It was about half hour or 45 minutes drive up the mountain from the freeway till where the mountain start. There's different sections that you could go to if you wanted to hike or camp. We didn't really know where and what trails there was. Just ended up at of the campsite parking lot and went from there. There's loads of trails to choose from. Theres sign at the base that'll tell you the levels of hike and the distance. Also, the path was pretty wide on the one we were at which was nice. Right when you get out of the car, you could already smell the difference in air quality. Mountain air, being in nature with all the beautiful trees and noise of the birds. This place was beautiful. The path was nice to walk, slightly uphill and not hard. We passed loads of people but it still felt very quiet as you're in the woods. There's still loads of wildflowers growing. Temperature wise, it was perfect as your at a higher elevation and there was also nice breeze. Just walking and seeing all the beautiful trees, some covered in moss. The chipmunks running past you along the paths, it's a completely different experience from the hustle and bustle of the city. The views were amazing. When you get to the lookout point where the tower is, there was two tins/cans along the rocks that you could leave a message. Notebook and pen was provided for signing. This particular trail wasn't hard even though it said it was but very manageable. About 2 miles each way. But the views along and at the top of the lookout was spectacular. It's amazing that an hour or so from the city, there's so many hidden gems. Nature is beautiful if you haven't noticed. And another place for hiking on our lists.

With such an inviting name, my friend and I wanted to be sure to check it out. Arriving in Pine Mountain Club on a Friday afternoon in April, we decided to save a longer trail for Saturday and visit the Enchanted Forest Trail with about 1.5 hours remaining before sundown. The trailhead is very simple to find. From there, the trail was not difficult to follow until it brought us to a rocky dry watercourse on the mountain. We had read that the track might get lost, but most of the reviews on AllTrails saying that were from winter. We had followed the path pretty easily until the watercourse, but at that point we lost it. We considered scrambling up the rocky gorge but that seemed wrong. At that moment, we heard voices echoing in the canyon, and that directed my attention over across the watercourse into the underbrush. We realized we could cross the gulch and find the trail on the other side. Locating the path, we soon passed the people coming down from the trail's end. We asked how it was, and they said "it gets steep and rocky." It had already been like that, so we wondered how much steeper and more rocky it might be. After going on for another 5-7 minutes, we arrived at an area on the path that felt like it was vibrating with energy. Neither of us is particularly spiritual but this place, where a large redwood had fallen with a tremendous, splintered split across its trunk and where someone had placed a stone cairn, felt inexplicably mysterious. (See my pic. The place where the trunk splits is taller than the height of a person.) The sun had just dipped behind the ridgeline, and we decided this would be where we would stop. It's an out-and-back trail, so why not make this our back point? On the way down the trail, I started to get tinnitus in my right ear. This isn't something that has happened to me in recent memory. Maybe because the area is so quiet, I could hear a ringing in my ears. But then, out of nowhere, a tree started dropping its leaves on the path to our left. No wind blew, nothing discernible changed. Leaves just started dropping. We thanked the forest for hosting us, and made our way down the path--without urgency, but expeditiously. Whatever's enchanting this forest was probably having a good time. We did too. Just be ready for a hint of the chills as you hike along.

I like this trail, it lives up to its name and is very much like walking through a movie forest…read more Trees split in half, old rock slides, echo-y mountains give this trail such a good and on edge vibe. Unfortunately we had to head back early because the ground was too frozen to walk on without some sort of special ice gear.

When my husband, our little girl dog and I visited this national forest last month, we saw patches of poppies and other beautiful flowers all throughout our drive and brief walk to take family photos. There was no admission price to pay when we came, but have read from other Yelp members' reviews that you may need a forest adventure pass. But there was no one that was selling the passes on site, nor did we see signs that indicated that we needed to have one when entering the forest (we also did not hike or engage in any type of activities when we were in the forest so I am not sure if we needed it). I may be wrong but I just thought I would mention this information. Anyways, it was a nice day when we arrived. Unfortunately the visitor center (where there are restrooms but did not see any where else where there are restrooms so be sure to use the restroom before coming here) was closed and one of the entrances was closed as well (which is probably why we were not charged to come in here or were required to purchase the adventure pass). There did not appear to be a lot of shade so be sure to wear a hat and bring water to stay hydrated if you plan on hiking here. If you want to see Mother Nature in action, this is the place to check her out in all of her glory if you happen to be in this part of California.
