Rude front desk, the lady coloring my hair didn't have a clue to what my appointment was for and was doing two other peoples hair at the same time. Told her I had a tender head so she managed to pull it hard many times after that, turned freezing cold water on my head not once but twice. The she proceeded to get water all down my back and tried to down play it and say just my shoulder was wet. Then tells me it will be 45 min until my haircut- I'm in wet clothes, with wet hair. My sister and I had a full day scheduled at teddie. Started with a body scrub, massage, waxing, facial, and ended with color, cut, and blow dry. The morning started out with a consultation with teddie Kossof. Not sure what the point of that was but I guess some people might feel better talking to the owner. He asked if it was my first time and asked why I didn't come before. He said that some ppl might be intimidated that the prices are high as it was a bigger salon. I never thought that but okay. Moved on to my actual services. My body scrub was done by Paula. She was amazing! Loved the whole experience and she made me feel very comfortable. Then my facial, waxing, and massage was done by two other ladies which I can't remember the name. The whole process was okay. The facial lady did have a great touch where I pretty much passed out instantly from the face massage but I didn't really feel that it was anything super special. I wouldn't go back for these services as other places seem to be better. My sister also didn't feel it was that special. Also the facial lady stopped mid facial and started writing down what lashes and glue she uses for her eyelash extension. Super unprofessional. Up to this point my experience was just ok. Nothing to write home about but no huge complaints. My color was done by Esse. She was supposed to be a master colorist at teddie. I requested a master for all our hair services as i didn't want any issues. I asked to go ashy blonde and understood that I might not get to the color I want that day. I asked to go as blonde as I can without major damage. She highlighted my entire head and toned the black roots. The end result was very spotty highlights with a lot of bleeding from the foils and some of the roots were colored and lightened and some were still black. This was a master colorist at teddie!!!!!! I had better results from a beginner colorist at home. She was the worst colorist ever! My sister got a haircut and they made her look like uneven stairs at the end of the hair. She cried for two days. The manager said she is there to help but she enraged me more. When I asked her to look at my sisters cut she had no idea what the issue was. She also kept referring my sister as my daughter when I corrected her many times. It was as if she was doing it on purpose. She made an appointment with another colorist the next day to fix it. The end product was nothing was fixed and inside my head was still spotty.I just left it there as I didn't want to damage my hair any more than what they did. The colorist told me to go to a Asian blonde specialist next time as a master colorist at teddie is not necessarily able to do this. Teddie Kossof should be on the stay away list!! I would never go back again if someone paid me. The worse experience and I spent a lot of money that day. Oh they even screwed up my lunch I ordered. Worst salon and spa experience of my life. I went with my sister and I think they thought I was younger than I am because they didn't seem to take me seriously. They just told me to go here and there without letting me know what was going on. I started with a massage and body scrub which were alright but after the facial it just started getting weird. The facial lady kept pestering me about my lashes and where I got my materials and what brands I used. She stopped mid-facial to take out a pen to write it down, she even asked me how to spell the materials and brands I used...She also kept trying to make small talk and asked why I moved to Georgia and I proceeded to tell her it was because my parents were sick. She then said she also had sick parents 11 years ago and that they had died of cancer. I'm very sorry about that but I'm paying to relax and get a facial done, I'd rather not talk about death, it just a bit unprofessional. Then after that I got a haircut by Jessica. I requested a master for all the services I was getting done that day, yet they put me with a beginner. She was very nice and optimistic in the beginning. While I was getting the haircut she started getting very rough with my hair and pulling and tugging. I understand I have a lot of hair but that doesn't mean I don't feel pain..they also double booked her while she was still cutting my hair so she started rushing. By the end of it I was in so much pain, when she asked me if it was alright I just said yes because I didn't want her pulling my hair anymore. When I showed my sister my hair she was enraged. I have never in my life had a hair cut that bad. I could've done a better job blindfolded. It was so choppy and disconnected. She also put in double the amount of layers I asked for. Trimmed my bangs