Came here on a Sunday 8 pm so it wasn't crowded. There were so many tempting items on the menu and I'll be going back to try other items. We started with the country chip and while they were thin and crunchy and enjoyable, I'll skip them next time. My son and I shared a Meatless Wonder which was amazing: sweet and savory with nice crunch within. We also split a Steak and Gorgonzola pizza. The cheese had a nice bite, the steak (one piece per slice) was well seasoned, and the bacon had a wonderful sweetness. In short, it was outstanding. They keep about 12 beers on draft and have a number of bottled beers and wine too. Both beer and wine can be ordered as a flight so you can sample many. Im definitely go back to try more from the menu. read more

We had a lovely date night dinner at Tavern 109 and will be back! The location in the center of quaint, friendly downtown Williamston is nice. We parked on the street in front but saw people entering through a back door as well so there may be parking in back. There are two rooms: the first is attached to the open kitchen and has standard tables. It's rather noisy but comfortable. The adjacent room has a bar and high top tables and is noticeably quieter, if you prefer that. Both rooms are tightly packed and hard to walk through at times. Not a complaint but worth noting for anyone who uses a walker, wheelchair, or needs someone assisting them when they walk. It would be hard to walk side by side through the dining room. We sat near the kitchen and didn't mind the noise, as it afforded us some privacy when we talked. Our server was friendly and efficient. Our food was fantastic! We tried the pretzel stick appetizer, which was even better than we anticipated and came with a delicious, creamy fontina dip as well as a slightly spicy honey mustard. Both were excellent. We shared a cup of tomato, basil, goat cheese soup and both enjoyed it. My husband loved his mushroom burger and my fish and chips were excellent. The fries are nice and salty. We were too full for dessert but there was a nice selection on the menu. There was also a children's menu with the standard fare. Our total bill was $42.00. I was in town for a horseshow and they closed at 11. I hate being that person that comes in within an hour of close. But I'm glad I did. The service was good, and food was clearly made fresh and fast. I went with a beer but the bar looked very well done with a good cocktail selection. I'm not sure why they weren't busier, maybe just an off night in the summer. Either way it's definitely a great local place with a very welcoming vibe. read more

Celebrated our granddaughters 16th birthday!! What a fun evening from the delicious food we had to the private back room. Wonderful service, great environment and easy parking. I absolutely loved the carrot ginger soup (NEVER get rid of this please! I'll be back for more.) Quality ingredients and food was prompt. The only complaint was from my fiancee who had the Risotto. It was delicious, but didn't specify on the menu that it contained goat cheese. It's a rotating feature so I completely understand why, but perhaps it might be good to explain it in more detail on the features menu. I didn't have a great experience here. The restaurant itself is a nice, exposed brick and wood floor kind of place. All the surfaces are hard so it can get quite loud. I ordered the Lobster Mac n Cheese which was enthusiastically confirmed by our server,. The dish arrived at a tepid temperature at best which made it a little gaggy to eat. My Manhattans were mostly ice. The Peanut Butter pie was very tasty. Our server was nice but a little scattered, and slow to come around. My dining companion had the house-made Black Bean burger which she enjoyed. One other odd thing was being asked how quickly we would finish our meals and leave because they had a large group coming in for the table we were sitting at. 8 feet away was an empty table that was not reserved and remained empty the entire time we were there. annette and kevin came to visit today to bring me some furniture and help me attach my tv to the wall with one of those arm thingies so i can pretend i'm a real grown up with a tv over my fireplace. we wanted to eat before trying to do any manual labor and i thought it would be nice to kill 2 birds with one stone (brunch + cocktails) so i suggested tavern 109 in williamston. it's one of these new american type places with the whole wood floor/exposed brick/big windows things going on. i enjoy that kind of a vibe. the cocktails were great. kevin and i got the bacon infused bourbon manhattan and it was good (i did think it was a little strange that it came on the rocks but that's probably for the best at 12 pm anyway). annette's bloody mary was delicious and had a bunch of nice snacks on a stick (cheese, pepperoni, olives, pickles, celery, etc.). annette and kevin got the chili and really liked it. then annette and i got the ham and cheese sandwich which is basically a croque monsieur on white bread and it was delicious. we also got the macaroni and cheese and it was fine but nothing to write home about. kevin got the shrimp po boy and he ate the whole thing so i'm assuming he liked it. worth noting is that kevin made a fuss about not wanting brunch and they let him order off the full menu so that's nice. service was ok. the server didn't come by very often and we had to wait a while to get things like cream and sugar for coffee, the bill, etc. maybe they were understaffed? we were in the second room so we couldn't really tell how busy it was in the front room. overall i think this is a decent brunch option although it is a bit far from lansing. the menu included both whitefish dip and chicken and waffles which made me happy even though i didn't order any of them. and there was an amazing draft list but that seems to just be the norm around here. read more

