This was my last day off for a while so we settled on a gelx fill instead of a full set ( what I requested). This is my most ludicrous and disappointing encounter with salon management. I was quite pleased with the person who was executing the services (wax and no chip gel) until I had to deal with a warranty for the services performed. My first terrible encounter occurred on my wedding anniversary, when, despite my prior appointment, they began the procedure and informed me that there was insufficient wax to complete the waxing. But rest assured that the owner, often known as the manager, is on her way. While I waited, they offered me a complimentary pedicure. The pedicure was finished, and the wax was hours away, so they requested me to return with only 1/3 of one leg done at the time. I had to cancel my hair appointment to return to the waxing treatment. Once that was completed, I was charged for the full wax fee as well as the full pedicure price (despite the fact that they were advertised as complimentary), and the discount offered was a ridiculous $15, only after I inquired if anything was offered because of my experience. I ended up paying over $160 for all of my services after receiving the "discount"of $15.I felt taken for granted, and the management showed little concern for my troubles or lost time. I never returned to that salon for a wax, but I was prepared to give them another try and continued with my manicure no chip gel treatments. Unfortunately, three months later, today, I ended up with four nails damaged after only two weeks from the service (August 2), so I kindly called the salon for two things: To find out what the guarantee is for no chip gel service and when I can come to the salon to have them redone. The owner responded, stating that her company does indeed provide warranty services, and that the average duration for that type of manicure is three weeks. Today marked exactly two weeks for me. She asked if I wanted to mend my four nails or get them completely redone, and if I could wait until next week, when my appointment was planned. I told her that I couldn't go to work with my nails this awful, and I start recalling my past bad experience. She offered me a discount for being after two weeks, and if it happens again, she will cover it under warranty. When I asked what discount amount she had in mind, she said she'd have to call me back because she was getting another call!!! She did not call me back, so I contacted her again, and I discovered that she was prepared to give me a $15 discount on a service listed at $65, attempting to excuse her decision by stating that I did not call in time and that not everyone has the same amount of warranty dependent on services and nail turnaround. I was outraged when she dismissed her initial guarantee of staying by her business service warranty. I expressed my disappointment, as this is my second negative experience with her. She asked for my opinion on what would be fair to me. It's absurd that as a customer, you're forced to negotiate the service warranty after receiving poor service. NEVER TO BE RETURNED!!!! I nicely asked the lady doing my nails to even out my thumbs (because I was getting French tip) and she yelled at me and continued to be rude the rest of the time I was there. This was the most rushed pedicure I have ever received. They essentially took off my old polish and slapped on a new color, they didn't push my cuticles back or even trim my nails. My 5 yr old had a drop off bday party so I had a few hours (gasp) to myself. I took advantage of getting a much needed pedicure across the street from the bday party location. No one is actually going to see my toes anytime soon (thanks to winter/spring), but regardless I was due for some foot pampering. While I had never been here before, I've walked by on several locations and it's always packed. I had no problem getting an appointment since I called ahead so I'd recommend doing the same. Overall, on par with the other local nail salons I visit. Lots of colors to choose from, clean and friendly nail technicians. My one complaint is that that nail technician rubbed my feet so hard that she actually left me with a blister on the side of my foot. It wouldn't keep me from going back, but I don't think I'd sit in her chair again. I went back to the bday party with pretty pink (hello spring!) toes. When it was time for cake my poor toes were trampled by a group of sugar crazed 5 year olds. Only one toe was ruined and I stopped back into lotus (this time with my daughter in tow) to fix it which was no problem. I am now converted. This place is clean, a great value, the staff is friendly, clean, awesome amount of colors, accommodating, convenient, and did I say clean? The staff is amazing. Last time I was here, there was an older woman in a wheel chair. (long story... but worth it) She came with her caregiver. The staff pulled up a special chair so her care giver could sit right next to her. Then the young man at the front desk came and gave her a bottle of polish. He said I had to order this special. I know you want this color and the manufacturer has discontinued it. He said here is this one bottle. I will try to get some more for you. Meanwhile, they all doted on her. It really warmed my heart to see how nice everyone was. Eventually the gentleman came back and said he couldn't find anymore, but he would continue to try. My goodness, such effort for a bottle of nail polish! So back to ME! They are also nice to me (and everyone who walks in there). I have had several different manicurists work on me and they are all very good. I also love that they have big TVs with the food channel on. I'm not one for chit-chat, and this makes my 30 minutes fly by. They have a great mani-pedi deal on Mondays and Tuesdays ($40). As Elaine said in her review, it's not a "luxury" spa-like place. I had been here several times for a pedicure and found it to be a pleasant atmosphere, really clean, nice equipment, and overall great service. Today they were running what ended up being 30 minutes late, and they acted like they were holding up the Vice President or something! Every person working there apologized and thanked me for my patience, and they added a paraffin wax treatment that I'm now going to have to buy every time because it was great. I'm from Highland Park and my parents still live there, so I have been to Lotus more than a few times. Each time I've had a wonderful experience. The space is very clean and well-decorated. Also, they for some reason play a lot of mid-2000s pop and alternative, and between that and the act of being in Highland Park, it's like high school all over again ;). Overall, the manicures last for quite a while and are well done. Adding to how great this place is the fact that the people who work here are so nice. They do not rush you and are genuinely friendly. It didn't take long for many of the Lotus employees to learn my name, even though I'm probably there less often than other customers! It shows how they really appreciate their customers, I'd say.
