    Loose leaf tea options
    Sierra W.

Tea lovers....this is a must!!!!!! I don't know why the heck I haven't stopped in sooner. Recently discovered this gem in U District and now it's my favorite tea spot to unwind and relax. The menu is extensive and has both caffeine and caffeine free options. The tea shop is across the street from Urban Outfitters store and right next to the Supreme pizza. Shop is very chill vibes with dim floral lighting and table, bar, and one couch seating. Shop feels intimate and cozy. I have come here to just drink tea and look out the window a few times now and it's a great place to unwind, read, do school work, and just breathe in and out. I truly love the atmosphere here and always feel welcomed and accepted. I have tried the loose leaf Oolong Ti Kwan Yin Iron Goddess Tea hot and the house specials Lavender Cream Earl Grey hot and both were amazing. They offer hot tea, iced tea, black tea, loose leaf, caffeine free, spearmint, peppermint, chai, herbal tisane, and much more. So many options! If you haven't stopped in to try something at Tea Republik yet...go immediately!!! Service is always friendly. I love Tea Republik and definitely recommend and of course I will be returning :)

This place is so underrated. The best TEA spot when you really want tea. The favors are so rich and there are so many options. Staff are always friendly here too. Great place to come get some work done. Although it could get loud sometimes depending on when you go.

The Homie and The Mom about to have tea (10/30/24)
    Marie B.

I just realized that after sharing a pot of tea with The Homie this evening (10/30/24), that I have never posted a review after many visits since 2012. It's been open for slightly longer than my first Yelp post. I'm now their 400th review. Like a previous published article, this is an OG indie spot befitting "Tea in a Coffee Town". This was well established before the prevalence of bubble tea specialty spots in Seattle's University District and other neighborhoods. Clearly, this has solid staying power. It is a nice spot as an alternative to coffee and has a modest pastry case to supplement your cup or pot of tea. The Homie's personal favorite shared with The Mom is also a Tea Republik best seller specialty blend, Lavender Creme Earl Grey. Tea Republik offers their signature blends, black tea, green tea, herbals, oolong, rooibos, white tea, yerba mate, and fruit tea. There's something bound to appeal during one's visit. Very chill vibe and pleasant counter staff.

The ambience is so cozy! The owner was so nice and took his time to explain the differences int he various options! He even brought a few out to smell! We got two pots and two iced specials and everything hit the spot! Definitely recommend this place!

Yum! I really like the unique flavors that they have and their creamy tea drinks! It's fresh brewed tea. I've came here a couple times before and the Pear milky tea drinks (there's a French name to it I believe?) is probably one of my top favorites. The interior isn't very bright but it's cutely decorated and couches as well as a good amount of seating area for people to study at.

Seasonal Rose Black Tea with Cream and Sugar (Iced)

I can't believe I haven't been here earlier! Tea Republik is a long-standing traditional tea shop in University District that serves freshly brewed teas fit for every occasion. With an extensive tea menu that includes both caffeinated and decaffeinated teas, hot and iced, sweetened and unsweetened, there's sure to be something for everybody. It was hot outside today (a rarity in Seattle!), so I ordered an iced drink in a 20oz. I opted for the seasonal special rose tea that has a black tea base. It was floral with a full body, and paired well with the cream and sugar. You can adjust sugar levels as you prefer, or opt for no sugar. The cream is already non-dairy, but if you prefer, you can also get soy instead for an additional charge. Each drink came in a cute glass and a paper straw. We sat there for two hours and drank it slowly, and the straw never disintegrated. If you feel overwhelmed by the large menu, you can always ask the staff for recommendations. They are very friendly and helpful, knowledgeable in flavor profiles and pairings. It is also a superb studying spot for students. Quiet and ample tables and seating, as well as wifi and outlets to use. The restroom is clean and there is free water dispensers as well. We enjoyed our peaceful morning chat here.

Really nice place to drink tea and work. There is a decent amount of seating and wifi. The ambiance is nice, and the teas were great too. We tried a peachy lychee that wasn't too sweet and was pleasantly fruity. We also tried a vanilla tea that was a little too sweet for my taste, but still could taste the tea flavors.

If I could give 6 stars I would! I will absolutely be back and soon. I think I've found my new favorite spot in the U District area. I come here regularly for medical appointments and also with friends for lunch, and I have tried every tea place in the neighborhood without exaggeration. This is my favorite spot hands down. The selection is fantastic! I also love the customization. The staff are super helpful with making choices about customizing and recommendations. It's also a super cute spot to sit and read or work, and to gather and chat with friends. I highly recommend it! As another note for the service, there was a homeless individual who came in and sprawled across their couch, made a mess, and became very loud and disruptive. The staff handled it with compassion and professionalism. Unfortunately the individual became combative and needed to be removed by the U District Ambassadors, but I was impressed by how the staff handled the situation.