when I told her I was growing them out. When we asked for the manager she seems upset that we weren't happy with the haircut and didn't see what was wrong with my hair. They had someone who was a level 2 stylist try to fix my hair but it didn't help. At this point I was so upset with how my hair looked I actually started crying. I have never cried because of a haircut before. They eventually had a master fix my hair. As he was cutting my hair he seemed annoyed. I was legit crying in his chair and he completely overlooked that and didn't even offer me a tissue..like was I supposed to be sorry that he's fixing a mistake that his salon made in the first place? I love Emma, the stylist I have been seeing for the last year or so! She is talented and adorable. Essie, has been ok for color. I feel the rest of the Salon is like a factory. They are more concerned about numbers then pleasing a client. The service is below par!! I added a glaze to my color, and due to the extra time. The stylist I was booked with said he couldn't keep my appointment, because the process was 15 minutes longer for color. This should have been explained to me. I've always had a glaze with my color, I wasn't told this would be an issue, and would prevent me from seeing Jason for a cut. I was booked with another stylist, who did not listen to what I had in mind, she proceeded to do what she wanted, telling me she does lots of men's hair. GUESS what I am a girl, and my hair has more layers than I've had in years. I also felt rushed! Not relaxing at all...$144 NOT HAPPY! When I spoke to the manager, and showed him a pic of what I like, he said to me....well how old is that picture. How insulting!!! Very unhappy with my experience today in the Salon. A CUT BELOW THE REST My girls step mother recommended me take my girls to Teddie Kossoff in Northfield, il for hair appointments as she took her girls there when they were little. As it was reasonably priced I called and made appts w Lydia and Bianca. They were recommended for them.. and they were only 25. I asked if that was for cut and dry/style and I was told 25 for both. So $50 total. Then I went on to local flavor and purchased a voucher for $50 to get $100. So I thought PAY 50 get 50 free. ( I could get free hair cut) But before I purchased it, I wanted to make sure it could be used for 3 diff people and if it could be could I come a different day.. and they said it could be used for our 3 haircuts but all had to be at the same time. SO I asked how much a hair cut for me was and they said between 47-52. I was ok wit h paying 5-7 difference. They said if I hadn't used all 100 value I wouldn't be able to get a new voucher or change as it has no cash value. I went ahead and purchased the voucher. Ii wrote down the ladies name who I spoke with, It was Dorthy. I called back and made the appointment for myself. Oct 20 I bring the girls in for their hair cut and get them situated.. I go get myself washed and get my hair cut. Time to pay. I hand my voucher to the lady. She was "hold on I don't know how to d this" The other lady comes over and says, "this is not valid for hair" I said "well I called before I purchased it AND before I made my appointment and they said it could be used for hair. I explained the situations they gave me re change given and all 3 using for hair the same day and how I could pay the difference if it went over 100. The lady told me again You cant use this voucher but I can offer you a discount of 20%. I said I wasn't interested in the discount. I told them I would have never made appt for hair if that were the case.. and never have gone there. I also told them that I had no other money on me to pay with. That must have gone in one ear and out the other bc she kept asking how id like to pay. I went in the other room to call my mom to vent and I asked who the manager was. While waiting for her the other Rude lady came over to me and said "Your girls weren't 25 they were 50each! She also said EVERYONE who answers our phones knows this is not for hair... I said Are you saying I'm a Liar. and she was... Now, I was LIVID The manager came over a few mins later. I explained to her what happened. She went and asked her boss and he approved my voucher. She said that since my girls had braids I owed 50.. guess what.. MY GIRLS DIDN'T have braids. I went aside with the manager who quietly rang me up after I was embarrassed and portrayed me to be a liar. Anyway I had to pay $52 for my hair (which I wouldn't have gotten done if I knew that) I asked for a printed receipt and asked her her name to write down for my records... Her name was Dorthy. I had my first visit today. I must say- it's a beautiful place and very upscale. I got a massage which was good. Then, I got a pedicure by Jossett. She was amazing! She made me feel extremely comfortable. Then I got a blow out by jasmine. She was also amazing! Very cool and down to earth. The only reason I did not give this place five stars, is because one of the receptionist made me feel extremely uncomfortable when I was about to leave. She gave me a a cold look. I had a smile on my face and she didn't even smile