I live in Williamston and have been waiting for this place to open for over a year. The builder did an amazing job restoring the building and is worth the stop to check out. They have Michigan craft brews on tap an a large selection of bottled beers and other drinks. I have had the Pear Pizza, Pulled Pork Sandwich on Pretzel Bun and the Lobster Mac & Cheese. Not bad, not great. The atmosphere is super cute and warm, and the service is fine, but I just wasn't wowed by anything that I had (except the peanut butter pie--that was really good). I had the spinach dip (meh), the pretzels and cheese (a little bit better, though the cheese was watery), and the Drunken Onion (meh again). I will say, though, that their fries are really good. While I wouldn't rule out coming here again, if I found something better in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to go there instead. read more

As a native daughter of Williamston, I was really thrilled to visit and find Tavern 109, a stylish restaurant in a gorgeously-restored building. Everything was on the mark: the space is beautiful--high ceilings, dark wood paneling, exposed brick, large windows overlooking downtown; the food is delicious--fresh, local, creative, cooked just right; and the drinks are great--local craft beers on tap and craft cocktails. The bartender knew his stuff and and made perfect drinks with a understated flair. The place traffics in a whimsical, old-timey flair expressed in details from early 20th century stenciled signs to leather club chairs and a large rack of antlers mounted above the dining room. My multi-generational family, who had Sunday dinner here, is really picky, and they were happy. I'm a foodie and very picky, and I was happy. This is just the kind of place Williamston deserves and is a much-needed addition to the restaurant options in town as well as the greater Lansing area. When I visit from Washington, DC I'll gladly drive from Lansing to go to dinner here. Compared to DC the prices are fine ($10 for a cocktail is normal), and well-worth it--especially considering that you're supporting a local business, not some junky chain. Pretty cool little spot. We had the fries with garlic aioli shaved Parmesan and truffle oil. Very good. My wife had a hoe gaarden beer that she liked and my captain and coke was so weak that I will not waste my money trying it a second time. The waiter was nice. We were waiting for a show so he brought our check early. Very cool little spot in the middle of Williamson. Nice brick inside very big city with small city charm. Just need to find a bartender that knows how to use a jigger. Weak drinks means people won't buy booze. Everything else was great. read more

Stopped for my first visit on 1/25/14 and was very impressed. We called ahead when about 30 min. away and the a Hostess put our name on the list. We got right in and I really loved the atmosphere throughout the pub. Our waitress was spot on with recommendations and was excellent throughout our meal. Among the three of us we had Fish & Chips, Salmon, and Mustard-Crusted Whitefish. All were excellent and it's obvious the cooking staff knows their stuff. We also enjoyed the nice selection of local craft brews...great variety. All in all an excellent visit and I would highly recommend Tavern 109 to anyone looking for a casual meal whenever you're in the Williamston area. I can't wait to stop out again! read more

Easy to miss for Metro Detroiters or Lansing residents, but well worth a stop. Food: Stumbled into sunday brunch and tried the chicken & waffles. Chicken was tenders and wet-battered (unusual in my experience), but featured excellent flavor and was very moist. Waffles weren't as crisp as I would have liked - maybe could have benefited from more time in the iron? The dish was accompanied by real maple syrup and a bacon gravy that was delicious and really displayed attention to detail. My other gripe, if any, would be the complete lack of anything green on the plate. Bar: Full bar. There were some unusual bottles and interesting infusions (bacon, watermelon, and one that I cannot remember). The beer selection was solid and tended to focus on some of the better Michigan brews out there. Specialty drinks featured some of the house infusions but liquor selection in general was pretty standard Service/Atmosphere: Sat at the bar, where we were well taken care of. The bartender was attentive and very friendly; she also took fairly seriously the art of mixing drinks. The chef came out during a slow period and was sure to mix with guests and ask about the food - he seemed to really care about the dining experience. Not sure how many more opportunities I'll have to try this place, but I'd definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a good meal. read more

