My husband and I were in town for a friend's wedding. We stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel, and saw this restaurant attached/affiliated with the hotel. We decided to check it out for Breakfast. The seating is really unique, all with rounded "C" shaped white booths. There weren't many people in the restaurant (only one other group of people), so the hostess (who was also our waitress) told us to sit wherever we would like. The menu is a little limited, but that is to be expected. The waitress (Jodi) informed us that they just revamped their menu as of last week. Jodi was super kind, very friendly, and went above and beyond for us. She always made sure to top off on our coffee/juice/water. She also gave us a lot of extras (free of charge) which was very kind and appreciated! I was pleasantly surprised by my french toast's presentation (it looked/tasted delicious!) The only minor complaint I have is that there were a lot of small fruit flies/gnats flying around the table/during our meal. Double Tree needs to decorate and paint their pub- it was like sitting in a hotel's banquet room for office meetings. Super-bland interior made it distracting. Bartender was cool and food was decent (I had the Beyond Burger which was really good), hence the 2 stars. We weren't rushed and the place was pretty empty. read more

Overall *** I didn't go in with the highest expectations but I do like to try new places. The Service and Food certainly exceeded but when I hear "Tavern" I think dark, cozy atmosphere with lots of wood and not the sterile, too bright atmosphere here. The price point is also way too high to really warrant a return visit for me. I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to avoid Tavern 17 but I also feel they are in a tough spot as it is harder to fix the things they don't do well. Setting ** In my opinion they did a pretty horrid job turning this former Boom Burger into absolutely nothing resembling a Tavern. The white molding on top of grey walls, the white ceiling tiles and the track lighting immediately let you know you are in a low budget hotel restaurant. The space is pretty large as well which further detracts. There is no obvious entrance and they share the bathrooms with the hotel lobby and it seems neither party cares for them. At 6:30 Thursday on a late Summer evening it wasn't very busy with maybe 4 tables in the dining room and 14 people at the bar. We thought they all looked like hotel guests. The saving grace is lots of TVs (they say they will have the NFL in the fall) the large square bar that opens to the large outdoor, partly covered, patio. The bar has windows that roll up so you can actually sit at the bar but outside. They don't allow dogs on the patio though and the highway noise is constant. Service **** Our bartender was very friendly, offered up suggestions with ease and seemed proud of the restaurant. One minor hiccup is it took nearly 30 minutes for our simple order when the place was empty. Food **** The menu is really small and not overly interesting but it does cover most bases. We split the Grilled Chicken Club on griddled Sourdough which was really good. It comes with the most interesting fries I've ever seen, sort of a twisted, thick chip but they were seasoned perfectly and crispy. Value ** For an unknown restaurant located inside a hotel this price point is not going to help. A small G&T $12 is ridiculous, nearly all the "Sands/Burgers" are around $15. What a joke. This place is not ready to be open. Walked in with my kids and wife. Waited 5 minutes at the door as two staff members walked by me. Finally I had to ask if we seat myself. It didn't make sense because there was only one table and about 7 people at the bar at 6pm but guess they were busy? After we were seated we waited about ten minutes before our server came over. He had no idea what he was doing. Waited about 15 minute for drinks and he forgot my beer. I had to go to the bar to ask the bartender. Guess what he had no idea how to pour a beer. He filled one glass up then another glass and proceed to pour back and forth until there was no more foam. Guess he doesn't know that is happening because the keg is warm. Still served me a warm beer which I sent back. Food was ok ordered a med rare burger was served well done. When we got the check it took the manager 4 times to correct our bill which she finally was so frustrated she comped our bill. I visited here in a rainstorm on a warm summer night. It was an oasis in a storm. Leah was our bartender, but she was more the life of the party. The drinks were cold and came fast. Leah dealt beers, whiskey and food faster than a black jack dealer in Atlantic City. The food is excellent, the staff is charming and Leah runs the bar like a maestro. This is a place to visit often you will not be disappointed in the atmosphere, the food and beverage and the charm of Leah snd the staff. Get in here....this place and the staff is fine!!! read more