back. Fine, not a big deal. But she was just pretty grouchy looking. The young lady at the checkout asked her for help and she seemed so bothered. As much as I want to go back soon, I'm having second thoughts because of her. I wonder if it was because I am Hispanic or have a few tattoos. I'll never know... Overall- I'd recommend this place. The front desk staff are rude on the phone and in person. I only put up with it bc I have not had a better stylist than her. She does a great job and I have lived 1-2 hours away for most of the last 4 years or so and still will make it a point to come and see her. She is that good. Just found out she is no longer working there. They just lost my business as she was the only reason I went there. shame on you teddies for not keeping your amazing stylists happy. I live nearby but had never gone here. I just got a bad vibe from the ads they run in our local paper - the owners pictured always looked like sleazy gigolos. I decided to get two groupons though, and to take my mom. I figured it might be more of a spa environment than where I usually go, which is a very nice place, but just a nail place. When I called and mentioned the groupon, the person at the front desk said they could not accommodate us for months, but not to worry, the expiration date wouldn't be imposed. I informed her that this would not work for us because my father was going to be getting serious surgery and we could not be getting mani/pedis while he was recuperating. To her credit, she immediately found us a spot at the exact time we had asked for. It is clear to me that they have the openings for full freight customers, they just don't want to honor the groupons too often. While we were there, there was only one other nail customer the whole time. They were completely empty. I have no idea why they won't honor their groupons timely. It seems like the better business practice would be to either not offer groupons or, if you are trying introduce new customers to your business and are striving for repeat business, treat groupon customers in such a way that they might actually come back. The other odd thing was that this was just like the regular mani/pedi I get at my usual place for $50, not some $89 value. They did throw in a bottle of OPI polish, but that offer was completely deceptive. There were about 10 bottles to pick from and they were all horribly hideous colors that neither I nor my mother, nor anyone else, would ever wear. The place is completely tired and 70s looking, and a mess. This place is huge but apparently doesn't have the income to allow for desperately needed updating. I recently purchased a Groupon for this spa. I have never been here before but I'm often out in the burbs and thought why not give it a try. When I called to make an appointment, they were happy to see if they had availability on the days I suggested. When I mentioned I had a Groupon I was informed they aren't taking Groupons at the moment and the best option would be for me to call Groupon for a refund. How disappointing is that? They said they could put my on a wait list but they're not sure how soon they can get me in. I believe there were 800 groupons sold. I don't understand why so many deals were made available on Groupon if there is not enough manpower to accommodate the customers? 1 star for poor customer service (not because Teddie Kossof was rude but because they couldn't accommodate Groupon purchasers...), the fact that I had to get a refund on my Groupon, and that I had no other options to redeem my Groupon for other services. read more

I had a great experience with my nails, but I had my hair colored and was not happy with the color whatsoever.I decided to go back and try again but had a groupon this time, and the stylist asked me if I was going to keep my hair blowed out for a few days because if not, there was no point in blow drying my hair straight! 12/19/13: Since this company decided to reply to my review 4 months later, allow me to update. I did not "forget" what I bought. The groupon was for a 30 minute facial and a 60 minute massage. As I said below, your staff ensured me that I could have a full one-hour facial and no table massage as an even exchange because i was pregnant and full body massages were not safe at the time. Did your staff intend me to have an "introduction" to a facial at the full groupon cost of $65, because that's pretty steep. Since so many people had negative things to say about their groupon experience at your salon, perhaps you might consider that the root of the problem is you, not them. Second, I have had the "clarins experience" and this was not it. As I stated in my original review, the products were good, but the service was not anywhere near the quality it should be for a $125 rate. If your team meant to give me just an "introduction" to the products, then I should not have been quoted $125 when I asked about the rate on which to tip. I stand by my original review. Original Review: I received a one-hour facial (originally had groupon for 30 minute facial and massage but had to change the service after becoming pregnant). I would not go back here or recommend it and here is why: Although the therapist (Kelly) had a nice touch and the products were good, there were a bunch of real problems. 