    Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience at Lux. Starting with the good: the salon is beautiful, comfortable, and the staff was friendly. I met with the colorist for a full balayage and showed reference pictures of light brown balayage. My hair is naturally very dark-I'm well aware it can take multiple sessions to achieve a super light base color. However, the stylist assured me that the placement would still be what I wanted after one session, even if the color was slightly warmer. I asked the colorist how many rounds of bleaching we'd need-as all of my other salon experiences did at least two processes-and he said just one because we "couldn't keep me here all day." After my hair was finished processing, an assistant took all the foils out in the bowl and began washing and applying toner. The colorist did not check the result of each foil before toner was added. This is important because my hair bleached completely unevenly! Some strands closer to my neck were platinum blonde while areas on top were brassy orange. I was surprised that the colorist did not check this and touch up any areas that did not lighten evenly. My end result was chunky, brassy, asymmetrical highlights that could not have been more different from the reference photo I showed and looked nothing like typical balayage-style. It seemed that the colorist just did a quick highlight service, rather than actually catering the process to the look I requested and paid for. I called the salon to get this fixed and, after the owner requested photos, they obliged. Lowlights were added and my hair was re-toned, however, this did not fix the fact that some areas bleached to completely different levels nor did it fix the placement. At one point, I asked the colorist to add more lowlights to an area I felt still looked 'chunky' and he declined. It does not look much different than it did pre-fix. The owner seemed genuinely concerned and checked in with me during my correction. However, it wasn't worth complaining again because fixing this would require way more than lowlights and a re-tone and I did not want anything more to be done at this salon. I spent close to $300, haven't worn my hair down since that day because of how bad it looks, and now have an upcoming appointment at a different salon to get it fixed. ***Update: The owner being so defensive in her responses to any negative reviews is a huge red flag and super unprofessional. It seems incredibly petty to go back and forth with he said/she said (like she's done to other reviewers)-but her lying about a simple thing like me saying to her 'I'd be back soon' is very, very strange when that simply did not occur. Upon leaving the second time I did not exchange words with her other than a head nod as she was with another client. Clearly the owner does not accept criticism well and I am glad I did not come in a third time as she certainly creates a hostile environment for those who are unhappy with their results. Overall, very weird to see how reactively and immaturely the business owner responds to comments. Yikes.

    I love this salon! Great relaxed atmosphere. Very good customer service. Margo is fantastic and very talented. She always knows the latest styles and her coloring is magic. I would never go anywhere else for color. She takes time to listen to what your vision is and gives honest feedback and suggestions. I would encourage anyone to put your trust in Lux and give them a shot. They were also great with my daughter. Patient and understanding of a teenage girl's hair needs and gave her a cut she was very happy with.

She was booked when I reached out, but then the week of let me know she had a cancellation and could take her - whoo hoo! The entire process took 4.5 hours, which is long, but crazy enough less than the 5+ hours we usually spend doing this treatment. Jasmine herself was was super friendly and confident that my daughters hair would be better than ever with this treatment. I was hopeful, but skeptical. She got to work right away with a few assistants helping with the process. When I picked up my daughter I was shocked how straight and smooth her hair was after just running a blow dryer thru it for a few minutes. My daughter was thrilled, although she hoped it would be a little wavy after braids since she doesn't like it perfectly straight. She took off for camp the next day, but the only letter I've gotten in the mail is (no joke) "my hair is totally straight." And based on the camp pictures I've been amazed by how well it took to her hair. It looks a little wavy at the ends and I'm guessing she's likely sleeping in braids to get it to curl a bit. We usually have to do this treatment every 5 months. Jasmine thought every 6-12 months, but our roots grow in so curly that I'd be shocked if we could go that long. I'm also interested in trying Jasmine for the magic sleek, but she thought other treatments would be better for my blonde (highlighted) hair like the keratin express. It's tough to please a 13 year old when it comes to hair (and other things), but I think Jasmine did it!

