Jaime is awesome and my own personal hero. Last year while I was finishing my master's degree, my relatively new PC laptop was dying slowly but surely. (Clearly it couldn't handle all the awesome I was churning out on it.) As a graduation present to myself I bought a Mac and sure enough, a mere week after I bought a new laptop my PC laptop died. Less than two years old and it was toast. (And this is exactly why once you go mac, you never go back.) One of the IT guys at my last job offered to fix it for me, but then I quit that job and felt awkward taking him up on his offer. So, no more PC for me. I was lucky that I had a brand new laptop so my PC dying wasn't the end of the world, but it had everything I did for my master's degree on there, except my capstone/thesis. No, I am not a total idiot and I DO use Dropbox, but all of my research filled it up so if it wasn't capstone related it got kicked out of my dropbox folder. Fast forward a year later, and it sat collecting dust. I kept meaning to try to fix it myself, but that never happened. It was also eating away at me that I lost *everything* I did in grad school, and considering I am actually using my degree it sucked not being able to go back and reference things I did. I kept weighing the cost of having it repaired vs. just letting it go, but one day I finally decided to take it in. I did a quick Yelp search for computer repair, and Techlife popped up first. I read the reviews about him being so amazing and the great prices, and I packed up my laptop and drove over there. I was actually expecting parking to be a nightmare given its proximity to Wrigley, but both times I came here it was super easy and I got rockstar parking right in front. I dropped it off and as promised, Jaime called me a few hours later with the diagnosis - my hard drive was bad. He could install a new one and attempt data recovery on my old one. This all went down on a Friday afternoon, and by Monday morning everything was done and... *drumroll please* By some miracle, he was able to recover EVERYTHING. It's all there, every last paper and important/sentimental photos that I forgot I had that I am SUPER happy he recovered. The best part is the price - it was so good! I got his amazing service, a new hard drive, Windows installed, data recovery, etc. for a price so low I was convinced he forgot to invoice me for something. Even the data recovery was cheap, though he did admit if he would have had to send it off it would have been hundreds of dollars. Jaime, you rock. I have literally been through 5 IT guys in the past couple of years, and finally I have found a good one. I've had some that are unresponsive, or try to upsell equipment that is fully unnecessary, or even some that have set up outdated equipment that required replacement in less than a year. Jaime is the only one that has met my expectations, I think he is absolutely wonderful. We had a HUUUGE IT emergency at our office which would have put us out of business and he spent 13 straight hours working with our systems to make sure we once again became operational. He learned the ins and outs of our dental specific software to better serve us and have insight on not only our hardware but also software needs. This guy was a huge help and very easy going and nice to work with. He solved my issue on the first try and was very reasonably priced. So nice to find a computer fixer person who is competent and who charged a fair price. I find computer fix people to be like car repair people . I always feel like they have me over a barrel. Love this place! I am the kind of person that likes to try and fix things myself and I tried to fix my computer doing everything I thought would solve my issue but was unable to fix it. I called Jaime and he was able to resolve my issue in no time!!! None of that waiting for Geek Squad to just check it, x amount of days, and then actually repair it, another x amount of days, not to mention the cost and dealing with ignorant young adults who are texting away their life, while I am patiently (and very frustratedly) waiting in a long line. Jaime did a great job. I broke the glass on my MacBook Pro about a year ago and was too lazy and cheap to get it fixed. The cheapest quote I could find was around $200. Jaime replaced the glass on my screen for about $60! He worked with my schedule and made me feel really comfortable about leaving my laptop with him. I'd def come back again. read more

Wonderful service! Jaime at Techlife was very professional and helpful throughout the recovery of data after a hard drive crash. I brought the drive to Jaime, who uses the Data Rescue Center in California for failed drives, and he shipped it to them for the recovery process. The drive had a number of problems - physical damage, encryption from the drive manufacturer, file corruption - and the data was recovered! The Data Rescue Center succeeded where others had failed. They were persistent in solving each new problem that the drive presented. And despite the problems and extra time put in to the recovery, the price for the recovery did not change. They charged only what was initially quoted. Jaime was very good in communicating and explaining the process throughout the recovery effort. I give both Techlife and the Data Rescue Center the highest of recommendations. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Jaime and Techlife. I had a very sensitive situation, and was traveling from NY to Chi. to close our main office. Our computers were over 10 yrs. old and we needed all of our documents transferred to a portable hard drive, and the hard drives on the old computers cleared. Jaime worked so patiently with this non-techie, and we made plans for him to come to the office. He worked very hard under trying circumstances, and gave us the solution that was the easiest, most cost effective and that would ensure the proper transfer of our sensitive data. My laptop hard drive crashed. I called Techlife the Monday before Christmas at 8:00 a.m.. Jamie answered and said they would be open at 10:00 if I wanted to bring in my computer. I was there at 10:00 and by 2:00 that same day Jamie had called, given me my options, and was given authorization to do the work. At 10:00 a.m. the following day Jamie called and said my computer was ready to be picked up. He had installed a new hard drive, gone to the Lenovo website to get the specific Thinkpad software for my machine, and reinstalled Windows 7 Pro. Total cost: $30 for the diagnosis and $155 for the new hard drive and software reinstall, tax included. Great price, great service, and a genuinely nice guy.
