I have no idea what happened to my review so here it is again. The receptionist sets the tone for the whole business. It is an extremely important job. It is not easy. You are dealing with many personalities. A really good receptionist knows how to make a customer always want to come back. Here is my experience tonight. I am horrified. I called yesterday. I gave the salon more than 24 hours notice just as I was told to do. I spoke to a lovely receptionist. I explained to her that heavy storms were coming in with many warnings. I did not want to drive in this weather. They were predicting tornados, hail and heavy winds. She was absolutely lovely to talk to and understood. I also explained to her that I did not want to get a fee for rescheduling. She said she understood and would take care of it. She also told me to call in the morning and let them know once I saw what the weather was like. I followed her advice and immediately called in the morning. I rescheduled my appointment. No problem, At 6:30 tonight Gail called (the other receptionist.) as obnoxious as can be and told me I did not follow the rules. She was going to place a fee on me. I believe it was $25. She kept saying we talked about this and would not stop. I honestly thought she was a broken record. I followed the rules. I did nothing wrong. I will tell you the right does not know what the left is doing. There is no communication between receptionists. This was a power trip and under no circumstances she was going to win. She was determined. That was obvious. Salons are customer service oriented. You have to be this way if you are going to keep your customers. They want the customers to be relaxed by their services. I don't know if Gail got off the wrong side of the bed or if something was going on in her life. She sure took it out on me. I am not going to tolerate this behavior. Nobody should. I wonder if the owners know how she is treating the customers. She cancelled my appointment because she said I did not follow the rules. At this point, I hung up on her. Nobody should ever be treated this way under any circumstances. It was horrifying to say the least. If you want to be abused by a receptionist then I would recommend going here. I am just flabbergasted by the way I was treated. I am in the salon every month. I am not a walk in. I am also surprised that neither of the owners reached out to me. This says it all! read more

Brought my son in for a re-perm but was told by Tom that his hair had quite a bit of damage and that he wouldn't recommend a perm at this time. We decided to get his haircut anyways and we're extremely happy with the results. We also appreciated the fact that Tom took his time to go over my sons hair and explained to us his reasoning for not wanting to do a perm. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place that actually cares about your hair! read more

The stylist Serena K. was very rough with my hair, on the cutting curtain there was still hair from the previous haircut and my freshly washed hair was picking up all the cut pieces of hair, the brush they used was not hygenic and the kind of brush that collects dust and hair from previous use. Immediately after the wash and as she was drying my hair, I decided I did not trust this establishment or stylist with my hair and decided to pay for the wash and dry ($20) and just leave. I would not recommend this place from a cleanliness and professional standpoint. read more