We had a wonderful meal tonight! Our waitress, Miranda, was absolutely delightful. Between the 4 of us we had the calamari for an appetizer, tasty. Entrees were; the shrimp and grits, which was suggested by our waitress, amazing! Spicy but savory. The carrot and ginger soup, delicious. The walleye filet, yum. Truffle fries, a must! She recommended the lemon and blueberry mule, really good! House salads were fresh. The meatless wonder sandwich had caramelized onions on it, so good! One of the best meals we've had there. I went during restaurant week with a bunch of friends and the results were mixed at best. This was my third time trying the place and it will also be my last. I decided to not go with the prix fixe menu and just get a burger. Upon recommendation of the server I got the "bacon plus". While it was a reasonable burger, although small, it really was really overpriced at $14! The bun was not very substantial and the goat cheese overpowered the rest of the taste. Oh well. Maybe a 3 star burger. Others at my table ranged from ambivalent to unhappy with their food. My girlfriend ordered the "beef tip" salad and the meat was overcooked and there was barely any feta! Another did order of the prix fixe menu and tried to return her filet because it reeked of lighter fluid. The waitress came back from the kitchen and said that the chef said that they all smell that way and did she want chicken. WTF?? She went with the risotto. Regarding service, it was also not very good. We were a group of 15 split between two tables and it took three hours to eat! We made the reservation two weeks in advance and confirmed the day before and the day of the dinner. Management should have allocated two servers to our party instead of the one we had. Although our server worked very hard, she was clearly overextended. Drinks went unfilled for large parts of the meal and rarely was anyone asked how was their meal. Often requests had to be made several times. How sad since the town is picturesque and the inside of the restaurant is beautiful with exposed brick and a gorgeous bar. read more

Wow. We came here for dinner with friends for what seems to be an annual dinner in Williamston. I'm always shocked that this tiny town you never hear of has such brilliant restaurants. We had one vegetarian, one gluten-free and one seafood allergic in our group but the waitstaff was well-versed in the menu and there were more than enough options for all of us. Besides an excellent selection for any dietary need, the beer list is phenomenal and the space is beautifully appointed, clean and well kept but not pretentious. We sat in the bar area which was a little noisier than the dining room but in a good way. The acoustics of the room work to keep things at a decent volume but the energy is great. We need to come back again soon and also grab dessert... I'm sure they're great. read more

Williamston is a pretty cool small town, with new restaurants and bars in renovated buildings. One of the newer establishments in Tavern 109. Everyone in the party enjoyed their food and drink. The prices aren't rock bottom, but they aren't a rip off either. On the day we were there, they were advertising a food and drink pairing that sounded excellent, for $55 a person. If it worked out in our schedule I would have gone for sure. read more

Enjoyed dinner here. We sat in the bar which was really nice. I had the sirloin steak which was really good. The salad was really tasty. If I recall correctly there was sliced pears which went really well with the dressing. The other folks at our table had a burger which looked really good and a pizza which looked really good as well. Overall a nice experience, nice and warm decor. Not too loud even though we sat in the bar. We'll definitely be back again. read more

We live in the area and have visited a few times. Typically good service, had a bad experience in the summer months with fruit flies all over the bar area. It appeared they cleared up the problem on subsequent visits...my guess is the house made drink containers they have in the bar area with a lot of sugary liquor concoctions are the root cause. read more

The server was awesome and super attentive, didn't catch his name though. However the food was horrendous, we tried the Mac & Swine and it was litterally just macaroni noodles and soggy pulled pork. No flavor what so ever. Absolutely over priced. We all went there starving so ended up suffering through it after not wanting to wait any longer but I definitely think the food here is way over rated. Cheap ingredients, poor execution and way overpriced. I also got the sweet potato mash. It was inedible. It tasted like mashed ginger with a hint of sweet potato. Awful. They serve one of the best veggie burgers around. It is very fresh and the guacamole is a delicious touch. My spouse loves the steak and Gorgonzola pizza. Try them for brunch also - one of the few in the Okemos/Haslett/Williamston area. read more

The food here is wonderful! The menu has changed once since I first started coming here over a year ago, but they always have hearty rich food combinations and seasonal drink infusions that are great combinations. Personally it is hard not to leave the place without a shot of their bacon Makers Mark. This place has steadily earned each star over time as I have gone here. read more

Just had lunch there. Great menu, food & service! Very eclectic menu. Have to try the pear pizza.

