Like the restaurant's name, Hangari Kalguksu makes amazing and comforting Kalguksu, in particular…read moretheir Spicy Seafood Kalguksu, which is the option we ordered. We got the large which was more than enough for our party of 6. It is made up of anchovy broth with shrimp, half of a crab, mussels, clams, zucchini, kabocha squash, & potato. The shining star of the show for me, however, is Hangari's Bossam that is made up of boiled pork belly served with crunchy bite-sized cabbage, pickles, and sweet and spicy radish. I think Hangari Kalguksu should change their name to Hangari Bossam... Hahaha!!! I'm just kidding, but yes, I think it is that good and so satisfying to make your own personalized Bossam bites (wrapping the meat in cabbage and adding toppings to it) that I like to eat along with the banchan they provide which includes Kimchi. If you drink alcohol, it pairs well with sips of Makgeolli and Korean beer. Not mixed together, but sipped separately and taking turns between bites. I feel it really enhances the flavors of the food. Eating all of this simple yet decadent food and throwing back the Makgeolli and beer in between bites kind of transported me to how I imagine the royalty feasted during the Joseon Dynasty! At the end, I was so happy, satisfied, and luxuriating in my fullness!!! I didn't want to get up and end this feeling of bliss. We never felt rushed, but I'm so glad we got there before the dinner rush because as we walked out of the restaurant, the line outside the door was getting very long. Make sure you get there before 5pm to have a better chance of getting seated right away and to avoid having to wait in such a long line. This is in fact a popular dining destination for good reason.

We went on a Sunday afternoon, and there was a decent line outside the restaurant. However, the…read moreline moved quickly. They handed out menus and took your order when you were close to the front. Once seated inside, they welcomed you with their signature banchan dishes: the nutty boribap (보리밥), which tastes great on its own but even better with their yeolmu kimchi (radish water kimchi). There's also their tasty radish kimchi and napa kimchi. Throughout the meal, they replenished our banchan multiple times without us asking. We tried two of the new items: Galbi Kalguksu: A delicious, deep-flavored bone broth with knife-cut noodles, shredded fried egg, sliced radish, and scallions. The meat fell off the bone, and I loved the broth, though my husband thought it was a little on the saltier side. Perilla Oil Makguksu: Cold buckwheat noodles in perilla oil. Mixed with sliced shiitake mushrooms, shredded perilla leaf, gim (seaweed), sesame seeds, and scallions. It's a deliciously light refreshing dish if you don't want the heavy knife-cut noodle dishes. Last, I ordered the Non-spicy Seafood Kalguksu. It comes with a anchovy broth with a lot of seafood flavors. It's a lighter broth than the galbi but still rich in flavor. It came with clams, mussels, shrimps and 1/2 crab. There was also sliced pumpkin and zucchini. Everything tasted great. Their servers were very attentive and generous with replenishing the side dishes, and overall it was a wonderful experience. If you see a line and don't mind waiting 15-30 minutes, it moves pretty quickly, so don't be deterred by it.

The hot and sour soup was thick and chunky, just how I like the soup. The scallion bread sandwich with 5-spice beef was distinct. The bread was perfectly baked and the beef was flavorful and juicy. There was both mustard greens and pickles that gave crunch and acidity to balance the meat and bread. The lotus root salad was refreshing while still having a kick from their in-house chili oil. Dan Dan noodles were also excellent. Fresh cucumbers, chewy noodles, flavorful sauce. Hearty portions with enough for a lunch the next day. Also appreciated the speed of service. Lines move quickly and food comes out quickly. Looking forward to my next visit!

Competition for dandan noodles is tough so do give this place credit. It is still solid bc you cannot really mess dandan noodles. Five spice beef clamshell bun $6.5: Forgot to take a photo because i scarfed it down! Now this, I would come back and order again. Their beef is well seasoned, marinated and extra tender, not dry. Since they can make their beef this good, they should consider making Taiwanese beef noodle soup.

A lot of people seem to order their food to go, which honestly feels like a smart move since the wait can sometimes be a little long. That said, the food is worth waiting for, and the pricing is very reasonable for the quality and portions. Parking is available in the shared lot for a $3 fee. Overall, LEE GA is a great spot for flavorful Korean comfort food, whether you are dining in or picking up an order to enjoy at home.

While the broth was tasty, it wasn't cold :( Kind of defeats the purpose, especially when you're waiting in the heat for a table and the room itself was pretty warm. Banchan was pretty limited as well, with just two Kim chi types and cucumbers with samjang. The highlight might have been the ribs, which are not LA style but full bone. The bulgogi was pretty tasty as well, but serving was really small and the daengjang soup not all that great. Loved the purple rice though! I do like that they offer free tea, but is offset with the charging of to go boxes :). I realize it's only $0.50, but it did keep me from ordering an extra dish which would have guaranteed the need for containers. Thankfully we only needed three :). Parking is valet only and the place was packed even though we chose an off peak time of 2:00pm. $3 isn't bad, but even valet had a hard time keeping up so keep parking in mind when visiting.

Freshly made udon. Nothing goes better than this…read more My second time here. And this time we tried the duck udon and sea urchins udon. Both are excellent. The sea urchins one is creamy and VERY RICH. The cream sauce bend in really well with the sea urchins. But definitely not something you would order if you are on a weaker stomach. The duck udon is flavorful with plenty of meat. The soup pair perfectly with the udon as well. There was a line outside before it opened. But not too bad. They got a little eating area outside right next to the street and I saw people ate there with their dog as well. I guess that they are "kinda" dog friendly?

Udon noodles were good, but it was not excellent. It did have light chewy texture. BUT in comparison to Meiji Seimen, it fell short, really short! I was disappointed. BEEF BOWL It was delicious! Beef was tender and moist and loved the caramelized onion too. Rice was delicious too, not dry nor mushy. Served with pickled red ginger. A very satisfying bowl. Sat at the bar, so watched them make udon from scratch, which was nice. WAIT LIST There was a line when I got there, just as it opened. It wasn't long, but everyone wrote their name down on a wait list. There's a sheet of paper placed on the table outside. Please write your name down ASAP, as that will help in making sure that you will grab a seat. Also, the lines are disorganized too, so it's best to write down your name, so no one cuts in front of you. It is a small restaurant. Limited seats. CUSTOMER SERVICE It was okay. Everyone got in the restaurant in the order they came in. Service was quick and there were no delays in taking orders. The server came by quickly and dropped off the check as she saw that I was nearly finished with my meal. PARKING Parked at Joe's Autoparks. It was $15! I did not know until after I paid the ticket. Very difficult to find parking in this area, so not many options unless you want to walk really far, back to your car in 90 degree heat. There was another parking garage next to Joe's, but the price was the same! Would I come back again? Not sure. Given that the udon wasn't what I expected, it may be my last time here. Also, parking sucks.

They currently have a great deal at $12, which makes it even better value for what you're getting. The sullungtang comes with rice, soup, and two types of kimchi. Service was friendly and efficient, and the whole experience felt easy and satisfying. Place was chill, not too overly crowded. We also added beef brisket since my friend wasn't a big fan of cartilage - more for me! The pot itself wasn't too deep, though there was a good portion of protein cartilage. Also important to note that rice was NOT included! The brisket add on came as a pre-cooked brisket that was added in after, as it didn't initially fit in the pot. The staff member told us at the time that broth refills were free. However, when it came time for refills, they said it was only one time - poor communication. Paying was fairly straightforward, but for future visits, I'd likely just come for their lunch special sullongtang after this experience.