My friend recommended me this place and I went in for straight perm, and had the best experience with Ellie, my stylist. Made my appointment last second and she squeezed me into her schedule. She knew what I've done to my hair before by looking at it since it was so damaged and recommended me what I should do to make my hair looks and feel better. I am 10000% satisfied how it turned out. I went in for a haircut. I can't go to a regular salon anywhere. I need to go where they have cut asian hair before... especially thick wavy hair with a mind of its own. I was cautious at first since I've gone to a korean hair salon and paid $75 for a haircut only to look like a christmas tree in the middle of July (needless to say it was in a bun all year long until it grew out) There was only one guy to take care of me and my two friends. We each wanted something different done. I wanted a haircut, one friend wanted a perm and another wanted her hair dyed. I was the last to be done but it didn't wear this hairstylist a bit. He took time to cut each of my layers and checked over and over to see the "flow" of my natural waves. He cut more of my bangs then before and ive received so much more compliments than before. I love Lux. I love the location, I love their service, I love their expert advice, and today, I gained a new appreciation for this salon as I started taking my daughter here for her haircuts. Everyone at Lux was so kind and friendly to my almost 3 year old, daughter and made her feel so comfortable. Leo was able to replicate the photo I brought in for my daughter and because I have been a long time customer and it was my daughter's first hair cut with him, he didn't charge us a thing! (This review is not in place of free service by any means.) My sis in law, my mother in law, and my mom see Leo. He is very attentive to our requests and is very patient with us. When we are in his seat for more than a quick haircut, he goes over and beyond the free beverage and often treats us to baked goods from the local bakery. I went here for wedding hair & makeup for my friend's wedding a couple weeks ago. Their makeup artist Tiffany does amazing natural makeup for weddings. She's highly recommended if that's the look you are going for. Their hair guy was beyond fantastic! I brought in a picture of a Taylor Swift updo and he was able to mimic it perfectly with my hair. It looked just fantastic and I was so pleased with the results. BACKSTORY Brought my cousin here because of good reviews... and the fact that its hardcore Korean... something that will make my teenage cousin comfy when getting a much needed trim to her elbow length virgin hair... and the fact that its pretty close to her home is a bonus. Its modern and chic for a hair salon.. Might try the Other services too. HAIR So the stylist Sue seemed to have a clue which Is expected with simple hair requests like this one. . .turned out well. PEDICURE Wait seemed a little long but & was enjoyIng the strong massage chair, if not the stuffy closet where the lone nail station is situated... in the middle/back of the building. Service was decent but not stellar... she cut too much from the sides of my big toenails, when I had asked to just check for ingrown... resulting in what looked like unevenly shaped (I had specified to aim for a rounded SQUARE shape to all my nails) ... definitely not the TRAPEZOID / \ deal I got... P.S. Noticed it smudge/nicked on one toe, even though I wore flip flops for at least 4 hours after I left the salon. BAD NAILS... so MINUS a Star. Booooooo P.P.S. FRONT DESK... they are typically (sorry Koreans) not very good service-wise. Cases in point: 1. LOST CREDIT CARD I found a credit card on the counter. I pointed it out to the desk person that was ringing me up.... she placed it on the desk at her level. I asked my aunt - on a hunch, if she had left her card at the counter (the card was from a Korean-ey looking named or bank... ) IT WAS HERS. She had forgotten it b/c she was trying to tip my cousin's stylist in cash. *** The desk person hadn't even asked if anyone had left the card. ** 2) APPOINTMENTS Guy walked in... was told to sit in chair for haircut. I don't think the verified his ID with name or anything... turns out, 2 minutes later,,, the guy that actually HAD the APPT was like... WTF? First guy gets booted from the chair. He had just walked in, and had to then be told he had to wait 30 min. They had though he WAS the appointment person. GEEZ. What a Shakespearean farce. Hair and make-up was one of my top priorities for our wedding in August 2014. I wanted my hair to be elegant and graceful, while my make-up subtle and glowing. I've had the worst haircut experience ever with Leo. The hair stylist, Leo, cut my hair too short and looks weird. I wanted a trim for my bangs and upper hair but he did cut it too short and now my hair is uneven. That's not all... when I paid for the haircut, he argued that my tip isn't a non-round number. I tipped $3.75 (15% service fee) but he said "We do not accept non-round tip" and asked me to tip either $3 or $4. Also he said to me "Do you usually tip like this? Don't do this again elsewhere." He was so rude and made me so annoyed. I've never seen such a rude person like him ever. Never go this place unless you want to waste your money and ruin your day. read more

Just had a wedding trial run with Tiffany and a hair stylist. I asked for natural look for makeup and showed her some ideas from Pinterest, and she did an amazing job!! My face felt caked since I normally don't wear makeup, but she assured it needs to be a little heavy, or the makeup won't show in the photos. I've gotten lots of compliments from friends and family. I am from out of town but was visiting family and needed a haircut badly. So glad I did because I got the best haircut ever here. I am Korean American and usually try to get my hair cut at Korean salons. My Korean is subpar but I always bring pictures and they did a great job. First, the salon felt very safe and clean following all COVID precautions. The salon was clean, everyone was wearing a mask, and my temp was checked. They also take down your name and number just in case contact tracing is needed. Ellie cut my hair and she had great technique and got my asymmetrical bob exactly how I wanted. Will definitely be back whenever I am in town. Overall, I would highly recommend this salon. read more