Long way to go, short time to get there... Here are the list of things that went right/wrong: Drinks were slow. Bartenders seemed unsure of how to make the house drinks. (side note: having the cocktail how-to books on the bar does not breed confidence -- just saying). They also seemed like they could not be less concerned with getting drinks out fast. With as many people as were there, they should have been sweating. 2 of us ordered cocktails and just a small thing here.... always put a small stir-straw in a cocktail...everyone else does it and you should as well. Soup: The beer cheddar soup actually beat the drinks to the table. Problem with this was that the soup was the 3 degrees cooler than lava so you could not put the fire out in your mouth if you wanted. Soup had to sit for about 5-7 minutes before you could attempt to eat it because of the temp. After that, the salt level was on par with the original temperature. Needs work. Appetizer: Shrimp and Grits App was good. Nice job with this dish. At this point, we believed that things were turning around. More drinks. Ordered another "Dirty Goose" a.k.a. vodka martini... and this had no olives in it...had to approach the bar to get them and that was 5 minute wait. Also of note, the drink is supposed to have blue cheese stuffed olives per the menu, but there must have been a shortage that night. Main Course: The pork TENDERloin was just shipped in from the Detroit Red Wings game where it was used as a puck. They were 2 thin cut TENDERloins and they were cooked to the consistency of jerky. That poor pig lost his life for this!The lobster mac&cheese goes for just under $20 and it had about 4 small chunks of lobster in the giant bowl of noodles. Send help! Noodles everywhere! Chaos ensued: As we were struggling through our dining experience, 2 of the tables around us were also having issues. All of us spoke with the manager and it simply is what it is. The night was not lost as we left for another spot. In the end, the Tavern 109 experience was bad. If they can work out significant kinks, they may be able to make it, but they better do it quickly because there are 4 people in my group that won't be back. read more

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, good crowd not packed. Greated by a very cheerful young lady and seated promptly. Server was very up beat and knowledgable about the menu. I had their smoked turkey and bacon panini with pesto. Served grilled and came with a choice of side, so I opted for the side order of mac and cheese. Delicious flavor, fresh ingredients, and portion size was appropriate. The mac and cheese was smooth and creamy, served with a topping of home made bread crumbs that were toasted. The decor was very nice and hip; simple and yet elegant, the interior was very sympathetic to the historic nature of the building. Bathrooms are clean and well cared for. Overall all appearance at lunch time was clean and tidy. I will certainlly be going back. read more

We had high hopes for our dinner last night but were terribly disappointed by awkward, slow service at a high top in the bar. 2 hours on a slow Sunday for 2 salads, a pizza and chili Mac was too long. The arrogance of our server was enough to put me over...maybe it was just due to having been a server myself? But, challenging my father with a glib "I just assumed you were satisfied with the beer you selected" when he simply asked if our server had had a chance to ask the bartender if they had any Sam Adams bottles seemed to be the straw that broke the camels back for me. Is it that difficult to say, "shoot I totally forgot to ask, let me go find out?" This is also coming off of a previous experience of getting snoozed and watching others get served for 15 minutes at brunch and ultimately leaving about a year ago too; maybe that's why it's ultra scathing. I'm sad because the food is fantastic, but the service has been and continues to be appalling. Maybe we'll Try take out if we try Tavern 109 again. read more

Me and the Misses went for a little date night out of town to Tavern 109. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. My wife ordered their Apple Allspice Martini I had a sip and was really good! I had a M-43. We ordered spinach dip for an appetizer which was very good with homemade chips. I had the chicken and waffles and my wife had the lobster Mac and cheese. The chicken was beer-battered making it perfectly crispy and juicy, the waffle was light and crispy. It came with both maple syrup and bacon gravy which was nice to dip back and forth. The Mac and cheese was also delicious but it had lobster so it's pretty hard not to be. And for desert we had the deep fried apple. Which my loved but was kinda a miss for me. The service was top notch! Prompt and polite as it should be. Overall had a great experience! On the pricey side but a good value. Our bill came out to around 90$ for that feast with tip. I left stuffed and satisfied. Definitely going back and would recommend it. read more

Had lunch today with a customer and really enjoyed this restuarant. It has decent atmosphere and appointments, and the food and menu is good. I had the Cuban sandwich for lunch and it was tasty, but I wanted to have the Mac & Cheese dishes. Had I had my wife with me for dinner, I would have chosen the Krack Chili Mack. This will be worth a RE-visit to try those dishes. read more

What a find!!!!! My wife and I headed over to East Lansing to take our daughter and her boyfriend to dinner. A little tired of the options right around MSU campus I found Tavern 109 through Yelp and boy am I glad. Easy drive right down Grand River and 20 minutes your in quaint downtown Williamston. Tavern 109 has a great lively vibe, service is quick and friendly but the star of the show is clearly the menu. I don't want to make this review too long, so Just let me share if shrimp and grits are still on the menu when you visit go for it. Tavern style. The rest of group had a turkey sandwich, burger and Swine and Mac and all loved their choices. If your headed to East Lansing make the little drive. read more