Fortunately, Nikki, who seems to do the makeup for the majority of North Shore mitzvahs had availabilty. We had a test run for my daughter's photo shoot back in July and my daughter was absolutely thrilled with the results. She's jumped on the makeup and skincare bandwagon the past year so she was so excited to get her makeup done for the first time...and Nikki did a beautiful job. Months later Nikki showed up at my house for our big weekend. She did 5 of us for pictures and then came back the next day for the big party. When I realized I had a ton of family who wanted their makeup done in a short amount of time I asked Nikki if she had anyone else who could accompany her. She brought along another freelance makeup artist, Christine Putrell, who was so fabulous. They make a good team and everyone loved their makeup. I would definitely use Nikki (and Christine!) for my makeup needs again in the future. In fact, I plan to for my son's bar mitzvah and once again will call way ahead.

Cynde took me about fifteen minutes late for my appointment, which I really didn't mind, especially because she ran well over the one hour time slot making sure she went over different looks and perfecting my makeover. While she has her own makeup line available for sale, I explained my current financial situation and she didn't pressure me to buy anything, which was much appreciated. I did buy a couple things (it was my birthday after all) and I love her cream eyeshadow that I use as a base to keep powder shadow put, a lip pumice, and a lip gloss - all of which I love. While I am sure there are other places where you can do something like this, I have yet to come across them. I was planning on watching a couple Youtube videos to get some new ideas, but it was so much more fun to have a lesson custom for your face and color palate. I will definitely be back for a few other things once I have some spare cash. BONUS: When my boyfriend saw me later that night, he thought I looked like a total babe. Nice!

    I went in for a haircut. I can't go to a regular salon anywhere. I need to go where they have cut…read moreasian hair before... especially thick wavy hair with a mind of its own. I was cautious at first since I've gone to a korean hair salon and paid $75 for a haircut only to look like a christmas tree in the middle of July (needless to say it was in a bun all year long until it grew out) There was only one guy to take care of me and my two friends. We each wanted something different done. I wanted a haircut, one friend wanted a perm and another wanted her hair dyed. I was the last to be done but it didn't wear this hairstylist a bit. He took time to cut each of my layers and checked over and over to see the "flow" of my natural waves. He cut more of my bangs then before and ive received so much more compliments than before. All i did was get a haircut but i felt like a new person! He was great! I wish i couldve asked for his name. He wears glasses and has a mustache? He is the person to go to!

    I have no idea what happened to my review so here it is again…read more The receptionist sets the tone for the whole business. It is an extremely important job. It is not easy. You are dealing with many personalities. A really good receptionist knows how to make a customer always want to come back. Here is my experience tonight. I am horrified. I called yesterday. I gave the salon more than 24 hours notice just as I was told to do. I spoke to a lovely receptionist. I explained to her that heavy storms were coming in with many warnings. I did not want to drive in this weather. They were predicting tornados, hail and heavy winds. She was absolutely lovely to talk to and understood. I also explained to her that I did not want to get a fee for rescheduling. She said she understood and would take care of it. She also told me to call in the morning and let them know once I saw what the weather was like. I followed her advice and immediately called in the morning. I rescheduled my appointment. No problem, At 6:30 tonight Gail called (the other receptionist.) as obnoxious as can be and told me I did not follow the rules. She was going to place a fee on me. I believe it was $25. She kept saying we talked about this and would not stop. I honestly thought she was a broken record. I followed the rules. I did nothing wrong. I will tell you the right does not know what the left is doing. There is no communication between receptionists. This was a power trip and under no circumstances she was going to win. She was determined. That was obvious. Salons are customer service oriented. You have to be this way if you are going to keep your customers. They want the customers to be relaxed by their services. I don't know if Gail got off the wrong side of the bed or if something was going on in her life. She sure took it out on me. I am not going to tolerate this behavior. Nobody should. I wonder if the owners know how she is treating the customers. She cancelled my appointment because she said I did not follow the rules. At this point, I hung up on her. Nobody should ever be treated this way under any circumstances. It was horrifying to say the least. If you want to be abused by a receptionist then I would recommend going here. I am just flabbergasted by the way I was treated. I am in the salon every month. I am not a walk in. I am also surprised that neither of the owners reached out to me. This says it all!
