I initially arranged a local move within a 15-mile radius. I spoke directly with the owner, Jordan, Gillespie, who quoted me $160 per hour with a three-hour minimum, plus a $240 driving fee. I questioned the driving charge since it didn't involve any physical labor, but he assured me there would be no additional fees beyond that. About a week later, my move changed to a location only 5 miles away. I requested an updated quote, expecting the driving fee to be reduced accordingly. However, I was quoted the same $240. After I pointed this out, Jordan adjusted the fee to $160--still unreasonably high considering the reduced distance. But with my moving date approaching, I reluctantly agreed to avoid further hassle. On the day of the move, Jordan arrived with two other movers. He emphasized that I was getting a third mover "for free," though I soon noticed one of them had a leg injury and wasn't moving efficiently. They were slow in loading my belongings--even taking about 15-20 minutes to move between my apartment and their truck, which should have taken no more than 10. I had pre-packed everything myself into boxes, so the move should have been quick. My studio apartment included a couch, small dining table, bed, bookshelf, TV, TV stand, coffee table, and several boxes. I estimated the entire move would take no more than 1.5 to 2 hours. However, the job took 4.5 hours. The first red flag came when Jordan told me they'd take a 45-minute lunch break before heading to the new apartment. Then, after 30 minutes, I received a text saying the break would only be 15 minutes. That inconsistency was troubling. Once the move was complete, Jordan calculated the total time as 4.75 hours, deducting only 0.25 hours for the lunch break. He also added a $34 fee for packing materials--which I had never agreed to and didn't see being used in any substantial way. To make matters worse, he tried to charge me $180 per hour instead of the $160 we had agreed upon. I caught the discrepancy and insisted on a correction, which he processed as a refund. He also added a tip for the movers despite originally stating that no additional fees would be added. This experience left me feeling misled and taken advantage of. I was charged $898.15 for moving a small studio apartment--an outrageous amount given the agreed-upon rates and the minimal scope of the move. If he's charging $160 per hour, does he not pay his workers fairly? Is he profiting by underpaying them and padding the bill with hidden fees?

Estaban and Key showed up promptly and friendly. We had worked with Nicole ahead of time to get an estimate, who also was fantastic. What was surprising is the care they took for every item. We had pre-packed all the boxes, but they inspected each one, and if there was room, they placed crumpled paper in the voids to make sure the items were safe. For the furniture, they wrapped EVERY item in at least two-three layers of crumpled paper wrap to protect the finish. For the loose items we didn't trust ourselves to pack, they came with all the materials to make sure they were packed safely. They were courteous the entire process, and after NINE hours of moving the finished and looked exhausted but satisified with a job well done. I should also mention some of our furniture was HEAVY (like Piano heavy) and they bravely and skillfully navigated those challenges with mental and physical strength! In a couple years once we find our new place in Spain, they already have all of our goods CUSTOMS ready! We just need to call them with our location in Spain and a few months later our goods will show up in the same condition they were picked up in. I will come back to review once our items arrive in Spain, but I have no doubts in Hansen brothers as I used them 20 years ago for another significant move, and also had an amazing experience then. We are SO lucky to have a company like this (around for 130+ years!) to lean on for the REALLY hard job they do - at affordable rates.

They took great care with our belongings, wrapping all our furniture and even stopped at the transfer station for us so it saved us a trip. We had a tricky parking lot situation at the apartment complex being very tight and they handled it like pros. Our driveway to our house was partially blocked by a neighbor's car and they just worked around it. They worked very quickly and we were extremely pleased by their attention to detail. Start time for morning session is pretty set, but afternoon session can be early or late depending on morning session. We were lucky so originally we were scheduled for 3pm but they were able to come at 1pm. They were able to pick up from two locations for us, then drop at 1 location. They disassembled and reassembled some large items for us (desk, bed). The fee is by hour so you can ask them to do more or less depending on your budget (you could reassemble things yourself to save money/time). We were able to get a weekend slot just 5 days from time of first call.

What really impressed me was that we had a couple lamps with loose screws and were wobbly. We didn't mention it to our movers, we figured we'd fix them later. When the lamps arrived at our new home, the lamps were no longer wobbly. I asked our mover, Shane, about it and he said they noticed the lamps needed a quick fix so they tightened some screws for us. They did that without being asked. I know that seems so small, but we've never had a moving company go above and beyond like that. No damage, no scratches on walls, and they finished in less time than I was quoted. We hate moving, but these guys really made this day feel easy and smooth.
