I've been going to Taylor Reese for many years. The vibe here is casual and friendly, but the services provided are high end. The salon has specialists for color or cut, and they can recommend someone if you have a particular need or challenge. They also offer skin care (Ellen) and brows as well as makeup (Foti). Both ladies are as delightful as they are talented. Mouna the owner is an absolute doll and her staff has had little turnover in all the years I've been going here - which speaks to a well run biz. Try Yulia for fabulous blond highlights, Yvonne or Vikki for a perfect cut. They also offer a great same day (wash your hair) keratin treatment that lasts for 3-4 months! read more

Not happy with the highlights I was given. I went back 10 days later for a correction and came out brassier and darker than before I walked in. She knew she screwed up because as soon as we rinsed my hair, it was darker and instead of apologizing or talking to me she just told the shampoo lady to put more products on my hair. read more

Only took me twelve years to find a great hair salon! But this is it. I recently switched to Mona (owner) for my color and love that it finally has the sheen that I expect when I get color and that it doesn't fade to orange. For my cuts I use Susan. She is fantastic. It always comes out just right! On a separate but not unimportant note, I brought my out of town daughter here the other day for a blow-dry before having her engagement photos taken. First I really appreciate that they were able to accommodate our early schedule (9:00am shoot). I explained that she had very long hair and would require extra time - no problem. Lishka was there on time (7:30 am) and ready to go. She did a fantastic job. Lot's of nice soft curls that she wanted. The photos came out great! Quarantine had my hair in a sad state of affairs! Bridgett colored my hair back to life! Not only did Bridgett supply at home coloring kits during quarantine - which kept my grays at bay, but she revived my hair to it's pre-Corona life- 10 times better!! For cut I saw Vicki, who not only freshened up my drab, long overdue quarantined hair, but she gave me a little styling 101 so I could confidently do my hair on my own. Covid 19 has upended life as we know it. Everyone's life has been forever changed. The new rules for social distancing and safety are new and can be confusing to those of us who are clients. Thankfully, and not surprisingly, Mouna, and the staff at Taylor Reese, have worked tirelessly to create the ULTIMATE SAFE ENVIRONMENT for both clients and staff. While I admit that I already completely love Taylor Reese, Mouna, and her warm, talented staff, I was unsure of what the new normal would look like in action. I am one of those people with a compromised immune system who has to be extra careful. Having been a client for more than 16 years, I trusted and knew that they would have it all figured out. Still, spoiler alert, I was blown away! When booking your appointment, you are given all the details you need about the experience you will receive. My mom, a senior who received services the same day, also felt safe and secure in their care. Upon entering, masks were required for clients and staff, my hands were sanitized, cloth robes were eliminated and replaced with disposable coverings, and I was led to one of the sterilized seats, away from others. Some seats were covered in plastic wrap to ensure people would not be sitting too close. Other furniture had been reconfigured to allow everyone to walk in one direction. The doors along the front of the salon were open which created a well-ventilated environment. Normally the salon is bustling and busy, especially on a Saturday, however; the salon was now operating with far less staff working and fewer clients scheduled. This allowed for more than the CDC and IDH required socially distanced space. Mouna worked her magic on my hair in a seat away from others. She and her crew were constantly cleaning and sterilizing surfaces, chairs, sinks, trays, hair instruments, and hands. All magazines had been removed. The shampoo area was manned with our favorite sisters, wearing full PPE - plastic gowns, masks, gloves, and face shields. While being washed, I was given a sterilized plastic face shield to hold, in front of my masked face, to further protect us both. I received the same safety standards and warmth while both my son and I got our hair cut and styled by the wonderful Liska. As I really looked around and took in the full view of the salon, I realized any apprehension I had felt about having my hair done was completely alleviated. It felt so good to be there, have my hair done, and feel human again. I know everyone has been quarantined here in Illinois for a long time. We are all in need of all kinds of services, yet feel apprehension. The reopening of our state means we all have to be smart and cautious. You can depend on Taylor Reese to continue to go above and beyond making you both gorgeous and safe. Such a long and disappointing story, but here is the short version: I paid $260 for horrible service, a balayage dye job my husband stated he could have done himself, and I left with soaking wet hair, because apparently a blow dry would have cost extra... for $260 I should have left looking like a million dollars, or at least with dry hair!! Instead, my stylist was late to start with me, barely spoke to me and acted like I had put him out by showing up to the appointment. Then I had to hunt him down mid appointment since he knowingly left me sitting in a chair for 20 minutes while he was blow drying some one else's hair, and the most shocking part was that he never came to check on my final hair color to make sure I was happy with it. He watched me pay and leave without even coming to look at his own work! I spoke with the manager, and after she told me she was surprised my hairstylist even had the time to dye my hair (which is not my problem the receptionist over-booked him. I made my appt 3 weeks in advance), she did offer to have me come in to fix my awful dye job. I am giving them 2 stars because at least she offered to fix it. I can't believe I paid $180 for basically a roots touch up. I came in with a specific idea in mind, and was quickly told that it was impossible... Okay, fine, I understand my color is in bad shape, but that's why I came to this salon! Color specialists, right? Anyway, as I said she basically just touched up my roots, and kind of sort of mitigated my grow out, though it's still pretty visible. Ultimately, the color is still the same washed out, over-processed blonde color that I came in looking to fix. So yeah, she matched my current color. The one I hated. Nice job.... So basically the way my appointment went was: Stylist greeted me, insulted my hair, didn't do anything close to what I wanted (as I said, somewhat forgivable, but disappointing), disappeared when she was done with the foil, and was never to be seen again. Didn't come see me to check the color after I was shampooed or blow dried (which, as other reviewers have stated, I had to do myself to avoid a $45 upcharge!). I was rung up by the shampooer (who was great, by the way) Very disappointing, and unbelievably overpriced. They get 2 stars instead of 1 because the shampooer was great, and because I can acknowledge that my hair does look better than it did when I came in.... though I'm not sure it could have gotten any worse anyway. read more

