Now this is an excellent tea purveyor. They have a ton of types of teas, including rarer ones like yellow teas, aged shoumei and plenty of other white tea, along with the standard selection of high quality loose leaf. The staff and shop as a whole are super welcoming. It's totally unlike the more traditional Chinese tea shops that I sometimes find intimidating to enter. I was initially enticed to go due to their free educational tea tastings, ending up going to the Earliest Harvest Tea session. For this class, we were able to try six different types of tea, brewed in French presses. The teas aren't brewed that precisely - the leaves kind of just sit there, but somehow I didn't feel like anything was particularly overbrewed. My tasting notes (for personal reference) are as follows: Silver Needle - This was picked in Spring 2025. It's grassy and smooth with a bit of a honey essence. There's a bit of astringency due to the French press method of brewing where the tea remains steeping through several tasting sessions. Shoumei - This one is 19 year aged. Not much smell in the leaves, perhaps a bit of sweetness. I've never had this tea before, it's amazing. Such a rich and smooth body. It tastes kind of herbal and medicinal, but way better. I ended up buying a puck of this for $41. Jasmine - This one is of the biluochun style with a bug bitten tea leaf base. It's so fragrant with jasmine it's almost like drinking perfume. There's almost a little nutty in finish. The taste really lingers in the mouth. Dragonwell - This one was just picked a bit past tomb sweeping day. I've also never had this tea before. The leaves smell mild with a small bit of grassy and smoky aroma. It's another ridiculously fragrant tea in taste with a sharp grassiness and very sharp sweetness with a very harsh astringency. My tongue and mouth instantly felt like puckering upon the first sip. SFTGFOP1 Darjeeling - This one is a first flush with a strong malty smell. The taste is very bright roasty and somewhat astringent but spiced flavor. It finishes with a somewhat raw peanut type of flavor similar to a strong Ceylon. It gives a somewhat milky mouthfeel. OP1 Ceylon - Another first flush. The leaves smell really sweet and the taste is lightly sweet with a deep earthy and raw nutty flavor. I can definitely see this tea going well with fruit syrups or infusions. They also have a warmer on the side every day with a sample tea. On the day we went it was the Enshi Yu Lu, which I found to be super honey forward, slightly grassy, very sweet, with only a light astringency. We ended up purchasing the aforementioned shoumei puck and also a cup of the HONEYFAIRYLAND, a yellow tea that we've never tried before: HONEYFAIRYLAND, 12oz Hot ($4) - This is brewed at 175 degrees for 2 minutes. It has a very light smell. Interestingly enough, I feel like the flavor is more similar to Ceylon given the raw nutty background vs. the white teas. It's definitely less oxidized in taste and is quite a bit sweeter. The owner just oozes tea knowledge. She's so enthusiastic about educating people and sharing her insights, it's quite something! I love this tea shop! I'm planning on going to more of the tea classes and trying out a bunch of other teas. The large selection of true teas at Friday Afternoon means that there is always something new to drink. Bathrooms - Single unisex room. Last visit was back on 12/10/17, so it was a pleasant coincidence and spontaneous return visit on Friday afternoon on 1/9/26. The Homie and I shared a 34oz French press with Earl Grey and The Homie also had a Jammy Dodger cookie from La Liath Bakery. Good to see that the tea shop has an even bigger selection of teas featured. Plus I saw other business collaborations with La Liath Bakery baked goods and Cocoa Legato chocolate bars. Despite having limited indoor and outdoor sidewalk seating, it remains welcoming and conducive for hanging out. Great for meetups, quiet time, enjoy checking out their board game collection, and even has a neighborhood food drive/pantry section. Very LGBTQIA+ welcoming destination. Notable was the very nice counter person who provided helpful customer service to all who stopped in during our visit. Also, while I was posting photos on Yelp, another Yelp Elite from Florida sent me a message mentioning that her daughter had just ordered from Friday Afternoon. Great place to get tea. I love the backstory about the founder, and I find that they have a lot of interesting blends and non-blended teas. I appreciate that there is a focus on sourcing and ethics behind each of the teas they carry as well. Super LGBT friendly and from the flyers, seems to be very community oriented. Note they are still enforcing a strict masking policy, at least when I went last week. I admire the efforts, although once you order tea you're free to take your mask off and sitting there for hours in conversation/with mask off while sipping team, it largely renders these efforts ineffective. I think the policy can generate heated situations for customers - although I personally was not involved, on my way out I heard the cashier using a really unfriendly and rude tone towards a customer who hadn't positioned their mask on properly. It immediately made the environment unfriendly and polarized, which had I still been staying, would have made me and my friend feel uncomfortable in the space. read more

I recently learned of this place through Eventbrite (they offer various events at the cafe and definitely recommend checking out their upcoming events). In particular, I learned about their chess club and decided to give it a try. Chess club was super fun. It was a relaxed and laid back atmosphere. 4 of us showed up, and one of the barista's was super helpful at explaining the rules of chess and offered to play with us as well. We ended up getting our iced tea and playing chess outside bc it was a nice evening out. The tea was phenomenal and they had a good variety of flavors. The barista was also helpful at helping me narrow in on what I want (ended up getting a tropical fruit tea and 10/10 would recommend!). Overall, lovely experience. Can't wait to go again! read more