1. I asked to have the table raised so I was not lying flat for so long. She told me she "couldn't" do that. I checked under the table and it was clearly just like any chaise lounger - it could have been raised just by lifting the back. I was shocked at such poor service and disregard for my well-being and comfort in pregnancy. 2. Although it's common for a facialist to step out for a brief time toward the end of the service if a masque has been applied, I was left alone for almost the entire last 15 minutes of the appointment! I kept glancing at the clock as the time just ticked by...she breezed in eventually, turned on the light(!), cleaned my face off, applied a lotion and bam I was done. 3. Despite this, I wanted to tip on the regular price for the service...then found out it was $125!! I was appalled. I have received many facials, some pricey, some not and this was sooo not worth the money. Left alone for 15 minutes, no hand, arm, or scalp massage, cramped and outdated rooms. Bad news. Bottom line: the thought of going here and paying full price for the service I received is laughable. read more

I had welts under both eyebrows for 1 week after the eyebrow wax. My skin peeled off -- the wax must have been too hot. Mira knew something was wrong because she applied neosporin. At home, I discovered she also completely waxed off about 1/4+ inch at the end of my eyebrow - so now I am penciling it in for the next several months until it grows back!!! First off this place is a 3.5 star place. I used to come here a lot for a bunch of different things- hair cuts n' dyes, nails, facials, brow waxes, etc. The highlights of Teddie's- the estheticians and the colorists. I love Jackie C. She did a fantastic job on my make-up for one of my bridesmaids, my mom and myself. She's also been my go-to person for facials and brow waxes for years. I think if Brenda Bendel still existed (the spa services owned by Brenda Bendel was absorbed within the last year or so into the Teddie Kossof salon) the star rating for the spa itself would've been a lot higher. Also when I used to dye my hair they did a pretty good job as the color lasted longer than the standard 6 weeks. The standards of Teddie's - the salon stylists. I've always gotten good but not great haircuts here. I got my hair done for my wedding here as well and it looked good for the pictures but the curls fizzled out pretty badly toward the end of the night. I also like edgier haircuts and they've always recommended against that, so I've always gotten the same type of haircut from every person I've gone to, from the master designer to the junior "trimmers". If you're looking for edgy, this is not the place to go to. The negatives of Teddie's - the nail services. I got a mani/pedi for my wedding here and the service was terrible. I wish I remembered the name of the lady that did my nails, she was a super pasty lady who wore a lot of makeup. She was snarky the entire time I was getting worked on, not sure if she had a bad day or what her deal was but she was pushy and unpleasant. Also she cut my nails super short and the color was not exactly what I would've wanted but it worked out fine. Definitely not worth the $75+ I dropped for the service. Since the wedding I've dropped off from going to Teddie's except to go see Jackie every once in a while. Just save your money and go some place other then here! I called a week or so in advance to get three blowouts for my little sister, my mom and myself for a wedding. I was told it would cost a certain amount for each person (because I didn't want a master stylist, which cost's $$$$). Once we go there we each had our hair washed. I'm was the last to get started and yet the first to get done. My stylist Betty, I believe.....was sweet but not efficient. She told me I only had 30 mins with her and that she had someone coming in after me. I felt like she was rushed with me and didn't let the hair sit so it could hold the curls/waves. Don't get me wrong, my hair looked nice but went flat after 15mins My mom and my sisters hair looked nice. Their stylists really took the time to ask and get it right to make the customers happy. I went to pay what I thought was the price per person (because again I was told one price and I triple checked that price before I booked) but to my surprise they changed the price and charged me almost $45 extra. THESE BLOWOUTS WERE NOT WORTH THE PRICE I PAID!!!!!!! Such a waste of money. What I'm most upset about is the fact that they lied to the customer. When I asked them why they changed the price, all they said was "well it's Sunday and you got A higher level stylists". WTF that's what I didn't want...... Why I'm even giving a 1 star is because the other two stylists which worked on my mom and sister's hair did a nice job. Overrated and not worth the time or money!!!! read more

