The food is fantastic. The flavors are definitely there. Went with my parents and brother for my birthday. I ended up getting the 2 meat combo, sliced brisket and pulled pork with Mac & cheese and loaded potato salad. Definitely loved my food as there was nothing left on the plate when I left. They have a hand washing station next to where you take care of the trash which is nice so you don't have to go to the bathroom, which requires a code that's on your receipt. The reason I marked the service down was that went out food came out they brought my parent's food and my brother's food out and then went back to the kitchen. About 3 minutes later they finally brought my food out. I know what you are saying, it's only 3 minutes but if everything on the ticket isn't ready why is the kitchen sending the food to the table? Then later on instead of bringing the food out to people a girl was just calling out names and expecting people to come and get their food. Not sure if that's their standard of service or what but when you are spending upwards of $40 a person a plate I'd expect a bit better service. The atmosphere def was a BBQ joint, but the music was more of a modern pop where I would have expected country, rock n roll, rockabilly or southern. Best bbq I've had in a very long time! We drove over 50 miles to have dinner with our youngest son. This is where he chose for his birthday. Glad we got to see experience this. It was great! Husband and I shared the 3 meat combo. We chose brisket, ribs, and chicken. It came with 2 sides. We chose the cold slaw and bbq beans. We added 2 cornbread muffins with honey butter. We did our best but we still could not finish. We also chose the Pete's BBQ sauce although they had several different kinds of BBQ sauce to choose from. We ate in so the food was brought out to us. The service was great even though it was mainly self serve. The place was very clean. Several long tables and other plenty of seating. Lots of different drinks to choose from including sweet tea, and lemon aid. Bus your own table, and a hand washing station which I was glad to be able to use. It this was not so far from home I'd probably come more often. Oh, did I mention the complimentary soft serve ice cream with several different topping? Maybe next time I'll try it. As others have stated, I would put this place at 3.5 stars but will round up. The place is on the pricey side for what you're getting. I ordered the BBQ brisket. It was sliced super thin (think deli meat) and was on the dryer side. The star of the show went to the cornbread.... Wow that was good! My wife ordered the pulled pork and she loved it. I was very surprised. We were in the area for a dental appointment and was starving. So we were driving to see the options, when we notices Pete's. I had never heard of it so we decided to go in. To be honest it is kinda spendy, for our party of two I spent $70. We ordered the brisket sandwich and fries, another sandwich with two sides - baked beans and fries. Then I ordered a single hot link and we had two fountain drinks. Now I'm not going to lie the fries were super hot and the sandwiches were great. The baked beans were really good as well. BBQ Pete's is a great restaurant where you can get some of the best BBQ in Washington. It is not quite as good as what you get down South, but still very good and perhaps the best I have had in the area The menu offers a lot of items. I had the pulled pork sandwich. The pork was cooked really well and I liked the sauce--a bit on the sweet side, but that is how I liked it. I also had the beans that were very good, nice and soft with a strong flavor of pork. I also tried my wife's spare ribs. These were also very good, perhaps not with the smokiness I was looking for. The sauce was a good complement to this also. 3.5 stars but I will round up. I have been here several times since moving to Washington. Sadly west coast BBQ is just not as good as East coast (or Texas but that would mean going to Texas...). Friendly service, huge servings and hot and fresh food. I got the wings last time and they were pretty good. Great BBQ, service was quick, and everything was tender and flavorful. I really liked their sauce bar and free unlimited ice cream bar. I didn't see on their menu where you could just get brisket, or chicken or a specific meat, but it may have been there and I missed it. We got the three meat meals with the sides of Mac and cheese, baked potato salad, and baked beans. I'm not gonna lie, I miss the ladder with the honey drop from the OG BBQ Pete's on Portland and 72nd. It was such a mesmerizing experience as a kid. That being said, the food is good. It is a bit pricey. $4.59 for a cornbread muffin. Don't get me wrong, the muffin makes me happy and is tasty. But it's