The receptionist sets the tone for the whole business. It is an extremely important job. It is not easy. You are dealing with many personalities. A really good receptionist knows how to make a customer always want to come back. Here was my experience tonight. I am horrified. I called yesterday . I gave the salon more than 24 hours notice just as I was told to do. I spoke to a lovely receptionist. I explained to her that heavy storms were coming in with many warnings. I did not want to drive in this weather. They were predicting tornados, hail and heavy winds. She was absolutely lovely to talk to and understood. I also explained to her that I did not want to get a fee for rescheduling. She said she understood and would take care of it.She also told me to call in the morning and to let them know once I saw what the weather was like. I followed her advice and immediately called in the morning and rescheduled my appointment. No problem. At 6:30 tonight Gail called. (the other receptionist) as obnoxious as can be and told me that I did not follow the rules . She was going to place a fee on me.ii believe it was $25. She kept saying we talked about this and would not stop. I thought she was a broken record. Again ,I followed the rules. I did nothing wrong. I will tell you the right does not know what the left is doing . There is no communication between receptionists. This was a power trip with her and under no circumstances she was going to win. She was determined. That was obvious. Salons are customer service oriented. You have to be this way if you are going to keep customers. This is the way salons have been . They want the customer to be relaxed by their services. I don't know if Gail got off the wrong side of the bed or something was going on in her life. She sure took it out on me. I am not going to tolerate this behavior. Nobody should. I wonder if the owners know how she is treating customers. She cancelled my appointment because she said I did not follow the rules. At this point, I hung up on her. Nobody should ever be treated this way under any circumstances. It was horrifying to say the least. If you want to be abused by a receptionist then I recommend going here. I am just flabbergasted by the way I was treated. I am in this salon every month. I am not a walk in. read more

I am new to the area & needed to find a salon that could do my makeup for my baby shower. Sarah was so welcoming & asked how I wanted it, I said I want to look like myself just prettier! AKA natural. And wow she delivered :) :) And at the last minute I decided to add on lashes & that was no problem. I got tons of compliments. Of course I forgot to take pictures at the shower, but when someone sends them to me I will add them here. Cute salon too, front desk staff was very kind & the decor/vibe is so cute and comfortable. I had a customer service issue the first time I came here with one of the stylists and I was so pleased how Sarah, one of the owners, handled it. She brought me in to fix my hair cut to make it exactly how I wanted it and she apoligzed for my previous negative experience. The salon is beautiful and relaxing, and the hair washing station is very comfortable. It feels very luxurious and a great place to get a haircut. Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience at Lux. Starting with the good: the salon is beautiful, comfortable, and the staff was friendly. I met with the colorist for a full balayage and showed reference pictures of light brown balayage. My hair is naturally very dark-I'm well aware it can take multiple sessions to achieve a super light base color. However, the stylist assured me that the placement would still be what I wanted after one session, even if the color was slightly warmer. I asked the colorist how many rounds of bleaching we'd need-as all of my other salon experiences did at least two processes-and he said just one because we "couldn't keep me here all day." After my hair was finished processing, an assistant took all the foils out in the bowl and began washing and applying toner. The colorist did not check the result of each foil before toner was added. This is important because my hair bleached completely unevenly! Some strands closer to my neck were platinum blonde while areas on top were brassy orange. I was surprised that the colorist did not check this and touch up any areas that did not lighten evenly. My end result was chunky, brassy, asymmetrical highlights that could not have been more different from the reference photo I showed and looked nothing like typical balayage-style. It seemed that the colorist just did a quick highlight service, rather than actually catering the process to the look I requested and paid for. I called the salon to get this fixed and, after the owner requested photos, they obliged. Lowlights were added and my hair was re-toned, however, this did not fix the fact that some areas bleached to completely different levels nor did it fix the placement. At one point, I asked the colorist to add more lowlights to an area I felt still looked 'chunky' and he declined. It does not look much different than it did pre-fix. The owner seemed genuinely concerned and checked in with me during my correction. However, it wasn't worth complaining again because fixing this would require way more than lowlights and a re-tone and I did not want anything more to be done at this salon. I spent close to $300, haven't worn my hair down since that day because of how bad it looks, and now have an upcoming appointment at a different salon to get it fixed. ***Update: The owner being so defensive in her responses to any negative reviews is a huge red flag and super unprofessional. It seems incredibly petty to go back and forth with he said/she said (like she's done to other reviewers)-but her lying about a simple thing like me saying to her 'I'd be back soon' is very, very strange when that simply did not occur. Upon leaving the second time I did not exchange words with her other than a head nod as she was with another client. Clearly the owner does not accept criticism well and I am glad I did not come in a third time as she certainly creates a hostile environment for those who are unhappy with their results. Overall, very weird to see how reactively and immaturely the business owner responds to comments. Yikes. read more

