They said bring it in to get it figured out. I took it in that Friday the second that they opened. The guy said they'd look at it and get back to me with an estimate. I had to call at 3:15 to see what was going on. He informed me the tech JUST started looking at it a half hour or so before then and they'd call me back ASAP. I called back almost two hours later and asked what in the world was going on. He put me on hold, then came back and said they can't work with this brand of laptop! Why wasn't I told this the second I walked in the door, the first time I called after the technician had "started looking at it" or sometime in between?! When I picked it up right before closing, because again, I had to call to see what was going on, the laptop was in even worse shape than it was when I dropped it off, yet "they only searched based on the information on the back and never touched it in any other way." Bullshit. All of it. The You Break It, We Fix It computer repair was able to tell me over the phone it'd be next to impossible based on the brand for them to fix it. He saved me time, money and stress with actually taking a minute to look into it over the phone, unlike this Computer Shoppe, amazingly reviewed, repair that isn't trustworthy the moment you step in the door. He hung up on me after confidently insisting that no such feature has ever existed and that he was going to hang up if I kept "arguing with him" (by asking him to confirm it with a simple, quick web search), and that "anybody can put anything on the web". I would confidently insist, in turn, that insecurity and bluster are no replacement for an actual skill set and that uBreakiFix needs to raise the bar to actual competence when they hire people, or at least make sure they have the ability to do basic research instead of falling back on huffing, puffing, and impotently flailing.