I really, realllllllllly try to not write negative reviews because of my experience working in restaurants. But wow, this place was ABHORRENT. We came in and were one of three tables total for the length of time we were in there (spoiler alert: we were there for a long time). There were two employees visible, one bartender and one server. We sat in the lounge area, waited about ten minutes for menus, about another ten minutes for our first drink order. We put our food order in and waited 45 minutes for our appetizers to come out. Not only did it take a long time but the orders came out incorrect (croutons on salads where they asked for none. Small, easy modifiers). Spinach and artichoke dip was essentially spinach and artichoke soup, just very poor food for the higher price point. Next we waited about another 25 minutes for our entrees. More than 50% of them came out wrong. Burgers asked for medium rare came out well done, missing sides, one person in our party didn't get their food because the server forgot to ring it in and he just left. One of the worst parts of this nearly 2 hour ordeal was that we did not see a manager until the end when she was taking off the food that wasn't rung in until the server realized it was missing. We found out that she was one of the bar 'patrons' sitting at the corner of the bar! That is a HEINOUS way to run a business. Clearly we were waiting an absurd amount of time, a manager check of some sort would've made us feel a little bit better. But no, sitting at the corner of the bar is DEFINITELY the way to handle a table having a very poor time in your restaurant. Also, as a former server, leaving your server out to dry like that is shameful. In short, this place will not, and should not last for very long at all. Hopefully the next place will be better. If you were thinking of coming here, do not. I am clearly not the only person to have a poor experience based on the other reviews. We went to Tavern 17 Aug 3 during the soft opening. They're clearly not ready for a grand opening. The drinks took a long time. The beer tap system was not functioning properly. Instead of offering a bottle of beer, they just said nothing. When I went over to the bar and asked about the beer they said the beer was fine, the tap system just wasn't working.... We waited about a half hour for fried calamari. The portion of fried calamari is very small. My chicken Parm meal was adequate. The chicken was undercooked. The Pasta that came with the meal Was not very good. The hamburger meat was OK but the patty was very thin. We went here after a wedding, the manager tried to close early even though the bride and groom and made arrangements with them making sure they would be open until two they over charged us were rude and tried to close early a second time. I can't believe how bad this place was. Walked around the place, no staff other than bartender and server so I sat myself. Both were nice enough, but the waiter was well over his head with 3 tables. Chicken egg rolls had no chicken, french dip looked like dog food, steak frites was pre-sliced steak cooked to death when ordered medium rare , and the aoli the fries were served with was horrendous. I had high hopes for this place, but don't see any help in site for it. First off, having a waitress or hostess sitting with her feet up as you walk in should give you an idea of how the night will go. We got seated, waiter came over poured water and said I'll be back shortly to take your orders. We looked over the very limited menu, and decided on the calamari and wings to start, than ordered two salads, and than got a burger, chicken sandwich, French dip, and steak salad. The calamari was tasty, but a little greasy. The wings were ehh, definitely have had better. The salads didn't come until the entrees were served which is a little atypical when you order a house salad along with your entree. So you got to choose between having a burger get cold, which I should mentioned had an odd taste to it or let the salad get soggy. The steak salad was alright, I will note that the table next to us ordered it as well and got a bigger portion which goes to show no consistency. The chicken sandwich had no flavor and didn't come with the avocado that is stated on the menu. When we asked for it, the waiter asked us if we requested it, it's on your menu it's supposed to come with it. He must have been frazzled cause he had to get his boss who just looked at us and asked if everything is alright and left. We finally finished dinner after 2 hours of being there. There was only 4 tables in the entire place which begs to be asked if they were killing the cow or the chicken to make our food. Finally the check came and we had a coupon (only reason we tried this place) but the waiter left and never came back until we got up to leave. Had to calculate out own discount and leave cash. Definitely not a place I would recommend. This place took over from Boom Burger... I hated Boom Burger, and wish that's what we had tonight over Tavern 17. read more

Had high hopes that this place would be a breath of fresh air after Boom burger went out of business and they did extensive renovations. Gotta say- it looks a lot better from the outside and the decor was cleaned up. That said, everything else was atrocious. The server was clearly very inexperienced and spoke so softly we couldn't understand half of what he said. There are about 5 apps and 10 entrees on the menu and he didn't know what we were asking for when we ordered! He had to look at the menu to write it down. Also- my beer was served slightly warm and with a STRAW and my husbands Old Fashioned cocktail was served up in a martini glass (very wrong) and was extremely watered down. We ordered an app to share (sw egg rolls)and it came out with one of the entrees (miso salmon which was chewy and over cooked and super salty). The other entrees finally arrived and each was more disappointing than the next. French dip? Awful. Chewy and salty. Buffalo chicken wrap? Terrible- worst I have ever tried.
