I was highly recommended to this salon from someone who has gone here for years. I felt this was a really good recommendation. I was completely wrong. This person who recommended me always had beautiful color. I was looking for a single process dye. I wanted my highlights to show through. If someone is trained properly with color, this is not hard. Apparently, the woman I was recommend to did not have the training. Her name is Sona and I would NEVER recommend her. She is a nice person but runs her clients like an assembly line. She does not listen to the customer. I came in with sun bleached hair. I do a lot of gardening. The sun does change the color. I wanted her to get as close to the natural color of my hair as possible which is brunette. This has never been a problem before. She looked in my hair and said she could see where it was darker. Instead of making the color what I wanted, she made the color match the sun bleached hair which was easier for her so she could get to the next client. My hair has a red glow. It is really ugly. I refuse to go out in public looking like this. Does nobody understand what this does to a person? I just want to cry every time I look in a mirror. She really did a number on me. She also said I needed a glaze. I never had this before from anyone. I have no idea what a glaze is or what it does. She never explained this to me nor did she tell me the cost. The customer always needs to be informed so the customer can make a logical decision. I figured this would be a temporary color wash. Maybe $10? When I went to pay I got sticker shock they added on $35.Not everyone in the NorthShore is wealthy like most assumes. I know the value if a dollar but I struggle for every penny. This was a scam in my eyes and to get a commission for something that was not needed. Be ware of additional costly services that are not needed. In all my years of having my hair colored,I never had a glaze on a single process dye. I still have no idea why one needs this. I did talk to the manager. I wanted to talk to the owner but she made herself obsolete. I don't like talking through people. This is how misunderstanding and miscommunications happen. I did talk to the manager who talked to the owner. Horrible! You need to talk directly with the owner. This never happened. I asked many times. I also asked this manager if this somewhat of a colorist is a master colorist or on her way. I wanted to see her certificates. Apparently she is just someone off the streets who does coloring. She has no certificates for me to see. She was not licensed. In all my years of coloring my hair, I have never seen anything like this. I was told they would tear up my check. We will see if this is true but I was also told I can not have any of their services again. They think this is customer service friendly. I don't think so. I was left with a mess that will be very costly and take many months to correct. The color is uneven. I am so embarrassed. They simply do not care. I do not recommend going here. It was a horrible experience. Just be honest if you can't do what the customer wants. This is all I have ever asked. read more

I have lived in the North Shore for 12 years and have been in search of a great place to get a haircut. This is not it. I did go here for a couple of years but only because it was the best of the worst that I could find. This last time was awful. The cut which was supposed to be long blended layers ended up being two distinct layers that looked stupid AND I had asked for the stylist to only take off the dead ends. We agreed on an inch to inch and a half, she took over three inches. I was so annoyed! It will take a year for it grow back! I don't want to ruin anyone's career so I won't provide her name but I would look elsewhere for a good stylist. read more

