This guy is a fraud. This shop was recommended because I was having transfer case problems. I called and explained my situation, and he told me to come on down. I literally watched him after i dropped of my Jeep, drive around the block, add one quart to my transfer case and then he called 20 minutes later saying it was ready for pick up. That I was just a quart low. He said if I had ANY problems to come back and he would take the TC apart to look inside. Sure enough my TC was still clunking the next day! I showed up to the shop to drop off the jeep so he could work on it. He tells me he refuses to work on the Jeep, because it's missing an exhaust hanger! He charged me $75 for a quart of fluid and then just referred Livermore muffler. Do yourself a favor and find a real shop. The owner is a joke. read more

Review is purely for interactions for client interactions. Prefacing by saying I don't know a lot about cars. Something is wrong with my cars transmission that my usual mechanic couldn't fix and I was referred to this place. I went to pick up my car today because the problem is beyond them; it's a dealership fix which is fine. HOWEVER, when I asked if my car was safe to drive (as in drive home and then drive to the dealership later on -again my car knowledge is minimal at best), I was given a condescending "it could be, it couldn't be, I don't know" response. And my car battery died while it was with them; I wasn't mad about it, I just needed help and I was met with a rude response of "you know it died yesterday too and we had to jump start it" ...okay? Also that wasn't mentioned to me during the initial conversation when I got there. I know I don't know a lot about cars but I don't think it's acceptable to be condescending towards people who don't have as much knowledge about cars as others do. If my usual mechanic tries to refer me to them again, I will be asking for someone else and won't be referring anyone to this place. read more

Okay, I didn't actually get any work done here - but I would have if I could have. I drive a European car, and the check engine light went off after an oil change. I drive by this place on my way to work everyday. Called them and explained my problem - the place where I usually get work done wanted $85 dollars just to check the code for why the engine light was on! The guy I talked to on the phone here was more than willing to check my light for free, and I told him that if they could do the work there I'd be happy to have them do it. Two busy weeks later and I'm finally able to pull into the shop. He remembered our conversation and hooked my car up right away. Let me know that he wasn't able to do the work for me, but wrote down the diagnostic code and recommended a mechanic in the area that did good work. Super helpful and very kind. Bob rebuilt the transmission in my daughters car 15 months ago. A few days ago my daughter experienced a failure driving. SCAMMER ALERT!! I may not know a about cars but I know a bull shiter when I see one. Bob did a rebuild on my transmission and 6000 miles later a seal goes bad where the axle meets the transmission. Should be under the 50,000 mike warranty but no Bib try's to bull a fast one. Says the axle is bad, $450 for new axle and $285 to install but he'll discount labor to $100. So I look online and find a OEM Honda axle for $180 and realized he's jacking up the axle price to cover the labor discount. The next morning before he starts work I called him a said never mind and took my truck to another michanic. This michanic says the axle is fine and just the seal is bad. Bob was just lying and not honoring the warranty. Everyone just be careful dishonest people everywhere!! read more

A very scary thing happen to me when I was driving home from Starbucks early one morning. I was doing about 45 miles per hour, and without any notice at all, my automatic transmission instantly went into neutral and I started to coast to a stop. I thought I was going to be stuck on the side of a very busy highway. Fortunately, when it got down to about 20 miles per hour, it downshifted into 2nd gear and I was able to limp home at about 15 miles per hour, I went online and checked out a couple of transmission companies and decided to go with Tech Transmissions in Livermore. This was by far my best transmission shop experience. Possibly my best auto repair experience. My Ford f-150 high gear went out a few years ago. Ford wanted to replace it as well as the next shop. What I was hoping for was to someday find a "Transmission Doctor". I swore the day would come when I get it fixed and would go see what Tech transmission could do for me. Boy was I glad I did. Brought it in late one afternoon and Bob told me that he would call me by noon to provide me the initial diagnostics. He put my car up on the lift, and actually showed me what the silly dealership was talking about. *READ BEFORE DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM* I have a 5 speed transmission "NV4500" input shaft bearing and bushing failed causing destroyed gears throughout transmission. Instead of taking apart and inspecting transmission... they started taking apart my Gear Vendors overdrive for no reason, adding to the hours of labor. Afterward, They sent tranny to some unknown shop in Hayward to install all internals. Trans came back and installed in my truck, price.. $4600... that was 2 years ago.. yesterday driving home my 5th gear nut came off and I lost 5th gear.. called the shop and they say "well we didn't do the bench work some other shop did and we put stock internals and those are prone to failure, blah blah blah" I asked "why put stock parts on if it's going to fail?" Tech didn't have an answer, they just got frustrated. I know 10 people off my head with 500,000 miles on their nv4500s with no issues.. this is the third time I'll be taking it out and apart. Tech Trans beats around the bush, they're an install shop.. not a tranny shop. I went over to Pleasanton Transmission. They gave me a quote of complete rebuild for 1/5th of the price, half of the down time and completely updated main shaft, lockable 5th gear nut and 5th gear nut retainer. If you want real customer service and an honest diagnostic, this is the place to go. These guys know transmissions! Took my car there to have it fixed, they knew the problem, set it up for next day fix, I dropped it off and it was finished that day. They do not overcharge and talk straight. I do not know what these other reviewer problems were, but I would not abide by their opinions. Bob and staff are wonderful, have tons of knowledge and are to be trusted with your trannie problems. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE!! I dropped of my fleet car to this location first thing in the morning on a Monday with a copy of fleet car and contact info ofcourse, person who got my info was not friendly at all, I thought he must not be a morning person, he did not ask me any question at all. So I got a rental car. I did not hear from Aamco till thursday , I am thinking they must be dealing with fleet since that is the procedure so I called them to see what is going on. Person on the phone said nothing was wrong with the transmission , car is parked in the lot since Monday and they also said I did not leave any contact info so they did not let me know. How is that?? I told them "sure I did" and told them this is not acceptable while car is sitting in the parking 4 days, fleet is paying for rental just because they couldn't hold on a piece of paper! They told me to pick up the car by 4pm. I left work early, picked up my child, went directly to car rental, returned the car and asked car rental to drop me off to the Aamco, they did. So I was there 3pm and Aamco was closed!!! other person who shares the lot with them said they all left. I couldn't believe it, they knew I was going to pick up the car. So I am standing there with my tired child with no ride. I had to call Fleet, to re-reserve the a car, asked rental to pick me up and start waiting under 93 degree sun, it was just a nightmare. This was my first time business with Aamco and I will NEVER go back there again, will tell people not to go, also I am writing up an official complaint to fleet so they never suggest that location to other fleet drivers. Now I have to repeat the same hassle tomorrow, I can't believe how irresponsible they are. I suggestion Aamco should train franchise owners on professionalsm. I am sure other Aamco owners are outstanding but really one bad apple spoils the bunch. read more