I have permed hair. I did not want to use permanent or demi-permanent color by myself because I don't know what I'm doing. Goldwell #5N was so easy for a rookie like me to use! I followed the instructions in your online video. I used it this morning. Now my hair is really shiny and soft, the gray is blended away, the creeping orange is neutralized, and my color is no longer looks dull. Just in time for Mother's Day! The DISAPPOINTING: I got to my morning appointment perhaps 15 minutes late ('cause I forgot how far north on Waukegan Road it was, duh), which I acknowledged immediately upon arrival with a "Hello. So sorry I'm late". I spoke loud enough to be heard. The woman who received me at the front desk replied in an louder voice "You're late." Did she not hear me? Was she ignoring me? Was she attempting to shame me? Hmm. Seems she could have said to me "You're late, but no worries. We'll make it work." I was bothered enough about being late already. I like being on time. Teddie Kossof's Salon has been around for a long time. They are well known in the Chicagoland area and throughout the Midwest. That being said, I can honestly say that I have gotten better service at a much lower price in metro Chicago. Teddie's prides itself on its name and passes that exclusiveness along to customers. I did not have a chance to meet Teddie but his son Alan has an ego the size of Texas. I did not appreciate him at all. I have never experienced a salon director as arrogant as Alan Kossof. read more

I have been to Essie twice now for highlights/lowlights and have been satisfied both times! She is very quick and does a great job with my blonde hair and it looks natural every time! If you have blonde hair I suggest going to see her. Only issue is that when I am paying upstairs it seems like the transaction is never smooth and usually incorrect, it's possible that the girls need more training. If you haven't been here before the process is a little different than most shops. You get a ticket with your information on it upstairs, then you go downstairs for the appointment and grab a smock. Afterwards your hair is washed by an assistant and then you blow job/style it yourself. I wish they did all of that for you since you are paying so much. read more

Although I grew up on the North Shore, I rarely entered this haven of mirrors, women with wet hair, and gossip. It's all just a little too much for me. Recently I was in a friend's wedding, and this is the place she chose to have us get our hair and make up done. Our hair was pretty good, although I don't understand why you would curl hair first, and then rat/backcomb it. They had to redo all of the curls. One girls' hair didn't quite make it to the wedding, but the bride's updo did so I guess that's what mattered. We also had our makeup done and it was amazing. They have two very talented makeup artists. Our makeup lasted 14+ hours, and did not look clownish or overdone. I don't see a need to ever go back, unless I'm in another wedding and need my makeup done again. read more

Omg. I love how my hair turned out. From a dull brown to a vibrant burgundy color. I wasn't disappointed at all. Color: Megan really nice and sweet. Did a quick but amazing hair color and what's shocking is that she only did it in a single process! Hair color is even throughout :) Haircut and style: Alex did a really amazing job in creating the beach waves! And just in time for my trip since I'm leaving that night. A great full service salon and spa. They can do just about anything here. I have had my haircut and colored multiple times, hair blow outs, mani/pedi's, and massages. Its a great place to go if you just want to get away from it all. Mindy has done my hair cuts and blow outs. She is very knowledgeable about not only my hair but products to help my hair. She has suggested some great products that have really helped. Ive had 2 colorists, Marianne and Inga. Both were very good. Inga was a little more quiet.. but still did a great job. They have a full range of colors and can do just about any color combo you want. If you want to get crazy, I even saw a young girl getting pink and purple highlights. I have been completely satisfied with my color appointments. Ive had 2 massages, one 1 hour and one 2 hour. Both were top notch. Marianna did both of my massages. its like she just knows where you hurt. The 2 hour massage I had was the best massage of my life. I have gone once a month for many years now and that was the best one Ive ever had. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Marianna. Ive gone several times to get my eyebrows threaded. The lady that does it is nothing short of a miracle worker lol. Its totally worth the pain. The salon store has a lot of high end products to choose from. You should definitely check it out. Also.. get a Wet Brush. Don't ask any questions, just get one. it will change your life. My ONLY hang up.. and I know this is just a complaint, but my ONLY issue is the price. I REALLY think there should be some sort of frequent customer card. Or better yet.. the ability to make a package for the day at a discounted rate. Im happy to pay for great service, but there should be some sort of incentive to keep going back or if you are spending the whole day there. read more