I started going here about 4 months ago after having my hair messed up by a different salon. My girlfriend recommended Tracey. She is Superb! We connected right off the bat. She listens and gives options. Answers your questions honestly. Wants you to be totally happy when you leave. If you aren't 100% happy she will fix it. I am a red head which is a challenging color to work with but Tracey was up for the challenge with a smile on her face. Very professional with a great sense of humor. I found "My Gal"!!! I'm not a frequent visitor to salons of this caliber, but with the somewhat complicated nature of the dimensional balayage color I wanted, I was ECSTATIC to learn there was an opening at M Salon while I was IN Chicago for the week! Sam was my primary colorist for the day. I'd sent images of my hair & screenshots of the look I wanted & it was clear that Sam had put thought & effort into preparing the best method for my color well before I arrived! It was a welcoming & pleasant experience to be in her chair & I appreciated very much that, at one point when we were using different terminology for the same thing, she took time to communicate with me & make sure we both understood what the goal was - so refreshing as I've had some stylists/colorist have a confused look on their face after a consultation, but plunge ahead anyway assuming they know what I mean. You can see the collage image in the picture. Unfortunately my phone camera doesn't capture any of the many dimensions of color, so it looks more like ombre, but believe me it's quite exact to the look I was going for! The only reason I went to M Salon was because one of my best friends was getting married and one of the bridesmaids could get us a good deal from M Salon. Okay, awesome I thought, anything for a deal! She said that a basic updo is $50 to $65 depending on what we have done. Not too bad, considering at my regular salon I pay $60 for an updo. The salon itself is really pretty and open but we went on a Friday morning and they were packed! There was a bridal group before us which delayed us getting done which ticked off the bride a little. My hair stylist was really nice (forgot her name...) but she did my hair totally wrong than what I asked for. I gave her a picture of a great half up, half down look that was breezy and not too prom-y (think slicked back uber tight curls on top of the head and hair spray galore). But I think she could've done a much better job. I asked for loose and flowy and I got super tight, slicked back and tightly wound curls which at the end of the night ended up being really piecey and thin. I asked for a slight "poof" at my crown for volume and she slicked back my sides a little more than I wanted. Yes yes I know it's for a wedding and while a crap ton of hairspray is needed for a style to keep for hours, there's a good way of sleeking a look and a wrong way. She even twisted the pony tail from the top half and tightly wounded it even more. It wasn't what I asked for at all. To top it off...it was $70!!! When I asked why it was so much, the rude receptionist mentioned that it's orignially $80 and that I already got a discount. Sure okay I still got a discount, I'm fine with that. But who in their right mind would pay friggin $80 in the first place? Plus mine was only half up! I died a little as I handed her my credit card. NOT WORTH IT AT ALL. Lower your prices for your "updos" M Salon. Your services are not worth that kind of money. *Slight note: Then again my friend's hair for her wedding was AMAZING. Michele and Diana have been doing my hair for (gasp!!!) almost 16 years!!! In all that time, I've only had my hair touched by others when they were on maternity leave. They are both professional, responsive to my needs, and accommodating. The front desk staff knows me by name, calls to confirm all appointments and even holds product for me that is running low and they know I'm scheduled. You can't ask for more!! LOVE EM!!! read more

When you get a really beautiful haircut and exquisite color, you never leave. These hair stylists are every bit as talented as any of the top celebrity stylists one might read about in a high end fashion magazine. Manicures and pedicures are wonderful and they last! Here is why I won't return to M Salon. I got a good cut there two weeks ago at the recommendation of a dear friend of my who gets her haircut there regularly. She told me it would be fine to bring my 10 pound Terrier who is older and quiet. She met me there and we had a good experience. My dog sat on my lap the whole time. He was treated very nicely. Today I returned without my friend, who is a celebrity of sorts. I brought the same dog on a leash. No one said a thing. I got my hair colored and was taken to the sink. After the wash I went back to the station alone. I rubbed the black blotch off my forehead myself with a towel. The colorist came back. She did not inspect the color at all. She said, "You can blow dry your hair yourself if you like." She said there would be products at the blow dry station. Well, there were three empty bottles and two dirty hair brushes. There was barely room there to move your arms. A sign said: "Please bring your own tools". Well, I left my tool box at home. I tried to dry my hair with my fingers and no product but it was not going well so I went to the receptionist. The colorist was nowhere to be found. I told the receptionist there were only two dirty brushes at the blow dry stand and no products. She did not seem bothered by that nor did she apologize. She did get me a brush though and ask me what products I wanted. I said none. All I wanted to do was dry my hair a little and leave. But someone else was at the blow dry station so I waited with my dog. A woman came out of the back room and said I'd have to hold my dog in my arms. She said, "Dogs are not allowed here." She was mean and cold. I told her I had brought my dog the last time and had not problems. She said, "I'm the owner and I can't have dogs. Dogs are a health hazard." Not one person was interested in whether or not my hair color was right or if I was happy with anything. Look, I've been an actress for 30 years. I've done fifteen years of series TV and dozens of movies. I like to go to good hair salons. But I'm no diva. I don't like aloof service because a salon thinks it's too hip or too chic to act nice. I expect to be treated the way everyone should be treated at a salon. My dog was welcomed at this salon the last time, and no one said anything when I came back with him. I have gone with me to my last salon for five years. The Circle Salon. They cut, color, and blow dry my hair. They offer me water, coffee, tea, or wine. Like they do everybody else. And they are rated one of the top salons in Chicago for their talent and their service. This owner has no talent, no manors, and no clue. I told my friend I'd never go back to this place and I never will. Who wants to go to a salon that ruins their day? The color, by the way, when I got home and looked at it, was okay. read more
