First I want to say that this is probably my 4th visit here for a haircut & blowout and they are usually pretty good, at least 4 stars but this visit was bad My bangs were cut so so short and badly that it looks like I did it myself and messed it up completely. I specifically asked for my bangs to be below my eyebrows and she made a rookie mistake of cutting it at my eyebrows when wet. Anyone with bangs know that once dry, it gets a bit shorter. plus she didn't cut it evenly or symmetrically. In the attached pictures, one is a picture of the bangs I showed the stylist (of the bangs I wanted), the one that looks very short is the bangs I left with right after (she styled it with a round brush and dryer), and the third one is the next day after I washed my hair and combed it down- you can see it's not even straight or symmetrical.. thankfully this will grow out in about 3-4 weeks but it's devastating with the holiday season, Christmas is in a few days and New Years next week with lots celebrations and my hair will look like I cut and messed up my own bangs. the rest of my hair was decently cut - though when looking at it, it's hard for the eyes not to go to the bangs that were so obviously messed up. I would have been understanding if they told me they gave me a junior or student stylist and I wish she would have just told me she isn't comfortable cutting bangs as it would have been better if she just left it alone. read more

Broke my Solano Dryer and come to find out they are only place to repair Solano and you can purchase them as well there. 5 stars to this salon owner for making me the happiest person in the world today. if your looking for a great product this definitely worth your money. My whole experience here was friendly, professional and welcoming. I came to try this hair salon through a groupon and got a wash, haircut and blowout for $30. The shampoo that they used smelled really nice too and you get a head massage during the wash. Brentley made sure to check with me before starting to cut my hair and double checked the style I wanted as well. When I was checking out, they didn't ask if I wanted to leave a tip for my stylist so I thought it was included in the Groupon price. Mariana for the win! I came here for an hour and a half deep tissue massage, and left doing the jello walk. I checked in at the front desk, and then went downstairs to the chill spa area. Mariana welcomed me, asked what I'd like her to work on, and did exactly that! She checked to see if the pressure was okay, spent extra time where I asked, and still hit every body part. I just took my 14 year-old son to Tessie Kossof for a haircut. Dylan was the stylist who cut my son's hair. He is fairly new to the salon, however he has been cutting hair for a long time. Dylan took the time to listen to what my son wanted. My son said not only did Dylan listen to him about his hair, but he talked to him like a friend/ peer. Lisa told me that this coupon you must use it twice, each time $ 15 off. I told her it's not said any thing like that in the coupon. This was a longer review than I planned. (Executive brief, I was a satisfied client until I wasn't, received substandard service and quality at North Shore prices, now I'm getting SMS spam to come back) I really don't like writing one-star reviews on Yelp, but even in the best of economic times, the smart-money doesn't like wasting money. I've avoided writing this review for some six odd years because at best I only spent around $40+ plus a tip to a hairstylist every six weeks or so for about two years and figured Teddie Kossof could afford to lose my business up in Northfield Illinois. The main reason why I am writing this review is likely because I suspect Alan Kossof is not getting the business he once had from word of mouth advertising. Word of mouth advertising works both ways, when people love a product or service, they are happy to share this with their friends, family and business associates. It works the same way with negative reviews too. Six years since I last graced the front door of this salon and vowed to never come here again in late 2019 I start getting unsolicited SMS spam from Teddie Kossof to my personal cellphone number. I don't recall ever giving Teddie Kossof Salon permission to send me with SMS messages and as a security professional I know to not unsubscribe from SMS or email spam from companies without a well-declared advertising policy as that will confirm to their 3rd party email or SMS spamming company there is a live number or email address and spam even more junk to my phone or computer. What scares me more but thankfully mine is long expired, is if Teddie Kossof along with retaining my name and my phone number is also retaining credit card details too. But enough of what's happening today lets go into detail why I fired Teddie Kossof Salon as a customer. Like everyone else happy with the service I first got a consultation with likely Teddie and was directed to a stylist who after learning what I liked and what I didn't like (product in my hair because of allergies) I would normally get a hairstyle every six to eight weeks depending on how busy I was. Going to Teddie Kossof, I had to book about two hours of my time off because this place was run really inefficiently, I really didn't need shampoo, but in order to keep the shampoo attendants busy, everyone got a shampoo, OK, more people to tip, then you waited even more time for your stylist who