My teenage son had a little difficulty replacing his clutch on his car. He got in over his head and called to find someone to help him. I heard him talk to the folks at Tech transmission on the phone and he explained his predicament. They told him to bring the car and they could start it tomorrow. We had the car towed to the shop. Parking was bad so we had to park a bit away around the corner. By the time we w=walked in the tech was in the office telling us to get the 'Piece of shit of his property" We were like what? He said there is no way I can work on that car its a piece of shit what did you do to it. My son was trying to explain to him what happened and the guy was so rude and talked over him just kept saying get it out of here I cant do anything with that. I was so appalled at his demeaner. Luckily the tow truck driver still had it on his truck and we were able to have it towed to another shop w=that was willing to help. Really though it is not about the ability to help or not, it was about professionalism and kindness and understanding to the situation that was all wrong. About a year ago I had to get my clutch replaced, and not only were they able to fix it within a day, but they also called me a couple weeks later to make sure it was running correctly. I went in to get my tranny replaced on my 4runner. They did a free diagnostic and They offered to have my original rebuilt at a cheaper price but i opted for a reman straight from the stealership. They quoted me the best price out of all the shops in the tri-valley area and finished the swap quickly too! The tech that did my swap was filipino and had tons of experience plus with the reviews i read i was happy i made the right choice! My truck feels like its brand new and shifts super smooth! This place is great. I originally found it when my check engine light went on in a previous car. Bob read the code and sent me to a mechanic that could fix the problem. They are still my mechanic. I then purchased a new vehicle that ended up having to have the transmission rebuilt. He read the code that the check engine light was recording and explained to me what was going on. Gave me a quote. When the dealer wouldn't work with me on the reapirs he took the transmission apart showed me all the bad parts and the new parts he was putting in as well. Worked with me on payment options and also fixed a motor mount. I saw the broken one so it was bad. My transmission is shifting so smooth now and I'm greatful for someone who was honest after such a horrible car buying experience. Since I complain when I get bad service, I feel I have to promote those businesses where I get good service, and the guys at AAMCO in Livermore, CA did a fantastic job for me. I had some obvious transmission problems (slamming into gear in almost every gear) that the Pleasanton, CA Saturn dealer said would cost about $800 just to diagnose. With that seemingly high diagnostic cost, I went to AAMCO purely based on their TV commercials. The two guys I worked mostly with (Robert and Bob) were both very helpful, taking time to tell me what they thought the problem was. The technician (can't remember if that was Robert or Bob) said immediately that he thought it was the "valve body" and even knew the specific replacement kit. Apparently, Saturns of that age (2000) have a valve that regulates transmission pressure but the cylinder insert is made of aluminum, which obviously wears out faster than the hard metal of the value. Eventually, the valve no longer slides through the cylinder smoothly and you end up with symptoms like mine. I was given this diagnosis for $0 and was told that for about $300 I would hear the definitive diagnosis, which turned out to just what the technician said. I was then given an estimate of $2000 for the repair. After hearing the diagnosis and estimated repair cost, I called the local Saturn dealer and was given an estimate of $3000 for this repair. I went with AAMCO and was able to pick up the vehicle at the end of the next day. The transmission works even better than when I bought it (used) so I guess I was just used to it not shifting as smoothly as it could. However, when I picked up the car, there was "clunking" sound from the left front wheel well that wasn't there when I brought the car in. After taking it back to AAMCO Livermore, Robert told me to take it to another repair shop that specializes in suspensions and if the problem was something that they caused, he would have it fixed at his cost. It turned out to be a minor repair, but Robert paid for it without even telling me, so apparently, he thought it may have been caused by my original transmission repair at his shop. I know he could have stuck me with this additional repair, so I now completely trust his judgment, and they did an excellent job in repairing my transmission in the first place. Given their much better repair estimate and total repair cost over the Saturn dealer (and a 3-year warranty on the transmission repair) plus their honesty in paying for a repair that they could have dodged, I have to give them my highest rating. read more
