Forever reviewing this place because I can't emphasize how much of a gem it is! Front desk is so kind-- saw me take off my jacket in the foyer and quickly came over to help me and put it away in their closet I believe Alex washed my hair and she was so kind and thorough! She kept checking on me and gently guiding my head with such a soothing voice. She notified me when it was almost done-- but in my head i was hoping it wouldn't stop! Amy cut my hair-- and i was so touched to see that she remembered me. It never fails to amaze me how fast she cuts my hair and how meticulous she is about matching each strand of hair. When it came to blow drying-- Amy was blow drying it and then Alex came in and helped at the same time too. I felt sooooo special having both these ladies blow dry my hair ! Amy finished with styling my hair and hair oil application Results make me so happy over the moon-- and i'm so happy to know that each time coming here is just as good as the first! Jaeeun and Salon Yangmi saved me!! I'm from California but I will fly to you Yangmi! TLDR: I got a terrible, too short haircut from A DIFFERENT salon and the setting perm I got at Yangmi saved me from having to walk around with hair I hated for months. So yeah, basically I got botched by a salon in my home state of CA right before a work trip gaaaah. I was desperate to fix it but it was already so short I couldn't conceive of how. After much googling I found an image of a girl with wavy short hair that I could envision on myself. So to make it happen, and fast, I contacted Salon Yangmi from the airport on my way to Chicago. They responded quickly and asked for photos of my current hair and my desired style. They let me know that it would be doable however after the perm would require some styling to be exactly like the photo. I was overjoyed and booked immediately. From the moment I stepped in the salon I was well taken care of. The setting perm is a long process with many steps and it was my first one ever so it was important that I trusted my stylist. This was easy with Jaeeun who was so professional and talented, a true master! After the treatment was done she gave me some tips about styling and also let me know that she had purposefully made my curls a bit tighter so that they would relax into the style I wanted and give the perm more longevity. And after 3 months this has proven to be true! Though I was very happy with the way it's looked at every stage. I will absolutely be returning for another setting perm when I need it! Hubby and I have been here several times. We have had mostly only Korean speaking people cut our hair so this time we came prepared and had multiple pictures of the haircut we each wanted. I was seated first and I noticed that the person cutting my hair smelled strongly of smoke even though I was wearing a mask. The smell actually lingered and my hair smelled like smoke for the rest of the day. Hubby had his haircut by the same person and he had asked for part of his hair to be cut shorter but was denied. It seemed like his haircut was rushed (~10 minutes). It came out uneven and he just fixed it himself later when we got home. After we paid for our haircuts we noticed the guy cutting our hair dashed out of Salon Yangmi for a smoke break so not sure if that was the reason hubby's haircut was short lived. read more

Wonderful experience here as always! I switched hair salons last year because my stylist kept canceling on me last minute, and she stopped being able to deliver the cut/ color I wanted over time. I came to Salon Yangmi based on reviews. Kei and Amy are wonderful! All staff are very kind, and they are punctual. If you're kept waiting for a little bit, they offer you a beverage. They are professional and efficient - they have many people helping with washing your hair (which includes a great massage), mixing colors, and helping blow dry your hair (and I have a LOT of hair). They tell you the prices up front, and never try to upsell you. I thought it was especially awesome that they were able to accommodate a guest who had a hijab - she had her haircut in a separate room, to respect her traditions. I had an appointment for a setting perm at Salon Yangmi a few weeks ago with Amy and can't say enough good things about the experience and results. Amy takes her time and you can tell she's an expert at her craft, making sure what you envision for your hair suits your face and lifestyle. The salon itself is nice and well maintained. They offer tea, coffee or water while you wait for your hair to set. I'd say price wise, this is very reasonable especially considering their perms last quite a few months if properly maintained. I previously went to Chinatown for my perms but felt that each time I went, I received the standard perm even though I brought in photos for inspiration. With my Asian hair it is so hard to find American hairstylist that can work with Asian hair. I ended up getting choppy haircut that also giving me split ends. Then I started to get my hair done in Chicago (used to go to the salon at Chinatown). I am not too satisfied with my hair there so I searched again and found Salon Yangmi. Book appointment and traveled about 6 hours from Kentucky to Chicago. Arrived 15 minutes earlier, waited just a few minutes, and get taken care of right away. I totally recommend this salon, why? 1. I don't feel like my stylist, Noah is rushing. He made sure that my hair is ready for the process. (The other salon I felt the rushed and scrambled around, my hair was not prepared well). I am a nurse, I used to have 6 patients for myself, so ability to multi task is understandable, and Noah still took the time checking. 2. I told Noah what I want, without picture for reference and impressively he gets it, I came out from the salon just the way I want it. 3. The 2 ladies that washed my hair were courteous and gentle, not rushing. 4. Salon was very clean, nice, and cozy. So does the bathroom. They didn't pick up and reuse things that fell on the floor which I really appreciate it. (The other salon was the opposite). Overall, I am very happy and satisfied, everything was worth what I paid for. With this summer heat, my naturally curly hair gets frizzy and just uncontrollable. I've had a pixie cut before but i thought it was time to go back to it. I always make an appointment to avoid having to wait. Been coming here for new hairdos for the past 2 years. Over this time, I've gotten 1. hair cuts (i.e. long bobs) 2. setting perm (took 4 hours, curls were great for 9 months) 3. hair dye (2 rounds of bleach and then hot pink color, took 3.5 hours) and every time I have received satisfactory service. I don't speak Korean, but there's always someone who can translate there on the weekends. I usually bring a couple pictures as examples and ask them to for advice and to do what they think will look good. I was really impressed by their experience and skill when I got the setting perm. I had previously tried to get a digital perm in San Francisco (Sunset) at an asian salon thinking they'd be experts, but it was a huge flop and waste of money. I took a risk and tried again at Salon Yangmi and the results were exactly what I wanted. The recent hair dye and cut I got last week was also successful. I showed a couple pictures and got exactly what I was looking for. I recommended this place to my friend who was in town from Indiana and she too was happy with the cut she got. read more

