We were going to Poquitos on Division but looks like that place fell prey to the Tacoma curse. A lot of places don't hang around too long and that spot in particular has seemed hard to keep in business. But then we looked cross the street on 1st, where there used to be an Anthem, and even though it was already 6pm, this sandwich shop was still open and...there was a BINGO game happening. Whaddya know? So we took a peak in and they were not only serving sandwiches but they also had a cooler full of microbrews and kombuchas, beer on tap, wine, and a whole list of cocktails made from prosecco and other non-hard liquors like Amaro. Truly something for everyone. So we gave our order to the sweet human at the counter and took our seats I'm not kidding, my Amaro sour was one of the best cocktails I've had in a while in Tacoma and so were the pretzel sticks. I want my cocktails cold, tart, and refreshing with a little kick of funk or herbs and I want my pretzels salty. You wouldn't think that's such a high bar to clear but you'd be surprised. Sandwich Starr nailed it. Our Zatan sandwich was tasty but even though the bread felt a little stale. Otherwise the decor is kinda '90s coffee house and they've got bingo! Overall, this is an odd spot but the drinks are really good and it's got heart and it's the heart that makes it Tacoma. read more

I was really looking forward to checking this place out for the first time, but unfortunately, my experience didn't quite meet expectations. The staff was kind and welcoming, which I appreciated, but when it came to the food, I left feeling pretty underwhelmed, especially considering the price. I spent $31 on one and a half sandwiches, and while the flavors were decent, the portion sizes just didn't match the cost. It felt like I paid more for the vibe than the meal itself. The bread itself was fresh and soft, but I feel like I took a couple of bites of rancid meat that left me feeling anxious about if I'll have food poisoning. I spat out more than I ate and the pickle on the side was brown and have the essence of cinnamon. Super weird. And they were red flags before I even ordered because there were 2 OLD cannolis sitting in the display area. We stopped by and tried the Iocane, and it was perfect--fresh, crisp vegetables, incredible meat, and bread that had just the right texture. Daughter and I were looking for a quiet place to sit down and talk while having a snack after a walk through the rain at Wright's Park. We saw this little sandwich shop we hadn't seen before and decided to check it out. The atmosphere is very nice, casual, and comfortable. It looks like it would be good to sit and do homework, have lunch with some friends, or go to a casual brunch with family. There are lots of seating choices: a couch and comfy chairs, high tables and stools, and regular tables. One table had a puzzle started you could work on and there were lots of games and books you could use. You order at the counter, they deliver food to your table and there is a place to bus your own table. The beverage menu included coffee and alcoholic beverages. They offered sandwiches, crepes, pastries and soup. We ordered coffee, a pastry, soup, and order of crepes to be eaten there. The coffee was fine served in a nice mug. The cookie was large but packaged in a plastic bag that would have been ok if we had been a to go order. But we were eating there so we either had to put it directly on the table or on the plastic bag. The tomato soup was very tasty, creamy with a little kick of spice. It had occasional chunks of tomato and visible pieces of basil. All of this goodness was overshadowed because it was served in a small ramekin, the type cooks use to portion food when they are preparing a recipe. It appeared we were getting a large taste of soup instead of a cup of soup. For some reason I assumed the savory crepes would be fresh and warm, but instead my order was made with premade cold crepes loosely wrapped around the mostly cheese filling. Taken as a whole we left disappointed. The atmosphere was nice enough that I will try this place again and try something else. My lovely guncles picked up take-out for us to eat in the sunshine at my backyard picnic table and I'm so glad they did! We cut the four half sandwiches into fourths so everyone could try them all and they were wonderful! All of us were impressed with the crisp crackle of the baguette, the flavorful meats and the funky and fun toppings! I think we had a Chidi, a Johnny, a Starrk and a White Rabbit and they were all delicious. We also shared the Balsamic Brown Sugar Cheese Bread as an inside joke! I made my uncles a 'cheesy' once-a treat my mom learned in 1954 at the UW pi phi house... sandwich bread with miracle whip, a slice of American cheese and a sprinkle of white sugar that was broiled until golden. Your version was waaaaaaay better! We'll be back and are looking forward to trying your breakfast sandwiches! I ate half, which was very filling, and took the other half home to my husband. Even he was impressed by the sandwich after it had sat cold for a couple of hours. I noticed some reviewers are unhappy with the prices, but I found them to be reasonable. A business isn't going to survive in today's economy if they undersell their product. The prices are too high for the amount of food you get. They skimp so much on the meats and cheese as it is and you have the option to pay more for toppings, every time I've given them another chance I pay double for "extra" toppings and its still small portions it's annoying.