We go to the NW tea festival every year and drink tea daily. It sure is fishy that EVERY single review except this is 5 stars! We had a super weird experience. Staff was not friendly. They didn't acknowledge us for quite a while- no hello, no goodbye, we had to ask to even order anything. The tea was nothing to write home about. The interior was bland and not well thought out. They are really good about accommodating my allergy. Their staff are delightful people who are all really knowledgable about the teas they sell. The shop is very cute with plants, fairy lights, and displays. They have a good amount of tables and chairs for hanging out by yourself or with friends. Several of the folks I've talked to who work there are friendly and it's a cute space with a nerdy/queer vibe. I've gone in sometimes just out of curiosity to taste their teas that day, you can ask them for recommendations if you're indecisive like me, and they'll let you taste ones on their shelf too -- makes me think of an ice cream shop but for tea! I like tea and their tea selection is really fun! I'm not a tea connoisseur though and when I realized they had cream (dairy and non-dairy) and sugar it was a game changer. XD They don't have a ton of seating, but they have some inside and a bit outside (I don't remember how protected from rain it is though). I often walk by and see a group of people playing a game together inside, so maybe a good place for a board game / D&D group? read more

They were super-helpful picking out teas as a gift for my brother, and the atmosphere in the store is cozy if you want to read a book or chat with a friend over a cup. They might ask you to mask up in store & will kindly provide a disposable mask if they do. They have rotating seasonal options as well as year-round blends. I particularly love their more unusual brews, like the ones with tomato or chilis. I've found some magical teas there. I look forward to the winter rotation! I was sad when I could no longer get my favorite Earl Grey Oolong from Miro, and I actually spent some time trying to figure out where I could get it. This is basically my favorite Seattle hangout, and as soon as covid is over this is the first place I'm going to plop my butt in. It's a super queer friendly supportive environment, the place is open, brightly lit, and comfortable, especially with the new renovation and paint. Also there's a lovely board game library. The tea itself is amazing. She has way too many teas in stock (it's a good thing) and she is super knowledgeable. Her classes are great, and now that she's doing them online they are much more regular. The tea variety is super wide, mostly focused on the middle and upper middle end of overall tea quality. She doesn't specialize in the fancy oolongs and puerhs, but there's still some Really Good Stuff here, including stuff she imports directly from farms she has contacts with. Oh and the shop is Latinx owned, and she is super great with all the teas in this place being ethically sourced and undoing the damage the international tea industry and the associated colonialism has done around the world. So that's pretty rad. read more

One of my favorite tea places. I am from Chicago and I heard about Friday Teas from a few friends. I snagged a few samples (which last 3-4 brews, really!) and I was immediately hooked. When you go in or if you contact them and aren't sure what to get, they'll help find the perfect blend for you. Their blends are fun and different but they do have a few classic tasting ones, too. The teas last way longer in terms of re-brewing and how many cups you get per oz. Their staff have always been so sweet and kind and ready to help! I. love. tea. When I heard about this place from my coworker, I knew I had to try it someday. And then I did. I spent a Saturday afternoon huffing all of their tea. We came in hoping to find Friday, the owner, but unfortunately she wasn't there. We had heard she can work magic with tea blends and can make recommendations based on what you'd like to target (ailments, taste, etc.) The guy behind the counter, Greg, was such a sweetheart putting up with me and my girls. We literally asked to smell every single jar, and there are a lot of jars! There are even some that aren't displayed in jars (i.e. They had an oolong strawberry blend on display, and I asked if they had a pure oolong. They did. It was just hidden in their cabinets). My girlfriends and I each picked tea blends we wanted to taste test and ended up having a little tea party. We each walked out with a couple bags of loose leaf, and a couple months later I'm almost out of two of them and will need to go back shortly for another haul. Friday Afternoon also offers custom blending (at a price) which will then go on file once you create that perfect blend. I'd definitely like to try it someday. I came here on a Saturday morning around 9:30 am, and it was absolutely empty. I'm not sure why, because starting the morning with some good tea was great before a walk in the Arboretum. There's a good variety of teas, and though I consider myself a tea person (vs coffee), I'm not really a tea snob. However, I smelled quite a few different teas and ended up with a Chinese variety composed of individually rolled leaves. I'm not a huge fan of tea blends in general, but there's definitely a selection of plain vs tea blends at Friday Afternoon. Possibly one of the best things was that they are dog friendly. I was out that morning to walk my dog and fully expected to leave her outside for a moment while I got tea, but to my surprise, I could bring her inside and relax for a bit. They supposedly also have a house dog, but he/she wasn't there when I showed up, which was too bad. read more

I've ordered lots of their tea online and love stopping in to pick it up in-person so I can 1) save on shipping but also 2) get a recommendation from staff for a new tea and get a cup to-go. Super cozy vibes, wonderful staff, adorable social media presence, and of course amazing tea with such a wide variety! I also love the fact that they support small farms and tea businesses around the world.