I have never had a hair experience like this in my life. I came with 5 photos of what I wanted for the color: an auburn-honey tone with some dimension. Like the photos I uploaded here. *** also note, my hair had NOT been dyed or colored in 4+ years. And that was only some lighter highlights. *** They first bleached the lighter pieces which is normal. Then the applied the coloring. I noticed it was really pink and asked about it. They told me "it looks like that now but when we dry it it won't." When it dried, it was PINK. My friend and I told them this needs to be corrected because it was nothing like the photos I showed them. They suggested all over color to convert the PINK to the treatment I showed them. They showed the color book with the hair color they said it would be. When they put the color on it was literally ORANGE. I called the Manager, Sam, over to alert him and he insisted that it would be the color from the color samples they showed me. It wasn't. As they were drying it I knew it. I could see the ORANGE and then other areas where the PINK was there. I left the salon with ORANGE and PINK hair. I literally cried in my car because it was so awful. If you're white, I would not recommend going here. They don't know anything about dying hair. The whole time the two "colorists" acted like trainees. I now have to find someone to correct this orange-pink mess; I'm completely devastated. PS: Hard to believe but they actually charged me for the botched color job: $140. What would they charge me anything at all? That's like going out to dinner and the whole meal is not what you ordered and then they come back and say "we only charged you for the main course." read more

I love that your answer to all of the bad reviews is that "there was a miscommunication" how is there a miscommunication when I showed the stylist a picture of the cut that I wanted which was a shoulder length Bob but I ended up with a Shag with bangs when I never told her I wanted bangs. The miscommunication is due to your stylist not speaking English but taking English speaking customers and not giving the customers what they asked for even when a clear picture is shown of what I wanted. GET YOUR PERM HERE! They are awesome and know exactly what kind've perm you will want. They are very attentive and trendy. First, I came for a haircut, and Sonya was the one that cut my hair. I haven't had a haircut in so long, but I showed her a picture of a 2block cut and she gave me exactly what I wanted. However, due to my hair being really flat, I wanted a bit more volume. I called the next day and asked if they can fit me in for a perm, and they scheduled me that same morning! Hoyeon was in charge of my perm, and her and the two that helped her did amazing! My teenage daughter got a haircut from Vickie (or Beckie?), one of their hair designers, and walked out crying. Not only did she not cut as requested, but also she had poor communication skill and unprofessional attitude. She didn't care to introduce herself at the beginning, the cut was rushed, and she just removed the hair cutting cape and walked away without any acknowledgement of completion. In terms of style, the length was way too shorter than my daughter and I had told her, and she didn't ask even once if the length is ok while cutting. With the initial design my daughter had in mind, she had told Vickie (?) that she does not want side bang. However, after her hair being cut way too shorter than she wanted, my daughter asked for side bang to make it look better. However, she refused saying "I already asked your daughter three times if she wanted side bang, and she said she didn't. And my next client is here." The truth is she only asked once, before she started cutting. The service was very poor and how Vickie handled the unsatisfied customer was extremely disappointing. She was rude. We briefly shared what happened with the owner on our way out, but it didn't help at all- the owner seemed not interested in customer experience. I highly recommend going to another salon, if you want to get a good hair cut and feel valued as a customer. read more

