We found Brolin Build and Remodel through our architect son, whose employer often hired Troy for…read morethe building portion of their work for clients. We recommended Troy without reservations, and have shared his contact information with our HOA, personal friends, and work colleagues.
Troy's work is top notch. He designed and built a custom cabinet wall for us that is now the showpiece and center of our home. He also supervised the entire re-piping of the home, and rebuilt the bathrooms from the wall studs out, including custom showers. In addition, he sheetrocked our laundry room, repaired bad texture work from a less pleasant kitchen remodel ten years ago, took out the 1970s brick on our fireplace and retiled it, and installed a new sliding glass door. We're very meticulous people, and Troy exceeded our expectations.
Given the extensive nature of our remodel, Troy was also willing to work in tandem with us. We often prepped things and did the ordering for supplies, and we had projects like deck staining and wall painting and replacing light switches going simultaneous to his work. He consulted on choosing design elements, lent me an amazing pair of fencing pliers while I was pulling 1200 square feet of icky carpet, and consulted on the prep work for us to lay plank flooring after he left.
I'm a homemaker and homeschooler with two kids still at home, and we didn't have our usual schedule of activities this summer to keep us out of the house. We've been living in each other's pockets with Troy and his assistant since mid-June and we just like them more and more. Not only is the work produced amazing, but they are excellent company. I'm pretty sure they wore work books with extra squishy insoles so that they don't stomp around and disturb the peace of our day at home. They ran a tidy job site with things put away at the end of the day, masking plastic up when needed, and all cups and garbage taken care of. Even though they encountered several situations in which they questioned the sanity of whoever built this house, and had to pivot to do more prep work before continuing with their plans, Troy was never outwardly frustrated or upset. They even spoke to each other quietly, listened to their music with earbuds, and took phone calls outside. They are patient communicators with each other, and with us.
Although these personal skills might seem less important than speed or skill, even smooth remodels can be stressful. The fact that we sincerely liked having our contractor around, and trusted him, made this an overall wonderful experience. We also appreciated that Troy respected that we love our home -- even though our 1970s split level isn't glamorous or fashionable. I think as a young father, he feels in his bones that home is where you raise your kids, and make your memories, and it's a lot more than walls and floors.
We're going to have Troy back in the winter to repair the laundry room shower waterproofing, and we will continue to promote his business at every opportunity.