I am new to the North Shore and visited Taylor Reese twice off suggestion- once for a cut and then for color. The haircut was fine, except that I received curtain bangs, which I did not ask for- with my naturally curly hair, the bangs make the front of my head look like a handlebar mustache. When I went back for the color, I was not given a look book to choose a color, despite never getting color done here before, which surprised me. After shampooing, I found another client sitting in my seat. I was surprised when I asked my stylist where to go next that no blowout or styling was included! This made evaluating the color I received hard because my super dark brown hair looks the same shade when it's soaking wet, so I had to go home and let my hair dry to see that nothing was even touched up and my brassy roots were still visible. To end, gratuity is handled via putting cash in tiny envelopes and handing them either to the stylist directly or back to the front desk. Even though I had mentioned this was my first time in this salon, this etiquette was never described and I nearly left without tipping my stylist! If these things (style not included, hush tip money) are the protocol for these kinds of salons, that's fine, but I wish someone would have at least let me know these things instead of being so coy and letting me figure it out myself. read more

Yelena is the most fabulous colorist in the world! I know this sounds a bit over the top--but she is simply amazing. I have been going to her for years-- she always listens to me, but as a true artist makes her own suggestions too. She took my pandemic hair that was half dark, half blonde with an increasing amount of gray and turned it into the most beautiful, shiny, highlighted blonde. People literally stop me while I am sitting at a restaurant or other public place and complement my hair color. read more

Walked in with a picture of what I wanted (it was of me after a cut from a different hairdresser). I was completely disregarded about how my hair works. Rather than work with my natural curls, the guy chopped my hair in something that looked nothing like what I asked for. The result is a cut that is ugly, can't behave and won't hold it's style. Ugh. I did not know what to do -they were so dry and dead and of a stupid dirty color!! I went out being a happiest person ever-they totally changed the way I look. I got a make over! They made me a shorter and sharper heir cut, made my heir darker-I've never ever had this look before and was totally satisfied! Since then I am having my hair done every 5-6 month only here! I would strongly recommend Elena for coloring! She does the best job ever and the color really stays for a long time( I was blond and she made me chocolate-in half a year when i came back-I was still of the same color) She also makes highlights in a very special way-not too much, not a little-but just as much as you need for underlining your face! And she is just a nicest woman to be with for 1-2 hours and have a great conversation. For cuts I like Jenifer. She is very attentive. Does a great job- the fear that she will cut more then you want is just not for her seat. Suzy is a great one foe cuts as well! Very nice woman and a great person to give your heir too. I recently moved to highland park and decided to take a friends recommendation to switch to Taylor Reese salon for my hair color. I have been going to Maxine's on Rush for 6 years and have never once had a bad experience. The first time I went they started my appointment over 30 minutes late. Then the colorist pulls out a board to "have me decide what color I want." I was shuffled around twice to switch heat lamps and when I finished she takes me outside with a mirror and I still have visible gray hairs. She said she may not have left it on long enough and should come back. Now I have spent 2 hours of my day here only to have to go back to get this fixed. I would have never set foot back in this salon but I bought a hair extension that matched my color exactly and I have an important event coming up. When I arrived, I saw she had just started on someone else's hair. I asked he front desk how late she was running and they said "you can go ask her"- fantastic customer service. Once again, I started close to 30 minutes late. The front desk never told her I arrived and she thought I was a no show. Last but not least, I should have looked closer in the mirror because the shampoo girl left dye all over my forehead. Let's just say, I would rather walk downtown to my old salon than go back here. This is my first ever Yelp! Review and it is because I am SO disappointed in the service - both in the quality of service and customer service - I received at Taylor Reese in downtown highland park. Last week I received $110 that took the stylist LESS THAN 20 MINUTES and it was wrong so I had to come back. I was recommended product that made my hair frizz and they won't return it. In my entire life of haircuts this has never happened. The best part was when I asked to speak with a manager I was told there wasn't one. I guess that says it all. I have been going to Yulia and Jackie for about 4 years now. I gotta say, I am a total downtown snob. I had my haircut by Suzan. She advised me that my current hair style and color were aging me but she wouldn't tell my what to do about my hair other than to grow it long. She then cut my hair which grew out in less than 3 weeks. This was one of the most expensive cuts I have ever had ($90.00) and one of the worst. I called the salon a couple of months later because a friend had recommended Vicki a stylist at Taylor Reece. The receptionist was very short on the phone to the point of being rude. From the start I had complete confidence in Jackie. She is extremely thorough and I have never been disappointed. Previously it seemed it took me a few days or even a week to get used to my new cut, this has never been the case here. It looks great from the get-go and is easy to manage. She makes my fine hair look full. While I have not told my husband how much I pay for my haircut, it is well worth it in the quality of cut, how well the shape holds up and ease of styling.
