first time there "Tejas Cafe" shares parking lot with "Brookshire, CVS" off Hwy 80. From the lunch menu I had the "SPUD" 8" of over stuff Bake potato Yummy I did not leave hunger. My husband had the lunch fajita combo nice sizes of strips of tinder chicken and tender strips of beef. Our server was great patient, but very efficient. she made us feel very welcomed. This place is a staple every time I come into my home town to visit family. The staff are always friendly and the Flameados are delicious!

My husband and I visited Tejas Cafe for the first time this afternoon. The food was amazing, 10/10! The services was not so great:/ Our waitress was respectful but she was very inattentive. 10 minutes to get four tortillas, then they weren't even warm! Sat waiting to order our meal with empty drinks for a good 20 minutes. All while she sat in a booth a few sections over chatting with friends. Then to top it off when we went to check out we notice a fee for the green sauce she OFFERED us at the front door, it would have been different if we would have ordered it off the menu like we did the queso. All in all 5/10, we did see other waitress tend very well to their tables! read more

Decor and bathrooms are awful. Food not so great. We only had bean and cheese nachos. Asked for spicer salsa they brought out house salsa added cayenne pepper with junks of chopped onions and peppers in there. read more

This place has had some pretty tough reviews in the past. We just ate there and had a great experience. Our server took 12 orders, by memory, and got everything right. She was amazing!! Salsa is great, but not spicy. We had chicken enchiladas and they were awesome. Rice and beans on point! Best of all...the complimentary home-made sopapillas. That's a soft "1" star rating. If they had a negative rating, I'd give them the max. I've never been a fan of their sub par food and ridiculously bad service, but my wife likes their green sauce with salsa, but today we didn't even get that. We bailed after waiting 15 minutes for someone to come take our drink order. Bad food, bad management and a bad wait staff. This place is the worst. Take my word, or go see for yourself. OMGOODNESS Taco Thursday!!! If you have not tried it, do yourself a favor and go this Thursday. You will be so happy that you did. We got tacos to go so they were not as good as if we had eaten them hot at the restaurant. However, they were awesome. The flavors were there!!! The chips were fried perfectly. The chips & salsa were also great. I could eat the salsa with a spoon or drink it with a straw! Seriously, Taco Thursday means that the tacos are only $1.00 each... Crazy good! Give them a try. Don't let the building deter you from coming here. As someone who pays attention to detail the multiple burned out lightbulbs in the ceiling fans was a little annoying. However, the service made up for it. Katrina was phenomenal. She anticipated our needs and we did not have to ask for anything. She was very friendly. The food was pretty decent and the portions were generous. We found the prices to be very reasonable. The lunch specials will definitely encourage another visit. read more

I am only giving one star because it was hands down the worst Mexican food I have ever had. If I could give Zero stars I would but seems I have to give it something. The shredded chicken quesadilla was in a flour tortilla that was more like folded and warmed in a toaster making the tortilla hard like stale. The shredded chicken was so gross I am not sure what that was but it was chunks in some sort of red sauce. I should have left the second they came out with chips and salsa and the chips were stale. Do NOT get me started on the brown guacamole on the plate, the extremely flavorless and dry pretend Spanish rice let alone beans that were so thick you could use as concrete. By far the WORST place on earth. If I could give it zero stars I would. The owner couldn't get his head out of his ass long enough to even carry on a conversation with me. Me and my husband moved from Arlington and this was our first time trying the place out, we had friends who showed up 15 minutes before we arrived and got us a booth, as soon at we got there we was seated by Katrina "the manager" then out of nowhere she asked us to leave, mind you we JUST sat down and didn't even get to order our drinks yet, so confused me and my husband asked why and Katrina said she wasn't going to deal with us and the owner called the cops on us and told them that we was stealing chips and salsa from a previous visit (HOW RIDICULOUS!!) due to the fact we JUST SAT DOWN AND THIS WAS OUR FIRST VISIT TO THE RESTAURANT!! This place is delicious! We were lucky enough to have a friend, Walt Cade, introduce us to this restaurant. Wow! Our food was delicious! The BEST red salsa I've ever had! The fajitas were absolutely amazing and the carne Assad was so darn tender and flavorful. Cooked perfectly! I would definitely be back! And highly recommend it! The chef Sam was so friendly and cooked amazing food. The food came out fast and hot! The owner Michael Gunn is so hospitable and checked on us during our meal. Awesome service! The manager Tiffany was our server and she was so friendly and helpful. She checked on us throughout our meal and always brought us anything we needed with a smile. read more

I know from eating here in the past that its unclean and over priced. When they advertised new management we went in to try out the changes, and ordered the daily lunch special which was listed on the board inside the door. Upon being rung up we where informed that the special was from the day before and hadn't been wiped off yet, so we where charged full price. Will NOT go back again. read more

Decided to try Tejas for the first time in probably a decade recently. Chips were lukewarm if not cold. Red salsa was decent. Green salsa was bland. Ordered an appetizer plate consisting of potato skins with nacho beef and cheese stuffed in them, taquitos and southwestern egg rolls (in tortillas instead of egg roll wrappers). All three were very good, although the taquitos and egg rolls weren't much different than what you could buy at Sam's and cook yourself. Service was good. Overall I enjoyed it. read more

Walked in and even though it's a non smoking restaurant it reeks of stale cigarette smoke. Should have just left but decided to stay. There was only one other table of diners and I can see why. Salsa and green sauce is not very good at all. The portions of food are small for a Tex-Mex restaurant and not good at all. The last straw was another diner found part of a toothpick in his food. I can imagine that the cook had one in his mouth and it fell out. Place looks dirty and unkept. Will not go back! read more

Tejas waxes and wanes in the taste of some of their food. They are consistent with some items that are most excellent. Their cheese burgers on a sourdough bun with either crispy fries or seasoned fries is more than a lot of people can eat. Their catfish is passable. Both of these are moderately priced. Some of their Mexican dishes are a little more pricey but not any more expensive than other restaurants. The taco recipe has changed over the last year and needs to change back. Thursday is dollar taco day so expect harried wait staff and extra time between refills. They do have clearly listed daily specials. Any meal ends with a gratis sopapilla. I eat here often for convenience sake but, if you're in Gladewater and want a quick delicious meal, Tejas has a nice variety In both price and fare. Addressing past issues. The smoke scent is gone. The red sauce is still excellent. The green sauce is sometimes a little bland but sometimes not. Keep in mind that the waiter/waitress may be a little new and possibly very young, be kind. read more

Went tonight and had stale cold chips. Then I found a piece of red brick in my beans! When we showed the waitress she told the manager and they discounted a whole 3.00 off the meal!! She then told us about how she cracked a tooth on a olive pit somewhere else, and that manager gave her an aspirin. I don't feel like we should have had to pay for a meal that was so poorly prepared. This wasn't handled properly by the manager, and I do not recommend this place to your family or your family pet. read more
