    Menu Page 1

I tried this restaurant late Saturday afternoon. There were not many customers when I was there although several people did come in to pick up food. There is a fairly extensive buffet or you can order off of the menu. You can see from the pictures of the menu that the buffet has slightly different offerings every day. Although I didn't eat from the buffet, I did look at it, and it included soup, several meat options, several side options, plus pita bread and what looked to be rice pudding for dessert. It was extremely clean And the food looked fresh. I ordered one of the "make your own" bowls. I opted for yellow rice and chicken kebabs, with tabouli, hummus, and cabbage slaw. Ratings: Chicken kebab -5 Rice - 4 Hummus - 3 (no pita bread) Tabouli - 1 Cabbage slaw - 3 Presentation/Serving size - 4 Overall, I would give the meal a four. The chicken was excellent and it had several large pieces of white meat chicken. It was well seasoned and well cooked with a slight char on the edges. The rice was really flavorful and the hummus was good, but the bowls don't come with any kind of pita bread to use for dipping and I don't care for hummus just plain. The cabbage slaw was OK, but it had quite a bit of mayonnaise in it which I, personally, am not a fan of. I'm not sure what was going on with the tabouli, but it was dry parsley with a few onions and tomatoes. There was no olive oil and no lemon juice. The tabouli that was on the buffet looked normal but what came in my bowl had basically no dressing on it. I assume that was just an oversight, but it was very odd. The overall value for money was good. The bowls are only $10 and I got a very large amount of food. My only complaint about the presentation is that they put the hummus, tabouli, and slaw on top of the rice. I really don't care for my food all mixed together so I would prefer that it be put into the bowl beside the rice like it is at those to go Halal places or, on a separate dish. Normally, I would ask for pita bread on the side, but I could see from looking at the buffet that the pita bread is not homemade and not warm so I didn't bother. The ambience and decor were very nice with a good number of tables and comfortable chairs.

The photo does not due justice to how raw it was

It's not exactly close to me, but the menu convinced us to give it a try. My husband went with the buffet and enjoyed the variety -- hummus, gyro, salad, and pita bread -- and felt the price was a great value for what was offered. I ordered the pastitsio. It wasn't quite the same as the versions I've had in Chicago, where I've enjoyed both homemade and restaurant-made versions. This one was still enjoyable, but not as flavorful as I remembered. The béchamel sauce was creamy, though I felt it needed a bit more seasoning, and the tomato sauce leaned a little too soupy for my taste. I took the moussaka to go. It had a very similar flavor profile to the pastitsio, but instead of pasta, it featured layers of eggplant and ground beef. It was comforting and hearty, though the flavors felt a bit repetitive between the two dishes. The cheese bread that came with both the pastitsio and moussaka was really good -- warm, soft, and a great pairing with the meal. Service was fantastic -- friendly and attentive -- and the space, while small, had a cozy, homey feel. Overall, I'm glad I finally got my pastitsio fix, and it was a pleasant experience.

Be aware that…read morethere are no actual strawberries in this salad, they are talking about the dressing. smh.‍ also, the salmon was as hard as rock and had a slight fishy smell. It tasted like it was made yesterday and was very over cooked. Either that or it was smoked salmon. I called and the person that answered just handed the phone to the manager mid sentence and she proceeded to tell me that they do not put out dry or over cooked salmon and that it was the glaze I was seeing. She said this several times. I explained that I've cooked salmon many, many times and would never serve over cooked and potentially say old salmon to a customer. Now I get why the salmon was buried under the salad greens and not sitting on top. Anyway, the manager did not handle the call very well in my opinion and seems to think that the food was likely perfect, because it's the pomegranate glaze that turns it brown. Haha. So, I've included pics so you can see it. It smells slightly fishy and is hard to the touch. The brown outside is that glaze that she thinks I was concerned with even though, I never mentioned color. I also have a video. Not sure I would go here again, or maybe I need to try another location next time. I have a video of me hitting the salmon with a fork and it sounds like I'm hitting a piece of wood. Also, Please train your managers better on how to professionally handle customer concerns.

The waitress was quick to give us a menu, but she tooK soooooooooooo long to take our drink order that we had to go to the bar and order for ourselves. Common cocktails are $14 and served in a lowball glass - not worth it as there's more ice than anything. Thank goodness we showed up within the happy hour window. While taking my order, I asked the waitress for a small change, and she said, "So, you want to start your order all over again?" Really?! Burger and fries at $14 looked appetizing but came out ice cold - hardly edible. Appetizer was about $8.95, and, yes, it was cold, too. Don't waste your time or hard earned money. In DFW, there are far too many options for great food and atmosphere. Firehouse definitely went down in flames.