often was running late. After everything is said and done for, maybe a 90-120 minute break from seeing my clients, at times it was great, but other times it was a giant waste of time and worse, whoever built this place likely honed their craft building SCIF's as you could never get a cellphone signal in most of the salon. One day I came in for hairstyle and there were a number of new faces there, none of the stylists I trusted were there, and no one would share where they went. OK, whatever, if I didn't get my hair cut, I would start looking like Sean Connery in the first act of 'The Rock' I got the worse hairstyle I have ever got seen since picture day in 1st grade. The stylist didn't listen to what I wanted, she did what she thought I needed and added a whole bunch of product, I was really running late and couldn't afford the time suck of another shampoo. The haircut looked good for the night but after I slept on it and had a shower I was horrified. My head was red and the cut again was terrible. I had an afternoon meeting with a new client I had been trying to land for six weeks and I couldn't afford to look like the village idiot, I went to a Supercuts and asked for a flattop to fix this f**kedup haircut, paid $9 for the buzzcut and tipped $9 for the fastest haircut in a LONG time. Now I'm visiting a barbershop that caters to men's hairstyles, they are a chain, they have a guarantee, they know what I want, they honor my wishes, they haven't f**ked up my hair, and I don't get SMS spam when I'm running late on a haircut like I am now. In this six years, I have become a spa junkie, and I can see from photos on Google the inside or Teddie Kossof hasn't changed much since the last time I was here and it still looks like a set from 'Boogie Nights' Now If you think I am kidding about any of this, search all the other one and two-star reviews listed on this main page, and all the 140+ other reviews that are not currently recommended by Yelp and decide for yourself. read more

Update: anyone who sees these highlights says they are terrible and the person who did it shouldn't be allowed to touch hair lol Do these look like "blended highlights" to you? Well they do to Teddie Kossof a. I just got my hair "fixed" from my hair from last week. I've never had uglier highlights in my life. Stipes of yellow are in my hair. This was after last week I told them I wanted dark blonde/lightest brown and they dyed my hair but with no result. I didn't know what to do after the highlight "Fix" I donated a tip to her and just needed to get out of there. I will wear a hat or my hair up until I can get it fixed ELSEWHERE. There's no even highlights around my face except for two stripes on each side so my hair is highlighted yellow in the back and brown in the front or well orange from where they tinted it slightly orange at the top last week. Idk what happened to this salon it was a popular spot growing up in the north shore. I won't be back. Not even for free again to fix. Should've known after the first time. I had my hair highlighted less than 3 weeks ago. Aside from a few streaks, you cannot tell that anything was done. Stylist rushed through it and when I asked why I was only sitting under the dryer for a few minutes (when I normally sit for quite a while with others), she told me that she was just faster. Keeley Kossof is just magical with hair. I have thick curly hair that shrinks terribly with the wrong cut. I'm actually quite anxious about having my hair cut after an appalling experience at another big name salon/spa in Chicagoland. Keeley's magic is how she really listens and understands her clients desires and concerns, and shares her decades of experience and advice before she starts cutting. Her product knowledge is incredibly helpful as well, because she knows each line and how to combine products to achieve what you're looking for. The Services and People here-- stylists; esteticians; those assisting and learning; receptionists-- ALL are so friendly and treat their customers as if Each is important. Zach did a fantastic job of getting my hair back to a ( Much Better!) more vibrant and lively brunette color-- closer to my natural but with a lot more sheen and glimmer. Brentley, a hairdresser-- I could NOT even give him due credit with words, simply amazing. I definitely 'Second' the review left of him by another recent reviewer, commenting on how well he treated her friend from Japan with an amazing hairstyle. Same with me. I had very little hopes for my hair -- but he was a 'miracle worker' on the cut. Ambiance of Teddie's also 'just right'-- a busy, bright 'hub,' if you will, but withOUT an aura of gaudiness, 'shoddy' customer service and lack of quality. Associates and receptionists treat each-and-every-customer AS IF that customer is their 'one-and-only'-- amazing. I know that I am NOT their 'best customer,' by ANY stretch of the imagination, in terms of being able to pay for the more elaborate services. But yet they treated me with a high level of courtesy and respect. :) and I also get good advice and just good conversation from all their associates-- another reviewer had commented on such (re: Cheryl at Teddie's). It is SO true. . . After being a client for several years I went in for my routine root bump and foil. I had the the most beautiful long blonde hair for over 22 years, until this awful nightmare appointment . I had my usual process done and within the next few days all of the hair on