THE SALON: Walking in the place looks so luxurious! Smells and is very clean, the bathrooms are even soo cool and clean! It feels like a different world in there. I was there 10 minutes before my appointment time, but they took care of me right away after checking my temp and spraying me with a light disinfectant spray for my clothing. THE STAFF: The staff that talked to me was very nice! The young man in the front and my hair designer made me feel very listened to when he asked about my hairstyle and explained to her. The woman that washed my hair was very good! She was not too rough or rushed to wash my hair, I felt she took her time and did a great job! All of the other staff seemed very friendly and approachable also! The vibe is very chill and relaxed, no one looks at you with a stink eye or seems stuck up like many other salons do. Definitely coming back here! Got my hair done by Hoyeon (please book her she did AMAZING) and it took about 4 hours to get this color. She was very attentive and was super nice through the whole process. We ran into some problems with the middle of my hair not lifting as much as the ends but she handled it like a pro and got me this beautiful lilac/ash blonde/silver color I went in with some inspo photos and she went above and beyond and made my hair look better than what I was expecting. I think she has a great vision for color so if you're planning on dying your hair I'd recommend her! Yangmi has also been handling the covid situation well too. Upon arrival I was sprayed down with some sort of sanitizer and was offered hand sanitizer. I made an appointment with Yuni to get a haircut. While the staff here speak very limited English, they tried to be helpful and understanding on what I was looking for. I first told them I would like to get a haircut and then I was led to the back to get my hair washed. The lady that washed my hair was very quick and rough with the hair wash and conditioning. There was no brief head massage that I normally get at my normal salon back in Chicago. After the hair wash, Yuni, came out and sat me down on the chair. She patiently waited for me to explain what kind of haircut I wanted and I showed her a picture of Park Bo Young's bob from the Korean drama "Abyss" (). And she gave me exactly the haircut I asked for and I was very happy with it! She was very quick and precise with the scissors and checked with me on how I like the length. I was in the door, hair washed, hair cut and styled, paid, and out the door within 30 minutes. When I got home, a few strands of hair were longer by the bob by an inch, which I just cleaned it up myself -- not a huge deal. I should comb my hair in the salon next time to make sure all strands are captured. Women's haircut cost is $35, which is $30 cheaper than where I was previously getting my haircut. I'll be back and I'll have a better sense of how to request what I need next time. I will definitely be booking with Yuni again! NOTE: Please bring cash to tip the stylist. I came in with some outgrown color + at-home color and had a vision for an ashy ombré. Hoyeon made it happen! She is a master in her craft and worked with what hair condition I gave her. We talked about what was possible, made a plan, and she delivered! She is meticulous, and approaches color in a way that is individualized to the customer. Salon Yangmi has been my go-to for the last few visits, and it's been a hit or miss. First, I had my hair colored there last year for my wedding. The outcome was barely noticeable and not what I had shared I wanted. This service was pricey, damaged my hair tremendously, and I had to go back to have it redone. It still didn't look right, and I paid to have it redone again elsewhere. For haircuts, pricing for women ($35) is reasonable, but service is inconsistent. About half the time I've been offered a drink/snack or pillow; this most recent visit I was not. Not a big deal, but the gal working on my hair was also finishing up someone else next to me and was clearly distracted. She was friendly, and the overall result was fine, but she was a bit hasty, and I didn't get the sense she paid close attention to details. From start to finish, I was there for only ~30 minutes, including wash and blowdry. I will say they do a great job shampooing (wish I could come in just for this) and keeping the work stations tidy. read more

I've gone here for about a year now and every time I go, my scalp will be stained up to two washes. The women that do wash even shampoo my hair 3x because of how tinted the dye is, which makes my hair even drier. Stylist oftentimes rushes when they do my roots which leaves dye on my forehead, jaw and neck which are so hard to remove and I thought this was a normal thing but my mom who use to be a stylist, disagrees and others who get their hair done by other salon professionals. Yes, the job gets done but very sloppy and rushed. For how much I pay for the service, I'd expect to have my stylist take their time and avoid my scalp getting stained and extremely dry and flaked for a good week :/ read more