My friend recommended this place after we finished a study session at the library! I love how it's open until 10, it makes it a solid place to study late or have cozy conversations with friends. The tea house has a really warm feel with the floral lamps and paper lanterns hanging down. We shared one of the house specials, the Thai tea with milk and vanilla ($8.50). It was hard to choose a drink since the menu was so extensive! It's a decent amount to share as we both had 2-3 cups each! I really loved the taste of the tea, I don't normally drink hot tea with milk but it's so nice and comforting. We ended up staying until they closed, and there was a good amount of people that also stayed until the end! A worker came and gave us a 10 minute warning but wasn't rushing us out at all. I think this is such a good spot for tea lovers or those that want a chill place to talk or read. But I would also say it's not a place meant for big groups, the tables are small and made for two people!

A friend at work told me about this place awhile ago sId they have the best chai. I like mine on the spicy side not sweet and the person was very helpful guiding me to make the right decision for my taste which was the Kama Sutra. They were very good at explaining when they brought to the table that the longer it steeps the spicer/stronger it would be. It was empty when I first walked in at 11am but filled quickly on yesterday. I got the smaller pot which was more than enough for one person. Space is cute with pretty lanterns as lighting. Very warm and welcoming space.

Out of all the "boba" places in U District, this one is my favorite because they actually appreciate tea and its brilliant flavors. There are a lot of options and many forms to enjoy tea. Plenty of seating, though not a lot of chargers. The interior is cute and it's a nice place to relax with friends.

    Celina K.

Been here a few times and enjoyed my experience each time! I'm a huge tea fanatic, and their tea is so good. The Lavender Cream Early Grey tea is delicious, both hot and cold. Love this place for studying or catching up with people because of the dim atmosphere. Staff is always so kind. I noticed the prices went up since the last time I went, around $8 for a medium.

Do they have food, or only beverages? I've seen a couple reviews mentioning food but can't find any information about what kind.

You really can't go wrong with any of the drinks but my all time favorites are the tieguanyin oolong milk tea with toppings and the strawberry milk tea, which I believe they have now rebranded to strawberry smoothie. Sugar is adjustable which is great because I love my drinks less sweet. I got the strawberry smoothie and bff milk tea this time, which I believe is black milk tea with egg pudding and grass jelly, and I added egg pudding. So delicious and creamy, and the smoothie does not give off an artificial fruit taste. One thing that was off-putting to me was the signage indicating their kiosk. The makeshift, handwritten message to turn around and use the kiosk seems passive aggressive and gives off the message that the workers do not want to talk to you. Other than that, we got our drinks pretty fast since it wasn't busy near closing, which was when I went.

After ordering, I went to the lower level to find seating. It was upon entering this room that I was greeted by a sweet meow from a little cat. Her name is Miu Miu, and this is her house. She promptly followed me to my table and after testing me out, made herself comfortable in my lap. This series of events was so unexpected, yet so welcomed. As for the lower parlour itself - it also serves as a museum, giving history of this landmark. It has an authentic antique charm with comfortable furniture and decor that invites you in. This tea room doesn't try to be anything it's not, and that's what makes it so special. I lost track of the time I spent here enjoying my tea. The barista reminded me twice that I can get more hot water for my tea whenever I was ready, so I did, getting the most out of my loose leaf tea blend. There are only positive things to say. The bathroom was clean and spacious, the interior might surprise you in a good way, the prices were more than reasonable, and it's a place to find peace. As part of the Uwajimaya food court, it's easy to get in and get out or grab a drink for the road, plus there's validated parking. They also have sandwiches, soup, and donuts. I'd stick to just the drinks though. Plenty of other options in the food court. While I thought some drinks were good, I thought the overall experience was average. I ordered on at 5pm on a weekday and noticed the "Happy Hour Specials" so I decided to also snag a sandwich. Well, that advertisement was a lie. Their menu advertises 20% off for the combo of a sandwich and a drink while their digital screen shows 10% off with a soup (without the limited happy hour). In the end, I paid about $20 with tax and tip for a sandwich and a drink so they clearly did not honor the happy hour. It's not much at the end of the day, but false advertisement is a bad user experience. Overall, the service is very mediocre. Menu does not make it evident that sugar and ice levels can be adjusted and the employees cannot be bothered to ask. Same with any milk substitutions. Once you receive the drink, it's evident that sweetness can be adjusted at least, still unsure about the ice. Plus the experience with the combo showed apathy. Turkey Grilled Cheese Sandwich - I had ordered food before but saw the happy hour and went for a sandwich. My other food was ready quickly while this grilled cheese took close to 25 minutes. My drink was ready 10 minutes before so I was just left waiting. It's a solid sandwich with a strong amount of cheese but lacking in the protein. Not worth the price. Uhi Empress Milk Tea w/ Boba - first of all, boba is pretty solid. Flavorful with fair sugar coating and chewy, only lacking a bounce. Uhi is another purple yam like ube but originates from Hawaii. Flavor is very similar, so ube and taro enjoyers will appreciate this drink. Jardin Pink Milk Tea - as one of their signatures, I knew I had to try it. The flavor is a watered down lychee jelly and while lychee jelly as a topping tastes fine, this liquid form just tastes off. Not very sweet as a drink but also lacking flavor. More like water with mashed up lychee jelly without the texture. I would honestly never get this drink again, but the others were good. Banana Breeze Milk Tea - good old fashioned banana milk! If you've ever had the little cartons or banana milk tea from a spot like Boba Guys, this is very similar.
