Very excited about going here as we read the reviews beforehand. We got the flawless bison burrito, chili and sloppy Joe. The sloppy Joe had no sauce and just a small amount of bison. The chili was bison and pinto beans with no tomato base, no vegetables and no flavor. The worst part was that the burrito was just the chili inside of a wrap. They added about 5 or 6 dices of onions throughout the whole burrito. There were no other veggies. Finally, the pickle they included with the sloppy joe was extremely soggy. We paid $31. read more

This is my favorite place to eat in all of Tacoma. Oh yes. Not only is it absolutely delicious, it is healthy for you! In the years that the place has been open for business, they've never had to once scrape the grease off of their ceiling because the only meat they use is buffalo, which has less fat than Turkey. The place is a dive and has tons of buffalo paraphernalia to keep you interested while you wait for you order. My favoritest item on the menu is the "Flawless" burrito. It's a little spicy with the awesome garlic sauce that they make and sell. You can also purchase buffalo meat there in different forms like sausage, steak, or grounded. So I've never actually been inside Tatanka, and so can't speak as to the service or the ambience, but one night at work when my pharm tech suggested we get take-out AND offered to go pick it up, I was sold :) I tried the bison soup and the red skin potatoes with cheese and garlic hot sauce. SO GOOD. I can't believe I'd never tried bison before. My only complaints were the portion sizes - my soup was a tad too small (it was so delicious, I wanted more), and my potatoes were humongous! Holy carp, three meals worth of potatoes. Next time, I'll share with someone. read more

What an interesting Tacoma restaurant! I'm not even sure how to describe this place. But, I'll try. It's a little kitschy, a little hole in the wall, and... Filled with bison-related decor! I ordered the taco salad, which was basically nachos with some lettuce on top. The bottom layer was tortilla chips with their bison chili and melted cheese. Then he added taco salad toppings to the mix. This was amazing. No complaints here! My husband had the bison burger, which he said was very good. This was a bit expensive, though. I'd eat here again. TLDR: Sandwiches were not quite as expected, but we'll definitely be stopping in to try more menu items. I've been wanting to check this place out for a long time and finally called in a take out order in our way out of Point Defiance Zoo. I'd like to eat in next time as the menu seemed more complete and descriptive in person than what I can access online. The gentleman who took my order and rang it up when I stopped in was friendly, and informed me of some fun things coming up like take-and-bake bison lasagne. Sounds rad. We ordered the bison melt, bison joe, spuds, potato salad and roasted veggies. The bison joe was not what I thought, although it was good. I had imagined essentially a sloppy joe with bison meat. What it is: bison meat, grilled onions and green peppers, ballpark mustard, and mayo served on a good burger bun. Surprised, but not disappointed. The bison melt had a good sauce on it. Wish it was served on a heartier bread. Maybe Texas toast. Would be worth an up charge. House-made potato salad would be accepted at my family reunion so that's a definite win. No sweetness, dill pickles. The spuds are perhaps a little too soft but fried and very well seasoned. Roasted veggies were great. Served with a cup of surprisingly spicy/garlicky marinara. Next time, I suspect I'll try the chili and I'm very interested in the lasagne offering. read more

I've been coming to Tatanka for at least 5 years. Every time they never disappoint. I've had the HUUUUUGE burritos and of course their bison burgers. There shakes are out of this world. If you come here get a shake please. The owner is a very chill dude and very friendly and engaging. It's a very peaceful CLEAN place to enjoy a homemade meal. Tatanka is home to buffalo burgers, wraps, and basically all other versions of buffalo one could want. They make a seriously delicious buffalo burger, with some great fries. It's a small place with a ton of little knick-knacks (and other food to order, I hear they do great vegetarian, too) but perfect take-out to take down the street to Point Defiance for an impromptu picnic. Prices are under $10, the staff is colorful, I only wish they were open past 6pm! read more

I will never go back to this place again. I have been there several times during what is supposed to be business hours and they are always shut. I finally got there a few minutes before they were due to close at their usual early hour which makes no sense being that they serve food so you would think they would be open around dinner. Anyways I was shocked to see the open sign on and people inside so I decided to give it one last shot. As I walked up to the door a girl came and locked it with no expression on her face and just turned her back to me and shut the open sign off. It's businesses like this which are the reason Ruston is failing. It's too bad it's a cute place but it's a total waste of time since all the businesses are inconsistent and overpriced. read more

I live close by here and always drove by this place. Since my son is a new vegetarian, and I love Bison, I figured we would stop by and try it. My son loved the Veggie Burger, I had the regular Bison Burger, and I thought it was real good. The potato Salad was amazing! the chef was super nice and pleasant. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars was because it was a bit pricey. We have already came back a second time, so the price isn't keeping us away all that much. Tonight was my first visit to the quaint hometown establishment. I enjoyed my visit very much. The young man behind the counter was pleasant and you could tell he knew what he was talking about. I recently started the Whole30 and can't have sugar,dairy,soy,wheat or anything besically we love to eat but shouldn't.. before choosing a date night location I scanned menu's of various places in the area.. Tatanka is good right there when you order and when I asked about seasonings the cook/server was quick to answer and quick to comply when asked if he could not use one of the seasonings. I ordered the Bison Burger with no bun and no thousand dressing. He put extra tomatoes and lettuce on the plate. If I ad known that I wouldn't have had the side salad on the side. Of which I again asked for no dressing. He offered me some olive oil to drizzle on it based off of what other customers had done. I felt this was truly going above a typical server attitude. My husband also had the Bison Burger but with some grilled mushrooms and cheddar cheese and a bun.. and the spuds.. he enjoyed his meal and wants to go back and try the bison melt.. After reading reviews and the menu, I was under the impression this was more of a healthy restaurant. When my bill was $40 for takeout without drinks, I thought this better be good. Basically, you're not getting why you pay for. A very small hamburger part that was frozen, thrown into canned chilli is not health food. I honestly got sick after eating a few bites since my diet is closely monitored, and consuming GMO hormel chilli with a frozen bison patty doesn't constitute healthy. The taco was okay. But my daughters $6 kids burger with no fires or drink was more of a mini slider. This place was not only a $40 disappointment, it's false advertising and should be investigated for fraud. In all other respects a mediocrity: hours, amenities, service, sides, seasonings. Take out so not much seating. Not good for groups. Not worth a second visit. read more