I was sitting, getting my hair done for three hours, and I heard so much gossip and rumors of other people, even people I happened to know personally....by a new stylist, Sun-ah. (Aka Sue. You are like in your forties.....you need to grow up). She also did a terrible job on my hair cut....as she gave me layers I clearly did not want, cutting away all my perm to give me a big poofy top and lean bottom...(what is this....the sixties????). She gave me terrible advice on how to manage my hair...and now I cannot dry or style my hair without getting a big Korean afro........ Two thumbs up! I went in to get my eyebrows and eyeliner done. It was my first time to get eyeliner done and I must say that I am very very happy. Life is so much more easy now, especially with a toddler, time is precious. I highly recommend Tiffany. She was very polite and professional from the start to the end. I emphasized that I wanted it to look "natural" as possible. So she made the eyeliner a little too thin and I ended up getting two additional touch up sessions. Usually only one touch up session is included but she gave me an additional one because I wanted to thicken up my eyeliner. And I have to say that I am very happy with the results. read more

I haven't had much luck with stylists before I met her, so wherever Jinnie goes, I go. I trust and respect her honest opinion and she treats you like you're family. When I found out she started at Lux Salon, I set an appointment to get a wave perm. I felt comfortable immediately after walking in for my appointment. The stylists are so welcoming and nice and the salon is very clean and organized. It's very beautiful and modern, the ambiance is fantastic. Mr. Jung is one of the best hairstylists I've ever had. I've followed him around from salon to salon and I have a hard time getting my hair cut by anyone else! There was a period of time when he switched salons and I couldn't find him.... it was a difficult time in my life... not knowing if I would ever get an awesome hair cut again... but alas! He is at Lux salon and hopefully staying here for awhile. Lux salon in itself is very clean and modern. All the workers I've encountered at Lux have been super nice! The majority is korean, however, there are some workers who are able to speak english. I would say most of them understand English pretty well. Going back to Mr. Jung, while he does speak minimal English, he understands enough. What I love most about him is that he is completely honest. For example, my friend was interested in having a straight perm, however, expensive as it is, he said it would be too damaging for her hair and suggested not to do it. When it comes to styling, Mr. Jung knows how to cut/style/perm a person's hair according to the shape of a person's face. After my friend had gotten an awesome perm by him, I wanted to get a similar perm for myself. When I went in to get it done, he suggested a looser wave because of my face shape - and it turned out great! The last time I got my hair cut by him, he gave me tips on how to prevent dandruff and breakage. No matter how thick, thin or damaged your hair, he would know the best way to treat it. He would never do anything that would further damage your hair! Get your hair done by Mr. Jung, he's the best in my book :) Just as a heads up, if you go to Lux, they only accept tips in cash. read more

I went in for a hairstyle for a wedding. I had no idea what I wanted and ask my hairstylist, Min-ah, to do whatever she saw fit. I was very pleased! I got so many compliments on my hair. I have a short bob hairstyle and Thought it be hard to do something nice but I was mistaken. She did a great job! Not only that, she adjusted my hair to the rainy weather and added some pins to compliment the style. When we were finished it was heavily raining outside. LUX Salon is the best place to go to for a haircut! The ambiance is fantastic, you will feel at ease just from walking in. The staff is very welcoming and they sometimes offer you a drink at no charge. The only reason I took off a star was because it's a little expensive (my haircut is $25 + $5 tip). However, I've never had one bad haircut here. Many of the other places I've been to are hit-or-miss, but at LUX, you definitely get what you pay for. P.S. I highly recommend Chelsea. She's actually the reason I started going to LUX because I knew her before, though I would imagine the other stylists are great too. read more

