Feeling marvelous! I just got my hair and nails done by the owners, Laura and Anna and ran into friends who remarked how much younger I looked. I always get a great cut and highlights and manicure at Loran. They also have special pedicure stations with built in sanitizers. DO NOT GO HERE! This may be a bold statement to make, but let me tell you something about the owner. I had been coming in there for years, and she is always sitting at the front desk. Never, not ONCE, has she ever looked up and said hello to me, even when I said it to her first. While that may not seem like anything too drastic, the place has always been a complete dump. The countertops are always dust, the floors are never clean. Aside from the woman who used to cut my hair there, nobody was friendly. Seems like the owner set the tone for this. When you come to a place to get your haircut, your nails done (I don't get my nails done) or have any type of treatment, environment truly does make a difference, and this is a pretty negative one. There are plenty of places to go that are better than this one. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself at a place that treats you like a valued customer. read more

Completely Rude. Based on the couple positive reviews, I decided to give this place a call for an appointment. I have been a faithful customer of another salon for over 35 years, but thought I'd see if there was a better Salon to switch to. I asked a couple basic questions about the services offered, pricing, and appointment availability. The gentleman who answered the phone was cold and extremely abrupt - and then HUNG UP ON ME!! Anna did a great braided updo for me today. I have very long hair, and couldn't get it to stay up for me at work. I called Loran Salon at 2:30 and asked if they could accept a walk-in for an up-do. They said they could take me in 40 minutes. Biding my time with a delicious gelato at Arriva Dolce! in Highland Park, I returned to Loran Salon around 3:30. Anna was very accommodating to my indecisiveness/apathy about how I wanted my hair up (all I knew was, "please! please put it up! please make it stay up!"). She suggested braids, and after I confirmed, she rolled with it. She made polite conversation as she worked. I ended up with a really cute updo with a small braid on each side, mixing with straight hair...I look like a chic hippie milkmaid (which I am ALL ABOUT). In all, I was done in about an hour. I don't know the average price for an updo, but I paid $55, plus a $13 tip ($68 all day if you suck at math like me). A little 'spensive, yes. Was I in the mood to be extravagant to myself? Yes. Farzy is my stylist, and in all my years, my hair has never looked better. I have long straight blonde hair, Farzy gives me excellent highlights and perfect long layers. I don't know how the other stylists are; however, their clients always look good and appear to be repeat customers. Do not expect to be handed a cup of orange blossom infused organic tea in here, as this is not a chi chi place. It is; however, clean, very comfortable, and there's a friendly atmosphere where you feel like family, and prices are very fair. Doesn't deserve 1 star but had to pick to post. RUN do not walk away from this salon. I've tried it three times (usually my basis for deciding) and each time was worst than the last. The manicurist has been there forever and it shows in her technique. Harsh and old fashioned bordering on painful. Owner is unpleasant, rude and not at all interested in giving customer service, even going so far as to tell me "I don't care if you don't like it don't come here"! I was so pleased with my highlights that I had to write a review! I purchased a "wedeal" for Salon Lupo in Northbook and took my changes with a salon I had never been to before. I had driven by this salon before and thought it seemed nice enough. Anna was the stylists name I believe. She was not a huge talker and let me read my magazine most of the time. She did a fabulous job! I have blond hair and she matched it perfectly. She took her time studying the color by lifting up the underneath hair and really looking at the previous highlight job. She also really took her time with the foiling which I think so many people rush through. She matched up each highlight from the one before! Really taking time and precision. She seemed genuinely excited when the color turned out so nice. She came over to the shampoo bowl several times to check when they took out the foils. I will go back to her for sure. Not happy today after going here for almost a year and always charging on my Amex the owner said to me nope dnt take it I said since when I have used only Amex and she called me a liar I showed her in my app from my phone that I did it she said a mistake!!! She wouldn't budge I wrote a chk and wont be back!! Kind of sad because farzi who I do go too is amazing. I didn't like that she didn't believe me even when I showed her. She should of taken the card today and said going forward we dnt take Amex. I did look up and they say on there websites and other advertisements credit cards taken it does not say no Amex!
