This is a truly authentic Japanese hair salon (complete with the massage, the shampoo, magazines, chic interior, and complimentary tea). Everytime I go it is as if I'm teleported back to Japan. If you don't know what hairstyle you'd like the stylists are very good at selecting a hairstyle that matches your face shape (or they will go with your choice on hair magazine). Ever since I found this place I have not gone to any other salons. The price is high especially if you get a perm but I think for the service and the ambience and the quality results it is totally worth it. read more

Even though I did not get my hair cut in this salon, I actually feel the awful attitude and service when I visited there from 150 miles away. I was late for the appointment and they kindly offered that they can still cut my hair without washing. But how do you think you are going to get a good haircut when the hair is dry and messy？I then sat there discussing about whether I should still go for it until one of them came and told us to leave with a dirty look. This place is amazing. To begin with this place is cute clean and modern. They have lots of magazines to read and a big table for the waiting area. Rumi listens to exactly what I wanted. I gave her a picture of what I wanted. She gave her opinions of what my hair would actually look like and told me the realities of the magazine pictures being styled, curled, and having added extensions. She told me what my hair could do and options for what would look good with my current hair and face shape. When she started cutting she let me know what she was doing at all times. I felt like she really let me in the know. I recommended this place all the time for friends who have all hair types. Update** Rumi is still absolutely the best hair stylist I could ever ask for. Not only does she always keep it real by telling me realistically what I can do with my hair she shows me pictures of what she can do. She has skills no doubt, and does amazing work she just doesn't give me false hope with what I have to offer. She also is so knowledgable and I love that she not only does her magic but educated me on what she was doing. For example: I have very long thin hair it runs to the middle of my back. Rumi knows I do not like to use product and prefer a style that I can roll out of bed with. I once asked her for bangs. She told me with how I am I probably wouldn't do the work they need and would get annoyed with them very quick. She did longer chin length layers for some volume and the appearance of bangs and told me if I really liked them I could always comeback and get them shorter. I was so happy for the recommendation and I felt they really fit my style more. For example: I told her I wanted to go blonde and she straight up told me about the damage they would happen because I have dark Asian hair. She also educated me on the fact I would probably have to cut a lot of length from the damage of the bleach because of matter what products she used there would be dead ends. I didn't do that. The only dislike I have for Rumi is that she is so ridiculously popular. Around holiday time plan ahead because she is so busy. This place is a Japanese hair salon and I wanted to mention that I am Korean. I thought their would be more of a language barrier because most magazines are in Japanese and all the staff speak Japanese. Their really isn't a barrier as most are bilingual. I am not sure if they work with natural hair or non-Asian hair to be honest, but I would call and ask. Besides Rumi they have all these little things that add up to an overall epic experience. 1. They have a coat and purse check so you don't have to worry about them. 2. They have little shelves for your phone, glasses, books, & coffee 3. Their hair cutting thingy, the cloth they put around your neck so the hair just falls to the ground and not in your clothes, HAS ARM HOLES. This means that you can actually be eating, play on your phone, or read magazines during the process. Game changer. 4. The chairs raise higher, turn, and lay flat when you are getting your hair washed. This means you are not putting a horrible kink in your neck to wash your hair. It's like lying on a super comfy sofa and there is a perfect neck sized rest while your hair is getting washed. 5. During the hair wash they put this small towel over your eyes so you don't have to awkwardly stare around. Just enjoy the wash! 6. It's a really calm and quiet atmosphere. I don't feel rushed with my appointments and the other customers are all really polite when I've been. I feel they do a really good job of giving a proper amount of time per appointment so people don't get frustrated waiting for long periods of time. 7. All the other staff seem to be really good as well. The receptionist and other staff seem to also work as a team which is nice to see. I would say haircuts are a obviously more expensive than super cuts but on par with any real salon. My hair cut is about $50 before tax, but once again I have hair down to my middle back. It may be cheaper (possibly) for shorter hair. If you have Asian hair and want a knowledgable, kind person who has amazing skills go to Rumi at Uni-Hair. read more

It was my first time at Uni salon and I had an amazing experience. I have been looking for an Asian hairstylist and think I have hit the jackpot at Uni Salon. Even though this is a Japanese hair salon, a lot of the stylists do speak English and so you don't have to worry about a language barrier. Rumi-san cut my hair and she was fantastic and friendly. I had read reviews saying that she was usually booked and I can definitely see why! I appreciated how she listened to what I wanted and gave me her thoughts on whether or not she thought it would be okay. I also appreciated how she would update me with what she was doing to my hair while cutting it. She also gave me some quick blowdrying tips since I normally don't have a lot of time to style my hair. This is the only salon that touches my hair. I've been coming here for 10 years now- they recently moved here from about 5 minutes down the street. Personally, Maki-san is my go-to. She is gifted with a sense for giving the best cut/style to compliment any face, naturally. I never tell her what to do. I leave it to her to work her magic. That is saying a ton, as I'm likely the pickiest person on the planet when it comes to my hair - it is my prize possession. She always gives me a cut that leaves me looking my very best! If you're the type that likes to find a cut or style in a magazine and make it yours, Masa-san is your guy. He's very talented at making that happen. These people know exactly what they're doing, are great at what they do, and no one does it better. They continuously train on all the new techniques to get ahead of the trend. Masa San gave my daughter an Awesome short haircut a couple of weeks ago. My daughter is usually only happy with her haircut on the day she gets it because it has been styled and made to look perfect, but then we can never get it to look the same at home.