a bit much, I should really just up my game and develop the skills to make my own delicious little cornbread muffin lovelies. The atmosphere is laid back with the sauce bar and pickles. This lactose unfriendly girlie did not partake in the free soft serve, but the wee humans would be all over that and so would the lactose friendly adults. The variety of sauces you can dispense yourself is good as well. I ordered the brisket sandwich. Just not impressed at all unfortunately. It has enough meat, the bun was soft. The flavor was not that good to me. This is my third visit and I've just felt their food is ok. Service was ok. Overall nothing stands out about this place except their prices. Note: sides are $5.49, see pic of fries, urge bag was about 1/2 full. This includes a cornbread muffin or side of coleslaw. They have complimentary ice cream but if your not paying attention you may miss it as no one mentions this. The interior photos on Yelp don't do the space justice. It's actually pretty cute inside, especially when it was decorated top to bottom for the holidays! I love the sauce bar, the complimentary ice cream, the window seating, and the wide hand-washing station to clean yourself off after a messy meal. It's always a little strange when the dining area is well-themed but the brightly-lit stainless steel kitchen is exposed and visible. The menu seems to be about twice as large as it needs to be, since many items seemed very similar. We got the Smokestack and the Sandwich With No Name and while they were both delicious, the difference between them was subtle. When you buy a sandwich, you can choose two sides to go along with it. One of my sides was wrong, but they were gracious about fixing the order for me. It's an order-at-the-counter joint, but it's priced closer to a tableside service restaurant. A dollar or two off the meal pricing would be a bit fairer. I can imagine this place is great for parties, but the long communal tables make it a harder sell for a couple's meal. read more

I would say that it definitely was not worth $60. The food came out questionable quick and seemed pre made, so it wasn't super hot or fresh. He and I did enjoy the pickles! Stopped by after reading reviews. I'm pretty sure I've been here before but did not write up anything. This time I had the rib tips, muffin, baked beans, and a side salad. The tips were terrible. Hard, chewy, and over sauced. If their rib bones are this tough then no thank you. The baked beans has a lot of stuff in it. I didn't see any burnt ends or brisket chunks but I did see a few slivers of meat. All in all I ate the salad and muffin. I tossed out more than 1/2 the tips and all but two bites of the baked beans and went to bed hungry. Not a good experience. read more

I am updating my review!!! Way to go BBQ Pete's, over the last few months food has been amazing. The smoked and fried chicken wings are so delicious. The dry rub is a tad bit sweet but the tender Smokey yet fried crisp is well worth it. Also, adding hot sauce calms the sweet. The burnt ends are on and off tender one time the next not tender however, still delicious. They even added chocolate syrup and sprinkles to the ice cream. BBQ Pete's was an local institution in my younger days. The restaurant was really owned by a guy named Pete, who fired his barbecue with red alder harvested from a location he would never disclose. The original restaurant off 72nd and Portland Ave was dark, which made the feats of the servers who climbed ladders to deliver honey over their shoulders to dishes on your table even more impressive. That BBQ Pete's is long gone. For you locals who remember the old place, do not expect to rediscover the past here. Beyond the Puyallup Fair sauce, this is BBQ Pete's in name only. Here's why you should go anyway: it's good. The ribs are smoked better than most places in town. The chicken is good. The standard sauce served with the ribs is good. If you want variety, the modern Pete's offers a variety of sauces, including Puyallup Fair sauce, in self-serve warming vats. (Nice touch.) The menu itself is not particularly expansive but you do have choices. The beans are more like a sweet chili with ground beef; I have had that style in other local joints and I would rate these high on my list. My wife had mac n cheese as one of her sides. It was tasty and it was very rich. She had to order her cornbread muffin as her second side (unlike the old Pete's, Texas toast is offered standard here). It was huge and I was happy to liberate some from her plate. The honey butter was the perfect touch. Don't forget the complimentary cup of soft serve vanilla ice cream. This is a BBQ joint, not a $$$$ dining experience. I'm not going to turn up my nose at complimentary soft serve ice cream. Please.