top of my head had fallen and broken off a few centimeters short. I was horrified. I looked worse than Joe dirt. I went back and asked her what happened. She then blamed my fiancé and said he must have cut my hair in the middle of the night. She was detailed too, asking if I found hair clippings by my bed. I was horrified. I went upstairs to Grace to get some kind of a haircut to see what I could do and she indeed told me-in front of Mo the colorist that this was a chemical burn from the highlight process Mo had given me. I didn't get upset as I was literally in shock for weeks. So I then asked if she could put some Kind of low light in as I Could NOT put any bleach on my hair. By the way my hair is naturally a light ash blonde. She said she would do a tad bit darker because it'll all wash out as my hair was platinum blonde. So she began making me what I thought was going to be an ashy/ sandy blonde. Within 20 minutes she took the color off and I was a so dark- eddy Muenster black hair color. She assured me it would wash out. After coming home and crying for weeks I since went back in and she charged me more money and said it would fade. I finally came to my senses that this was now a nightmare- as I was just engaged and planning my wedding. I called the best salon o know of which is Paul Rehder of Winnetka and they were a godsend. It cost thousands of dollars to fix what this awful place did to me. They never once offered corrective color or extensions to fill in where I was literally bald. They should be ashamed of themselves. I tell everyone I know what Teddie Kossof salon did. They never once asked to fix or try to make it right. In fact my hair stylist started charging me more right after. It took 11 months and thousands of dollars to undue what they did. Your salon is a nightmare. read more

They have someone there to do any service you could possibly want. They have a diverse clientele, and many different ages of people. That should be a good indicator. People have their favorite stylist and go there for decades. And the employees stay there long term too! The prices are appropriate for the skill level offered. My favorites are Cary Werner would do cuts and style. I have never needed hair extensions, but he is a master at those! Marie Werner in the spa does a great job tinting eyebrows and all waxing services. Her facials have never made me break out in the 20 years I have been seeing her. John does coloring. I have not been a client of his, but several friends have and their color looks great! Plenty of parking and they always have a event going on to draw people in. I moved back to area 2 years ago and needed a new salon for color and cut. While I have good reviews for the colorists and stylists, the scheduling has been a nightmare. At least 5 times or more (I lost count) , my appointments have been mixed up. A month ago I arrived to find out it was the wrong day (not my mistake). This week, because of scheduling mishaps, I was suppose to wait over an hour for a cut after the coloring. I had to blow dry my own hair, my stylist of course wasn't expecting me so soon. I feel disappointed because as stated, the stylist & colorist are great and its not their fault but after so many mishaps I'M DONE. I have been going to Teddie Kossof since I moved to the Chicago land area several years ago. I have always had a great experience, and my hair has always looked fabulous until recently. Last month, I booked an appointment for balayage per usual. Days before my appointment, I received a phone call saying the colorist who normally does my hair is no longer with the company. I was informed of another colorist that had open availability. I was very hesitant to see someone new, but placed trust in what I considered a reputable hair salon. I went in for my scheduled balayage with Jenny on 7/5/20. I showed her a picture of the balayage I wanted to add some dimension and color to my hair for my wedding the next month. Her first reaction was to laugh at the image. I was personally offended. My previous colorist would never have laughed like that. If a color is unattainable, a colorist should be honest and up front in the beginning. Keep in mind, this is the same image I always showed my previous colorist and the color was ALWAYS successfully achieved. She proceeded to start coloring my hair and then she sent me on my way. I styled my hair at home since I had received a hair cut the previous week. My hair was nothing like the picture I showed her. My beautiful brunette hair was orange, brassy, and yellow. I waited two days to see if the color would change or improve and then called the salon. The woman I spoke with on the phone was pleasant and very understanding. She instructed me to come in that following Sunday for a color correction and possible toner. When I came in the following Sunday 7/12/20, Jenny told me that my hair did not look like that when I left. She proceeded to add more foils and tone my hair. It was even worse than the first color. I was so embarrassed to wear my hair down. My hair felt so coarse and unhealthy. I was so upset because my wedding was next month and my hair was absolutely horrible!! Thankfully, my hair was saved by an amazing colorist in southern Illinois. Overall, this was a horrible experience. She's talented, sweet, and in the affordable range of their stylists. They offer a range of pricing from affordable to rather high,so ask before you book. A fixture in the N.