My first visit to have my hair cut and styled was with Jay. His abilities with scissors (sometimes holding two in one hand!) is remarkable. He pays attention to detail and checks and re-checks for length, thickness, and style-line. i have extremely thick heavy and somewhat coarse hair with some natural wave and do not have classic Asian hair. (am not Asian). This was the best haircut I have ever received and I have had my hair cut and styled all over the world. I visited my cousin in Chicago and she took me to her favorite hair salon, Lux in Glenview. I love it, love it, love it !!!! Very chic interior, very friendly staffs. Most of all, I loved my new eyebrows, eyeliner and hair style !!! I had semi-permenant eyebrows and eyeliner done for the first time. I was hesitated a bit because it might look fake or awkward. But Tiffany Hur did an awesome job. I'm 200% satisfied. Before, I had to draw my eyebrows every single day. But not anymore!! I even go to work with no make up on. They look totally natural. Nobody did not recognize I had semi-permanent eyebrow treatment. My husband didn't even notice. I don't look like Mona Lisa after getting out shower or work out or when I wake up in the morning. They say it would last about 4 years. Definitely, I would visit in Chicago and get that done again by Tiffany after 4 years. She's amazing!! And I got my hair straighten. Lux uses good quality products, so there was no damage on my hairs. I got my hair done by Jina. She was very friendly and did an awesome job. I would love to get hair done next time by her. I had a horrendous experience. I was looking into salons in the area to get a haircut and style. I read the good reviews on yelp so I decided to go with Jay. I made an appointment in advanced. Upon arriving there we were not greeted by Jay at all, but it looked like he just started doing someone's hair 10 minutes prior. The receptionist seemed confused that we made an appointment, she told us Jay just started the client and we would have to wait 40 minutes. We said ok and sat down. After about 5 minutes the receptionist walked up and asks if she could do my hair. Um... No I didn't come to a salon to be experimented on, I told her I would wait for him to be finished. Five minutes later another woman comes up and says she could start my process. I asked her what she was talking about... I came in for a trim not a process. She looked confused and another hair stylist had to translate what I just told her. Five more minutes passed and the same receptionist came up to us and said sorry Jay had an emergency and could not do my hair. This is all happened while we sat directly across from him as he continued to cut the other girls hair. I think there wasn't an emergency, they just don't want us as clients, there was clear discrimination going on since we we not greeted, nor were we called to cancel the appointment if he truly could not take us that day. They do not honor appointments, didn't understand what I came to the salon for, and didn't have the decency to call ahead of time so I wouldn't take time off of work and could make an appointment at a more respectable salon. If I knew this salon was so terrible I would have gone elsewhere to get my hair done for an important event. I don't know how they do hair here but if it's as horrible as the customer service then I can't imagine them staying in business very long. I would give 0 stars if I could. read more

Jean nailed it! I was so scared- I walked into Lux with a request for serious color correction from a spotty bleach job. Jean actually took the time to assess the situation and analyze my hair's condition and produced a radiant and even blonde with no breakage. Instead of throwing me under a dryer like most salons they used steam and it did wonders for my hair! I got bleached 2 days in a row and walked out of there with shiny hair that bounced. Mr. C. Jung is the best hairstylist ever! I've been going to him for the past 2 years and he always does a tremendous job. He'll tell you if the hair style you have in mind will go with your hair type and if it enhances your looks. He is honest with you. I've had perms and cuts by him. My perm is complimented on by my family, friends, and coworkers alike. So are my haircuts. I haven't colored my hair yet, but Mr. Jung advised against it because my hair needs to be in better condition. He's had years of experience working on the hair styles of singers and actors in South Korea. Now he brings that experience to Chicagoland. Just an update after my wedding, Tiffany and Jae did an amazing job onsite at my wedding hotel. Everything turned out even better than the trial! All of my bridesmaids and mom and mother in-law loved their hair and make up. They got so many compliments throughout the day. They also did false lashes (for your bridesmaids and moms) as well as updos without an additional charge! All I can say is that Jacob is probably the most skilled hair stylist I have ever been to. On my first visit, he very quickly understood my style. Initially I was hesitant going to a Korean salon for fear that there may be a language barrier, but that is not the case with Jacob. Jacob is a hidden gem in the north suburbs.