I went to Lux Salon for the first time because of the great reviews- I am quite disappointed. I went in yesterday for a blonde balayage and this morning my scalp hurts. I walked out yesterday with a huge headache and thought it was from the lack of sugar but now I think its due to the treatment to my head. I had an appt with Sarah (co-owner) at 1pm and while at first I felt comfortable that quickly dissipated. 95% of the time she talked with the client and stylist next door. Had she forgotten she had a client in her chair? Every so often, while dying my hair, she would check her wrist watch and yawn. Was she bored? Uninterested? Was it because I wasn't a friend? At the wash station with toner, it seemed she kept me there for what seemed a very long time. So long even the other co-owner (Margo) stepped in to check on my hair. Sarah finally returned to save my hair and that was the last time I saw her (at the sink, when she washed my toner out) . She gave me to another stylist to dry me, finish me off and see if I liked my hair. However, while the new stylist washed her hands and got ready to work on me, the other owner (Margo) stepped in again and briskly and very harshly and very rushed, brushed my hair out from the knots and teasing from the balayage. She didn't put any product on my hair before she started brushing to help with the detangling. Isn't hair the most fragile after coloring and is wet? Aren't you supposed to brush hair from the ends first and work your way up? I've never mistreated my hair so much they way she did yesterday. The stylist who was supposed to brush me was surprised to find Margo already very rushed working on me. Margo told the other stylist she was brushing me because she takes too long when she brushes people. The stylist quickly defended herself saying she brushes gently and carefully to not harm the hair and so that is why she typically takes longer. YES! I am not sure why I let Margo keep destroying my hair I should've stopped her or asked to brush it out myself or asked if the other stylist could brush me (or honestly just ran out of the salon at that very moment!) My scalped, hair and head were being pulled exaggeratedly hard. Chunks of hair were collecting on the brush and falling off. I found loose hairs on my shirt, car, and even on my arm. The icing on the cake was I thought they would somewhat dry me off so I could see the color as well as my original hairstylist to see her job. Nope, the intention was to only dry my front strands and leave the rest of my hair wet. To my surprise the stylist (not my original stylist) asked if I wanted to blow dry the back of my own hair. What?!?! I told her I would pay the extra money for her to blow dry my hair- I really wanted to see my new color. I wanted to ask how to take care of my hair, products to use, when to come back, etc, yet I couldn't because it was true chaos. At the end, I am not happy with the color but what really is disappointing is the service. It is ridiculously expensive. For the type of service, treatment of hair and result, it is not worth it. You can easily find another salon in the area or city that will treat and do a better job. Save your hair. Go somewhere else. ******This response from the salon makes me very sad and I am very sad to write this review. I am sorry you have reacted this way. My intention is not to get into an argument with the salon itself or anyone individually but to make other people aware, like myself, that go through reviews and do research. My hair is my top priority and I value great service. As I should. I cannot put my hair up in a pony tail because my scalp is throbbing!! I could easily put ice on- no idea that was possible. Looking back, I'm mad I didn't say something or stop the harsh and brutal brushing, I could hear my hair being ripped. That was my fault for not saying anything. There are a lot of things false in your response. I find it a little ridiculous to go through- and have a she said/this/that (this is what really happened) match so I'm not going to continue. They clearly don't have time for new clients or care for new clients. OR don't value the importance of good customer service. What a disappointment because location is perfect and the interior decor and branding is sharp. If it's your first time, go somewhere else. Save your hair. I love this salon! Great relaxed atmosphere. Very good customer service. Margo is fantastic and very talented. She always knows the latest styles and her coloring is magic. I would never go anywhere else for color. She takes time to listen to what your vision is and gives honest feedback and suggestions. If I could give a million stars for LUX Salon I would! I followed Margo from Andreas Hogue Salon to her new salon. She has done my hair for multiple occasions - baby shower and wedding. Both were amazing up-do formal styles. She has also done my regular cut and color for multiple years. I am thrilled to have someone who can make me look amazing every time. The salon has great energy and a wonder design, is super clean, and has a great location with tons of parking. Everyone is very professional and I feel well taken care of. Very easy to get an appointment over the phone or online. I also love that Margo will take tips through Venmo, I never have to run to the bank to get cash before my appointment. I'm not going to lie, I put very little effort into my hair usually, but after 2 years it was time! I've lived in Northbrook for 3 years and had not bothered to find a new stylist. I took a recommendation off of my local Moms page and I'm glad I did. I walked in and Sarah put me at ease and took control. This was the worst experience I had in a salon. I hate what they did, now I have to find somebody to fix my hair... looks awful. Also, the girl that worked on my hair, Rachel, in addition to not being good at what she is doing, she was very rude. The small conversation we had I mentioned that in my country the winters are not as bad as here and her response was: Why are you here then? I've never had a better stylist than Eunice!!! She gets me. I'm extremely picky about my hair..everything from cut to color and she gets it right every time. I have a lot of ideas about what I want (cool blond lob??) and sometimes I need someone to bring me back to reality (I'm a long hair warm). I truly appreciate her honesty and input! I was referred to the Lux Salon by a friend, I was skeptical at first since I have been going to the same hair dresser for years. I decided to give it a go, unfortunately there was a miscommunication on my part and I wouldn't be able to get my hair done on the selected date. I was bummed out, but to my luck and surprise they were able to work something out for me, they went out of their way. That was the first good sign. As soon as I walked in, I felt out of place, a little self concious. My first thought: This girls have amazing hair!! They all looked great! I felt like I was in one of those tv commercials...They were so nice and welcoming. I felt great! All of that self conscious stuff went away. Eunice did my hair and haircut, and I have never been in so much love with my hair as I am today. The balayage is awesome!! She was so nice and made me feel so cared for. She is a great gal!!
