i don't know why, but I was at first intimidated to go here - i think it's because their website looks all fancy and European-like lol But when I saw an Amazon deal for a keratin treatment I thought i'd give it a shot...... i am SO glad i did! I just went this morning and Hanna did a FANTASTIC job! I had never gotten a Keratin treatment, so I was a bit nervous, but she explained everything to me, and she did such a beautiful job on the haircut I got with it. Hanna is also super nice and I had a great conversation with her for the two hours I was there - not too gabby but not too quiet either :) The atmosphere of the place is really cute too. It has a homey quaint feel to it, yet also trendy, and it is in the perfect location in Highland Park. They also have a private lot free to customers. 86 Hair Studio has only been open for a few months - definitely check this place out and help give it some new customers! I moved to Highland Park a few months ago and was in desperate need of a haircut because it had been a year since my last cut and the Pocahontas look wasn't working for me. I did my usual research online and found this salon on Yelp. It also helped that they offered a voucher to be purchased online. I am a stay at home mom of 3...which includes a 3 month old baby. I had no choice but to bring my baby, since at the last minute, my husband was unable to watch her. I reluctantly brought her along. The only child care I have is well...me. I was really nervous about bringing her to the salon because I know how people can get when they hear a crying baby. I walked in and was happily greeted by Annette and Hannah. Annette cut my hair and did a fabulous job. She took her time cut just the right amount while still leaving a nice length to my hair. What impressed me the most was her understanding of my situation. A few times my baby cried a bit and Annette was so kind and asked if I wanted to care for her. She stopped what she was doing so that I could tend to her. She positioned me next to the stroller so that my daughter could have eye contact with me. Businesses like this that are understanding like this, get 5 stars in my book. read more

Coming from LA and moving to Highland Park I was a little concerned about finding a good stylist that would match my tatted yoga loving creative artist in LA. My hair is an asymmetrical bob (short on one side longer on the other). Happy to say that Hannah was exactly what I was looking for and did an amazing job! She was very detailed but also able to cut my hair without too much instruction. Also not overly chatty but talkative if you initiate with her. Didn't feel rushed at all during the cut, but then again my appointment was on a Thursday morning. Very happy with her work. I'll definitely be back. The owner has awesome reviews and I was very excited to schedule an appointment with her, but on her limited days at the salon she was totally booked for weeks ahead. Therefore she referred me to Dessy, the other stylist at 86 Hair Studio. My first appointment went great from the beginning to the end! It began with a free consultation in which Dessy and I discussed all of the concerns I had about my hair and looked up pictures online to find the style of my desire. She gave me natural sun kissed looking highlights and just the right amount of layers, and my hair felt shiny and healthy. I loved the fact that she used color instead of bleach, which has damaged my fine hair in the past. I had such a fantastic experience at 86 Hair Studio recently! I have gotten a keratin treatment before back in NC but paid several hundred dollars for it, and I wasn't too thrilled with the results. I have extremely difficult curly hair so I was skeptical about it actually working, but I kept hearing great things about it from a friend of mine - so I decided to give it another try. I figured a LivingSocial deal was the right way to try it again. I paid $132 for the treatment and a haircut and I'm SO pleased with the results! My hair is so much easier to care for now and shinier. My flat iron time has been cut in half! Hannah is excellent. Professional yet also very efficient. I'm so happy that I trusted the positive yelp reviews and found Hanna. I've had blond highlights for 10 years+ and wanted to try something darker. Hanna was very thorough in matching my darker underneath color and did a fantastic job keeping a few highlights while coloring the rest of my hair. She did a good job setting my expectations about how it might be slightly shocking and a lot darker than I was anticipating. I came here because on yelp it showed reasonable price for cut and color but when I went in it was definitely on the higher side. I called before to say I was getting color, highlight and cut and they said no problem, so I went in. Both of the girls were there, Hannah was already doing someones hair who looked like a regular and was doing a great job, she must be the leader here, I had Kelly who when doing my color, first off painted it straight onto her gloved hand, then proceeded to take the foil and crumple it around the colored pieces from the bottom up! I don't think she has ever colored before! good thing I was ok with her simplifying my color to just two highlighted pieces on either side! I should've known from the beginning when she had to ask Hannah what to do! to top it off she didnt even cover all the pieces I had that were still highlighted so Hannah had to tell her how to fix that last minute. It didn't turn out to be a complete disaster but the cut was also only mediocre. Not sure whats going on here but if they're going to have someone practice doing color, I should've been informed and definitely shouldn't be paying for it! I would be careful who you get an appointment with at this salon. read more

I booked my appointment online for a wedding up-do and wedding make-up. I then called the salon to confirm the appointment, and they told me everything was set up. The day before my wedding, I received a voicemail from Hanna saying that there had been a mistake, and that there was no one available to do my makeup. She apologized, offered an appointment at a different time, and said she hoped I was not the bride. When I called back, I informed her that I was indeed the bride, and asked her to please find a make-up artist for the appointment as scheduled. She insinuated that the problem was that I booked the appointment online. She was, miraculously, able to find a make-up artist at the last minute for my appointment. I emailed Hanna pictures to the address she gave me for what I had in mind for my hair, which she did not receive. My hair turned out beautiful, and my make-up turned out beautiful, and I could not have been happier with the results. But when it was time to pay, the bill was $50 more expensive than what was listed when I booked the appointment online. I didn't need the extra stress. If you're going to have an online booking system, at least make sure the prices are accurate. And please, PLEASE, don't let people book appointments that you can't actually provide. read more
